Landmark Building but outdated
Landmark building for Lake Como! You need to visit its Gardens and the waterfall for a jaw-dropping experience. The hotel itself and all the public areas need serious work and renovation in order to compete with the other options you have in Comi nowadays.

Stayed via Amex Centurion FHR, and to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. No upgrades since fully booked. No worries. Check in took too long, but the front desk was helpful. Had requested flowers in the room, not there. No worries as the bubbles were there... The good....Veranda staff and service, cuisine and the giant wine list are all brilliant, perhaps the only reason to visit. The bad...Lake Terrace bar under-staffed. Had to finally chase down the lone person serving many tables for a simple digestif. The ugly...Other than the bedsheets, the room was horrible. Old and falling apart. Dead mattress. Dead carpet. Air-conditioning not designed to handle July heat. And the bathroom was simply awful. Fixtures at par with a Motel 6. A plastic rotary shower mixer handle? Impossible to set water temperature in the slippy bathtub. Such oversight at such an "exclusive" hotel? Seasonal hotel does not mean you do not use the off-season to upgrade. So many jewels in Italy are falling apart. Sadly this is no exception. Passalaqua, GH Tremezzo, MO, and Il Sereno are all far better options.

Arriving at Villa D’Este we were warmly greeted by the entire hotel staff. Most notably, Cristiano Coppola at the Reception Desk took great care as he showed us a stunning waterfront room overlooking Lake Como on the top floor. We were exhausted after traveling overnight and Cristiano sent us up a chilled bottle of champagne and sweet treats as we celebrated our wedding anniversary. It was exactly what we needed and immensely thoughtful! We look forward to our next vacation to Lake Como! Thank you to Cristiano and the entire staff at Villa D’Este for an amazing stay!

A really magnificent resort that rivals the best in the world. The grounds alone would be worth a visit, but the service, cuisine, and ambiance make it truly unique. I was super happy with la colazione italiana - overwhelming choices and a coffee that will make you weep. The gym is pretty nice for an exceptional Italian hotel (which often aren’t very significantly appointed). The floating pool was another huge plus with the lake literally surrounding (and underneath) it. Service at the level you’d expect at a five star like this one - would recommend.

WORSE Ever Experience This happened on 11 Sep 2024 at around 15:50-16:00 at Villa D’Este lobby. My fiancé and I started our pre wedding photoshoot there, and your staff “Thomaso” came to us in a very rude manner saying that we cannot do photoshooting in wedding gown if we didn’t hold the event here. It caught us by surprise because when we emailed to your Villa about the photoshoot, they only told us the selected timeframe and only selected spot can be used but never mentioned the restriction of Wedding Gown wearing. But then we respected your rules and didn’t force to continue. Your staff “Thomaso” raised his voice (he claimed that he didn’t, but it was witnessed by our photographer, make up artist and other guests in the hotel) and say it in a disrespectful and rule manner that ***“I can request you to change your dress now” and questioned my fiancé “Did you not read the statement we asked you to sign?”*** This is extremely humiliating to a woman especially on her special date, wedding photoshoot and also my fiancé as we do not feel ourselves customer instead we feel extremely embarrassed like a rat on the street. He RUINED our date. We complain to your front desk at night and got explanation from Jasmin, your Director of Guest Experience. She has been trying to comfort us which we appreciate it and we didn’t ask for it but she gave us small discount and small gift. To be honest, for people who can afford your Villa cares more on experience more then other things. We are extremely disappointed and do not think we deserved to be treated like this and I have never been treated that “DISRESPECTFULLY”. I really think everyone should know this so no more guest to be the Victim. One more thing to add, Towel is also dirty in this Villa.

We stayed 2 nights at Villa d'Este, and the experience lived up to our high expectations. We were originally given a room that was directly over the valet, which wasn't ideal noise wise. For a minimal fee, they upgraded us to a corner lake view. The rooms were very large and comfortable. The service was impeccable, from the restaurants to housekeeping to the concierge. We also arranged for a boat tour through the hotel, and it was perfect. Our only complaint was that there was a wedding on property in the gardens of the hotel. We expected it to be loud and go into the evening, but it went beyond midnight and was exceptionally loud. Other than that, our stay was magical!

