Lovely hotel our room was in the Adults only section with a great pool outside the room . Although we did have a problem for about 4 days our shower tray would Not empty and was up to the rim in water which did not flow away as it should. The staff were really Great and the food was very good although advertised with a Asian restaurant that looks like it took most of the year to open. Still not open while we were there some ten months after we booked. Very clean and in a good location with Bus stop outside and taxi always available , also you can book excursions from the hotel. There is a small beach and two pools and a good spa , all in all we had a great stay , I must say the Staff make this hotel from the very friendly Chef with her amazing omelettes to the waiters and reception staff and bar staff also Paul on Security . Many thanks to all who work very hard to make our stay perfect

We stayed at Waves for four nights after a cruise and were delighted with our stay. Our room was in the adults section over the road from the main hotel. The room was excellent and the pool area was very quiet and relaxing. Staff frequently passed by the pool area to ask if we needed any drinks which were very quickly brought round. The hotel is all inclusive with two main dining rooms. We tried both which were excellent and the Indian restaurant located within the adult area is outstanding ! Breakfast was varied and plentiful with something to suit everybody. Make sure to catch up with Ether who will cook you an omelette to perfection ! Such a lovely friendly lady who will also give you tips on how to create the perfect omelette at home. The bus stop is just outside the hotel and a trip to Bridgetown or Holetown on the reggae bus is an experience not to be missed. They run very frequently and are very cheap. We also went on a couple of trips (Sightseeing and turtle swimming) which were organised by Waves and as well as being very good were good value. Overall we felt very well looked after during our stay which was the perfect end to our holiday after a fairly busy weeks cruising. We thoroughly recommend Waves.

Went for a quick last minute vacation and we were pleasantly surprised! First thing is the staff! Awesome from the front desk, the servers and the fellow sweeping the stairs. Beach is small but oh well. I would recommend reserving your spot by 800am. Only 3 restaurants so we thought we would eat out. No the change up the menus and the food is excellent. We were just in Sandals in St Lucia and we found the food and the staff were superior at the Waves! I would recommend this hotel.

The previous reviews generally provide a balanced view of this property The hotel is extremely tired and in need of refurbishment. That said I did meet a few people who had stayed in the adult section across the road who suggested the rooms appeared to have been recently updated. We stayed in room 203 (Ocean Suite). An amazing view overlooking the sea. Our room was spacious but it was very tired and in need of some TLC. Neither the main door or the balcony doors fit correctly with large gaps around the edges. Not normally a problem but this resort is right between a busy road and the sea and there is significant traffic noise from 5am in the morning. We were woken every morning at around this time by the traffic. The road users / busses do like using their horns to attract attention. Otherwise the room is ok. No frills. A very basic mini bar with only 2 beers. No other alcohol and they generally remembered to refill daily!! Not every day though. Otherwise most things in the room worked adequately. Bathroom ok but also needs refurbishment. Tile grouting very grubby and silicone sealer looks like it was applied by a young child. A lot has been said about the beach in previous reviews. If you like your beach you will be hugely disappointed as we were. There is about 10 x 5 meters of it and they cram about 25 beds into the space. Unfortunately much of the beach has been eroded and most of the pictures presented by the hotel or the tour operators online misrepresent the current status of the beach. The water often washes up past your bed so don’t leave your flip flops on the sand or they will be washed away. Service in the beach is haphazard, depends on whether anybody has been assigned to it or remembers to come down from the bar. Watersport guys were great and helpful. Bar service was really good. No complaints there. Never had to wait long and the team working the bar were really good. One of the reasons we booked this resort was the option to be able to visit the sister hotels for both the beaches and restaurants. STAY IN ONE PLAY IN MANY is the Marriott slogan!! Unfortunately only one is open (Treasure Beach). Thankfully as the name suggests Treasure Beach does have a lovely Beach and we spent many days there. There was supposed to be a water taxi to this hotel but it “had sprung a leak” and wasn’t operating. We ended up walking (30mins) to it although a bus or taxi option also exists at your own expense. Food options at the hotel are limited to 2 restaurants. Seascape which is the only option for breakfast and lunch (buffet style) and alternates between a la carte and buffet in the evenings and Dosa an Indian option which is open 4 or 5 times a week. The food was generally good but the options for both buffet and a la carte are very limited and we got a bit bored with the limited selection during our 9 day stay. Reception staff were great and always tried to accommodate requests and sort meals at Treasure Beach etc. I thought they were very knowledgeable and always keen to help. We have stayed at a number of 4/5 star hotels across the Caribbean, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Europe and this resort is very mediocre in comparison. Probably a 3.5 star. We wouldn’t stay again. Couldn’t criticise any of the staff though. All excellent just trying to operate in a resort that needs some investment. I’d expected more from a Marriott.

