Love returning to this hotel with its excellent location only yards from the centre of town. We had a beautiful room at the top of the Tower with a really comfortable king size bed & floor to ceiling windows making the most of the stunning views over Athlone & the river Shannon. The Club Lounge with its complimentary snacks & beverages is an added bonus & a nice quiet place to relax . Every time we come to Athlone we love staying here.

No hot water! 7 nights in Ireland, 5 different hotels, and on our last morning, in the most expensive hotel of them all, there’s no hot water so we have to catch an international flight with body odour! Sorry to our fellow passengers - it’s Sheraton’s fault.
Other niggles - have to get two separate lifts to get to our room, no USB sockets in the room, masses of switches, but no labels.

Great staff all around (restaurants, desk, and club). Joe on Club Lounge on Thursday was just fantastic with banter and hosting - very helpful, always kind and warm, responsive! When food ran out (it was a busy day in the club), they came up right away and refilled food and drinks within 15 min. Spotless rooms, water bottles refilled every day, and super cozy beds. The hotel is central to walk around everywhere you want, it is stunning and accessible location. Parking is included, which is a top perk, IMO if you rent a car like we did. We spent 5 days at this hotel and it was a great base to use as we did day trips to Doolin, Moher and Galway on 2 of those days. We will definitely go back again! Thanks to all the wonderful staff!

The hotel offers a fantastic selection of dining options, with two great restaurants, a lively bar, and even a private residence bar, making it easy to find the perfect atmosphere to unwind. The food was absolutely fantastic—every meal was a delight.
The amenities were equally impressive. The pool, spa, and gym were top-notch, providing the perfect balance of relaxation and fitness options. The facilities were well-maintained and added an extra layer of luxury to the stay.
Above all, the management and staff were outstanding. Their professionalism, attentiveness, and friendliness truly set the Sheraton apart. They made the experience even more enjoyable with their top-class service.
I can’t recommend this hotel enough and will definitely be returning. A truly fantastic stay!

We were very disappointed with our stay.
From first we arrived at the reception I told the lady when I booked our stay I called specifically for one of the 2 rooms they have with bathtub at the window. I asked the person at the phone 3 times if I will get one of this rooms and I was told yes. When we arrived it wasn’t one of this 2 rooms and if I wanted one of them I needed to pay extra €80. Ok.. I didn’t wanted to pay extra in special when I was told that I will get the room in the money that I booked at first via phone. So we got some random room. When we arrived there and we saw the shower, Jesus Crist!! Disgusting 🤢
But we needed to shower after our trip. I needed to shower with the speed of light and wash my hair because the shower was flooding and started to go under the door on the bathroom floor.
We did told at the reception and we were told that somebody will fix it for us. Nobody fix it because in the evening when we got back to the room and took shower we had the same problem!!!
Overall we will never go and stay in this hotel again, we thought we will have a relaxing getaway but better we had stay home.
I am very sorry for the bad reviews as I am working in hospitality too but I was so disappointed !!

The room was clean, spacious and huge bed. The decor was very modern & inviting
The girl in reception gave us lots of tips, it was our first visit to athlone town so she had a few things written down on the map which was great.
The breakfast the following morning was gorgeous & the take away coffee cups are a lovely touch
We will come back again soon

Recently stayed in the Sheraton Hotel Athlone with some friends/couples. Check-in and check-out was very easy and uncomplicated. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Toiletries excellent, bed very comfortable and large, tea and coffee making facilities available. Swimming pool, sauna, steam room were all of the highest quality. Breakfast was fantastic, plenty of buffet options, all your favourites available. Did not have dinner in the hotel, but menu looked great, and good value.
Hotel is very easily accessed from the local train station, but there is also car parking facilities available. Athlone town is not a big town, but has loads to offer, shopping, sightseeing, tourist activities, pubs, restaurants. All within walking distance from this great hotel. I would highly recommend staying here.

Great Hotel in the centre of Athlone with good parking. Lovely staff and very good food. Comfortable rooms with all the facilities one requires. The staff are first class very friendly and efficient. One staff member in particular we found to be a terrific asset to the main dining room, Mr Joe Carmody a charming and lovely Kerry man. This gentleman is so helpful and charming to all of his guests both young and old, nothing is too much trouble for him.

This is a lovely hotel from which to explore the midlands, but also if you want, you don’t have to leave the hotel.
We really enjoy returning to this hotel, which we have done a number of times. Staff at reception, bar and spa are all welcoming and friendly. The food in the bar is excellent. The Saturday night live music was really great and we stayed out much later than we intended.
Fantastic location, friendly staff, clean comfortable room, amazing food and superb service. What makes the hotel is the staff. Everyone we encountered were so friendly from arrival to departure. Will definitely be back again very soon

I stayed here for my anniversary with my boyfriend and we had a great time. It is located in a beautiful area right in the centre of Athlone so perfect for exploring the town. While Athlone is nice, the hotel itself is wonderful. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, especially upon entering the bar and being greeted by a member of staff - Álvaro, who made sure we were served quickly and provided us with great service and also great conversation. The bar and the restaurant are really beautiful and the staff were helpful and kind. I would recommend to anyone staying in Athlone. Overall great experience.

After submitting feedback through the Sheraton Athlone guest survey, I received a follow-up call regarding my review. Unfortunately, the call left me more frustrated than reassured.
The caller did not introduce herself by name but said she was calling from the Sheraton Athlone in relation to my feedback. I appreciated the gesture and began to explain the first point from my review — namely, that we had booked and paid for the night of April 16 in order to access our room immediately upon arrival early on the 17th.
Her response was: “The problem was your reservation.” That framing is unacceptable. I had booked the night of the 16th intentionally and had even notified the hotel in advance that we would be arriving early on the 17th and would need the room upon arrival. To be told the issue was with my reservation — as if I had done something wrong — is not only dismissive, but it completely ignores the planning and communication I undertook as a guest.
There was no apology, no clarification of the hotel’s process, and no reassurance that the matter would be reviewed or improved going forward. Instead, I was effectively blamed for a failure in service. When I challenged the caller on this, she simply said, “I believe you,” but the damage was already done. I then hung up as it was a pointless all after that introduction.
To the hotel’s management: I strongly suggest you review how your staff are trained to handle guest feedback. Reaching out to guests after a less-than-satisfactory stay is a good idea — but only if it's handled with professionalism, humility, and a sincere desire to improve. This was my third time staying at your hotel, and sadly, it may well be my last based on the way this call was handled. Below was my original review.
We were disappointed with several aspects of our experience.
First, we deliberately booked and paid for the night of April 16 knowing we would arrive early on the 17th after an overnight flight, specifically so we could access our room immediately. Upon arrival, we were asked to step aside and wait—completely defeating the purpose of having prepaid for the extra night. It was a frustrating and poorly handled welcome.
Second, the logistics around parking were inefficient. It regularly took up to 10 minutes just to get parking validated, and given the 10-minute walk from the tower rooms to the car park, guests should budget at least 30 minutes just to leave the property. This process felt unnecessarily slow and cumbersome.
Lastly, we opted into the “green service” option, which promised replenishment of coffee supplies. While the coffee pods were restocked, our dirty mugs were left untouched. When I asked about this, I was told that removing used mugs wasn’t included because of our “green” choice. This makes little sense and undercuts the program’s intent—sustainability shouldn’t be synonymous with sloppy service.
In short, while the stay had potential, execution fell short in ways that impacted convenience and comfort.

It was a short walk to Sean’s, which had great trad, but I did expect it to look a little more Middle Ages inside.
