The Caves

I think that there is only one word that can describe our experience at The Caves: MAGICAL .Intimate atmosphere, wonderful staff, beautiful views, amazing food, quiet, romantic, peaceful…. We can’t wait to come back to this little piece of paradise.

After booking online, we received an email from Gisell at Island Outpost reservations. Over the next month, I had sent so many emails inquiring about information and room upgrades. Huge shout out to Gisell!! She went above and beyond with the best customer service - everything was perfect. We were greeted at the airport by Chris who was our taxi driver (arranged through the hotel). During our 1.5 hour drive from the airport, Chris provided history and information about his country. Thank you Chris! We arrived on a Saturday afternoon after a long flight & taxi to be greeted with a welcome drink upon arrival. The check-in process was very smooth and we were also granted a tour of the property. We stayed 7 nights in the butterfly room which was very beautiful. The room was very clean - you could tell the housekeeping team was very thorough (housekeeping is the backbone of any hotel). Don’t forget to give your housekeeping team a cash tip - they deserve it. We enjoyed keeping the shutters open all day to enjoy the breeze - air conditioning really wasn’t necessary. The bedroom mattress was very comfortable. We slept with the bug net surrounding our bed, but we never saw a mosquito the entire trip. There was no television & spotty wifi, which was perfect for us trying to reset and relax. The hotel grounds & gardens were taken care of so well by the employees. I even saw the GM walk the property multiple times a day - that’s when you know you’re staying at the best hotel. Way to go Karen! We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday - never had a bad meal. They offered specials daily and also the option to have breakfast in our room. On our last night of our trip we enjoyed a private cave dinner, which was amazing - make sure to book one! The best part of our trip was cliff jumping and snorkeling, followed by relaxing! Being that it was a small hotel, you’ll get to know the other guests staying on property. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. This is the part when you expect to see pictures, but our pictures wouldn’t do this hotel any justice. It’s absolutely beautiful at the Caves hotel, go check it out for yourselves. To the Caves staff, thank you for such an amazing experience. Your hospitality was exceptional and we can see why so many couples return year after year. It’s all about the best customer service and you all have it. Keep up the great work!! This is an edited version of my initial review which was poorly phrased, inappropriately titled and unbalanced, for which I was justifiable notified and I apologize. The Caves location, in Negril, is exceptional. It is about 1.5 hours from Mobay. The ride is bumpy but goes by quickly with the beautiful scenery all around. Once at Caves, the spots to jump into the water vary in height from a lark to thrillingly frightening. The rum cave bar and all the bars are super fun with a self-service concept that is both unique and felt super-fun and indulgent to us. They make you anything you want at breakfast and offer local/daily specialties, like cabbage and sailfish, that are wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked. At breakfast, lunch and dinner the service is warm, friendly and engaging but not intrusive. We enjoyed their warmth so much that we felt obliged to tip but, I am not sure it is required or expected. Housekeeping also did an amazing, tip worthy, job with our suite which must have been tedious with two floors and three terrific seating areas along with a mini kitchen. With that, in my opinion, they could be more welcoming and the place could benefit from a bit of repair and updating in relation to the cost and competition.

My husband and I stayed here the week of Thanksgiving break and had an amazing stay!! The property is even more beautiful than the pictures show. The home cooked meals are incredible, and the cave dinner was amazing! We looked forward to a fabulous breakfast with gorgeous views every morning....

My husband and I stayed here the week of Thanksgiving break and had an amazing stay!! The property is even more beautiful than the pictures show. The home cooked meals are incredible, and the cave dinner was amazing! We looked forward to a fabulous breakfast with gorgeous views every morning. Also, ask Stacey to make some of her specialty cocktails, they are the best! We love Stacey so much, she made us feel right at home! And all of the staff are so kind and wonderful, thank you Bernard, Floyd, and Glen for making our stay special. The cleaning staff and grounds keepers also did an amazing job keeping the property and rooms very clean and nice. We loved so much jumping off the cliffs and snorkeling every day in the warm Caribbean sea. We also got a couple's massage that was wonderful. I wish I remember their names, they were both excellent. Our room was charming, and as others have mentioned, could use an update. We spent most of our time out on the property, but the inside of the rooms have some rusty fixtures, old paint, and the bathroom needs an update. If you are ok with a more rustic room, you will have an amazing time here!

