Such a beautiful hotel, wonderful staff and a magical location. I would highly recommend this hotel. It’s a secret gem and absolutely stunning. The food was delicious and the private beach was stunning. I can’t wait to come back. One of my favourite places in the region!

This hotel has a family run feel, and their kindness and attention to detail did not disappoint. We had half board, and so enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the hotel. The food was impeccable- every evening they had a set menu with 2 choices which I felt meant that all the ingredients were fresh and the dishes made with the utmost care. The chef made beautiful food every evening. The view of the sea is unmatched; there is a little concrete deck where they put out chairs and a set of stairs for you to get in the water. The location is walking distance to Amalfi and also the villages nearby- Minori and Māori. The hotel staff would assist us in the best route to take. I would highly recommend a stay here for a couple of nights while exploring the area- the only complaint (and I must say it was very minor for us) was that the bar before dinner was somewhat limited (in that it did not open until maybe 6? As it was in the restaurant) although this was down to it being family run so I cannot complain properly here. Wonderful, caring staff and a memorable stay. Thank you!

My husband and I just returned from a 6 night stay at Villa San Michele. It was wonderful. We had a room with a terrace. We found the communication excellent- before we arrived there was prompt response to our questions. Found the staff and the family wonderful. The hotel arranged a scooter rental for us and we spent the days touring a few spots. BUT STILL -our favourite memory of the 6 days on the Amalfi coast was having breakfast in the morning... and sitting on the terrace having tea in the afternoon, or wine in the evening. We concur with many of the reviews - be prepared for stairs - ie it is not a place if you have mobility issues. My husband had a few stomach issues while there, and though there were set menu choices each night, I found they were able to provide solutions for him if the meals were not going to agree with him. We are not very adventurous when it comes to food - but we found the choices to be quite well prepared and tasty. The breakfast was large - enough for us to have some leftovers at lunch. (Which was encouraged). The family was always responsive to questions ,helping to arrange taxi, laundry service, the scooter, explaining bus/ferry schedules... and on our final day as we were leaving, Rosa sprinted to flag down a bus for us.... picking up our bags as she ran by!! We felt like family. Our only regret? It wasn't long enough.

It is hard to put in to words what a wonderful experience my husband and I had during our stay. The rooms are big, clean with spectacular views. The hotel has its own private beach area which is a huge plus considering the crowds of the amalfi coast. The location is also perfect. It is away from the craziness and the crowds of Amalfi but just a 20 min walk if you wish to enjoy the town. The places is serene and quiet. A true gem in the Amalfi coast. The hotel also has its own restaurant where breakfast and dinner was included daily. The food was fantastic with a different menu each night. What makes this place truly special is the people who run it. Nicola, Francesco, Antonio and Andrea truly made us feel like family from the moment we arrived. They were so welcoming and accommodating. They truly care about each guest. We were so sad to leave but we will definitely be back.

The views are inspiring, the homemade meals are delectable, and the hospitality is unmatched (it felt like we were staying with family). The location was very peaceful for those who want to relax and enjoy the views, but it was also a short walk to Amalfi. We are so grateful for our time here and hope to return someday.

We booked this hotel based a recommendation and had high hopes but these were completely blown out of the water. Although the rooms are nothing fancy; the views, quiet escape, gardens, water access, food, and general care and kindness from the staff was unmatched. We can’t wait to return.

The best location if you want to escape the crowds but still be able to walk places, the best hospitality, incredible food and a very cute dog to pet. The grounds are stunning with many places to enjoy the beauty. Would absolutely stay again should we be happy enough to find ourselves on the Amalfi Cpast again

Villa San Michele is a magical place! My husband and I spent 4 nights here and we just had an amazing time! The property itself is gorgeous and well taken care of! Beautiful setting with great lounging areas in their garden with the best views of the Mediterranean Sea. The best part of this hotel is that there is an area to layout and steps directly to the water. We went during the low season so we always had a seat available. The rooms are small and the shower is very very tiny. If you are more than 5'5" tall and a wide person, it could be challenging. The balcony and views though totally makes up for it! This place is ran more like a Bed & Breakfast rather than a hotel so that makes the experience very intimate. It's a family run business and everyone you come in contact with is soooo gracious and kind. Niccoli and his sons Andrea and Francesco were all so accommodating and helpful! If you get the breakfast package, just be prepared to have the same dishes so it could get a bit boring. The location for us was perfect! It's not in Amalfi where all the restaurants and shops are but it's only a 15 minute walk downhill. The SITA buses are the best way to go from town to town. We can't way to return! Grazie mille Villa San Michele!

This lovely family-run hotel is perched on a cliff between Amalfi and Ravello with beautiful vistas over the bay of Salerno. Equally impressive is the well-oiled team that operates the hotel and restaurant at the highest level of competence. Each member of the staff, from owner to cleaning lady, is friendly and light-hearted; but there is substance here too — each person has a job to do and he or she does it well. The food is excellent and the local wines are good and fairly priced. This is a real find which you’ll truly enjoy. There is a lovely private swimming area and the water was still fine in mid-October. One note of caution: there are a lot of stairs to navigate. But my wife and I are both on the wrong side of 70 and were fine if we took a stop or two along the way up.

