The Phoenician never disappoints. The staff is always friendly and the grounds are clean and well manicured . We’ve stayed here about 7 times so I knew what I was in store. The rooms are a bit dated and could use a little refresh as well as the lobby . But the decor goes with clean serene aspect of being a desert hotel . No fuss . The accommodations are everything you could ask for. The golf course is beautiful ( I don’t golf but it looks fabulous ). The spa is top notch - a bit pricey for a massage but it was worth it . The independent facility it is designed and executed with calm and grace . The pools are a plenty . However if you are a lap swimmer ( which I am ) you will need to go off grounds . Maybe they could make one a lap pool ? The gym is awesome - great equipment and weights . If you are a hiker ( which I am ) - Camel back mountain is .35 miles from the grounds . Bring water We ate at the golf club for dinner - the food was classic bar food but good . Less expensive than the main dining area . I did go back for lunch one day by myself - and I loved the crab roll . The wonderful bartender recommended it for me . She and two hostesses were so nice and friendly to me sitting by myself . Very welcoming to a single woman eating by herself .

I absolutely suggest you stay at one of Scottsdale’s many other resorts. This place is absolutely awful. I’m still on property, generally they run a shotty three star Marriot service level. rooms were not ready on time, they promised they would call or text when they were, they never texted. they couldn’t get me a reservation to the restaurant here even though I’m a guest, however, when we saw the restaurant half the tables were open at the time we wanted. I tried to call the front desk four different times from my room, nobody ever picks up. The original reservation was supposed to be at 4 PM check out which I get through Amex, they forgot to put that on there. bellman were supposed to take our luggage for four hours and left it out the entire time with absolutely nobody guarding it, and it was only just luck that nobody stole the contents. Hopefully you get the idea. This is not someplace you want to stay, especially if you’re spending more than $1000 a night. The real kicker, the front desk wouldn’t even give me the email address of the GM. They said he was too important and it had to go through his assistant. I’ve stayed at fine hotels around the world, that’s a first. But it’s emblematic of why this place runs so poorly. It’s a shame. It’s a beautiful property, but terribly managed.

This has been one of the most historic and expensive hotels in the entire Phoenix area. It’s still extremely expensive, but it’s not living up to it’s reputation at all. My wife and I decided to have a Staycation at the Phoenician Hotel for Valentine’s Day. We stay at Marriott properties numerous times a month and have been Titanium Elite members for a long time. We had booked a King Bed Casita for the night, the charge for that room for one night was approximately $1,100 before taxes and the $50 RESORT FEE! I called the hotel a couple days in advance requesting an upgrade to hopefully enjoy a special night with my wife. Marriott’s are normally wonderful about upgrading their members, especially if you have a high status like I have. I was told to call in again the morning of check in to request again a nice upgrade. Each time I called in, I talked to wonderful employees, Cole was very helpful and tried extremely hard to get a nice upgrade for us. He asked me to follow up the next morning (check in day) to confirm getting the upgrade. I called in again, and this time I talked Emily, she was professional and very willing to help. She thought she had a nice upgrade locked in. Unfortunately, she had to call me back to tell me the upgrade disappeared. She was extremely apologetic, it was okay because I knew she really tried for me. That was the best part of the experience. When we did check in, we realized that they basically gave us the original Casita that we booked without much of an upgrade (maybe a better view). The Casita they gave us was extremely dated, I’ve seen better furniture (and in far better condition) at a Super 8 hotel. The room was so disappointing, especially for a room that was over $1,000 a night. The photos showed that the room at least had a couch in it. It didn’t, it had an old arm chair that was terrible. It also in the photos a double sink in the bathroom, there wasn’t. It was actually a pretty small outdated bathroom. We called down to the front desk three times over a three hour period to have a few wine and champagne glasses delivered to the room. When and if their services did answer the phone I had to explain that we were getting very disappointed that we hadn’t received them. We decided to try the pool for a while and they eventually showed up. When we up to the Thirsty Camel for some drinks and appetizers, it took forever for anyone to wait on us. They kept going to other tables where people were just sitting down. It was embarrassing that we finally had to ask someone to wait on us. The drinks were $17 to $19 each. This hotel has become extremely outdated. Not to mention they charge a $50 Resort Fee!! For what??? This was not a special place to spend Valentine’s Day whatsoever. REALLY A DISAPPOINTMENT in so many ways.

