1 Hotel Hanalei Bay

This hotel is such a special place. If you are lucky enough to stay here even once in your lifetime, count your blessings. The scenery and location are picture postcard perfect. The hotel is large but never feels overly crowded even during peak travel seasons. The bar and restaurant settings are second to none. The staff, for the most part, are very friendly and well trained. I appreciated the convenience of booking services and reservations via the 1 Hotel app. Our mid tier room cost $4000/night when including all taxes and fees. At prices like that, service expectations are very high. On that note, there were a couple of disappointments: 1. Housekeeping services in our room were spotty. Dirty washcloths were removed and not replaced each night of our stay, necessitating a call for more. Dirty glasses were also not collected nor rinsed and returned to their correct location. The hotel is very focused on sustainability, which I support, but this felt more like a lack of attention to detail. Bathroom toiletries were also not straightened up when the room was serviced Overall, an opportunity for improvement. 2. The beach seating situation is my largest complaint. There are about 65 beach beds on the shore. About 20 are available for complimentary guest use. The other 45 have to be paid for at eye watering rates each day for daily use. The 25 complimentary beds go quickly leaving guests with no other option than to either sit on a towel in the sand while the remaining 40 beds sit mostly empty or fork out a minimum of $400/day if you want a real place to sit. Again, at $4000/night, a beach chair to sit on is an absolute minimum service expectation. 3. Breakfast- we booked through Chase travel so daily breakfast for 2 was included. Keep in mind that if you have to pay for breakfast, the only option in the restaurant is the buffet which costs $75/person including taxes and gratuity. This was my second stay at One Hotel Kaua’i but I’m not sure if I will return.

Excellent stay. The setting is absolutely beautiful. From our intro with Matt to our check in with Dayna we could tell we were in good hands. Every staff member went out of their way to make for a wonderful visit. Despite the hotel being at high capacity over the holiday week it never felt too crowded. We had such a nice time we ended up extending our stay . Thank you to all the hotel team members!

Our third stay since they (re)opened? Been coming since it was a St Regis. Love what they did to the beach. It seems they are finally trying to improve the 1 kitchen restaurant. We all know you do not visit Kauai for food. But the recent efforts are nice. Rooms are great and the staff was a nice as they ever have been. Will be back!

Wow. This resort could not be located in a more beautiful place. Built into the side of the hills with a beautiful pool and beach area. Service was amazing from the moment we checked in at the guard hut. Everyone we came into contact with at the resort was kind and helpful and full of aloha spirit. Our room was well appointed, and always clean. Love the filtered water on tap and the Nespresso units for coffee in the morning. I absolutely love that you could completely open up the windows (and screens) to fully enjoy the amazing views. We ate at most of the restaurants onsite and honestly everything was incredibly delicious and (IMO) reasonable for what it was (a resort on an island). The only regret we have is not taking part of more of the hotel offerings. We were trying to experience the island but I wish we had stayed at the resort more. They have such fun offerings throughout the day and week. We would love to take advantage of more of these next time ;) We absolutely loved our stay here and trying to find excuses to come back.

We finally got around to visiting the natural beauty of Ka’aui, the last of the six Hawaiian islands for us. We decided to stay at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay because we prefer modern designs and the location looked stunning even in photos. The setting really is undeniably beautiful. We normally don’t like eco-friendly hotels but this one was very tastefully designed and our suite large, airy, and beautifully decorated. The view from our room was panoramic and hence immersed you in Ka’uai’s lush greenery. The service was exceptional, Kim Anh Ngo and Mokihana really went above and beyond to make us feel special on our anniversary! Usually for such a large scale hotel, we do not experience such personalized exceptional service but this was not the case at this hotel. The Terrace view is not to be missed but we had a preference for the food at 1 Kitchen: fresh and flavorful, especially that crab pasta!! Now that we have been to all the islands, we can say with confidence that the setting of this hotel is the MOST beautiful for us and that it is one of the most relaxing and beautifully designed resorts in all of Hawaii! Thank you Kim and team for a beautiful stay and for making our 14th Wedding Anniversary so memorable!!!

What a great hotel makes you feel like a princess. So many wonderful things to do on the property and so many wonderful restaurants. We enjoyed the E bike rental, which was free and went on a nice two hour bike ride. We did venture out of the property, but really you don’t need to. They have everything you need. We had no problem getting into any of the restaurants and the food was fabulous and the views were breathtaking. I highly recommend this property.

Vincent Barnett and his team made our special trip to Hanalei absolutely incredible! Everything was perfect from the moment we arrived until checkout for our large group of nine. Traveling with both small children and adults, Vincent ensured our rooms were conveniently located near one another. He was accessible 24/7, and booking activities was seamless—we could simply text him! He even arranged welcome gifts and balloons in the children’s room for their birthdays. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. One in a lifetime experience! The property is picture perfect and every meal was to die for! 1 hotel never disappoints!

I’ve been coming to 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay since 2023, and the pool staff is a huge part of why I keep returning. The team is consistently warm, attentive, and genuinely kind — and Tia, especially, deserves recognition. She’s been here for years, and her steady energy, kindness, and respect set the tone the moment you arrive at the pool. Even on the busiest days, she checks in with everyone and somehow makes you feel like you’re the only guest she’s focused on. That kind of presence really shapes the experience, not just at the pool, but throughout the entire resort. What I’ve always appreciated is the familiarity — being greeted by the same faces who actually remember me year after year. That level of care is rare, and it shows. The whole team is upbeat, smiling, and laughing with guests, creating the kind of effortless, positive atmosphere that makes your stay feel special from start to finish. The pool staff here truly elevates the resort. If you’re staying at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, expect them to make your trip even better.

This stay was very close to a 5-star experience. The property is beautiful, and our room was lovely. We truly enjoyed our time here. *I do have one gentle suggestion for management: when the hotel is at capacity, it may be better to let guests know rather than placing them in rooms or tables that don’t reflect the standard you aim to provide. For example, our room was located next to dehumidifiers and equipment, which affected the atmosphere a bit. And when dining at the sushi restaurant, we were seated in an area without the ocean view we were looking forward to. These small details can make a big difference in how special and memorable a stay feels—especially at this price point. I share this only in the spirit of helpful feedback, because with just a bit more attention to the guest experience, this truly could be an effortless 5-star stay.

This is a gorgeous hotel!!! The staff are excellent , friendly, and helpful. The beach has sand w some rocks and many turtle sightings, and snorkeling. It is located on a wide deep bay. Our rooms had both AC and fans that kept us cool and comfortable. Many amenities. We had a rainy day and there is a fun game room for adults and kids. We did enjoy the beautiful adult pool area as well as the beach level pools. Again, the staff is top notch. We had dinner at Hotel 1 and it was very tasty and fresh. Many choices for our varied palates. Exercise room is FULLY furnished w all modes of cardio and weights. Huge! Bikes and nearby walking paths w stunning views. The spa is first rate and I had an amazing deep tissue massage w hot rocks. Wanda is an expert at her ability to gently smooth the knots and make your body feel healthy. I would highly recommend booking a massage w her. Even with rain…. This is an amazing hotel.

This hotel and its staff are spectacular. We were greeted by a very friendly staff member who gave us leis and escorted us inside, and the check in experience was incredible. We felt instantly relaxed and welcomed, thanks to Yana, who helped us check in and answered our questions. The restaurant had the most delicious fish we've had in years. The café was also tranquil and delicious. The design and decor of the entire hotel make you feel like you're in paradise (and you are!) And the rooms, views, and pools are all so luxurious. We had an amazing time and can't wait to return!
