Great views across the water of the old town, lovely big beds and spacious suites. Superb breakfast - masses of choice and everything fresh - on the terrace overlooking Lokrum island. Big spa with several saunas/Turkish baths, though the gym's not that well equipped and is perched on a narrow floor overlooking the pool, which is however big with 2 jacuzzis. Staff are professional and friendly, though at breakfast tend to whisk away your plates too enthusiastically, finished or not. Also the new wing, while luxurious inside, is an modernist eyesore and clashes with the beauty of the old town when viewed from the sea. Apart from that I can't fault it. An extra gold star for refunding me when the price dropped subsequently after I paid in advance. Well done.

We were in Dubrovnik in the low season and had a chance to experience a room with sea view in both parts of the hotel ( villa odak & the tower). This hotel has spectacular view of the sea and old town, a nice and easy walk to the old town, and professional service on many levels. The piano bar level is spacious and modern to lounge in down time. As we were here in November, we did not have a chance to experience the outdoor part of the hotel, but with much fewer guests, we sometimes felt like we had the hotel all to ourselves. Our stay couldn’t be more special. The restaurant on site was nothing compared to the quality/value of the restaurants in old town, but overall this hotel delivers in most aspects.

We had a wonderful short break and very glad we chose this hotel. Ideally placed overlooking the Old Town and a great time of year to visit as not busy at all. The breakfast buffet was one of the best, so much choice. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The view at the breakfast table on the sea just incredible. Best I’ve ever seen. The spa is perfect for me because I love a sauna and a steam and they are very hot! Easy walk inside city walls. We were in Dubrovnik when the weather was perfect and the large crowds were gone. Lucky us!

This hotel rocks. We stayed here for 3 nights over our honeymoon, and it was our favorite hotel from the whole trip. From the jump, you walk in, and know that they knew what were doing whilst designing the property. A gorgeous view of the old city of Dubrovnik is your first impression. The room was a little tight, but thoughtfully built as well, and everything was very clean. Shower pressure was top notch. Included breakfast had a very large spread, and we ended up eating there every day, which is atypical for us. The beach area was, of course, our favorite. Such a cool spot to read looking out onto the old city, and jump in the Adriatic. The hotel is a very quick 6 minute walk down to the city, which was incredibly convenient. Ivana and Mia were so helpful our entire stay. They booked us transportation, tours, and an excursion to Montenegro. True hospitality professionals. Stay here!

This is one of the best breakfast we have had in recent years. Breakfast is a wide spread, types of yougurt, fruits, desserts, eggs, cheese and can also order from the menu. Service is very prompt and professional.
Great Sea views from the hotel, facing the Lokrum island and also views of Dubrovinik wall from the breakfast area. Natural pool, direct access to sea for a swim. Did not use the indoor swimming pool.
Most of the rooms have sea view and wall view from the balcony.
Happy to return.

We have recently returned from a 10-night stay at the Excelsior, and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience having enjoyed our first stay there in July 2024.
This time we booked directly with the hotel, arranging flights separately, and the hotel arranged transfers for us from and to the airport which were excellent.
We booked a Villa Odak Deluxe sea view balcony room, which was in the original 1913 Villa Odak part of the hotel, and our room on the top floor had magnificent views of the Adriatic, Lokrum Island and Dubrovnik Old Town. The room, although not large, was stylish and comfortable with a good sized marble clad bathroom with a bath and separate large shower, and with a balcony from which we enjoyed watching the sun set over Dubrovnik Old Town.
Our rate included breakfast which was very good with a wide range of hot and cold food, and with seating both indoors or on the terrace with great views. We particularly enjoyed the Abakus Piano Bar which had a wonderful comfortably furnished terrace, again with magnificent views toward Lokrum Island and Dubrovnik Old Town, and which served a great choice of drinks and casual food. We did intend to dine in the Prora Beach Restaurant, but during our stay it was closed in the evenings due to weather and sea conditions.
The hotel has a large indoor pool, with jacuzzis and saunas, and a sea level terrace from which you can relax in the sun or jump directly into the warm (in September) Adriatic Sea.
What we really appreciated was the warmth and helpfulness of all of the staff we encountered, who really made us feel valued as guests. In particular, Ivo and his Front Office staff were very helpful throughout our stay, as was the Concierge Rafaela who arranged restaurant reservations for us and gave us a lot advice about what to see and do in the Dubrovnik area. Special mention to Ivan, Katia and Zeliko in the Abakus Bar who provided a really great and friendly service, as did Pavo and Tibor on the sea level terrace and our maid Ana, who was always very friendly and attentive and ensured that our room was made up whilst we were having breakfast.
Overall the Excelsior provides a wonderful base for an enjoyable stay in Dubrovnik and we certainly intend to visit again in the future.

In early September, my husband and I stay here for 2 nights, our first stop on a 10 day trip through Croatia. It was a great place to land after the overnight flight from New York. Upon arrival, we hardly wanted to rest after taking in the view and taking a peek at the spa. How can one nap when there is so much to enjoy?
Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik is located perfectly - outside of the busy walled city and just a short walk to everything you want to see and do. Our room, a one bedroom suite with sea view, was so comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast is wonderful - too many delicious options. The included spa amenities, a huge indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, etc, was a great way to start the day. There is also direct and easy access to the sea. In September the water was perfectly warm. The staff was friendly and helpful. Check-in and check-out were efficient. We had an airport pick up and a transfer to the ferry terminal - both on time and easy.
While in Dubrovnik, we ate at Ezza Steak & Cocktail and Rudjer, both wonderful. After dinner, we strolled back to the hotel, and enjoyed the bar and outdoor lounge with views of the stars, sea and the walled city.

