You can spend all your time at the Canyon Suites and enjoy quiet, comfort, and service that is excellent. But we also dined at the J&G steakhouse in the main resort just a short walk away, and we enjoyed the excellent golf at the Phoenician. They recently added an upgraded breakfast that is superb with many choices hot and cold. The detail and services here are the best we have experienced at Bonvoy properties.

Canyon Suites' promise of Stellar Service and Quiet fell short for us

This staycation was to celebrate my husband's well-deserved retirement, so I splurged a bit. (Wasn't too happy about tax on the $60 resort credit and other things that took our bill for 2 nights to $1200 off-peak. Could have swallowed it if the experience was what it was cracked up to be.) I chose Canyon Suites for two reasons based on reviews: stellar service and a quieter, smaller resort within the Phoenician complex. Both were a disappointment - some circumstantial and some not. This review is long but you decide for yourself what to take from it. I actually wish the hotel would have sent me a chance to review them so I could give this feedback to them directly. Back when my reservation was originally moved due to renovation noise at my request (by phone), the reservationist really wanted to offer complimentary sparkling water and a diet coke be in our room to welcome the retiree. When we checked in at 6:30 pm, we were asked if we were there for any particular reason...and when we got to the room, nothing. The next day, I asked someone at the desk - a so-called "embassador" that reviews said we'd have specifically assigned to us - and he said it did show in the reservation but maybe got missed since we weren't in our room. So when he offered to try again, I told him we had a 6 pm dinner reservation that night, he said no worries, he'd make sure at 6:15 pm the delivery would happen. (He seemed to put on a front of caring but lacked sincerity.) Came back from dinner at 8:45 - nothing again. To our shock, when we were finishing an "intimate" celebration, we were interrupted by banging on the door by room service with lots of water and coke plus snacks. I had to scramble and answer in a robe and my husband was irritated, so the whole thing was more of a nuisance than anything. Room service for lunch that day took very long also, and two very small wraps came to $67. I asked the kitchen for help with my low sodium diet ( I get very sick) - wasn't forthcoming with suggestions and when the wraps came, it was hard to tell them apart and to be sure some things were left out of mine. When we buzzed 2x like we were supposed to for them to retrieve the tray, it never happened. Also that evening, the guest next to us left their German shepherd in the room alone (I guessed the breed by the bark and was right). It barked loudly and intermittently for quite a while. We waited until close to bedtime to report it, hoping the owner would return - maybe they went to dinner. To their credit, the ambassador on duty coordinated with security and they acted fast in tracking down the owner to return and when they did, the dog was ok (naturally...). The valet drivers were great - professional, friendly, happy to serve. We found pool and breakfast servers to be overly intrusive - hovering too much and asking too much if we needed anything else, walking in our path a lot at the buffet etc. They mean well and this is personal preference but it was overbearing for us. I will say the breakfast buffet is beautifully presented and a hearty mix of "healthy" and otherwise - could suit most if not all diets. Bravo on that! The pool was nice and quiet, too. Lastly, my husband woke up at 3 am both nights in a sweat. We had our thermostat et on 62 (have it on 78 at home) and still it was that warm. The bed was comfortable, the room spacious and dark for sleeping, and what an amazing bathroom! Photos will show all those good things so have a look on their site. I'll leave with the highlight of the stay - dinner at the Phoenician's J & G Steakhouse! They warmly welcomed the retiree and sat us by a window as pre-requested. Our waiter Chris went above and beyond - it was his pleasure to work with the chef to modify a meal for me to make it low sodium and brought my husband a special dessert. The food was high quality and cooked to perfection. A steak with 2 sides, a salad, and my salmon dinner came to $189 with tip, but the experience was worth every penny. It made up for all else that lacked and to top it off, the maitre' d came by and told us to come outside and he'd take our photo with the pools and the painted sky in the background. That's a keepsake! So A++ for J and G. The main middle of the road restaurant - Mowry and Cotton - was closed. The Tavern was a golf cart ride away and did the trick for a sandwich and a salad. Thirsty Camel's menu was a bit too limited for dinner for us.

Very relaxing & luxurious stay in the end of May. The property is beautiful. Complimentary buffet breakfast in the lobby was great. The staff was very friendly. This is the first time I ever felt like I had to give a special "shout out" to the housekeeping staff. Not only was the room extremely cleaned, but things like my phone cables were nicely wrapped every day. The only thing I would improve would be to have a full time pool attendant. Of the three days at the pool, there was only an attendant the first day. So I had to open the heavy umbrellas myself the next two days. I understand it was a slow time & only a few guests at the pool. Maybe I would suggest opening all the umbrellas at the beginning of the day.

