Perfect place to have a lovely weekend away. We stayed in the club king room which was spacious and comfortable. The bed was really comfy and had a great night sleep both nights. Very quiet once in the room. The staff were very kind and had done some extra special touches for our anniversary which was thoughtful. Great that there is a spa there and very much enjoyed our treatments. Really glad we stayed - had a great time and could not fault the place.

Im sorry I am genuinely the most easy going person… but this has to be said. I paid for the Montcalm club king which was one of the more expensive rooms. I was promised a city view. But given a view looking at the hotel rooms opposite with a dirty roof below (room 230). We faced a couple of issues.. we went down to the ‘spa’ which is literally about the same size as a bedroom and seemed to be full of couples who couldn’t keep their hands off each other which turned it into a bit of an uncomfortable environment. Also our lights would not work in our room and we was locked out. So I went to reception and I was told to make sure I pushed my door hard and to take the card out of the electric holder and reset it (something that clearly happens often). I went back to the room and I ended up having to scan my card and KICK my door at the same time so it would open. We stay in many 5/4 star hotels and I can honestly say this was NO WHERE near a 5 star experience… so much potential yet and severe lack of care.. if I was a 5 star hotel and a customer couldn’t get in their rooms and the electric doesn’t work it would be a room swap… but somehow we were the problem. It’s embarrassing and I can bet my life on the fact the next review this place has it will lose a couple of stars. Absolute shambles and I would appreciate some sort of response from the highest people possible… but I won’t hold my breath. I am only doing this review for now but I have means to repost this on several platforms. Simply not good enough. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Had an incredible experience at the Montcalm Hotel. The staff was outstanding, particularly a member named Otilia who went above and beyond to assist us. We had an issue with our room, as we had booked a suite but were initially assigned a standard room. However, the staff handled the situation promptly and efficiently, moving us to the correct room and even offering complimentary gifts for the inconvenience. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff was always friendly. The spa area was impeccably clean. Overall, my stay was fantastic, and I would highly recommend the hotel and certainly visit again.

Sorry, it's just not 5 star. No way.
'Computer says no attitude' doesn't happen in a 5 star.
It's a convenient place for us to stay, but will be going elsewhere going forward.

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel it's important to share my experience after what was meant to be a special night at The Montcalm Royal London House ended up being deeply disappointing.
I spent a significant amount of money expecting a premium experience to celebrate my partner’s birthday. Instead, we arrived to find the room in an unacceptable state—there was a cigarette butt left behind, the carpet was dirty, surfaces were dusty, and there was hair on the seating. For a hotel of this standard, this level of cleanliness is shocking.
I raised the issues with the Duty Manager, Pamela Pandey, who acknowledged the situation and offered a partial refund along with a discounted stay in the future. While I appreciated her response at the time, she has since failed to follow through on the agreement, and my follow-up emails have been ignored.
This experience has left me incredibly disappointed—especially as I had initially been considering this venue for an upcoming corporate event in London. Based on how poorly this has been handled, I will be looking elsewhere.
I expected far better from a hotel with this reputation, both in terms of room standards and customer service.

Stayed for two nights given a significant birthday. Had a wonderful time in this lovely hotel and was so well looked after by every member of staff. Service was excellent and really made our stay. Location of the hotel really worked well for us. Highly recommended.

Me and my wife booked one night (tonight) and despite a promising start, (we received notification to say we were ‘guest of the day’ and had been upgraded) things only went down from there.
Firstly the cleanliness was not good, particularly in the bathroom where the doors looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in months, covered in thick dust and hair.
Secondly, after a long day we turned the tv on to relax, but none of the channels worked at all. We tried everything including switching on and off at the plug but nothing worked.
I then called down to get assistance but after 30mins on the phone I still couldn’t get through. At this point I’d just showered and was tired so really didn’t want to go down and start arguing in reception, so we left it.
Thirdly, despite advertising that they have air conditioning, there is a small vent in the room but no room controls! So we were not able to turn on/off up or down or change the temperature at all, definitely not something you’d expect in a 5* hotel, it was £300 for the basic room! We ended up having a restless night as we were too hot to sleep.
Overall, we were really excited for our stay but it was not as expected and not 5*

