We had the reservation complete and all fees paid, then, I broke my leg! Had to move the reservation up some weeks, but Casa Opuntia was given plenty of time to make
changes, which they did, adding a penalty fee at all their Opuntia hotels we stayed at
on the Galpagos islands. Only one hotel on the islands resisted the temptation to penalize for the broken leg, but it was not an Opuntia hotel. Our travel agent was unable to reason with the Opuntia administration. I wrote a letter to the corporate
office in Quito about the unfairnes of the penalty, but they did not even have the will to apologize. I am not ragging on the comfort or staff that attended us during our stays.
However, in checking I noticed that the reservation we had originally made was taken on the day we would have needed them. So, tell me, is this thievery, or just plain good old capitalism at its best?

on arrival at Casa Optunia Galapagas , we were met by the manager who greeted us very well and told us about the hotel.
at first we were told the rooms were not ready so we were going on our tour, but just as we were about to leave our room became ready !
we got the keys and shown to our room !
which on arrival was very nice , ground floor by the pool !
the room itself was 2 single beds and a double , we chose to sleep in the room with the 2 single rooms as it was too hot !
hotel only served breakfast but was very good and staff were very friendly and helpful !
if we ever needed anything they went above and beyond their duty to help us !

We stayed here for three days for our first time in the Galapagos. Tatiana was amazing and was able to accommodate a very early check-in. The accommodations were very clean and well kept. Our room had an ocean view and air conditioning. Nice breakfast every morning on the open air patio and the staff will give you a breakfast to go in case you leave for a tour before breakfast hours. The hotel is steps away from the waterfront and all the shops, restaurants, and sea lions. There are 2 swimming pools if you want to cool off. We left laundry with them in the morning of our first day and it was ready by dinner!

Good hotel in great location
Nice hotel with very helpful and friendly staff.
Great breakfast and good location, restaurants, shops, bars and beaches in easy reach. Hundreds of sea lions very close by.
Noisy dusty building work going on by the small pool was a bit annoying though.
Would recommend staying here.

The accommodations were lovely- everything was very clean and well kept. Our room had an ocean view and even a hammock on the balcony! Nice breakfast every morning and the staff will give you a breakfast to go in case you leave for a tour before breakfast hours. The staff at the front desk called the local cabs for us when we wanted to go on excursions that are only accessible by car. The hotel is steps away from all the shops, restaurants, and sea lions. I highly recommend staying here if you want to be centrally located and have the best Galapagos experience possible!

We have just had four wonderful days at casa opuntia.
Tatiana, all the in house and Exoticca staff were wonderful. Friendly and helpful.
Tea making and cold water facilities in the lobby were an added plus for us.
The breakfast area has a wonderful position overlooking the sea, enhanced by the visiting finches that shared breakfast with us. There wasn’t an awful lot of choice for breakfast but for us it was fine, the view and position fed us.
The room we had was in the old sector of the hotel, ours was probably one of the least appealing rooms as we were on the ground floor at the back. This was also near where the food was prepared in the morning so could be noisy as the kitchen bustled into life ( not the staff’s fault)
The bed was very clean, comfortable, spacious. For us the pillows were a little too hard.
The bathroom was small, very tired and dated and oppressive ( I am a bathroom person )
The shower was not pretty but was powerful and hot, great smelling shower gel.
We would stay there again but request a room in the new block.
Overall a very homely, warm hotel,
Well situated.

The Galápagos Islands, famous for their diversity of animal and plant species, are a once in a lifetime destination for some - if they are lucky.
Staying on the Airport island of San Cristobal our hotel was Casa Opuntia that was located on the sea front less than ten minutes drive away from the airport itself. The hotel is divided into two parts, the old building that holds some charm but showing its age in places and the newer building that benefits from a newer pool.
Our room, located in the old part of the hotel, was comfortable enough, however the bathroom was rather tired. The lack of plug sockets was forever present, so was the lack of WiFi anywhere except the reception area where it was slower than an eighty-eight year old tortoise. No fridge and a limited breakfast rounded off the the list that was annoying. Some would say that being in the Galápagos Islands is compensation enough.
The hotel's location is a key plus. Being on the sea front means that you can literally sea several of the animal species from the hotel, or at least its grounds. We clearly saw the Blue-footed Booby, a marine bird that is apparently hard to find, Galápagos Sea Lions galore and more Galápagos Marine Iguanas than you can shake a stick at. Breakfast was interesting after all.
The hotel is also handily placed for visiting anywhere inhabited on the island. Even the absolutely stunning Puerto Chino Beach is achievable by taxi. Using the hotel as a base we were able to visit the David Rodriguez Tortoise Breeding Centre in the morning and swim with at least half a dozen turtles at La Loberia Beach in the afternoon.
A great base for exploring San Christobal but there is room for improvement.

There is a fridge in the communal area as well as tea/coffee making facilitirs and water dispenser (hot and cold) for refilling bottles.
The rooms are a good size and have air conditioning but for us our visit was enhanced by the service all the staff provide, nothing is too much trouble and it was appreciated.
