I understand they are completely closing for remodeling over the summer through Dec 1st. It is in need of an update. The biggest issue is that this is not a ski in ski out hotel. You have to go down a set of stairs outside and walk 200 yards to where they store your skis. Your choice is to walk in your ski boots, hope to get a locker for you shoes or leave the shoes on top of the lockers and hope they are there when you return.

So many good things about this property. My hope is that after the upcoming renovations (April-November 2024), things will improve.
The Good:
Convenience to the gondolas - Just a quick walk across the street.
Ski storage at the base - Be sure to tip the staff. They are all friendy.
Starbucks on the first floor.
Valet staff were all great, if we could track them down.
Free shuttling to town - also a bad.
Note that we did not utilize the spa (one rough robe in the room), the pool, the fitness center, the lobby restaurant, but it was great that they were all here in the same building.
Our room had a nice view and we could see the gondola lines.
The Bad:
At check-in, we weren’t really given much information about resort amenities. There was a hard-to-find postcard in the room with a QR code that gave a little more information but it would have been nice to have been given “pointers” when we arrived. Desk staff were nice but probably hadn’t been given much instruction.
Coffee machine in the room was ok. No instructions but we kind of figured out how to make bad coffee. There were a couple of packets of sugar, non-dairy creamer, stir sticks. As much as I hate Keurigs, it would have been nice to have one in the room.
I blame this on being understaffed but whenever we tried to call the valet desk to get our car, the phone just rang and rang. The two or three people on duty were always running cars to and from or delivering bags to rooms. It would be nice if the phones rolled to someone at the front desk.
Cleaning services - The one day we took the door sign off to get the room cleaned up, we returned to see that the bed was made, the trash was emptied, and the well-worn towels were replaced. (Maybe they are waiting until after the above mentioned renovation to turn the towels into rags.) The damp floor mat was left behind and the sinks were not cleaned at all - maybe that isn’t part of the service? I only noticed because I remember accidentally dropping some lotion on my way out and it was still in the sink when I returned.
Bathrooms were motel-quality. Shower heads could use some updating. No amenities in case you forgot something.
While it was nice to have a mini-kitchen 36-inches away from the bed (NOT), we always had to fight over the one fork if we did have anything to eat in the room.
Our room could have used better lighting for reading in bed but maybe nobody else cares.
While it is great that the resort offers a free shuttle service, the app is not optimal. Getting into town was easier because we could just wait in the lobby. Getting a ride back, was not as dependable and next time we will use Uber/Lyft. One night at 7:14 pm, I requested a ride on the shuttle and was notified that it would be a 20 minute wait. When it got closer to 8 minutes, we walked to the pick up stop in case the app hadn’t refreshed and the driver was closer. We saw one van drive toward the resort but figured we would be on the next one. The next van drove by us and waved and came back 10 minutes later. It took closer to 40 minutes to be picked up. We realize that it is a free service but I would warn people that if you are planning to come back after dinner and it is freezing outside, just use a ride service app.
It seems that this is the kind of place that multiple families will come to and let the kids sleep in their own rooms. A couple nights there were a lot of pre-teens running back and forth to rooms, slamming doors, screaming & giggling. I didn’t say anything because they were having fun but I don’t think any parents were around. Maybe the parents were out having fun, too. This is the type of behavior I have seen when traveling with my kids to soccer tournaments and staying at Hilton Garden Inns or Marriott Residence Inns. After a long day of skiing, I would prefer quieter surroundings so we probably won’t be back.
The Ugly:
Nothing too ugly. There are some tweaks to be worked out and I assume a lot has to do with seasonal staff and lack of training. The resort has a lot of potential but it will take some work.

Stayed there last weekend. Total horror show. In no particular order we found:
- No cleaning of rooms during the stay. Just a ‘turn-up’ of such poor quality that we had to make the bed ourselves
- Towel with skid / brown marks
- Employee walking fully dressed with dirty shoes into the sauna, laying down on the bench saying she’s gonna ‘have a 5 minutes nap’ (in clothes and shoes)
- No laundry service (only a coin operated laundromat like back in the student days, great at $400/night).
That’s for the ‘hygiene’ part. Let me tell you that the staff at reception (a 20 something who pretended to be the ‘manager’, probably to amuse himself or placate me) did not have the slightest care in the world / was in any way surprised by the above. Probably their standard guest experience?
You will also be pleased to hear this hotel features:
- no mini bar
- a pool club that is straight out of the 90s
- a 2/10 breakfast
- no elevator from entrance to room floors (was great to carry 70lbs of luggage by myself up that first flight of stairs when we arrived after a 10 hour drive).
Much nicer hotels in steamboat. Leave this one to the students or youngsters who may be less shocked by the (lack of) hygiene standards.