The Phoenician in Arizona was a massive disappointment. Despite my partner’s Marriott Gold Elite status, a promised room upgrade was revoked, and the front desk’s dismissive response added insult to injury. Room service failed us twice, never delivering a simple knife and bowl for my service animal, despite the resort claiming to be pet-friendly. Dinner options were limited to the J&G Steakhouse, where the manager, Mike, behaved aggressively and unprofessionally. He physically grabbed my shoulder, verbally berated us, and questioned my service animal in a condescending manner. Although he eventually backed down, his hostility ruined our evening. Staff at the bar apologized, but the damage was done. The night manager’s offer of two glasses of wine was insulting, and no meaningful resolution was provided. Mike’s behavior was unacceptable, and it’s shocking that this has reportedly happened before. For a resort that claims 5-star status, the experience was appalling. Avoid at all costs.

This was one of the most disappointing resorts we have ever visited. My husband had planned a big surprise for my 60th b-day going to a warm sunny place in November to enjoy the beautiful pools this hotel offered. Upon arrival we encountered very persistent valet attendants. Without checking in they insisted on taking our suitcases from our car and holding them until we checked in. After standing in a very long line to check in because there was only one attendant available and the line was out the door, I took a walk only find that the entire main pool was under major construction. Something that was not mentioned prior to reservation made or at check in. After check-in we were told about the two pools available, however, the lower pool was off limits due to a convention. So, we really only had use to the smallest pool on the grounds. We then had to wait for our car to load it back up to head to the other end where the casitas are located. We reserved a casita, a little more exclusive and private. Once we got settled in, we realized right outside our door they were setting up for the convention dinner, no privacy at all. The casitas are very outdated, not very clean, mattress needs to be replaced and the tiny shower was covered in mold (see photos). We headed to the hot tubs that we were told would be available. Currently it is a maze of construction to get through only to find one of the hot-tub is off limits and the other had warm water with no jets. The next morning, we requested a room change, we were moved to the main building. The rooms are much more spacious and updated and all though it has a large bathroom the shower is still very small. We had a very nice balcony that would normally oversee the main pool. If you like quiet, this is not the spot. They have their private events there every night. At the time we were there you either could hear the party and music or the construction noise. We asked what options they could offer us as the front desk was also not aware about their hot tubs off limits. We were offered a one- day pass to the spa for the next day. We decided to give the spa a try. Apparently, something they don’t normally offer. Upon arrival, the spa manager was already aware we were coming and was very gracious as he proceeds to let us know there was an electrical problem on the men’s side and the steam room was not working. The spaces are separated for men and women so we would not be able to spend our time together. We skipped the spa. On this second day when returned from being out all day to a room that had not been serviced all day. We called to get it cleaned and were told they would send someone. The evening housekeeper that does the turndown showed up, was very apologetic for the morning staff but could only get trash and send someone else. After waiting for 45 minutes a lady showed up with towels and a lack of desire to clean anything. If you are a golfer, the course is beautiful and the gym was very nice surrounded by glass with views of the grounds. Overall, this hotel was very disappointing and for the cost I would choose something newer and with better service.

Luxury experience, down to earth unobtrusive staff, extremely clean, comfortable rooms and exemplary adults only pool with best poolside food I’ve ever tasted. Ample walking and jogging trails and 0.5 mile to Cholla trailhead on Camelback Mtn.
Excellent hotel. Great pool area...one for adults also. Right at the base of Camelback Mt. if you want hike it. Food was amazing and the 24 hour gym was most excellent for someone on East coast morning time. There are lots of golf locations nearby
Not that special any more.

We have visited The Phoenician many times over the last 25+ years. It is still a great place to stay but seems to have regressed since the Mariott takeover. Under the Starwood banner it was always top notch with lots of nice little touches which enhanced your stay. Now it's more run of the mill luxury hotel with nothing in particular to reccomend it, considering the rates they charge. Certainly not worth the money they demand any longer. We will probably return as it has been our home in Scottdsale for so many years, just not as good as it was.