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights for our honeymoon and had the most amazing time. The staff here was OUTSTANDING and we loved every person we met. The food was also outstanding, like a five star meal every time we ate. I would come back here for the food alone. My husband loved jumping off the cliffs and I was obsessed with snorkeling, so cool you could snorkel right off of their cliffs! We loved lounging, eating, and having the most relaxing, dreamy time. Our private cave dinner was so cool! We stayed in the One Drop room and liked the room itself, though it smelled slightly of mildew. My only complaint about our entire stay was that the bathroom, especially the outdoor shower, could use a little updating especially for the price paid. I wish that on their website they would show you every room they offer since they are all unique. It's definitely my own fault for assuming our room would also have an indoor shower, but we were fine with just having the outdoor one (though again, it could use an update). Also a tiiiiny thing, but the snacks provided in between meals could have been better. My husband has a severe nut allergy and almost all of the snacks had nuts. However, I believe if we would have asked, they would have made/ gotten us something else. The meal time food was so good and plentiful though that we never really needed snacks! Second stay here and it continues to impress. Private dining caves were amazing. Staff is incredibly attentive. Can’t say enough good things about this place. Highly recommended if you want to relax, decompress get away from it all for a few days.

This was our second visit to The Caves, but it definitely won't be our last. Love floating in the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean, watching sunsets from the pool, snorkeling, kayaking, jumping off the cliff. Fantastic service throughout our stay from the entire staff. They were so welcoming. Stacey, Floyd, Earl, Zoom, Ammar and others. I can't emphasize enough how great the food is, especially the fresh fruit and fresh fish. Also loved that there is a traditional Jamaican option with every meal. Can't wait to return!

Sad thing about the caves in Negil, you have to leave one day... - We really enjoyed The Caves very much. Outstanding location on the rocks, fantastic swimming, superb food and drinks and the most charming staff who cared about us all the time. Loved it! Nice cabanes with a great view. This was our second visit to The Caves and was amazing! The things that stand out are: The staff by far, especially Floyd, Stacy, Zoom and Earl! The food is amazing! If you want somewhere to relax, swim and enjoy great staff and food this is the place! My only suggestion is to turn the heat down on the hot tub, it was too hot for everyone. We will be back!

The views of the Caribbean are unmatched. If you want beach, crowds and frozen mass produced food then don't come here. We are just leaving from our second visit to The Caves. If you are wanting to relax and decompress, this is the place. The service was exceptional. They truly made us feel like family. Every detail felt personalized. Last time we stayed in a garden room with an outdoor shower this year was an oceanfront. We think there are many things to enjoy about each room. We loved our anniversary dinner in the caves. It is definitely worth it if you are trying to decide. The staff is phenomenal! Stacy and crew brought smiles and incredible service to breakfast and lunch. Glen, Pernardo and crew brought memorable dinners at night. The chefs knocked it out of the park with fabulous meals. We appreciated each person on staff there and the effort they put into their jobs. We are already planning our next trip. Thank you for a fantastic experience.