My partner and I booked the Montcalm London house in March for a 1 night stay as a special night away and an event with friends. We've both stayed In many high end hotels across the world due to work and the reviews for this hotel were fantastic.
Unfortunately we didn't have the 5 star experience the hotel promotes. I had booked a club double room with a city view.
When we arrived at the reception, we were told breakfast wasn't included even though I had booked for both of us to have it. So this put us on the back foot from the start. We weren't offered a welcome drink on arrival when the couple next to us were and we seemed to be blanked completely.
When we went up to the room on 5th floor and we entered the room and were met with a view overlooking the NCP car park, which didn't seem a great city view as advertised. Half of the plug sockets in the room didn't work, let alone look safe to use as a couple were hanging out of the wall. The bathroom looked like the cleaner hadn't touched it in months, with the floor being marked and outright dirty and the cleniness of what one would expect from a 2 star hotel. Not for the price we paid for this 5 star hotel.
My partner and I never complain and are very tolerant but on this occasion it simply wasn't good enough so we decided to head down to reception to complain. The gentleman that was helping guests in the lobby came over and was very polite and apologetic. We showed him photos we had taken and even he agreed it wasn't up to standard and went to speak to the manager to resolve the issue. At this point we were then offered a welcome drink and taken seriously. The gentleman came back after some time and informed us we could try another room but the hotel was very busy so we agreed for him to take us to it. It was back on the 5th floor and the room was next to the one we had booked. We went in and the room was in the same if not worse state than the one we had just been in. The employee that took us to the room even agreed that it was in a poor state so we all headed back down to reception, where he spoke to the manager once again and they stated we could check out now with a full refund as they couldn't accommodate us any further.
My partner and I were absolutely gutted we had to now find a new hotel to stay on a busy Friday night and consequently missed most of the event at the O2 so decided to pack it all in and head home.
We were informed the refund would arrive in 10 days and so far it's been over 3 weeks with absolutely nothing. I even emailed the hotel and hotel chain with a complaint and unfortunately they have never acknowledged it. I've phoned the hotel directly, to be told the manager would call me back but they never have.
We're not people to complain about things but this completely ruined our special weekend away and we accept things happen but unfortunately this warranted a 1 star review and a heads up to anyone staying at this hotel of the service you'll receive if things don't quite go to plan.

Stayed at Montcalm London House and was left disappointed. The rooms are quite old and don’t reflect the price tag at all. WiFi didn’t work the entire stay, which was frustrating.
A staff member named Sahil at reception claimed he had upgraded our room, but it was exactly what we booked — no difference whatsoever. Communication from the staff was also very inconsistent. At first, they agreed to hold our luggage for three days, then suddenly said they couldn’t and left us looking for options.
For the price you pay, you expect better service and basic amenities to function properly. Wouldn’t recommend this place — there are better and more reliable options in London.

Urgent – Legal Action and Intention to Pursue Damages
Dear General Manager Ben Kim,
I am writing to inform you that, despite your assurances to investigate and resolve my complaint by Monday, April 7th, I have yet to receive any response from you. Today is Wednesday, April 9th, and I have been left with no choice but to take this matter further.
As a result of your continued failure to address the issues raised regarding my stay at Montcalm Royal London House, including the emotional and physical distress caused by your hotel’s negligence, where I a vulnerable disabled woman was bullied by three of your male staff, substandard hotel conditions, I will now be pursuing legal action for damages.
Specifically, I am seeking £30,000 in compensation for the ongoing distress, pain, and suffering I have endured due to your failure to meet basic customer service expectations and to address my complaint within the agreed timeline.
You will be receiving a recorded delivery notification of this letter of intention shortly. Please consider this a final opportunity to resolve this matter before legal proceedings are initiated.
I trust that you will take this seriously and act immediately.
Should I not receive the full refund of £464 ( first and second night refund of £210 + 248) paid within 48 hours of this notice, I will proceed with filing legal claims and engaging the media, including taking this matter to the Financial Ombudsman and other relevant authorities.
Please be advised that I am fully prepared to take all necessary steps to ensure my rights are respected and that appropriate compensation is secured.
Sincerely,

5 Stars for Daniel - Head Concierge! Daniel single-handedly made our visit enjoyable and salvaged our opinion of the hotel. He went out of his way to help us as our refrigerator was broken the entire time we were there. He kept our ice bucket stocked, so we can keep our drinks and refrigerated items cold and always did it with a smile … love that guy!❤️
The hotel was beautiful.
I booked it primarily for each location and rooftop seating. Sadly, they wouldn’t allow us to enjoy our favorite beverages we had purchased at local breweries and wineries. Only boring items from their menu. Thanks for killing that experience! To be clear…. DONT go to Verdant Brewing and buy the best beer made in the UK, and hope to enjoy it from your rooftop of the hotel you paid $300 a night for ….
You’re better off going out to the park in front of the hotel and enjoying better beverages out there at “Finsbury Square Garden Bar”
Also, there’s no walls to the shower so the floor becomes a small pool in the bathroom. Nice one.
Thanks again Daniel!…. You were amazing!

