The entrance to Silversands Anse is one of the best we have ever seen; 100 metre infinity pool with blue Caribbean beach and sea in background & palm trees framing the picture. What a magnificent setting to check-in at the hotel. We were in a garden room and the room itself was excellent. Comfortable bed, mosquito nets, a great shower, bath (not used), free coffee which tasted good and very good air-con. The patio/verandah area with the garden room was comfortable, felt secluded and on your own to enjoy an evening drink. Pool area seemed to have lots of bed and efficient waiters. There are however only a small number of beds on the beach, crammed into a small space reserving the rest of the hotel beach for their exclusive villas. A bit annoying as the villas seemed empty. There is some sort of cryptic booking system for these beach sun loungers, utilising the staff to “reserve” a bed – it’s certainly not “first come first serve” and I witnessed empty beds until around lunchtime which was very frustrating when you wanted a lounger on the sand. All staff were brilliant. Spa area is brilliant – another quiet pool (no music), a great gym and stretch area, steam and ice room, shower and treatment rooms. We used this a fair bit for some peace and quiet and you can also use this on the day you leave after checking out (it has small lockers) which was greatly appreciated. Breakfast was fine, but all we really had was fruit, toast, coffee. Restaurants were pretty expensive and the mark-up on wine was insane. A bottle of Marques de Riscal Verdejo 22, which I drink a lot, retails for around $10 in the UK, on the wine list here (with taxes, service) it was $170 – a 17 times mark up is eye wateringly high even if it does need imported. We thus avoided the hotel restaurants and ate in local beach restaurants where wine was better value and the food was fine. A shame - that wine mark up, like a corked Margaux, left a bad taste in the mouth, hence the 4 stars. A great, if expensive, hotel right on the beach.

Beautiful property...modern luxury. Large rooms with every detail thought through. Excellent service. Property perfectly located on Grand Anse (on one side of the Grand Anse Beach. A single area for improvement: food (poor value for money).

My husband and I spent a week at Silversands. The property is beautiful and the staff was very welcoming we we arrived. Walking into the lobby and seeing the infinity pool that goes all the way down to the beach is a great first impression. We were in Hotel 2 and we loved our room. The floor to ceiling windows were great and we loved the balcony. The beach was nice and the beach attendants were helpful, bringing us cold water to our loungers. There are not many loungers on the beach but combined with the pool side loungers, I think there was always a spot for guests. We found the food at the resort to be a mixed bag. I had originally chosen Silversands over another resort due to the many vegan items on the online menus. So it was super disappointing on our first day to go to the Grenadian Grill and find out that the vegan black bean burger on the menu does not exist. The server did not appear to have any idea what vegan meant as she suggested a vegetarian item instead. We ended up having some really disappointing salads and french fries, which totaled nearly $100 USD. We never went back to this restaurant. The other restaurant at the resort, Asiatique, was also wildly expensive. The fried rice dish was $44 USD. But the food was good, there were many vegan options, and the servers and hosts at Asiatique were all super helpful and lovely. We went to Asiatique several times during our stay. We did run into a couple maintenance issues during our stay. We received a letter advising us that we would be without water in our room for a couple nights. Luckily the water shutoff was after midnight, so it wasn't a huge deal, but still not great. The issue that was much worse was some kind of faulty alarm in the hallway right outside our room. This resulted in constant beeping for nearly two days. There was one night of our trip where the beeping was so loud, all night, that even the fan in our room could not drown it out. We were unable to sleep and quite annoyed. The staff was not very helpful with this issue and just kept telling us it would be fixed. I would expect a five star resort to be able to resolve that issue much quicker.

Very well appointed rooms, good food and warm authentic service. The property is well run, with managers present. The bar and beach areas are excellently well run. On site prices a bit lively. The spa area is also of a very high standard. Highly recommended.

My stay at Silversands was a mixed experience. It has the foundation of a 5 star resort but it fell short in some key areas, and if not for the issues I encountered I would be at 5 stars as well. First the good. The grounds and beach area are beautiful, clean and modern. The room exceeded my expectations and was nearly perfect. The beach attendants and staff at the Asian restaurant were friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately we had some issues. There was an electronic security panel right outside our room and one evening it started beeping very loudly. I called the front desk and they said they were working on it. It was so loud that it ruined our night and prevented us from being able to sleep, which in turn soured the next day. In the morning I asked again and was told it would be fixed that night. It was finally fixed around midnight that day. This essentially ruined one day of our experience. I was not surprised they had to call an engineer outside the hotel staff to fix but I was very surprised the woman at the front desk didn't seem to care that it happened. I was not offered a free night or anything else to make up for the day. In fact I didn't even get an apology from management. Literally any gesture of acknowledgement or concern would have bumped this to 4 stars. I've stayed in many resorts of this level and usually management deals with issues in a much better way. I fully explained the issue and lack of sleep but I didn't want to have to argue for anything. The food and service at the Asian restaurant were great. We experienced the opposite at the other lunch restaurant. We had asked before we booked if they could accommodate a vegan diet and they were very encouraging that they could and there were items on the menu already that worked. When we actually went to eat though the vegan item was not available even though it was still on the menu. The uninterested waitress said there was nothing to replace it but she gave us a very short list of options. We ended up getting the salad and a side of fries. Both were tiny and not good. The salad tasted undressed and was mostly lettuce. This took a really long time and they charged $85 USD. We didn't even get drinks. We immediately cancelled our dinner reservation after that so I can't speak for that menu. The beach was nice but we were unable to get a spot the first day as there were no chairs left. We were told when we first got in that the beach never fills up. After that first day we went early to grab a spot. It would have been nicer if there was a bar at the beach but the awesome beach staff brought drinks to our chairs. If you don't have problems this can be a 5 star experience easily but if you run into issues be prepared for them not to care.