We have just returned from our second stay at Waves. We had a pool view room in the adults only area. The room was moderns and clean and had all the facilities we needed. The beach area was much smaller that at our previous visit due to erosion, not much the hotel can do about tides and weather, hopefully the sand will return. We spent most of our time at the pool in the adult area. I would say that the food in the main dining area was not quite as good as it had been in our previous visit. On a couple of occasions we were told that our choice from the menu was not available and no alternative was offered. On one occasion we found the spiced lamb was mainly bone and fat, when the staff noticed it had not been eaten they asked if there was a problem and offered to replace it with an alternative. We did not find the speed of service to be a problem. Overall we had a wonderful time, the staff were very helpful and welcoming, and if you asked for something they were always willing to help.

We stayed at the 5 star Autograph Waves resort Barbados for one week from 4th March 2025. I have stayed in many Marriot Bonvoy hotels over the years as a Good Elite member and this hotel is by far the worse. It cost the best $10k for a one week all-inclusive package. The positives:- The location of the hotel in St James is nice perched just above the water with beautiful sunsets. Our room was an ocean view room, the view was terrific but the room itself was fairly basic for an expensive room and the bed and pillows rather uncomfortable. Generally all the staff in the hotel were very friendly. The Negative:- What you can’t tell from the website pictures when you book this resort is that it is essentially split in half by a main road. If you stay in the main hotel as we did you have to cross a noisy and busy main road to get to the spa and the main pool…..we nearly got run over once and I’d hate to have elderly parents here as it’s dangerous. The service is possibly the worse we have ever had it’s so slow it’s ridiculous whether at dinner, by the pool, at the bar or on the beach don’t expect any service to be quick….getting a drink takes about an hour. The house keeping staff will wake you every morning at about 8 chatting at the top of their voices outside your room for 30 mins which was really irritating after the first few days. The restaurants and bar selection were just poor for a 5* resort full stop. Two restaurants….one Indian which was not good at all and an Al la carte/buffet restaurant in the main hotel which was at best average. We in fact ate out of the hotel on four out of the seven nights despite having paid the all inclusive rate. The bar was mostly local branded alcohol which again for a 5* resort is just not good enough. Lastly we asked to change a $100 bill into smaller notes to pay for a taxi and they would only change it into Barbados dollars and take a commission which I thought was simply unacceptable. All in all we would not use this resort again. A wonderful view alone does not even get close to being value for money when paying the best part of $10k. We regret booking it and wished we had gone someplace else.

Just recently returned from our week stay at this hotel following a cruise, i always read reviews and take the negatives with a pinch of salt however, some of the poor reviews were accurate. A very warm welcome from the front desk reception team and a well presented introduction of the hotel etc i will start with the good points as follows. our room was in the Adults only side which was clean and tidy, but room was a little dated but good. view from room ok nothing special looking down on to pool, this area was clean and tidy and well served by staff. we ate in the Asian restraint the first night and on request made a meal for my wife that didn't contain Chilli food was to be fair very good this night. across the road in the main building was the bar and the main restaurant, and bar. the bar men serving in the bar in the evenings were very friendly and with good humour. breakfast was to a good standard most days with a reasonable selection, however on occasions the food trays would be empty and you may have to wait some time for them to be replenished. Ether made a great omelette and vey friendly. on some occasions there would be a Bar b Que served from the decking this was in my opinion the best choice for lunch, as it was fresh and cooked to order fish when served was very good. Now the not so good. out of five nights dining in the main restaurant 2 of which were à la carte i would only credit them to have served one good meal and served to the standard i was expecting from this hotel. more often than not the service was putting it politely was poor and sometimes just downright rude, one evening after ordering our meals we waited 45 minutes for our stater it was only when someone next to us was served (who came in some 30 mins after us) we questioned and they had obviously had forgotten us. as they had another couple who ended up just having their mains. when it did arrive it was awful, our à la carte main came again very poor, in the mean time one of the hotel acts started, it was that loud you really couldn't hear a thing, at this we left the restaurant very frustrated having such appalling service, to the extent i spoke with the duty manager Christopher to express how disappointed we were with the service that we had. overall service and standard of food was as said before very poor, while sitting on the decking area with sea view it was very pleasant the actual standard of the decking floor was appalling with bodged up repairs, night time entertainment was poor again with exception of one night when there was a group of three who were very good. beach was small around 30 sun loungers beach is with poor access, seas were a little rough so that is out of the hands of the hotel. overall the standard of the Hotel doesn't warrant a 4 star a very mediocre hotel that has a very expensive fee for this standard. unfortunately the hard working polite and helpful staff are let down by others..