We stayed at The Montcalm Royal London House early in May as a base for a weekend in London.
We made our reservation through Booking.com but unfortunately had to change the date which was impossible through them. Whilst in London, ahead of our stay we met Otilia (Duty Manager) and explained our problem. We consider ourselves lucky to have met her, as Otilia spent so much time supporting our date change with Booking.com, going above and beyond to ensure we could visit on our chosen date.
Once we actually arrived our experience didn’t lose its shine.
The staff at check in were wonderful and we got the chance to see Otilia again!
Check in and check out was smooth and the staff were interested and so helpful.
The room was stunning and had a view over Finsbury Square. Products in the room were of very good standard and the bed was comfortable. It had all the facilities expected at such a hotel.
It was a beautifully sunny day over the Bank Holiday and so we opted to spend some time at the Aviary rooftop bar and restaurant. Since the weather was so good many others had the same idea. The outside terrace was very busy but staff found us seating inside, near the bar.
Despite it being busy, service was prompt and friendly. We did not envy the job they were doing, but the staff managed extremely well. It was time for a bit of fizz, which we throughly enjoyed.
Before leaving for dinner we had another quick glass of champagne at the Burdock bar downstairs. The barman was really friendly and served us promptly. The perfect start to our evening out in London.
We were sad to leave The Montcalm. We had a great experience and the term ‘above and beyond’ was frequently needed for the service received throughout our stay.
It might not be the first thought of an area to stay in the city but it really was a delight.
One more thank you to Otilia and the team for making it so special. We will be back!

Share with you my written complaint - no one available in the hotel to talk to about it. Junior staff quite aggressive, seem left to deal with wrongly marketed product:
Dear Sir / Madam
As a Montcalm member, I was reassured by your website to book 2 nights at the 5 star Royal London hotel with promises of room upgrade where possible, breakfast included for members.
As such, I booked our stay with you in good faith for my wedding anniversary as a special treat.
I am so disappointed that expectation and experience were so far apart.
On arrival a very aggressive greater demanded ID, which I had not brought with me.
I provided the reservation email which seemed to suffice. I felt there was a lot of really bad attitude at that transaction.
During check in we were advised the wellness facilities were closed - in shock I advised that it was literally the only reason we had booked this hotel but no offer to check us in at the Montcalm East 5 mins down the road was offered.
We were advised a taxi was available if we wanted to use thier facilities, which is really inconvenient.
Our room was very tired and none to clean - holes and burns in the headboard, staining on the carpet, scratched furniture, marks on the walls and grubby net curtains and worst of all mold and discolouration around the shower and back flow from drains when running a tap.
The room was shabby and could not in any way be described 5 star or superior.
Breakfast was absolute chaos - waiting staff seemed to be doing thier absolutely best but loosing - queues of up to 10 guests to be seated. We waited less than 10 minutes but others were a lot longer - the couple seated next to us waited 20 minutes for thier coffee order.
A fish stinks from the head and leadership is absent at this hotel.
Often when things are not right now seems to be the case that junior staff are left to aggressively deal with poor service, to make complaining futile and then dismiss online reviews made after check out.
Im still in the hotel so hope you will take the opportunity to address all issues.
Regards
Dean

The rooms at the hotel have been updated. This time unfortunately the spa / pool was out of use due to maintenance but the lovely staff said if we wanted to use it all we had to do was tell them and they would organise transport over to their sister hotel so we could use it there.
Rooftop bar is lovely too, haven't been the last couple of stays but the views are pretty and drinks are good.
Looking forward my next stay x x

Our room was divine - magnificent comfortable bed and the bathroom and amenitites/accessories were superb. The roof top restaurant and bar area is a definite highlight with amazing views of London.
Perfect location too for arriving by tube from Heathrow Airport - only a short flat walk to this hotel which is across from a lovely park and nice restaurants/pubs closeby.
Highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in London.