My wife and I stayed here in room 6054 (a "1 King Bed, Superior Guest Room") for two nights in September 2024. Rating: 8/10 Positives: • Spectacular Dining: The dining options here were truly outstanding. From steaks under the city lights at J & G Steakhouse, to chimichurri breakfast potatoes at Mowry & Cotton, afternoon tea at Thirsty Camel, and pub grub at The Phoenician Tavern, this hotel boasts an impressive array of culinary experiences. I rated each of these restaurants a solid five stars. • Inviting Pool Areas: The resort offers several inviting pools and outdoor lounge areas, all complemented by excellent poolside service and equally impressive cocktails. • Reasonable Room Rates: Although room rates at this resort can sometimes be steep, we enjoyed very reasonable prices for a hotel of this caliber during our September stay. Of course, this did come with triple-digit heat at the pool, but it was a fair trade-off! • On-Site Convenience: The variety of on-site stores for treats, coffee, and sundries meant that we had everything we needed without ever having to leave the resort. This added to the sense of luxury and convenience throughout our stay. Negatives: • Uncomfortable Sleep: Unfortunately, we didn’t sleep well. The bed was worn, uneven, and quite uncomfortable. To make matters worse, the front desk confirmed that the hotel uses motion sensors to throttle the air conditioning when it detects no movement in the room. The real-world implication is that the air conditioning shuts off at night while guests are asleep—precisely when it’s most needed. It’s baffling that a 5-star resort would use such a flawed system that disrupts guest sleep. For me, no amount of dazzling amenities can make up for a bad night’s rest. • Chromecast Issues: On our first night, we struggled for half an hour to get the TV’s advertised Chromecast feature to work, only to give up and resort to streaming on our own iPad propped up on the bed. The next day, the front desk informed us that Chromecast was currently non-operational across the entire resort and offered a $100 credit for the inconvenience. While the gesture was appreciated, this level of technical oversight was frustrating. • Inconvenient Late Checkout Process: As a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite member, I was granted a much-appreciated 2pm late checkout. However, I was told that our existing keys would stop working at 11am, requiring me to visit the front desk for new keys. When I went to do so, I had to wait in line for 20 minutes with people checking in, just to get access to my own room. This inefficient process overshadowed the benefit of the late checkout and left a negative impression. • Bland Room Décor: The room’s gray decor felt bland and uninviting, lacking the warmth and luxury you would expect from a 5-star resort. A design refresh would go a long way in making the rooms feel more comfortable and welcoming.

I wish I could give at a zero. One of the worst hotel experiences ever. 1). Arrived late at night after a long flight. Front desk told us our casita was in Building M, and gave me a map. Which was almost worthless in the dark. Saw some buildings, but no signs except for parking lots for other buildings. Finally someone trimming the hedges took us to the right place. “This is building M.” I asked, “ How can you tell? “ “it’s on the sign.” “What sign?” “On the building,” and pointed about 25 feet up. 2). Parked the car. Discovered that casita was on second floor, 10-15 steps. No elevator. No notice from hotel that there were stairs. We are a couple in our 70s, one of us with multiple sclerosis. 3). Nondescript room at best. Worn carpet, mediocre furniture, and a full length mirror, which rested on the floor, and leaned up against the wall at an angle. 4) The second night turned rainy and cold. Which is not the fault of the hotel, but the heating system must have been imported from a tenement in New York. Wheezing, banging and lots of other noises that came and went through the night. I got just a few hours of sleep. 5). Complained to front desk. Very helpful clerk, who disappeared for awhile to talk to her supervisor. Who turned out to be too busy to help. I paid for the room with Bonvoy points, and clerk thought that a refund of points would be a reasonable result. I agreed. But I haven’t heard anymore from Marriott. 6). I couldn’t understand why TripAdvisor rated this at five stars, yet fairly recent reviews were bad. Now I know why. MARRIOTT, FIX THIS.
