A glorious stay in this beautiful old palace. The building is beautiful, full of historical charm and yet with all the modern facilities needed today. The bedroom was very spacious with high ceilings and very quiet. The spa is split in two and has an abundance of options. 7 pools in total. The location is fairly close to the train station, which we used to go to Pisa and Lucca. Just check the times as the trains are hourly. Amazing service from the team, with fab breakfast. Can't wait to go back!

We ask for a tea kettle for our room. The staff look at us like we were crazy but said they would see what they could do. No tea kettle ever arrived. Interestingly, ever other place we stayed in Italy had tea kettles in the room.

Italy’s Worst 5 Star Hotel

Room conditions are poor. Bathrooms last remodeled over 20 years ago.
WiFi is poor.
Food was absolutely lackluster from a food quality perspective. Actually that’s too kind. Think about a 2 gallon bucket of butter on the breakfast buffet. From a standpoint of quality, presentation and sanitary standards, that bucket is emblematic of this hotel’s standard.
Spa service was unfriendly.
Front desk communications were poor. Definitely not 5 star. No concierge on staff.
Service in the bar seemed intentionally neglectful in that we were the only guests in the bar and waited endlessly for service.
Worst of all was the open disdain shown toward us by the server in the breakfast restaurant. I have never been insulted in that way in all my travels and I have lived in hotels full time for years on end since the early 1980’s.
The problems at this hotel are not likely to be corrected in the near term and our experience is certainly not due to any isolated incident.

Great spa, rooftop spa is more of a rooftop party with crying kids

The spa was really enjoyable, very relaxing inside. The warm pools were lovely. The body salt and mud scrub were great, makes your skin really soft but if you have sensitive skin, it might be best to skip the salt and just go for the mud. The spa could do with a revamp as its very old and looks like it needs a lick of paint. Although the rooftop pool started out really relaxing, they started playing music ever so slightly too loud, which killed the relaxing spa vibe. We didn't realise kids were allowed in the spa until we got to the rooftop and there were crying kids.......

The hotel staff were extremely friendly and the spa was nice but unfortunately apart from the two good points mentioned above the rest of the hotel in my opinion is mediocre. The room was very dated and in need of refurbing along with a lot of other areas of the hotel. The hotel is in a small town/village outside Pisa called St Guiliano, If you are using this hotel for sightseeing in Pisa I believe you will be very disappointed. It is a twenty minute (depending on traffic) taxi ride to Pisa and then if you want to return by taxi you will find it very difficult. We were trying to call a taxi for a long time and eventually gave up, looking up how to get back by train, which is not ideal when you are on holiday.

I must have started this review about 5 times because I don't really want to be negative, but then again I don't want to be positive either!
We stayed here for one night, and it was enough - much like Pisa itself I feel - one day/night is enough! The location is well out of Pisa - taxi will cost in the region of €25, but if you like the idea of their thermal pools, saunas, etc it's worth it.
Our room was a split level - bed above the en-suite with a decent sitting/chilling area downstairs. However I use the term "chilling" ironically because the AC couldn't get near coping - despite having it working as hard as it could for the entire stay, it only managed to cool the room by less than one degree celsius. Opening the windows didn't help, but they opened into a corridor anyway, so privacy was a concern.
Once you actually see a member of staff in the thermal baths/spa area (they seem to be rather sparse and stay hidden - pretty sure I read that in someone else's review), they are lovely, but I genuinely felt awkward asking them to show us around - which is what the hotel receptionist had told us to ask!
When we checked in, we were informed of a "party" being hosted on the terrace that evening with food (not beverages) costing €90 each. We may have been tempted, but decided that given we were only there for one night, we'd eat in Pisa itself. On returning to the hotel we grabbed a couple of drinks at the bar and were invited (by who appeared to be the Food and Beverage manager) to enjoy our drinks on the terrace with the live music still playing - this was lovely and very thoughtful - certainly the highlight of our stay at the hotel.
All in all, it's somewhat aged and needs a bit of TLC, possibly understaffed a little, and in a rural location. That said, the staff are very good and the location makes it wonderfully peaceful and relaxing. The thermal baths are beautiful and somewhat unique so it's very "different" and for a night-or-two, you can't go wrong. I don't regret booking it, and if the AC had worked, so would probably have been a far more positive review.

