A Majestic Retreat in the Heart of Rome
Following a complete re-design in July 2019, the Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese reopened its doors to showcase a fusion of ‘La Dolce Vita’ Italian heritage with contemporary French ‘Art de Vivre’. The hotel is situated in a former 19th century Roman palazzo, with design influenced by the landscape gardens of the adjacent Villa Borghese. The result is an enticing blend of pastel colors, Italian heritage art, and crisp, contemporary furnishings, creating a dialogue between the elegance of French classicism and the opulence of Italian baroque.
Luxurious Accommodations
Offering 78 elegantly adorned rooms and suites, the hotel provides a range of accommodations to suit every preference. From superior One-bedroom to the expansive 538 square-feet Prestige King-bedroom Suites, each room features exquisite interiors with baroque-inspired ceiling art, signature Sofitel MyBed, marble bathroom, and Hermès toiletries. The Prestige Suites, some with private terraces, offer luxurious amenities like leather key cardholders, a choice of room fragrance, indulgent bath rituals, and monogrammed pillowcases. All rooms and suites provide 24-hour room service for the ultimate comfort and convenience.
Dining with a View
On the hotel’s seventh floor is the crown jewel, ‘Settimo’, a high-end bar and restaurant offering panoramic views of the Villa Borghese gardens, The Vatican City, and St. Peter’s Basilica. Settimo serves contemporary Roman dishes made from locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant’s Executive Chef, Giuseppe D’Alessio, combines traditional Roman culinary styles with his signature flair to create a unique dining experience. Cocktail enthusiasts can enjoy sundowners with a view, complemented by specially paired finger food.
A Prime Location
Perfectly located in the heart of Rome, the Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese is just minutes away from the city’s finest attractions, including The Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, and Villa Medici. The hotel is also only 32km away from Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, making it an ideal choice for travelers seeking both convenience and an authentic Roman experience.
Whether you’re celebrating your honeymoon or simply seeking a romantic getaway, Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese offers an enchanting blend of luxury, history, and modern comforts, all in the heart of one of the world’s most romantic cities.

Roman Holiday at Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese.
Staying at Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese was a wonderful experience. The views of the Vatican City from the breakfast floor were memorabile. Giordana, Gabriella and Giancarlo made our breakfast experience more pleasurable by their friendly, helpful service. We thoroghly enjoyed our stay at this comfortable, well-positioned hotel.
Fantastic hotel. I was with my wife during 3 days, and the services, employees attention and room were perfect. Hotel situation is really good to visit Rome walking, without necessity to use public transport. I recommend to dine in roof terrace, with amazing views.

Fantastic hotel! Staff was outstanding, everyone was helpful and kind. Room was huge by European standards. Super clean and the breakfast was outstanding with many choices. The pastries were very good. Roof top bar provides a great view of Rome. Just as a heads up, it’s about one mile from the tourist spots like the Pantheon with the return trip uphill at the end bd if you walk it. As an option plenty of taxis to shuttle you back if you are beat.

Several good things to say about Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese: 1) Clean (a big postive). 2) Beautiful in appearance. 3) Quiet and relaxing, no kids running around. 4) Breakfast on 7th floor was excellent, as was the view. 5) Staff were friendly and helpful. However, there were a couple significant negatives about the Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese 1) Bed. The bed mattress had significant divots/sag which made it difficult to get a restful night's sleep (see photo). A turn or roll towards the center of the bed was like trying to summit one of the 7 hills of Rome. Minus one star. 2) Outlets. A minor thing, but the electrical outlets were so worn (the metal prongs), plugs would not stay secure.

Beautiful hotel and staff. Everyone was so accommodating and the room was gorgeous! The restaurant was also beautiful! We obtained a corner suite that had a beautiful view of a park. The bed and sheets was a destination we never wanted to get out of. The bathroom was beautiful with dual showers and every night, housekeeping always checked up on us to ensure we had everything we needed. The location of the hotel was perfect and will be a hotel that I will come back to stay!