This is an exceptional hotel. Probably the best rooms in any beachside hotel anywhere in the world. It's 100 metre pool and a stunning beach adds much. The staff are superb, kind and attentive and always friendly. The downside as others have mentioned, is the mediocre food offerings. Breakfasts were good (the egg station is always on its game) but the Grenadian is overpriced and very ordinary (no real evidence it is a grill). The Asian offering was better but served in the breakfast area lacked any feeling of being Asian. Our other comment is about the lack of any bar. There is a strange room off the lobby that seems to open erratically but why no walk up beach bar, there's room for one? We snuck round to 61 West for sun-downers! The new manager will we hope get Silversands up to genuine 5 stars and we will return!!

The resort is absolutely beautiful, and the staff and service are top notch. The on-site dining options were great, and we were very pleased with the recommendations for dining off property. The beach and water are beautiful and calm, and the people could not have been more friendly!

I would split my rating as 5 stars for the building and rooms (just), and three stars for the service and food. The building is well appointed, looks good, has a great gym and spa. The pool is one of the best I have been to and there is generally a good vibe around the pool during the day. Right on the beach. Don’t take the VIP option at the airport, they didn’t show up for us and it is very easy anyway. At $150 ish each it is a total waste of money. Same for the VIP transfer, just get a cab outside. Very safe and much cheaper. The hotel rooms are good. We had a penthouse sea view and it was very nice. Only issue is the neighbouring dogs barking every night, there are lots of them and they are loud. So try and get a room in the middle of the resort. Food is not great. Very average and bland. We ate there most meals and were not blown away with any of the options. It is also expensive for what you get. The guacamole was served in a ketchup sized bowl with a ton of oily nachos, for example. We also ate at the sister property and although the service was much better the food was pretty much the same. We heard from another guest the company has a restaurant in St George’s, which was meant to be pretty good - it was a shame no one told us this as we had no time to go. Turning to service. This is a tricky one as I think there is an element of Caribbean time here but there is very little pro activity or stepping forward. I asked for guacamole and was told they only had bread. Make sense of that one. Then the next day I found out they did have it on another menu that was available had I only asked. The service around the pool was slow and often food would come out at different times. Finally turning to value. The hotel itself is good value, but the food and extras is not. The best example is the $200 each they charge for access to the VIP lounge at the airport, which is available for $30 when you get there. The food and wine is expensive, especially for the quality. We had a nice time but we will not be returning. Having visited the smaller sister hotel there is clearly a team vibe there. The staff were happier, more proactive and warmer, so I can only conclude there is a poor team culture and this is evident in the service and general ambience. All of these points were common themes amongst the guests. We talked to several others and the above reflects the shared experiences.

