So you are going to Napier, probably for the Art Deco or the wine and most probably for both.
So why not stay in the most fabulous Art Deco hotel in the best position in town?
Many of the original features have been retained - from front entrance to furniture - the place is one fabulous example of Art Deco at its most exuberant.
The room was lovely. Comfy bed and spotlessly clean and kept sparkly each day by the friendly housekeeping staff.
Front of house staff were also friendly and efficient.
The hotel has a bar and restaurant. We ate in the restaurant, the food was excellent and service friendly.
Pretty much the perfect hotel!

The hotel seems to have franchised out the restaurant and bar, which was a bit of a shame, but none the less all good. Breakfast wasn’t available every morning in the restaurant, but there are lovely places nearby, especially Roam - see my separate review on this excellent cafe.
Very well positioned, with a payable car park across the road - a lovely base in Napier

We stayed 2 nights in room 109. I’ve travelled a fair bit and am fully aware that older hotels tend to have small rooms…the superior king room is tiny. (We saw rooms that were being cleaned and they were even smaller.)
Felt it was poor value for what you pay. It’s a lovely old building but:
-terrible lighting in the bedroom and bathroom
-the bathroom mirror being in the corner makes it impossible to see when blow drying your hair and hubby said it made shaving difficult
-please provide a waste bin in the bathroom
-entry into the tub is quite high, could be difficult for some
-parking of $20 daily is high for a city this size given it’s at the outdoor municipal lot

Laundry facilities good and staff provided free washing liquid. Food in restaurant good. No parking on site but can off load luggage outside before parking across road in their allocated spots in public car park.

The tour that Cindy took is on was very informative even in the bad weather, highly recommend.
The items that were on display and for sale were very extremely unique and beautiful, well worth the look.
Was also great with people with disabilities.
OK, but nothing super special

The downstairs area lacked 'warmth' and whilst aspects of the hotel looked in keeping with its Art Deco heritage, it didn't knock our socks off. Breakfast wasn't included and the hotel didn't appear to have its own restaurant.

No breakfast available and in general we felt the hotel was overpriced for what it offered.

This lovely, historic hotel is in the heart of Napier. It is beautifully decorated & maintained. Our room, despite facing the road, was comfortable and quiet. There is a large, communal veranda overlooking the sea for a tranquil place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The hotel is centrally located for touring the art deco buildings, as well as shopping and restaurants. The hotel restaurant (KKitchen) was excellent (the lamb shank was delicious). The best part of the restaurant was the staff. Always smiling & helpful. Wonderful experience all around.

This is an absolute gem of a hotel. It's like walking back in time. And it is perfectly located in the center of town, right off the ocean. There is even an upstairs patio overlooking Marine Parade and the water where guests can sit out and enjoy the view.
The only down side is that parking is about a block and a half away in a shared parking lot where the hotel leases some spaces from the council. It's not too bad, but a bit of an inconvenience.

This is the perfect place to stay to complete your Art Deco experience in Napier. The hotel has been thoughtfully updated to 21st century standards without losing any of its period charm. We stayed in a Queen Room which was compact but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Comfortable bed, good pillows and fresh linen. Tea and coffee making facilities. Mugs and pretty blue tea cups in keeping with the era. Iron and Ironing board. The bathroom was tight but had good lighting for makeup application and good water pressure. Ate at the restaurant twice and were happy with our meals. 10% discount as we were hotel guests. Attentive service from our wait staff. Parking is offsite but staff at reception were more than happy to store our suitcases in the luggage room while we collected our car. Parking $15:00 per night. No issues at check in or checkout. Central location. Would recommend.

From the beginning to walking into the lobby of this super cool historical hotel was awesome and then greeted by Sachi who checked us in and was a great source of things to see and do while visiting from the US. He was fun and knowledgeable. Our room was a bit small however the decor and comforts were amazing. Mark Twain even stayed there in the day. We just loved staying there and it's so close to everything. We dined there as well and the young woman who waited on us, I think Kritika was awesome too. It's so nice for us when you get to hear where others are from and how they got there. I would definitely recommend this hotel and we hope to return again. Thanks Sachi for all that you did to make our stay awesome!

For our wedding anniversary, we spent 3 nights, in the Pacific View suite.
The suite was perfect with a lounge suite, dining room and kitchen.
We loved the little study nooke and the fabulously comfortable deco chair, that I’d have my morning coffee in, whilst looking at the stunning ocean view.
The bed was so comfy, with different pillows to choose from.
Loved the option of a rainforest shower or normal shower head.
The bathroom was very spacious, with a great make up mirror if you wanted it.
Loved the convenience of the Nespresso coffee machine and milk frother.
The location was so convient to everything.
The carpark was a 5 minute walk, so easy to get to.
We changed our booking to add another night and Zoe was so helpful. She was easy to deal with and happy to answer any questions we had.
Will definitely stay again.
Loved the art deco