This is one of those reviews that I am reluctant to do in case I can’t get a reservation again..it was hard enough to get the one I had. The hotel is as pretty as the photos and everyone connected with it works really hard, takes pride and wants to make your stay special. This is NOT a a place if you are physically challenged as there are steps everywhere. It is also not a place for someone who is looking for a 5 star hotel BUT it is a place for those who are looking for something special. There are some things that are imperfect (tiny bathrooms in some cases and ancient hairdryers ) but what IS perfect is the views, the swimming, the food and the incredible family and staff. I wasn’t sure how I would feed about her board after having had a poor experience in another European country - but this was a great offering and we were more than happy. We so enjoyed our sunset aperitivo, our incredible meals every night, the views and our daily swims. Once we worked out the ‘cut through’ to Amalfi (maybe a map on arrival??) walking there became easier. We walked…and walked! If you want to bus up to Ravello and the day you want to do it is Sunday…make sure you buy your tickets from the bar over the road on Saturday. One day we walked to Minori, had lunch and caught the Ferry back to Amalfi just to see the hotel from the sea. We certainly want to return and will happily recommend this hotel to friends and family.

My husband and I spent four nights here at the start of a 3+ week trip. The idea was to have a lovely place to relax and recover from a transatlantic flight. Villa San Michele was a perfect choice! Not only is the setting remarkably idyllic but the people who run it - owners, waiter, cleaning person, and security guard - were all wonderfully kind, gracious, and helpful. We found it quite relaxing to have our breakfast and dinner at the hotel and the food was very good. The photos on the hotel website accurately depict the rooms. While ours (#118) wouldn’t win any style awards, it was spacious, clean and comfortable. We were delighted to have floor to ceiling windows/door across one end of the room and a very large patio on the side. It was hard to be motivated to go and do anything! Having said that, we did visit Paestum and thought it was fabulous. We also took a full day boat tour from Amalfi to Capri and thought it was a waste of time and money.

The sunbathing terrace at the bottom is delightful, you can relax and take in the beautiful scenery of the Almalfi. We cannot wait to go back and couldn’t recommend this place highly enough. An absolutely gem of a hotel in this amazing part of the world. Thank you San Michele for a truly memorable experience.

We honeymooned here in Sept 2000 and thought this would be our regular extra special place but hard work and subsequent parenting fun somehow put a very long pause on our well intended initial plans. My husband turning 50 and his incredibly kind and generous Mom and step-dad pressed play for us almost 22 years later and here we were again and we couldn’t have been happier. Nicola his son Francisco and their super friendly, fun, kind, genuine team welcomed us personally with such warmth every morning, noon and night. We chose half board with light delicious fresh breakfasts, served with breathtaking views and insanely good coffee (from 8am-10am) usually a yogurt, fresh local mouthwatering fruit, croissants and preserves and local meats and the best mozzarella. Plus we had a 3 course dinner, ( served from 7:30-9:30pm) you can have lunch as well or instead of dinner (we had all 3 meals back in 2000) honestly the food was next level sensational. Each evening being different and with a choice of 2 starters, 2 mains and yes you guessed it 2 desserts! My husband and I couldn’t choose as all sounded so good and had one of each every night to ensure we didn’t miss a mouthful. (This was the same 22 years ago too) The first plate was always pasta with perfect sauces and the main usually one fish dish and the other meat, they choose local and traditional recipes to the area. The main comes with a vegetable side dish. A wine list is on offer but we stuck local and enjoyed a jug (1 litre) of local red each night. Our room 116B was right in the centre of the hotel (their are 12 rooms) with the most stunning big balcony which I welcomed the sun every morning on right up until around 1pm and then I enjoyed the cute and private sun deck right down on the stunningly clear Mediterranean water until just after 3pm. Please note there are a lot of steps as the hotel is built into the cliff side as most are in this area. Our shower room hands down has the best view from a shower room I have EVER SEEN! The picturesque frame was spectacular! The water was fast and furious which is perfect after the heat of the day. We took it very slow most days and adventured a little late afternoon taking the bus up to Ravello (we walked into Amalfi to ensure we got on as it is incredibly busy and although the stop is outside we didn’t think we’d get a space) another day into Minori treating ourselves to a delicious ice cream. We hired a boat another day and explored the coastline, both ways and even pausing for some snaps outside the hotel from the clear sea. We booked in advance and loved it, there are a few companies and all around the same price give or take -€20/30 so we picked it up in Amalfi at 9:30am and paid €250 and then €65 for the fuel at 5:30pm. There wasn’t an ice box on ours which actually would have been useful but we tied our wine and cooled it in the sea so all was well in our world. Our arrival travel plans didn’t quite go as smoothly and quickly as I had planned as I had decided to take the train rather than cab or bus (you have to change in Sorrento by bus making it a 2 hour 40 trip) and the so called Amalfi train station is around 45 mins away which I hadn’t appreciated or checked with the hotel (my bad) but instead we picked up a boat when my husband realised as much at Salerno were we needed to change from the train anyway. This was just a short walk to the boat but we just missed one but enjoyed a cold drink and a moment in the sun as we waited. This worked out fine for our slow arrival but on the way home the boats didn’t run early enough so Francisco kindly arranged a transfer for us costing -€120 this driver was excellent and got us to Naples in 1 hour 40 in a gorgeous air conditioned Mercedes’ 7 seater. Enjoy every second as it is the most special place to be we most definitely won’t be leaving it another 22 years!!!