We had a generally very nice experience at the Silver Sands. It wasn’t perfect, but unless you are paying zero attention and have no expectations, there’s no such thing as perfect. The property itself is lovely for the most part. It’s a nice manageable size. It feels at once spacious and intimate. The developers did their best to create the illusion of a resort isolated from the outside world. More on that later. Across the board, the staff are friendly, outgoing, and very hard-working. There were some missteps in service here and there, and some operational shortcomings, but we have found that this is generally the case at resorts across the entire Caribbean at every price point. Silver Sands is a relatively young resort, and they are still finding their way in some areas, but they are already largely ahead of the curve. Unlike so many other places we’ve stayed, we encountered no one with an attitude or anyone who didn’t seem to want to do their job. The concierge team was particularly on their game. We are not high maintenance people, but every request we made was met quickly and efficiently. And unlike other resorts, we never overheard any other guests complaining about anything having to do with the concierge team. Based on earlier reviews, the food and beverage team has upped their game considerably. We had consistently tasty food, served by friendly, knowledgeable staff in a timely manner. There were a couple of speed bumps here and there, but overall we were quite happy with the restaurant and bar service, despite the high prices of some things. We have spent more money at other resorts for much less in terms of quality and service. While there were some small gaps in housekeeping’s consistency, they were more a source of confusion than anything else. The room was always kept very clean, if somewhat unevenly restocked here and there. The spa was nice enough, and the treatments were competent, but it was far from our favorite Caribbean spa experience. It felt a bit understaffed, particularly in the maintenance department. There were some stained towels and random half finished drinks lying about in the changing areas, and one worker was mopping the floor directly in front of us while we were trying to relax after our treatments. The shortcomings in the food/beverage, housekeeping, and spa areas are a fairly easy fix with continued training. But there are some things about the Silver Sands which cannot be fixed. In 14 years of Caribbean travel, we have never stayed at a luxury resort that was so closely situated to a busy road with so many tightly packed neighboring homes and businesses. St. George’s is a densely populated high traffic area of Grenada, and Silver Sands has insinuated itself in the thick of it. Throughout our stay, we were reminded of this, via barking dogs, chickens, car horns, sirens, loud music from passing cars and/or bars down the beach, etc. We still had a relaxing time in general, but the property is simply not remote or isolated in any way. If you can afford one of the 3 and 4 bedroom villas on the beachfront, you may not notice the hustle and bustle of St. George’s as much. But we were in one of the two hotel buildings situated behind the villas. And that was one of the major drawbacks of our stay. We were in building 1, which was the reportedly quieter of the two, based on previous reviews; somewhat further away from the barking dogs in the area. But the downside of being further away from the dogs was that we were directly behind one of the two restaurants. On our first night, we were kept awake by a loud, repetitive mechanical sound coming from the restaurant. We couldn’t figure out what it was, but we called the front desk and the next day the sound was mitigated for the most part. But the constant droning of the restaurant’s refrigeration/air conditioning, and the regular coming and going of staff and small vehicles, bringing supplies, linens, plates, etc. to and from the restaurant was not only visible, but highly audible from our balcony, and inside the room, all day and most of the night, until about midnight, every day. They built a busy restaurant in front of a large portion of their smaller rooms. There’s no getting around that. It may be a non-issue for some, but it’s worth noting if you are looking for quiet serenity. Again, this wasn’t a complete deal breaker for us, but it took a bite out out of the relaxation factor. The beach was very close, relatively speaking, to our room, but we couldn’t hear the ocean at all over the sounds of the constant industry directly below us. Unfortunately, we were also not able to find much serenity at the beach as often as we would have liked. It’s quite a small portion of beach, which has the benefit of being easy to get to and from on the property, but carries a distinct disadvantage when it comes to having to listen to your neighbors’ constant talking or smelling their cigarettes. If you are used to crowded busy resort with beach chairs a couple of feet apart from each other, you may not have any issues with this. But we have stayed in places where your nearest neighbor is several yards away and you are able to enjoy the natural beauty of a quiet beach in peace. The close nature of the beach chairs also made it difficult to stay in the shade of the smallish umbrellas. As the sun shifted, we kept having to move our chairs and inch closer and closer to our neighbors to avoid getting sunburned. There were also not enough umbrellas for all the chairs, and I witnessed a little bit of drama regarding that. Service at the beach, in terms of getting towels and drinks was mostly very good. There were some days when we had to chase people down for something, but overall I would say the beach service is fine. The staff is as friendly, hard working, and helpful on the beach as they are everywhere else on the resort. On a positive note at the beach; we were regularly treated with small gratis refreshments and snacks on a regular basis…much more frequently than anywhere else we’ve stayed. As a middle-aged couple seeking a peaceful beach retreat, we were largely satisfied for 6 of our 7 nights. People were mostly chill. The pool was populated by the occasional swimmer looking to cool off or take a few laps. The cabanas lining the pool were sparsely populated with people doing low-key things like napping or reading. We were lulled into thinking this must be an adults-only resort. But on our last day, we were starkly reminded that it is not an adults-only resort. A family with three young boys arrived and promptly turned the elegant infinity pool into a football field. There was much yelling and screaming. It completely changed the vibe of the pool area, and the resort itself. For our last day and a half, they dominated the pool and could be heard carelessly carrying on, their cacophony reverberating throughout the resort, audible even in our room with the windows closed and earplugs in place. I am constantly disappointed by my fellow Americans’ inability to read the room. Silver Sands seems perfectly poised to be an adults-only resort. I strongly feel this could give them an edge over the other child friendly chain hotels populating the island. We feel very lucky to have spent the majority of our time at the resort in a relatively calm child-free environment. But the arrival of that family on our last day was a reality check, and it will definitely impact our decision to return. Silver Sands is a bit of an anomaly. It clearly strives to be a five star property with five star service, but this seems to be an ambitious goal, in the face of being situated directly on top of a neighborhood of working local Grenadians, with copious chickens and dogs, and a small crowded beach, If you are staying in the rarified air of the beachfront villas, you could very well escape the misgivings we had with the resort. But if you are staying in the hotel buildings, be prepared for a somewhat variable, sometimes frustrating, and slightly cramped experience that raises some existential questions about what a five star resort doing in the middle of all of this.
