Stayed 4 nights over valentines weekend . We stayed here before , as good if not better . Rooms immaculate, they were kind enough to have a complimentary bottle of champagne waiting on our wedding anniversary… nice touch 🍾 The staff make this hotel special there not hassling you , there just there & ready to help . Reception are very helpful organising taxis etc to sky lagoon , use them as the return rank taxi was a lot dearer than the one the Apotek organised
The breakfast staff are excellent making sure I was full of coffee & my water bottle filled for the day , the young Polish lady went above and beyond to help & have a chat .
Our second stay here as it’s so convenient, central & within walking distance of most things
Restaurant & bar are great & well designed to , but like most things in Reykjavík bit on the pricey side .
A great friendly hotel with outstanding staff . Will be back fallen in love with Iceland
Tip ask reception on best tours with proper guides , Iceland is a beautiful playground as long as your guided by pros 👍⛰️🥶

It was our second time staying at Hotel Apotek. Even though last time everything was already perfect they managed to make our second stay even better. We had a beautiful, comfortable and quiet room with a beautiful bathroom. Staff was always very helpful.

The hotel is centrally located in the city and close to all touristy things. The staff and helpful and welcoming. Rooms are clean, with a small fridge and decent bathroom size. With 2 luggages the room was tight but we managed. I will say that the parking situation needs to be better explained to guest. Street parking by the hour is expensive but I believe you stop paying after 2100. Front desk staff encouraged us to park in the city hall which is less expensive so I would consider looking into that but note the garage opens at 7am.

Our stay at Apotek Hotel was utterly ruined by the shocking behavior of Assistant Manager Gita, who showed zero compassion and professionalism during a medical emergency.
We booked through American Express Travel, but my husband fell seriously ill right before check-in. Following Gita’s instructions, I emailed the details, and American Express emailed her as well. She ignored both emails completely. At arrival, despite my visibly unwell husband, Gita refused to come out from the back office or even acknowledge our presence. Her only response later was coldly telling us to “go through travel insurance.”
This wasn’t about strict policy—this was about basic human empathy during a clear medical emergency, requesting only a single-night refund during peak season when the room could easily be resold. The rooms, by the way, are incredibly tiny and unbearably noisy, making restful sleep impossible.
Disturbingly, this isn’t isolated: other reviewers have shared similar experiences—one guest denied a refund after a family death, another refused flexibility despite potential volcanic activity disrupting travel. Clearly, this hotel has a consistent problem with compassion and customer service.
I strongly advise anyone seeking decent, humane treatment to avoid this hotel.