We had a wonderful, truly unforgettable stay at Bagni di Pisa in the Deluxe Double Room. The hotel and its grounds are absolutely beautiful. They are not in the least bit "tired" as I've seen in some reviews - the palace is clearly old, but that is what makes it so unique; it is in outstanding condition with its original character very much maintained. The hotel is full of comfortable, plush furniture, beautiful pictures and a warm, pastel decor.
The room was of a good size and lighting was ample with both sets of shutters open. The bed was very comfortable and large. We found the hotel to be very quiet in general, both in terms of noise and the amount of people you would see around. That being said, at breakfast you could see there were a lot of people staying.
The jewels of this hotel are of course the spa pools. I was a bit worried about there only being warm pools given the high August temperatures outside, but they were extremely refreshing and felt much cooler than walking around outside! We particularly enjoyed the jacuzzi, which was probably the most powerfully "bubbly" we'd ever seen, and the salt pool, which allows you just to float around and close your eyes. We often had these pools to ourselves as well. The hotel provide your own dressing gown, shower cap and slippers. We also twice had the complimentary salt scrub and mud treatment which you apply yourself, this left our skin feeling very nice and it's a fun thing to do. We didn't try the cave as, although it looked very romantic and cosy, we felt the additional charge (35€ each) to be unmerited when there were no fewer than five other very relaxing and often empty spa pools included in the stay. We also didn't have a massage or other treatment as we found the prices a little too high for us, so can't comment on those.
Breakfast was an excellent spread featuring a range of Italian cold meats and cheeses, fruit, cakes and pastries. Some cooked breakfast elements are also available. We didn't dine in the restaurant as we preferred to do so out and about but we found the food and staff at breakfast to be excellent. The staff in general were very helpful and friendly, and we really appreciated the birthday gift for my girlfriend - grazie! We frequented the Bar Shelley which was beautifully decorated, especially the ceiling, and was a nice place to have a drink in the evening. Again, pretty quiet - we were usually the only ones there in what was a very large room!
Do not worry about the location, it is perfect in between Pisa and Lucca and is a 10-15 minute train to each. The train will cost you 2€ a time. San Guiliano Terme is a small residential town, but it has a couple of nice, very reasonably priced restaurants a stones throw from the hotel which did great food and were clearly predominantly for the locals. A nice canal runs through the town and this makes for a nice short walk to round off the day.
To offer our tuppence on comments from other reviews, we didn't find the hotel at all difficult to navigate, maybe it takes a night or two to know your way around everything but it's a large hotel. As for air conditioning, it was a bit hot on the second night but I called down to reception and it was soon sorted. We didn't have any other problems with it - it worked fine in general.
We truly felt that we had a five star experience at Bagni di Pisa and would definitely return. It was the most beautiful hotel either of us have ever stayed at and we miss it very much!

First thing when you drive to this hotel you find potholes and if you have a low vehicle it makes it hard. The entrance of the premises has no signage to indicate "RECEPTION" so staying there for 2 days i ended up helping when crossing the hallway. The room was absolutely stunning. The restaurant where both breakfast and dinner are served was ok but my complaint is on the staff. They are rude to guests they are short tempered and their english is basic. They need to hire professionals in a hotel of that calibre. i would sit for either breakfast and dinner and literally watch the guests be treated badly. The spa is beautiful but please don't do the facials (face, neck and chest) its a total rip off. We all know that spas are not the most advanced beauty experts but they really try to rip you off. I left one appointment with a cream that i didn't need but felt pressured to purchase of which i returned the next day. My advice.... hire professionals you will make a difference. I heard that many people have complaint for more or less the same reason this weekend and i can say that i will not be returning to this hotel and will not recommend it.

The hotel was previously a palace of the Duke of Tuscany. The facilities are very large and historic, and have been reasonably recently updated. The rooms are of a good size. The thermal bath facilities are excellent, as is the warm outdoor pool. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful. The location is close to the train station, so it is an easy ride to either Pisa or Lucca (it is right between the two). The town of San Giuliano Terme itself is rather sleepy, but the hotel is a good choice for meals. It’s really a 4-1/2 star hotel, but I couldn’t get to 5 stars primarily because we found the mattress very hard and the room very dark - the windows are minimal and shuttered. If those factors don’t bother you, then it would be a 5 star for you.

We only stayed at Bagni di Pisa for one night, but what an incredible hotel it is!
The room felt like we were in a palace, and was the biggest hotel room we have ever stayed in!
The staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs, including helping with airport transfer etc.
There was a great selection at breakfast, which (rare for Italy) even had a wide variety of vegan alternatives.
Perhaps because we came late in the season, but the spa/pool was one area that felt a little forgotten amongst the grand hallways and bedrooms. But that’s if I’m being really picky- and we are definitely hoping to come back for a longer stay next time!

This hotel was out this world. The staff were amazing and very attentive. Simone in the bar was amazing as were the rest. The staff have excellent English.
You can tell why this is a 5 star hotel.
The room we had was beautiful, comfortable and had everything we needed. Apart from there being no coffee or tea facilities ( not the end of the world. It is just something we are used to).
The ground were gorgeous and the walk to the top of their gardens is worth it for the view!
The spa wad lovely. Unfortunately the grotto wad not open as a warning. However the rest is great and relaxing. The indoor pool for abit of a jacuzzi and the outdoor one was great for sunbathing and relaxing and of course going for a dip.
We stayed for our honeymoon.
We traveled into pisa then got a quick train to the town it is in. Then it was only a 5minute walk from there.
The train station there is also only 20mins direct to Lucca with stunning views. Which we fell in LOVE with.
The hotel is expensive for food and drink - which you would expect.
The town has a wonderful bar and bakery where is €4 a drink and a pizza place if you fancy something cheaper for food.
All in all we miss this place already.