I chose the Canyon Suites for my husband's 50th based on the reviews, and it did not disappoint! From the valet to front desk, bartenders to housekeeping staff, everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful! The rooms were roomy, clean, and the bed/pillows were some of the softest I've ever slept in! We enjoyed using the pools, spa, and restaurants, which were also all absolutely wonderful! The staff were always engaging and friendly, and the view of the waterfall and Camelback Mountain from the bar/patio was breathtaking! If I had to critique any one aspect, it would be that the Canyon Lounge Bar needed to be open later than 9:00 - perhaps 10:00 at least. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

There is good reason this place has so many 5 star reviews. Before I arrived, I received an email from the property about construction. I called and spoke with Derek and explained it was an anniversary trip and that we would like a room away from the noise. We ended up with a beautiful room and heard no noise at all. Derek and his colleague Sydney were responsive to all of our needs and requests, no matter how small. They really do go above and beyond to ensure a wonderful experience for their guests. Daily breakfast at the Canyon Suites was also top notch. Everything was fresh and their “continental breakfast” included bagels, smoked salmon, delicious pastries and fresh fruit among many other things. My experience at the spa was delightful, but not exceptional. The spa was very busy which is good for the venue I suppose, but it was loud in the relaxation spaces and just felt crowded. I didn’t even try to go to the spa pool since the Canyon Suites pool was so much calmer and quieter. You have access to the main resort pools which were fun and boisterous and I’m glad we experienced a day of it, but for a vacation meant for unwinding, it was back to the Canyon Suites pool for the rest of our stay. All of the pools greet you almost immediately with ice water (complimentary) and a menu to order (pay for) other snacks if desired. The restaurants were also very good, but you’d expect that at the prices they charge. I definitely recommend The Canyon Suites at the Phoenician.

Staying at the Canyon Suites allowed us to experience the best of both worlds. It gave us the proximity to Old Town, downtown, & Phoenix that we wanted but also the quiet & relaxation that we needed. Though the Phoenician is also a wonderful property it is far too busy for what we wanted. The Canyon Suites are a nice resort within a resort. Upon arrival we received an upgrade to a King suite facing the majesty of Camelback. This suite was huge. I just wish the living room furniture was more comfortable. They have a great area with a large TV but the furniture is really hard. Thankfully the bed was super comfy. We really enjoyed the patio. It was a great spot to enjoy that first cup of coffee in the morning and listen to the birds. The bathroom was also very spacious & had ample towels & great Byredo products. The staff were friendly & helpful & took great care to try to learn our names. Too many staff to mention. Hopefully you'll get an opportunity to meet Buzz. Even the valets & bellhops were helpful & a great resource for info. The housekeeping staff takes great pride in what they do. There are a few areas I think the Canyon Suites could improve upon in addition to my gripe about furniture. They need more pool staff. Those poor folks are responsible for getting you set up, taking food & drink orders, & making their own cocktails. They really could use another set of hands to move chairs & umbrellas. I also think some of the umbrellas & chairs could be replaced & that the hot tub area could use some TLC. Also, their cabana rental prices are outrageous. I've had less expensive rentals in Monaco, Miami, & and the Caribbean. Lastly, would it kill the breakfast attendants to walk around with a carafe of coffee to see if anyone needs refills.

This property may have the best hotel staff anywhere! Beginning with our check in experience with Anastasia - which may have been the calmest most professional and helpful check in ever - complete with an escort to our door! No standing in line here! You are warmly greeted by the bell staff, luggage whisked away seamlessly, and seated in a comfortable chair to check in at one of two desks. Asked about your stay she expertly arranged dining reservations, tee times and spa appts in the time it would take anyone else to make up your keys! With only 60 rooms this resort within a resort is an oasis. The spa is beautiful and my services excellent. Roberto for massage and Kristin in nails top notch. What made the spa apt most relaxing was the welcome tour and greeting I received from Paulina who was most helpful when I inadvertently left an item behind. The lobby has games and a fireplace and was a cozy hangout in the evenings for a glass of wine and the patrons were all friendlier than most likely picking up on the vibe of kindness and warmth that permeates this property. Special mention to Buzz who works at breakfast and the spa!

We’re currently in a long term stay here. It’s a beautiful property with wonderful guests & excellent employees. We entered the suite after having a lovely dinner at Mowry & Cotton Monday. We immediately noticed an unpleasant odor coming from the half bathroom. We inspected the bathroom & noticed a large area of the ceiling covered in mold. (See attached pics) They had to cut away part of the ceiling to remove the mold. The two gentleman who removed the mold made a terrible situation better; considering what was going on. I can’t say the same for the executives/management team. I’ve noticed that several salary employees at this hotel (dealing with my issues & other guests) has the best interest of Marriott; not the guest.