We were terribly underwhelmed with this Marriott property and our experience here was terrible. We have stayed at several Marriott properties all over the world, including the Marriott property on Grand Cayman. They have always lived up to their reputation of well maintained property, welcoming staff and amenities. Waves was unfortunately very disappointing - from the check-in, which was not very welcoming or friendly….to the room. This was not the all inclusive resort that we had expected having paid very upscale resort prices. This was at best a glorified motel! There was barely any beach with beach chairs piled on top of each other on the tiny triangular patch of sand. Definitely not as pictured in brochure - which was very misleading! This is a tired property screaming for being updated! The room upon checking in was not cleaned - floors were gritty with sand and coral and the balcony flooring was dirty. The bathroom was barely clean. The shower was barely functional - water from shower head was a trickle. The body sprays trickled water into the wall. We tried calling reception to complain, but the phone did not work in the room and did not work our entire stay - although we pointed it out. We had to go down to reception to complain to the manager Kim, who was trying to make excuses and tell us that their flooring had texture instead of dealing with the issues of room not being cleaned properly from sand and coral. She also said that the shower body sprays had not worked for a while and were turned off, but the body sprays in our room were leaking water and affected shower head pressure. The last straw was when she asked us if we had turned on the phone by pressing the talk button - we had to emphasize that we had many times ….and we did not have a working phone our whole stay! We could tell that some unprofessional repairs like grouting and stucco repairs were done to the room, but it was terrible and obvious patch jobs. The bathroom door was old and faded with water stains. Sink did not have stopper. Toilet paper dispenser was placed at inconvenient hard to reach spot with obvious stucco patches where installed. Soap and shampoo dispensers in shower were also placed inconveniently. The shower door tracks were rusty. Breakfast and lunch were uninspired buffet style with lackadaisical service. Additional Dining Options were not pointed out at time of seating. I was yelled at across the restaurant by Jennifer ( one of the hostesses) when I went to the front of the restaurant to look at the printed menu - ‘ that’s the dinner menu’ she yelled!!! Shirese tried to make amends and check on our pizza which had not arrived after 30 mins. We had to leave the restaurant without eating our pizza as we were catching our flight. Shirese was kind enough to bring the pizza to the room as we packed. Restaurant Dosa was across the street and the fine dining option at waves - we had drinks and appetizers here one night which were great! Tiara at reception, was very helpful and ordered us take out dinner at 10 pm as all restaurants on site were closed. All in all not the resort experience advertised on website ….Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere on your trip to Barbados.

This is our last day of a wonderful two week stay at Waves. The food, service and people are excellent. Dining is rotated from a la carte to buffet style and this gives a really good variety for an all inclusive hotel. The vast majority of water sports are included which is a great idea with various lessons if you want them. There is a water taxi to other Elegant hotels which is another bonus and Ash who took us out on the small catamaran was knowledgeable and a delight to meet. All the staff are highly trained and made us feel special and welcome, too many to mention but Sharesa who manages the restaurant is outstanding as everything runs like clockwork when she is in charge and she just brightens your day with her wonderful personality and professionalism. Ether deserves a mention also for her great omelettes, cooking lessons and friendly chat. Valerie and Sabrina also worked tirelessly to make our stay so special as did Kenrick and Olivia who never stop at the bar. We like to keep fit on holiday and a point to note is that the gym could benefit from an upgrade as it is small and needs better weights/weight machines. One of us likes to run outdoors and really enjoyed running to neighbouring villages and meeting people as the Barbadians are so kind and friendly. In a nutshell, we loved Waves, Barbados and meeting so many wonderful people. We will be back. Thank you!

We stayed at this lovely hotel for seven nights in an ocean front room, well worth the extra cost. Everything in the hotel was spotless, the food was varied and catered for all tastes. Staff were attentive and pleasant. Our only disappointment was that the beach had been severely eroded just the week before arrival and was largely out off commission. Water taxi service was available to take us to sister hotel beaches and that was appreciated, Absence of beach access put pressure on hotel sunbed availability as some clients tried to "towel book" beds. Jackie however dealt with this issue as soon as we raised it with her, thank you Jackie. We loved our stay, Barbadians are so very friendly and genuine people. Spa treatments were lovely. Meant the best of people and made friends who I am sure we will meet again. Thanks again Jackie and staff for a great stay ahead of us boarding the Royal Clipper ship.