Hotel montcalm royal london
Excellent hospitality and extremely cooperative staff at The Montcalm Royal London Hotel. The rooms are comfortable ,clean and spacious, and the breakfast is also quite good. Must recommend if someone want to stay around Finsbury square
Fantastic hotel with excellent facilities. We would especially like to thank Luca on the front desk for what is probably the best service we have ever received on our travels. It’s was a pleasure to meet a staff member with such excellent character and customer service skills.
I have to say a special thanks to Daniel from the concierge who went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. Otherwise the stay was a top experience.
Amazing one night stay that made our anniversary even more special!
From the moment we walked in the staff were very polite, we got upgraded from what I assume was a classic double room to a business suite, which as a young couple had never happened before at other places, the dinner was lovely and the staff were so accommodating with...

Overall an amazing experience, would definitely recommend!

We enjoyed our stay at the Royal Montcalm in London. Paul made us feel welcome at the front door. We got a great, spacious room and the concierge had an excellent recommendation for dinner at the Lucky Car. The people at the Aviary are great! The breakfast is solid. The location is superb: everything is within walking distance but it’s also away from the most crowded areas. Really nice trip and would stay here again!

A gem of a hotel in a great location in London. It’s got a pool, it’s got a rooftop bar and restaurant, it’s got great staff, the rooms are comfortable, spacious and modern…and it’s got a brewery that makes and serves great beer and burgers! What more do you need?

We arrived pre check in time and asked for a room earlier. In a busy Saturday we understood may not be possible so went to the roof top bar The Aviary and waited. Luggage can be stored securely at the hotel. We only had a bag so didn’t worry. FYI best to book aviary - they were very accommodating and squeezed us in for an hour. Being a roof top in the summer it’s busy but beautiful and great drinks with snacks menu. Sax player even played happy birthday to me! Our room became available earlier ( timed with our hour at the aviary!) which was great and was very clean , air conditioned, spacious and modern. Bed was king size and very comfortable and shower room en-suite fabulous - lovely big drencher! The room had a fridge with drinks and a selection of snacks. This is at cost, we didn’t drink alcohol but had snacks and it was not overly expensive baring in mind these things generally are. Bottled water was provided free. Coming back from a concert and tube ride in a heatwave to the air conditioned room was a dream! I used the spa in the morning which was lovely. Loved the strong jets in the spa pool great for back massage! Note it is not really a swimming pool it’s a spa pool so do not expect to do lengths. Hotel does have a gym for those wanting a full. work out. Slippers and dressing gown are provided in your rooms. Although we didn’t eat so can’t comment I would recommend this hotel for its facilities, including roof top bar location to London Liverpool Street and beyond plus the staff were friendly helpful and professional.

If you’re offered room 904, ask for a change. Your door is right opposite the open stairwell for the Avairy and it’s VERY noisy. You hear all the guests walking passed your room to go and from the Avairy. You hear all the guests congregating in the Avairy both at night and in the mornings. There is a door within your room to shut out the noise but you need to open that door each time you use the bathroom so it feels very uncomfortable hearing all these people outside your room when you’re showering.
concierge was a lovely. However, I asked for local knowledge and assistance for travel. He tried to offer us a driver to and from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, stating we’d have to take two or three underground trains to get to the stadium and back, implying it would be a bit of a nightmare. And the offered cost??? £125 EACH WAY!!! £250 total!!!! He said he’d had a lot of guests already ask him the same thing that day and they booked the driver!!! One, who on earth pays that much money?!? Two, why was he not offering car shares then? Felt it was a money making tactic for the hotel! Then we downloaded the app ‘Citymapper’ and it confirmed we could get the Weaver line from Liverpool Street to White Hart Lane. Straight through journey there and back, so simple! Didn’t experience any stress and it cost £4 each way! So if you’re going to a gig from this hotel, there’s your best route. Oh and download Citymapper!!! ABSOLUTE GAME CHANGER for visiting London!

Had a great weekend with my partner at Montcalm, we were treated to the executive lounge drinks and snacks, served by the lovely Dhwani & Mihir who were so so attentive and never left our glasses empty!
They was the sweetest staff ever !!!!
Sahil is the best staff ever in the reception and Ayo from the restaurant made my whole stay in London 100x better !! Please give them a raise
Excellent hotel. Great location. Lovely room and view onto Finsbury square. Lots on going in the area but also the rooftop bar was a really peaceful escape. One frustration is that the TV wouldn't allow us to connect our phone/tablet to watch Netflix etc.
The hotel is absolutely amazing and the spa facilities are perfect!! They upgraded us to the club members which was very generous of them!! Dhwani, our lovely lounge chef de rang was really lovely and very helpful and recommended us to have the dim sum which were out of this...