We just returned after 3 days at the property and given the properties reputation we’re shocked at how we and other clients were treated. Management has very clearly made the decision that functions at the property take a higher priority than regular guests. We checked in and were not given the room class we reserved. We were put in a very small room with a small lake view. You had to turn sideway to get out of bed to go to the bathroom. After a very long night of being subjected to loud music That more than likely did not come from the property, but very common to have parties on the lake. We reguested to be moved to a quiet garden room which is what we originally reserved. After moving the next morning we received a letter underneath our door advising guests there was a function at the property with music from 7 to 12. Has anyone stayed at a prporty charging you almost $2k per night warning guests to expect music so be prepared. We left our room for the day came back to a wedding outside our room that was outrageously loud. We were shocked, but in retrospect under. They didn’t want guests calling to complain. For the 2nd time we requested to be moved again and were told we were hearing the ceremony but that the reception was a bit farther away but music would be outdoors. They followed up with the wedding guests would be walking from the reception area to the docks at midnight to get on a boat to continue the party, but that they had security to make sure wasn’t too loud. When was the last time time wedding guests were not in a celebratory mood as they walked to next party. The front desk originally told us property was 100% booked and couldn’t be moved. After asking for the manager on duty they offered the presidential suite. Given we would be leaving early AM moving again to sleep was not good news. Then the really bad service kicked in. We advised we would be ready to move in 20 min. 30 minutes later no bellman. We called. 10-15 minutes later still nothing. We called again and were told to come down to reception desk and pick up our new key. Hard too believe like a motel 6. I suggested they have the bellman bring a key and then a member of front desk showed up at our door, gave us a key. I asked about bellman and they advised would be another 10/15 minutes. If you can believe it, we moved our own luggage with the help of the front desk clerk. You get the idea. Hotel management placed the function a priority. I ran into manager in duty after we moved she offered to buy us a drink. I advised they should comp, In the morning they charged us for the room and after we advised we would dispute the charge they relented and comped the room. You get the idea. Combine this with very expensive mediocre food the moral of the story is if you really want to stay at this property make sure when your reservation is made the hotel doesn’t have a function. What property advises clients to expect music till midnight? One that has received many complaints from guests! Today got an email from assistant manager of rooms suggesting that sorry for quality of sleep! Never again, many good properties on the lake. Stay at a property that cares about guests. I have pictures of letter and video of wedding. Not pleasant experience.

Left our car at the valet which was expensive and was given back to us with a huge scratch/dent at the back side of the car which now cost a fortune to repair. No one at the hotel bothered to tell us, so we only realised when arriving at our next destination, very very poor. Service was not up to scratch for a 5 star hotel in general but this left a very sour taste. Very disappointing and won’t be recommending this hotel.

A gorgeous historical property that makes you feel like a movie star. Expansive and grandiose nestled in my favorite stretch of Lake Como. A world class team that caters to every need. Look forward to return and take more time to enjoy their perfect gardens and play tennis. Our meals in the terrace and dinner in their formal restaurant were memorables. An afternoon boat ride in the lake is a must and their perfect little gift shop deserves a stop as well. If you enjoy driving this part of Lake Como is probably my favorite part to drive.

This is hands down my favorite place in the world. I've stayed at luxury hotels in many cities, and the magic of Villa d'Este is unmatched. Most times I don't like to repeat destinations for fear of the 2nd experience paling in comparison to the first...I can happily report that our 2nd time at Villa d'Este was just as special as the first time around. The beautiful gardens, the excellent service, the stunning lake, activities/gym, gorgeous setting for cocktails, several choices for dinner, the diverse and opulently dressed clientele, the history of the place...it is all magic. You feel like you're transported back in time. I also want to give a special shout out to Jessica at the spa. Probably the best swedish massage I've had in my life. Also the concierge was super helpful both while we were on campus and leading up to our trip. I can't wait to go back here again and again, hopefully next time with our kids. I don't want to bore you with a wordy review...but my advice is if you are considering anywhere else on Lake Como...don't...you've found it right here...

If you have ever read a bad review about Villa d’Este, just ignore it. From the moment we entered through the gates we were treated with utmost kindness and respect by all the staff we encountered. Nothing was too much and their professionalism is to be commended. Our suite overlooking the lake was wonderful, we felt truly spoilt. My husband mentioned his interest in cars during check in and the young man who was dealing with us made sure that the book on the Concourse of Elegance that had recently taken place was taken to our room. Our evening meal at the Grill was excellent as was breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our comfortable and relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings. Due to time constraints, as we were on a month long trip around Western Europe, we could not stay longer but we will be back for a longer length of time to fully enjoy all that this wonderful hotel has to offer.

My wedding band was stolen from our room during the first few hours of our stay when we went downstairs for dinner. I complained and every staff member in the hotel came to know about my issue. Fortunately it was planted in the room the morning of my departure. Unfortunately they stole two other pieces (one being a fake 6 carat engagement ring) and the other being my wife’s Van Cleef gold bangle bracelet, which was way more valuable than the wedding band. This is a very dangerous hotel and my family did get sort of a weird gut feeling in the hallways of the guest rooms. There is a lot of movement going on by the guest rooms and very sketchy employees. People were always coming into the room for some reason and they know when you are not in your room. We noticed lights which indicated to the staff if we were there or not. We are repeat guests of some of the world’s best hotels. The staff was snooty but the stealing is unacceptable and I really discourage anyone from ever staying at this hotel. I will make sure so many people we know coming from the United States learn about the experience we had there.