The Waves is absolute paradise. The views are spectacular. The service is amazing. Facilities are great. Do not take notice of any “mixed” reviews as it is near perfection. The rooms are great - clean with ample air con The food is top notch - great fresh hot breakfast selection, buffet lunch or paninis/ salads/ cheese and pickle toasties in coffee shop. We had one evening meal and the menu was extensive and food was good. The Team are fantastic from the cleaning team to reception to the food and beverage team. Very responsive and do it with a smile - just be happy and they reciprocate. Sunbathing is split between 3 areas - adult pool is large and beautiful setting, beach is picturesque although eroded by the storms and the family pool is fine but small. We always found 4x loungers together after 10am in one of the areas. All inclusive is the best I’ve seen - mini bar, cocktails, bubbles all included. Location in St James is perfect for Tides, Lone Star, The Cliff etc. We used Waves as a base and went out to enjoy the island and its many great restaurants and beaches. It has been an absolute pleasure to stay and this is made possible by the Team, the facilities and the most amazing views directly onto the Caribbean!! Ignore any dodgy reviews - the Barbados culture needs to be embraced rather than criticised.

Outstanding Hotel . We chose Waves after receiving recommendation from a friend who had been there numerous times . From the start the warm welcome from staff and the beautiful setting of the Hotel, which is immaculate, with such warm and welcoming staff team, confirmed our choice. There was a definite theme of returning guests and having spent 10 nights there, including the fabulous service and attention to detail on New Year’s eve, we will definitely be returning too ! As other reviewers have said, the staff team are fabulous here , nothing is too much trouble for them. They are so friendly , cheerful and really care about you having the best experience. We stayed in a ground floor room overlooking the Adult Pool , so peaceful and tranquil which we would highly recommend. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean and the food and cocktails were tasty and varied. We made full use of the complimentary Water Taxi that is a lovely experience in itself, which takes you to the sister hotels, we booked lunches there and made full use of the lovely beaches and water sports there . The main thing that made this an incredible holiday to remember was definitely the warm welcome and ongoing attention to detail in providing a high quality experience from Kim the Hotel Manager and her team. Waves should be very proud of every member of their team who work there and should acknowledge their hard work and dedication to ensuring everyone has a wonderful Holiday. Thank you so much for a fabulous experience,,we will definitely return. Love Annie & Garry

We have been back a week now and already missing The Waves. Returned a week ago from an amazing Christmas and New Year. We stayed in an Ocean front room which we would highly recommend. The view in the morning and the sunset at night was stunning. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the food good and varied. Much better than most all inclusives with lots of choice and quality. The hotel is split in 2 halves but we knew this when we booked and it was never an issue. The adult pool was great and the beach all be it slightly tight for space at times it was amazing. A very nice touch is the water Taxi that takes you to the sister hotels f.o.c. so you can see what they are also like. The Captain was a great fun guy. The main thing that made this an incredible holiday to remember was the staff, we know many people have said it but the staff were amazing. Kim the Hotel Manager and her team were just so good, attentive, friendly and ensuring you had a great time, nothing was too much trouble. From the moment we arrived the reception staff met us with a smile and a welcome drink. The effort made Christmas and New Year was 110%. I know we shouldnt mention individuals as it was such a great team effort but must say a special thanks to Troy and Tito always bringing drinks and nice cold ices to the beach and pool, Sheriza who always welcomed us to the restaurant with a massive smile and immaculatly dressed, Sabrina and Olivia who waited on us most of the time and made us feel so special and welcome, Cheryl who cooked our eggs how we liked them in the mornings in what must have been a furnace for her. Shamarke and Jamar who looked after us at the bar but a special mention must go to Kenrick the elder statesmen behind the bar (he will kill me but we and others new it as Kenny's bar - Sorry Kenric). Never had to ask twice and he mixed whatever you wanted how you wanted, if your beer was low the next one was there. Absolute Gentleman. Pleasure to sit at the bar with Kenric and some great new friends. Apologise we couldnt include everyone. KIM - You should be very proud of the team you have and their dedication to ensuring we had a great Holiday. Thank you so much Chris & Minna