Hotel room was lovely and modern however did find stains on the walls and curtains which needed to be rectified. The breakfast was an absolute disaster, staff not knowing what to do, no plates on the buffet, did not revive coffee order after waiting 45 mins, no presentation on the ordered food, missing items on ordered food, porridge in- editable, staff not seating customers quickly, tables not being cleared- absolute disaster. Simply, the staff were completely incompetent at breakfast service.

Every dish that came out of the kitchen was beautifully prepared, full of flavour, and clearly made with care. You can tell he takes pride in what he does, it came through in every bite.

This is a 5 star hotel and I think that’s accurate. The decor and ambiance is great. The staff are generally very good and the facilities are up to scratch. As this was a big anniversary for us they very wonderfully had rose petals waiting on the bed and complimentary wine and macarons/mousse as well as a hand written card. This was excellent. The bed is nice and the carpets are lush.
The gym is very pleasant with bottled water and a reasonable set of equipment - however there is no AC which is a problem. The pool and space is great and as expected.
The place smells wonderful and the lemonade in the lobby is lovely.
It’s a 5 star for sure and as per above it’s great and worth the price.
The issues are minor and are only notable because of its status and rating but don’t let them put you off:
The cooler didn’t work and when maintenance came up the foreign guy quite angrily claimed it wasn’t broken despite all the warm bottles. His colleague argued it with him as he could see it was broken and they immediately replaced it (this one was cold so clearly the other was broken). The staff member helping didn’t speak English properly when I tried to establish if the milk was UHT or not (relevant as the cooler only goes to 9 degrees).
There is a Nespresso machine but it’s not adequate if you want a longer coffee and one morning it was three decaf pods and only one normal which wasn’t helpful for a couple.
There’s no iron but there is a steamer.
The bathroom is small and an awkward shape but nice inside.
The lights/do not sitting/maid required are controlled by a not very sensitive touchscreen which you have to bash/yell at/stroke to get to work. This screen stays on all night and lights up the room. A normal switch would have been nice!
Someone had left a half eaten pot of gummies under our bed so the cleaning wasn’t thorough enough and we had to prove this to staff because the gummies hadn’t been replaced and we didn’t want to get charged for them!
We didn’t eat at either restaurant but the prices were high.
Despite these issues, it’s a great place to stay and worth the price and star rating. Thanks to the staff for helping to make it a trip to remember.

Our experience started well with welcoming staff and a reasonable check-in. When we reached our room it was pleasant enough but with stains on the curtains and bunched up carpet. The worst thing, however, was the lack of air-conditioning as it clearly wasn't working. As we left for our concert, we spoke to reception and asked for it to be fixed and we were told we couldn't change rooms as they were fully booked so they would find us a fan. When we returned we had no fan and still no air conditioning in the room was like a furnace. We rang reception again and requested a fan which was duly delivered but then we discovered it was missing the on/off switch so didn't work. Another call to reception miraculously had them find us another room so at 1am we moved. Unfortunately this room's air conditioning didn't work either and we ended up with a fan (working)
We ate breakfast in the hotel which was nice - very busy and not enough tables. Overall not a 5* experience.

DONT WASTE YOIR TIME HERE-
SERVICE AND RESERVATIONS IS A DISGRACE!!! DO NOT BUY GIFT VOUCHERS ON THEIR WEBSITE THE STAFF DONT KNOW HOW TO USE THEM OR KNOW HOW TO ANSWER THE PHONE!!
We stayed here mid march, after having an amazing first experience at this hotel last year, however this time around was not very good. It was my husbands 40th birthday, I asked in advance for birthday decorations to be in our room and drinks on arrival. When we got there, no birthday drinks on arrival and they took our bags and said they would bring to our room but later when we checked in, we discovered our bags weren’t bought to our room, so my husband went down to get them and the room had no birthday decorations!! I rang to complain to reception as I arranged this in advance and was very disappointed plus the service of the bags, this was my husbands celebration weekend away, we also had friends stay there with us and they also didn’t have there bags bought to their room.. among other things - our air con was not working and the room was like an oven- not what you’d expect for a 5 star hotel!!!
Trying to book with gift vouchers from their website is an absolute joke, the staff don’t answer the phone they have No idea how to book a room with their own vouchers, it’s an utter shambles!!!
Unfortunately we received gift vouchers for Xmas and if it wasn’t for those I would NOT BE STAYING HERE EVER AGAIN!!!
Disgraceful reservation team and staff in general not helpful in the slightest!!
THE LEONARDO HOYRLS ATE MICH BETTER!!!