My husband and I just visited this beautiful hotel and had a wonderful experience. The personnel are very attentive to all your needs and go beyond the ordinary to help. We found the concierge Ivana and Marko especially helpful with locating our lost luggage at the airport and following up with it until it was found and placed into our room. They were excellent with helping us with directions and offering suggestions with places to visit. It cannot go without mentioning the lovely Paula who served us breakfast each morning with a big smile and greeting. What a wonderful way to start our day in paradise of Dubrovnik. We will always remember what caring people we encountered while vacationing at Hotel Excelsior and hope to return.

My partner (Alex) & I would like to thank THE CONCIERGE STAFF - particularly IVANA and RAFAELA for all you have planned / done for us in advance & during our stay. The Private Boat experience was amazing & of course you pre-arranged the gorgeous sunset trip for us & not to mention all the amazing restaurants (Nautika, Proto & Posat) you have recommended.
Special Shout out to Marko (Front Desk) for being helpful.
The location of elevators and the different level is confusing.
The pool service was POOR. The seaside staff lack attentiveness and could do more with more staff. 1 pool staff is barely sufficient. Our drink (a Mojito) was just BAD (sorry!)
Extensive Selection at Breakfast (GOOD) but the (only ordered special) food was a bit tasteless / bland.
Some of the communal areas seemed EMPTY(even though the hotel is fully booked), a bit soulless & VIBE(less).

We were originally booked at Villa Dubrovnik but because that property remains under renovation we were informed that our reservation was being shifted to the Adriatic Hotel Group, the owner of the Excelsior. The Group is affiliated with a few Dubrovnik hotels. We chose the Excelsior because it was located close to Villa Dubrovnik. And, indeed the location is a highlight—-close to the old city but just far enough outside the chaos of the cruise ship hordes to be peaceful. Our room, a deluxe sea view with balcony on the 6th floor of the newer section of the hotel, indeed directly overlooked the Adriatic. The view was the room’s highlight. Otherwise, furnishings were nothing special. Generally, the property felt very institutional and was too large and impersonal for our liking. Staff was fine. However, overall the overall experience lacked the bespoke touch of the Villa Dubrovnik. Breakfast was okay but food quality paled in comparison with that we experienced at other high end Croatia hotels. Hopefully Villa Dubrovnik reopens in 2025 as it is (or, at least it was its prior form) legions better.

My wife and I came to Dubrovnik and selected what we believed to be the best hotel in the city. While we were glad not to stay in the old city, the Excelsior was a bit further from the old city than expected - especially if you are dressed up for dinner.
The hotel feels like an AC Marriott in style and decor. The staff is grumpy and not very helpful. We stayed in other luxury hotels in Split and Hvar and the staff were amazing. The excelsior was in no way a 5-star hotel. The rooms a bit dirty, the safe not secure.
The hotel was full of tour groups and the lobby was always crowded with them. The tour groups got all the attention. The reception desk is understaffed. There was a long line to checkout and when we told them we were in a rush to catch our flight, no one cared. Would not stay there if we came to Dubrovnik again.

This hotel commands a fantastic location if you want to be close to the old town of Dubrovnik. Location is 5 star . I can’t say the same for the rest of the hotel .
We booked this hotel as part of a British airways package twinning Dubrovnik with Montenegro. Maybe because we did not book direct with the hotel we seemed to get offered the worse rooms in the hotel . Eventually after seeing room 3 we reluctantly accepted a room.
It was tiny . We had to move a table on to the tiny balcony to get space to move round the bed . We then had to move the bed to get drawers open in the wardrobe .
Just ridiculous. The receptionist told us the hotel was busy with Coca Cola conference ! Clearly they had the best rooms …
Breakfast was very good with brilliant staff . Also a huge thumbs up for the door men who battled through rainy conditions.
The bar was hugely understaffed . The staff were polite but under too much pressure especially when rain one evening meant that everyone stayed in !
Another bad point in the bar was when ordering pre dinner drinks we were never offered bar snacks . No olives, nuts, crisps etc . Eventually on the rainy night we did ask for snacks and some nuts appeared .
There is no outdoor pool just a sea water pool and sunbathing area is only open on good weather days ! The indoor pool area is lovely if weather forces you inside .
Fabulous meal in the beach restaurant one warm evening with again good service . All in a mixed review on this hotel . Sorry to say just missed the mark for me . Five star it is not . And beware the conference crowd !

We’ve just checked out and we loved this hotel. From the moment we walked through the door the team couldn’t do enough for us. Super helpful, polite, nothing was too much trouble. We stayed for 3 nights and had a partial sea view in the tower - very modern, spotlessly clean, well appointed, loads of towels and nice products. The view of the old town was fabulous. We had dinner in Prora Restaurant on our first night and that was fabulous, beautiful setting, great food and wine. They even gave us anti mosquito spray as there were a few around.
Breakfast each morning was great - waiter service for a la carte choices, coffee, juices etc but also a fabulous buffet with lots of choice. Regularly refreshed and beautifully laid out. Again service and attention to detail at every turn.
We had drinks on the terrace on 2 occasions and room service one night due to a bad thunderstorm- again all great. Our flight tonight is quite late so they kindly arranged for a smaller room for us to use so we could make the most of our last day.
It’s a short walk to the old town - say 10 minutes max and another 5 or so to the Pile Gate so a great base to explore the beautiful city of Dubrovnik. Would return in a heartbeat.