My husband and I love The Caves! It was by far the best trip we have ever had! Surprisingly, it wasn't the “resort” that had us yearning to return. It was the warmth of the people who worked there that made us feel like family, and that would have us coming back. One of the servers, Stacy, said, "We want it to feel like you're on vacation at your rich auntie's house." And they delivered! More of that later. Let's talk logistics! The Caves in Negril, which is a small all-inclusive resort. We were there between 08/04/24-08/08/24. Warm rain and thunderstorms in the afternoons were sprinkled throughout our stay. We selected Moon Shadow, a two-story mini residence, for our stay. It had two bedrooms; one was on the first floor, and the larger one was on the second floor with a balcony with an almost 180-degree view of the water. It was situated on the northwestern part of the property and adjacent to the area for breakfast and lunch. There was only one bathroom next to the first-floor bathroom, which had an outdoor shower. A small kitchenette was available and supplied with snacks and beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Upon booking this destination, our package included a transfer to and from the Montego Bay Airport. It should have been about an hour and a half drive. However, a festival (Emancipation and Independence Day) occurred during that week. It took approximately 3 hours or so to arrive at the resort. Chris was our driver to and from The Caves. He was a wealth of knowledge and suggested we stop for amazing jerk chicken on the way to our destination. At this all-inclusive resort, food service was only during specific times. Meal items offered were a choice of a traditional Jamaican meal or an alternative. Most times, we feasted on the local fare. But when I saw the banana pancakes, I had to try them once because they smelt so delicious! It did not disappoint! Initially, my husband and I were uncertain about having enough food to sustain us. However, that concern quickly melted away. Snacks and drinks were abundant. We must thank Randy and Floyd for those wonderful drinks! I also enjoyed a wonderful coffee scrub from Elizabeth at the spa. I was able to shower everything off in the adjacent shower/sauna area. This was also included in our package. Dinner was an outdoor, candlelit experience set on the balcony of one of the buildings on the south side. The chefs have mastered their craft. You can taste the "one love." We thought this experience would be more relaxing and low-key than our previous visit to Jamaica. There was a lot of relaxing, but jumping off the natural cliffs of the property was NOT low-key by any means. This location is blessed to have several areas to cliff jump or dive. Thank you to Brandon and Earl! They were our experts on-site to ensure we were safe during those activities. The highest cliff was approximately 30 feet tall. All of them were exhilaratingly terrifying and so much fun! I even convinced my husband to jump off them as well! Activities like cliff jumping, cliff diving, snorkeling, and kayaking were also offered and included. There were a handful of coves to explore with schools of fish and jellyfish. One morning, when the waters were calm, there was a group of dolphins swimming and jumping out of the water! On the last evening, my husband and I decided to do a special Cave dinner. Floyd helped to make it more magical than it already was! I wish I could add a video of one of the locations for the Cave dinner to this posting. Words and pictures do not do it justice. I have videos of our stay, but only photos are permitted on TripAdvisor. The people here are generous and welcoming. Most have been working there for years, so it does feel like family surrounds you! We had everything we needed and did not choose to leave the property! Shout out to the entire staff: Manager Karen, Melissa at the front desk, Omar and Nastasia dinner servers, housekeeping, groundskeepers, chefs, bellman, and others that we didn't meet personally but impacted our stay tremendously. Thank you from deep within our souls. We are forever changed, thanks to all of you. Many blessings from John and Vanessa. TIPS: - Be respectful and nice to the staff! They are wonderful, welcoming hosts of the property and ambassadors of the island! - Free wi-fi was available. This came in handy when I needed this to do schoolwork! - Bring a couple of travel-sized mosquito sprays! - Ask your driver what you can buy to deter the mosquitos besides the mosquito spray. - Jamaica has humid weather. Bring beachwear, swimsuits, sarongs, hats, etc. If you want to dress up, a simple dress for the ladies, a button-up short-sleeved shirt or polo, and a nicer pair of shorts. Footwear, sandals all day! - Bring an empty Yeti or receptacle to keep your beverages cold. - If you don't like sharing, bring your own snorkel. - No kids under the age of 16 allowed. - There are only a few cottages. Book early! - No beach on property, and we didn’t miss it! - Do the cave dinner! It costs a little bit, but it is worth it!!! - Explore! Try something new, whether it's food or an activity. - The famous Rick's Cafe is not far from The Caves. Activity can be heard until 9 pm most nights. - If you get motion sickness, bring anti-nausea medicine. I wanted to snorkel longer but forgot to take it before we got in the water.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in June 2024 and it is truly the most remarkable place. This is the second time we have stayed and it is relaxing, intimate, and special. Food- The food is amazing. I'm vegan and they prepared special meals for me. Some of my favorites were coconut corn, tomato soup, bean tostada, bean lasagna, and the desserts. 5 course dinners! Breakfests and lunches mainly Jamaican food, which we like, but they also will make things like pancakes for those who prefer that. My husband is not vegan and also loved all of his food, especially the seafood. Drinks- Great drinks, even top shelf liquor. Shoutout to Stacy, she took great care of us and was such a kind soul. There is wine and beer in the room. Room- We love the large tub, mosquito net, and general vibe of the room. Soft pillows. There is a fan in the room which is definetely needed as it does get very warm. Housekeeping does an amazing job. Actvities- We loved PK! He took us out kayaking and taught us to safely jump from the cliffs (we even did the 30!). We loved watching him do dives too. We snorkled a lot, plenty of fish and stingrays to see. Got in lots of reading with beautiful views. I also enjoyed the complementary yoga class. Grounds- The grounds are very well maintained. Beautiful views. Also, there are some cats on property you can see. If you are looking to relax, enjoy great food and drinks, and have a great team of staff, this is the place for you! We LOVE the Caves.

My wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary last week at The Caves and couldn't have had a nicer time. The staff were amazing. Everyone was so welcoming, friendly, and willing to help out in any way. Chris transported us from the airport and made sure our trip got started off on the right foot. He shared his knowledge of Jamaican culture, history, and was available to transport you anywhere to see the sites. The meals were delicious and the private cave dinner made our 30th a special evening. Although we never met the "behind the scenes" chefs their meals were one of the many highlights of our trip. Life guards Earl and Brandon were very attentive to making sure guests had easy access to snorkeling gear and kayaks and we enjoyed both sharing their knowledge of marine life in the area. Brandon was an impressive cliff diver and offered instructions to guest for safe cliff jumping. Stacey, Fernando, Floyd, and Margaret are a few of the money of the wonderful people who also made our stay very memorable.

Just wow. This is the place to go for three or four nights to just switch off and relax. We were in the birds nest room, I think that is what it’s called, absolutely amazing views and room. The food is amazing. I like fact you can help send to drinks etc. The cave dinner omg so romantic. I would rate this 9.5 out of ten. A couple of minor tweaks and would be a 10. It would be nice to have some live music some nights and would be great if the actually bar with oxtails stayed open a bit later. For me this is the perfect 3 or 4 night getaway :) We are staying in their other property Strawberry Hill in August can’t wait!

The Caves resort in Jamaica is an absolute treasure. The three words that describe it for me are magical, fairytale, unforgettable. The beauty and quality of service is beyond words. The beautiful staff are the warmest and most hospitable, welcoming people ever. They are lights in this world. Thank you all for sharing your light with me!