We have just had a wonderful stay at the Waves Hotel and Spa and cannot recommend it enough. From the moment you arrive you are treated to smiley faces, genuine kindness and amazing hospitality. Nothing is too much trouble! We stayed in the newly renovated adult only area room and it was immaculately clean and comfortable within peaceful grounds. However the room curtains do need changing as they had holes in and the patio door on the 1st floor does not lock properly and is not very secure. Food in the buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner was varied and decent quality. There was enough choice for everyones taste in my opinion. Again the staff were beyond helpful. We did not eat in the new Indian Restaurant and were disappointed that it has changed from Pan Asian which was advertised when we booked the holiday. We did not use the adult pool and spent most of our time at the beach. A warning it is very rocky getting in to the sea so my advice is to bring swim shoes. We did not use the watersports due to the sea been rough. The red flag was not very big and pretty much hidden from sight so people were swimming in the sea. I think the hotel need to make it much clearer when the sea is too dangerous to swim. The evening entertainment was very relaxing and chilled. I used the spa for my free treatments and the staff were lovely and helpful and my pedicure was great. A word of advice book as soon as you arrive as it is very busy and times are limited. The location is very quiet and there is not a lot going on around that area so you would need to travel if you want lively nightlife etc. I will admit we were worried before we arrived due to some of the very negative comments but I soon realised the only ones complaining are from the USA. I can only imagine they live like spoiled brats and eat like Royalty at home as overall we had a fantastic time and I have stayed all over the world! I would recommend this hotel for couples who just want to relax.

My wife chose to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in Barbados instead of having a party. She explored numerous locations with various ratings and ultimately selected Waves. Right off the bat, it seemed that some of the travel ratings must be fake, as we didn’t encounter any issues with the staff. Everyone was courteous, even when they were clearly busy. Waves is a smaller hotel (around 70 rooms) in a less touristy part of the island. It has a quaint beach with roped off swimming area. It has an open concept and is very clean. Our room was awesome with a great view of the Caribbean. Staff were exceptionally nice and were ready to give advice about the surrounding area. If you require a taxi, they’re ready to assist. The breakfast buffet was great, with plenty of options. Between breakfast and lunch, you can grab snacks, salads, panini in the Kýma Coffee Bar. Lunch and dinner are a mixture of buffet and menu options, according to the schedule. The bar is open for most of the day, for those that wish to partake. If you do, the service was outstanding. I highly recommend the spa for anyone who loves to unwind. It truly enhanced our trip.

When we checked in there was a common theme of returning guests, when we checked out we honestly understood why guests keep returning. From the moment we arrived we loved the resort, our room was amazing, as was the food, drinks and service. All staff members were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The beach is small but more than adequate for the number of guests, never had an issue getting sun loungers and the sunsets each evening were breathtaking.

We had a lovely stay at this Hotel. All the Staff are very friendly and go out of their way to please guests. Food was of a good standard and changed regularly. Would return. The Hotel is kept very clean and there was always someone polishing tables and sweeping floors.
As a silver elite Marriott member, we were very disappointed with this hotel. It really is not worthy of the Autograph collection standing, and I’m not sure how Marriott can pretend it is. On the plus side, the staff were generally lovely and helpful. Negatives however: for $1,000 a night,...
As a silver elite Marriott member, we were very disappointed with this hotel. It really is not worthy of the Autograph collection standing, and I’m not sure how Marriott can pretend it is. On the plus side, the staff were generally lovely and helpful. Negatives however: for $1,000 a night, the suite we were given, across the busy road, was terrible value for money - it was dark, austere and with a horrible view (see image) - we were offered an alternative but it wasn’t worth moving as we only stayed a night; the shower took 5 mins to get warm; the evening buffet was pretty mediocre; the pool was closed for cleaning on the one morning (peak time) that we wanted to use it; and even though we had a late checkout, the room key stopped working an hour before.

Stayed 11 nights for rest and relaxation. If you want a lively partying holiday get the bus or taxi to Bridgetown or Holetown or just stay elsewhere! Yes .. I’ve read some comments! Our Spa Room was spacious with well-equipped bathroom and powerful shower. Pool was very clean and staff regularly offered drinks and frozen fruits. Staff were best i’ve come across and I’ve travelled extensively. Food whilst not gourmet standard was nice enough with plenty of choice. Wine list not so good but cocktails great. The beach is small following storms but has plenty of sun beds and water sports and classes. Did we enjoy our stay? We needed to chill and we did helped by some Spa treatments. Most definitely we would return.
