Stonewall Resort

We reserved a room and made reservations for the Moonshine Pairing Dinner. It will not be soon forgotten--the food was delicious, the drinks were amazing, and the background to all of it was gorgeous! We are excited to share an upcoming event with friends.

My Husband and I have stayed twice over the winter, once in January and again over Valentines Day weekend. We LOVE the heated indoor/outdoor pool and the hot tubs. Both restaurants open this time of year are phenomenal, we look forward to trying out the other options when they're open...

My Husband and I have stayed twice over the winter, once in January and again over Valentines Day weekend. We LOVE the heated indoor/outdoor pool and the hot tubs. Both restaurants open this time of year are phenomenal, we look forward to trying out the other options when they're open since they're seasonal. TJ Muskies is our go to the first night we get there, casual bar setting with amazing food, you're also able to order off of the Stillwaters menu, so even if you can't get a table in the restaurant itself, you can get their food, too! Stillwaters does a great breakfast buffet on the weekends, we've never been there throughout the week, so I'm not sure if it is still an option then, but Saturday and Sunday it is! Many different options, so there's something for everyone. Their weekend themed buffets for dinner have been great, we've had the Cajun themed and the BBQ themed, nothing has been a disappointment. The resort itself has been around for a long time, so don't go expecting some super modern resort with all the bells and whistles, this is a quaint and simple resort located in the mountains of WV. The beds are so much more comfortable (in my opinion) than any Hilton or Holiday Inn (both of which are my preferred hotels for travel). Some minor updates to the rooms could be made, but nothing has stood out as a deal breaker for us.

The food left a lot to be desired. The breakfast buffet was generic. Most options were cold and had to keep asking for items to be refilled. The dinner buffet was horrible. Except for paper thin slices of prime rib every other food option was Cajun. We were told the buffet would consist of prime rib, chicken and seafood. We weren’t told the theme was Mardi Gras. This brings us to the entertainment. Dueling Pianos consisted of two piano players and a female drummer who was married to one of the piano players. He compared her to Sheila E and said she was one of only three female drummers in the world. He also claimed their trio was the only dueling piano group in West Virginia. He must have been delusional from the endless shots he was drinking. They were constantly asking for money to sing songs that people requested. They didn’t know the words to the majority of the songs and then would say screw it and would quit. This show is nothing like what is described on Stonewalls website. Spare yourself. We won’t be going back.

Service is exceptional from the moment you arrive. All the staff are extremely courteous and hospitable. The food at both restaurants is delicious and always on point The rooms need some updating, we have been going there for years and some of the rooms have never been updated.

There were people on the 1st floor openly smoking marijuana. My wife was sick from it. We got married here last year and have stayed close to two dozen times over 2 years. We were only offered a $50 per night discount. Unbelievable. We won’t be back. So sad. Terrible,...

We decided to stay on New Years Eve. There were three packages offered, but despite 4-5 phone calls we couldn’t get much more information other than what was written on the website. Let’s start with the good. Stonewall is a beautiful property and we really enjoyed the area outside with the fire pit and seating areas and the lovely view from our room. The entryway was well decorated and very cozy and welcoming. We ate lunch at TJ Muskies, which is a very nice small restaurant/bar and our food was good, but it took a very long time to get our food. The ok part- the rooms are clean, but need to be updated. Now the bad part. We decided to book the Ballroom package primarily because of the 4 course meal. The food was a huge disappointment. The crab cake was terrible and the filet was tough and not flavorful. We barely touched it. Not only was the food a disappointment it was quite a bit of wait time between courses. It fell quite a bit short of what we had hoped. We did enjoy the band and dancing so all was not lost and the band played until 1 a m so that worked well. However, this is the first place we’ve ever stayed that didn’t offer late check out on New Year’s. Not only did they not offer late check out the housekeeping staff was knocking on doors and running the sweeper in the hallway early morning. Oh and then there was the dog barking in the room next door. We had made breakfast reservations as part of our New Years package and the breakfast buffet was very good at Stillwaters. They had made to order omelettes and I especially appreciated the fresh berries and waffles. In summary, did we have a good time? Yes. Would we return on New Year’s? Not so sure. As stated previously, dinner was drawn out and not good at all which was a big disappointment. Being woken up early by housekeeping and a barking dog - also not pleasant. There’s potential to make this a wonderful experience in a lovely property, but for us - this time it came up short.

It was a wonderful couple Christmas/Winter experience. My wife and I loved the outdoor heated pool, which was a special experience on a cold winter day. The lobby was beautifully decorated. Ended the night with S'mores by the fire. Had an amazing stay!