We have stayed at this location before, but sadly this visit was concerning. It is never great to feel you are staying in a dirty room, but we did let the front desk know our glasses in the bathroom had toothpaste on them. They did not offer to replace. They just said they will let those concerning this know. Of course, I let it go and we didn’t really plan to use any glasses after this anyways. They also had a hot tub out of order and the place is too large for just one. It was very crowded. This was just a super disappointing trip and a lot of money for the quality.

This hotel looked great on the internet so we booked for two nights. The hallway leading to our room smelled extremely bad like a basketball gym. Room was nice EXCEPT for the uncomfortable bed and huge bulky pillows. Ok that’s semi tolerable but the shower was the worst i have ever experienced anywhere in the world except Philippines where you bathe from a bucket. Close to zero water pressure and tiny shower.
The cabin restaurant has a very limited menu so didn’t eat there. The pool and large jacuzzi are very nice so that’s a plus. The best part of this hotel is the parking. This place can’t even compete with Motel 6.

We used to love the Grand but things have gone downhill. Check in service is hit or miss; hopefully you get one of the nicer and engaged staff who pays enough attention. If so, perhaps you will avoid getting an unprogrammed parking pass like we did. Perhaps you’ll also get info on the hotel facilities, but I’m not holding my breath for you. The rooms are nice and I would say that’s the only reason I’ve given two stars. At the pool, get ready to fight for lounge chairs and resources, and bring AirPods so you don’t have to listen to someone’s personal speaker blaring country music. Who doesn’t love a good three hours of country hoedown songs?! Or guests who bring their own booze and live it up with blatant disregard for others?! Honestly, this hotel has lost his luster. We had a better experience at the Residence Inn, for crying out loud.

The Grand and Snow - perfect
This is the second time we have stayed at the fabulous Grand. No complaints - large room with kitchen and plenty of space, storage and rental facilities, restaurant, and SNOW

Just got back from a 3 night stay. I’ll admit that based on a few recent reviews I was a bit nervous. The Grand is normally double the cost of where I normally stay but I found a deal and wanted to try it out seeing as how the location is walk to lift opposed to a 2 mile shuttle ride. Aside from staff not being very informative at the initial check and having to ask questions to get information. The staff was friendly and helpful. Everything from the lobby, hallways, pool, gym area and our room and bathroom were very clean and inviting. The location is fantastic and the beer and liquor store below came in handy. There are many restaurants in stores within walking distance that I never even knew of. Their shuttle came in handy and the stop for the free shuttle is right out front. The only gripe we had was that we went to the cabin for dinner and there was a reduced menu and nowhere online did they mention that. We ended up leaving. The Grand has a lodge/cabin feel which is what most ski resort lodging has. This is the only reason I can imagine the “dated” comments in other reviews. I definitely hope to find similar deals in the future because we will be back!

Maybe we are spoiled in other ski towns - but if this is the quality of hotels in Steamboat Springs, then I suggest heading elsewhere. It's an expensive hotel, but is like a Motel 8. It's a bit run down (lots of broken items in our room, stained carpet, stained bedspread), not really much going for the room. Moreover, from the moment of arrival it was pretty clear that this place wasn't great. Had to really find help with valet and reception. When I called to try to PAY for a better room, it was an ordeal. Room was really hot, the fireplace, despite on a timer, never shut off, no cups for water in the room... sounds basic, right? Bed is old and furniture is falling apart. As soon as we saw the room, we tried to get a different one - tried to upgrade - no luck. Then tried searching for a better hotel, but I think this is the norm for Steamboat. My recommendation... pay a bit more and go to Aspen or Telluride. If you go to Steamboat, maybe rent a house.

This is the best hotel room we have ever stayed in. The room was very clean and very large. It had a full kitchen and a fire place. The staff was friendly and the food in the restaurant was delicious.
