The hotel, I should say, was also fantastic. I've not stayed in many better, and I've been lucky enough down the years to have stayed in some world leading hotels. It's a big site, but everything was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was excellent (including gluten free options) and we ate at one of the restaurants on many evenings - also superb. I can't recommend Vilalara highly enough.

We were expecting a 5 star hotel and this was not a 5 star, maybe 3.5. The property is lovely, however our room was large with pure white walls, very institutional. No full length mirror or makeup mirror. Also a problem with hot water, at one point I had to take a cold shower. The staff resolved the issue in a few hours. The food was good, but nothing to rave about. We had to ask for our linens to be changed and get the floor swept. Not ready for prime time.

Our overall experience was excellent and we loved the quiet and pristine environment of the resort throughout our stay. For starters, we arranged transfers to and from hotel, our transfers went well both ways and our drivers were friendly and attentive if we requested they slow down. I suffer from motion sickness and quick lane changing can make for an unpleasant ride. Once communicated we had a good experience.
Upon arrival at hotel we were greeted and someone helped with our luggage. Check in was straightforward and we received a map and brief overview prior to a brief golf cart tour which took us and our luggage to the room. It was helpful as the property is large and we like getting a lay of the land.
Upon entering our room, we were pleased with the light bright colors, and cleanliness. We were provided welcome sparkling wine and some pastries which was needed, as travel is stressful and we hadn’t had much to eat or drink since leaving Porto and had flight delays and short connections. My husband hates clutter and he loved that the room had furnishings but not too much as some 5 star hotels do. (He commented after our 3 week stay throughout Portugal and the Canary Islands that this was by far his favorite hotel of our vacation). The balcony was a great size and allowed us to sit and enjoy the sunrise or nespresso early before breakfast each day. We were in room 9404 and the view was panoramic of the sea. We tend to always book sea view and as close to the water as we can get when in vacation as the sounds are relaxing. The room view did not disappoint. Room amenities were also excellent, and we were provided extra coffee pods when requested as well as having some items added to our minibar in case we wanted them throughout our stay. The bathroom was good sized.
Our only complaint was our shower water pressure was very poor, like nonexistent. For someone with very long hair it took a long time to wash out shampoo and sand from a day at the beach. Hopefully that can be fixed. Additionally there were few outlets in the room and took some maneuvering on our part to get all our items charged in a rotation. Perhaps one suggestion would be that if an upgrade happens a few more outlets would make the stay more comfortable for some. That aspect didn’t detract from our stay but I mention it as folks with more items may struggle.
The service we received from our room attendants was excellent. We also throughly enjoyed the breakfast, and interaction with breakfast staff. As a vegetarian there were plenty of wonderful options and the fruits, juices and egg station were all wonderful.
We weren’t pool people so can’t comment on that, but we did enjoy the beach and always
look to stay with hotels that have direct beach
access given our preference. The hotel did not disappoint in this regard.
For food and drink options, we had dinner at two restaurants on site, the trattoria and sadly can’t recall the name of the other. Our experience at the unnamed location was excellent and a good first night of our trip. However our experience at the trattoria wasn’t great. While the food was just ok, our service was not attentive and we struggled when ready to leave to get our bill settled. We had other Italian food in nearby towns that was far better with more attentive service than this and value for money just wasn’t there.
We loved the bar service and were appreciative of the wine recommendations from the staff for an after dinner take to room selection.
We didn’t experience one unfriendly person on the staff and everyone was helpful. Overall, this is an excellent hotel and likely the favorite of our vacation. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this location for our friends wanting to visit the Algarve.

We had a garden room but it was really not a big deal to walk down to restaurants and the pool. (I didn't venture further with more steps to the beach!) the food was really great actually. From breakfast to dinner at the Italian place and the main place, it was top notch food. They even surprised my husband with cake and champagne in the room for his bday, ha. Pool was great and although you wanted to get down to get a chair after breakfast like by 10 at least I did find chairs at the pool every day. Service was very friendly and hospitable.

I have stayed at Vilalara three times so far - in 2002, 2012 and this week - and the more I experience the unique location, beauty, scents, activities and peacefulness of this hotel, the more I feel like coming back.
The accommodation is superb: rooms are large, nicely furnished and all feature a large balcony with a sun terrace or sofa.
The three swimming pools accomodate any preference you may have, and the blond sandy beach is an irresistible invitation to enjoy (relatively) warm waters of the ocean.
Three restaurants with distinctive menus allow to taste differents styles while conveniently keeping in the hotel. A large choice of restaurants is available at short distance - to indulge yourself with grilled sardines up to most exclusive gourmet’selection.
Last but not least, the staff will bend over backwards to help you. The concierges are on hand 24 hours a day to advise you, book your restaurants, tennis or paddle, and suggest land and water excursions that will delight you.
In short, this is an exceptional place for a delightfully exclusive stay!

We went for a week long "Longevity" stay (that is with a programme from the Spa accompanied by a "low and tasty" diet).
We loved it. We were a little worried in going there during the height of school holidays (esp as read a few (very much minority) reviews here as to noise of children and busyness, etc), but found it very relaxing.
The resort seemed full but easily soaked up the number of people. We never had any problem getting loungers at pool or at beach.
The spa was gorgeous and we made the most of daily activities like Yoga, Pilates and so on as well as the treatments we booked.
Food was generally very good - esp at the pool side bar near the spa where we had a light lunch every day (part of our package).
The dinner option we had pre-booked was quite poor, though, very little choice for the "low and tasty" options and really quite uninspiring. It didn't take long though for us to go off-piste and join the main menu at the main grill restaurant - the staff were very friendly and accommodating - and had fine Claims and grilled fish for most of the week (still trying to keep healthy). By the way: most people don't get this "diet" menu and looking around the rest of the food did seem very delicious indeed.
The beach was gorgeous and relaxing. The gardens were lush and really very stunning.
The pools were lovely too, very clean. (Note they say they have "5" pools but really its only 3 - three of them are just next to each other with a small dividing wall - two tiny pools for children next to the bigger (proper swim) one) - so really a little cheeky to say they have 5!)
I'd very much go back and already planning a further trip.

What a beautiful resort! 5 stars all around. Everywhere you look was gorgeous- the grounds, the pools, and of course the views. The staff were also exceptionally nice. The restaurants were great. We had just a tremendous experience and I would be very happy to go back. We didn’t love our particular room as much as the resort (it was a junior suite emotion), because it was downstairs with very little natural light. We asked to switch rooms but they were entirely full. We still had a fabulous time at the resort, but I would recommend asking for a room upstairs with a view.

This is a dream resort where everything is perfection. The rooms are large and comfortable with the nice sized balconies with a table for two people and a very comfortable couch. The bathrooms are well appointed with toiletries and an excellent hairdryer. The layout of the bathrooms makes for great storage of all of your toiletries as well. The resort has multiple restaurants, all of which have excellent food. The pools were abundant and very clean. The beach is a few steps down from the main area of the hotel and is set up with towels, beach chairs, and umbrellas for the guests. The view from the beach is stunning. There are some excellent local eateries within walking distance or a very short eight minute Uber ride, costing probably no more than five euros. We loved staying here and we would highly recommend this resort to anyone and everyone.