Me and my wife spent one week in the Sofitel Rome in a suite with a terrace and a jacuzzi. The location of the hotel is beautiful, away from the hustle and bustle of Rome near Villa Borghese, but there are still nice restaurants in walking distance and you can walk or take a taxi/Uber to the main attractions. Our stay was wonderful and we enjoyed it really. The staff was so nice and friendly all the time. Everything was perfect, so I will start with the things that could be improved: - The start was a bit problematic: we booked a transfer from the airport to the hotel in the booking process within the Sofitel homepage. When we arrived, no driver was there. This is the start of your luxurious holiday you have always dreamt about. We had to make a few phone calls with the hotel and the driver company until a driver finally arrived. Our flight was 30min delayed, but when I have to enter the flight data during booking on the Sofitel homepage, I expect that the driver (Pegasus Company) informs himself about delays instead of disapearing when the customer of a delayed flight is not there. I would book an Uber next time. - During checkin, we did not get a voucher for a welcome drink (Gold members). This is not important for us from a monetary point of view, it is just a nice gesture we know from other Sofitels. - We received our keys but no one (!) came with us to the room to show it to us and explain everything, we were just left alone there (in a 2000€/Night Suite). - There were no welcome goodies in the room. No welcome card from the manager, just nothing. 1 flower and a plain room. - We wanted to print out the flight tickets for our return flight. The guest mac with a printer has such an old OS (when I remember right it was somewhere around 10.8), there were even popups from Apple that the OS and browser are outdated and not safe) and ergo we could not checkin online, but the friendly front staff helped us out. But they should not have such an outdated computer in the public area. The keyboard and the mouse were really dirty and sticky, just replace them from time to time. - Breakfast was included in our rate (I think otherwise it is 45€). But with a 2000€ suite you still have to pay every omelet from the kitchen separately. I am not talking about a caviar breakfast, just an omelet. We are not used to that for example from the St. James Sofitel in London. - While we are discussing the topic of breakfast: there was an older gentleman who took all the bread to his table. Yes! We and our fellow guests next table could not believe what we saw. Not just one day. Every day. Unfortunately if you came later than him, there was no more bread there and you had to take the little parisian baguettes (which we loved, so not really a problem for us) that he obvioulsy did not like. Bread was not refilled then. I do not know who this guy was, but the staff did not say anything to him and the other guests had to eat the bread that he left. - Once we had the „do not disturb“ sign at the the door, I was just having a nap and a staff member entered the room (I must say, it was to bring us some gifts, so I feel a little bit bad to mention that). But now enough complaining on a high level, everything else was perfect, and I am shure they will improve these points, that is why I write this review down here. Why do I say this? There was a „problem“ during breakfast with the salt&pepper mills: they looked absolutely identical and so often we had either 2 salt or 2 pepper mills on the table. We mentioned this once, and a day later they changed all the mills so the staff could distinguish them better. Great service! The staff was absolutely lovely. The room was extremely clean every day, big compliment to Paola and Sanita (?), they did a great job, turndown service was amazing, the jacuzzi, the room and bathroom were very clean all the time, cleaner than any Sofitel I remember. The view from our room to the Vatican was amazing and the room and the whole hotel looked very „new“, I think they renovated the whole hotel not too long ago. We only enjoyed breakfast and the the bar, not dinner. The breakfast was great (except the „bread guy“), maybe they could add some more Italian sweets, but otherwise perfect. Bar staff was so nice and friendly. You must know that the bar and the restaurant are one unit melted together, so there is not a separate bar, so maybe if you arrive early during dinner time there is no place on the terrace, but the interieur is very nice too. I mentioned the points which were below our expectations upon arrival. BUT the hotel surpised us several times in our room, once with some fresh fruits, once with a nice bottle of Proseco, and much more during our stay. This made as feel very welcome and comfortable. Would we come back to this hotel? Absolutely yes, and if possible in the same suite again. So again, lot of compliments to the staff. The review is very benevolent due to the positive aspects and the staff we experienced. And due to the hope that they will improve the things we mentioned next time. Grazie molto. stiamo tornando!

We stayed at the Sofitel Villa Borghese for 9 days and had a beautiful stay. The hotel is located close to the Spanish Steps yet far from the noise and crowds of so many tourist areas. It is very close to the Borghese Gallery and huge park as well as to numerous great restaurants. The hotel underwent a big renovation in 2019 so it has been completely modernized in a very tasteful way. Our room was large and elegant with a king sized bed, sofa and table with chairs. The bathroom was fabulous with good lighting, a magnifying makeup mirror, plenty of room to leave toiletry bags and a modern and powerful shower. The towels were thick and luxurious. The staff at the hotel were truly extraordinary. Everyone, from the reception staff to concierge to doormen, was helpful and friendly. The breakfasts at Settimo were also outstanding. Paola and Giordana were ever-smiling, always charming and attentive to all our needs and requests. The buffet breakfast, which included eggs made to order, was very elaborate with many fruits, yogurts, chia puddings and other healthy options, in addition to numerous local specialties and typical North American breakfast choices. The rooftop location of the restaurant afforded a spectacular view of the whole city. In short our stay at the Sofitel Villa Borghese was one of the highlights of our visit to Rome. It was a peaceful, luxurious oasis that allowed us to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city but still be right in the heart of all that the city had to offer. We loved it!

We recently stayed at the Sofitel Villa Borghese in early August 2024 and found the experience to be generally positive, with some reservations. The hotel itself is well-equipped, with rooms that are impeccably clean, comfortable, and offer all the modern amenities one might expect from a hotel of this calibre. The standout feature of our stay was undoubtedly the breakfast. The selection was extensive, the quality of the food was excellent, and the staff were consistently accommodating and attentive, ensuring a pleasant start to each day. However, our experience with the “Luxury Room with a View” was disappointing. Despite paying extra for this feature, we were disheartened to find that our room offered no significant view. Instead, our outlook was dominated by a large wall and a driveway. When we raised our concerns with the hotel staff, they were very understanding and offered us an alternative room. Unfortunately, the view from the new room was not significantly better, leading us to stay in our originally allocated room. Another drawback was our anticipation of spending an evening on the hotel’s rooftop terrace, enjoying a cocktail while taking in the views. Unfortunately, we were informed that from 6:30 p.m. onwards, the rooftop restaurant and bar are reserved for dinner service only, making it impossible to have drinks without a meal after that time. This was a bit of a disappointment, as the terrace appeared to be an ideal spot for a relaxing evening drink. The hotel’s location is another strong point. It is very centrally located, making it easy to explore Rome’s main attractions on foot. The Spanish Steps are just a five to six-minute walk away, though the return journey involves a somewhat steep uphill walk, which might be challenging for some guests. The Trevi Fountain is about a 10-minute walk, and the Colosseum can be reached in approximately 25 minutes. Overall, while we enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel Villa Borghese and would consider returning, we would not opt to pay for the “Luxury Room with a View” upgrade again. The excellent breakfast and central location make this hotel a solid choice for visitors to Rome, but the advertised views and limited access to the rooftop terrace fell short of expectations.
