We went to Secret Tides Feb25/March 7. The place was beautiful beach was nice , tons of pools with lounges . But I think the people who work there make the place Felix the Bartender at the preferred always had a smile . Francis who worked at the Italian restaurant made our night laughing and smiling with us . Confurgo ( not sure how u spell) also works at the Italian restaurant and the morning Buffet always had my coffee filled with a smile too . I do need to give a score of 200 to the guy who took our bags . Raymond .on March 7 2025 in the morning . Polite and efficient. When our shuttle came to go to the airport somehow we lost a bag . Not Raymond’s fault. Anyway we left without our one bag to the airport . Raymond called about45 mintues later , on my way to give you your bag. We didn’t get to say thank you to Raymond who went out of his way for us . Secrets Tides should be proud to have someone like Raymond working for them . Yes we left the DR with all our luggage happy ! thanks to one caring employee Raymond !!!! Please extend our thanks . One last thing not really sure if there is a need for a butler.

We had a great time. Best restaurant was Tierra. Breakfast at Oceana was good but could be a bit slow so plan accordingly. The resort is beautiful and very clean. Staff was very attentive. Loved the fire pits at night. Hydrotherapy was very relaxing and spa is very nice. Decent size gym with plenty of equipment. Could use more free weight selection for upstairs gym. Jonathan was our butler and he was awesome - went above and beyond to any request! We also enjoyed drinks in the preferred lounge by Felix (best espresso martinis) and Nika (best margaritas)!

Let me start by saying we have stayed at several all inclusives, mostly Secrets and Dreams in Mexico and Punta Cana, also cruises, so we do have resorts to compare from our past experiences. Our room was rated as a Preferred Oceanview Room. Pros: -Beautiful Clean Resort!! -Rooms are new and very clean! Beds are very comfortable!! -Great walking beach! -Pool temps were nice -Food is quite good, it’s hit and miss, but mostly tasty compared to other places we have stayed. -We enjoyed the sit down breakfast at Oceana. The staff there was most consistent and food was always good! The manager at breakfast was always delightful! Cons: -Room location, after paying for a preferred room we were surprised that mostly our view was Breathless and delivery trucks in the back. We were disappointed as we normally love to sit on our balcony, but it was very loud next door and not peaceful to sit there. We tried to change our room right away and they told us it wasn’t possible. (Our non preferred friends had much nicer room views). -Very inconsistent service. For example, we would order drinks on the beach all morning, tipped well, and suddenly the server would disappear all afternoon. At the pool our plates piled up and nobody picked them up for a whole day. Our butler didn’t do a thing for us as far as reservations, we had to go to concierge and get them (along with several other preferred guests). We paid extra for preferred because other resorts made it worthwhile as our butler took care of reservations and other details, but not at this resort. -Our room was very inconsistently restocked each day. One day it would be and then two days in a row they wouldn’t restock snacks/drinks (and we did request it). I think there is potential for this resort to be SO amazing and 5 star, they just need consistent service and communication as it was lacking. They should have servers from Cap Cana or Akumal spend time training everyone and then it could be so much better!!!:)

The pros and cons of this hotel: The pros - The hotel is clean - The room is big and beautiful, the cleaning every day is good. - The beach is beautiful, but the huts need to be cleaned (pieces of plastic, straw, etc.). - The music (orchestra) is really good, it's a change from all the other hotels! The evening shows are of good quality - The fruit juices at breakfast were excellent compared to all the other hotels we've been to in the Punta Cana area - In general, we had good service, especially from the men in the restaurants and on the beach. However, the girls who are in charge of welcoming the restaurants seem more interested in talking to themselves than in taking care of the customers (this is especially true at the buffet). when you leave the buffet restaurant, there is not even a word... The - - It is a pity that the minibar service is not replenished every day... Even if you call reception. - It is not possible to make a reservation in the restaurants in the evening. So there is always a wait (45/1h) to get a table (for 2 people). We were told that it was because of the lack of staff in the kitchen and to serve... There are empty tables, but the kitchen can't keep up... - It is a pity that the buffet is not open every evening. - The food at the buffet is unfortunately not hot enough, just lukewarm... It was an ok stay, but we will not return.

We have been to many of the popular choice chains for all inclusives in DR, Mexico, Jamaica, Antigua… and we have to say that Secrets Tides has blown us away. Everything about this trip was perfect. The resort is beautifully laid out, we didn’t feel like it was too far of a walk from one of end to the other or to go to the restaurants. We spent most of our time at the beach. We stayed in a non preferred partial ocean view room, and it was impeccably clean and the housekeeping and room service were both wonderful. We enjoyed a private beachfront cabana with service and a cooler of drinks for a day and I would highly recommend this as a great add on to your stay. We ate at the Italian restaurant twice which was very good, the Barefoot Grill, food truck, Seaside Grill, Meraki, and the Mexican restaurant. The food is well above average. Thank you Secrets Tides staff for your amazing hospitality, we look forward seeing you again very soon.

The resort is beautiful. The service was great, especially Coral, Jorddy and Juan C at the Preferred Pool. The people working around the pool were very helpful moving umbrellas and making sure that there were towels available after a rain. Kelvin was always there to assist. Food was overall good. Surprisingly the steaks were always good and cooked to the correct temperature. We had one issue at Seaside, but John took it back instantly and brought us a new steak. Felix at the preferred bar makes an awesome Espresso Martini. Overall the staff always had smiles on their faces and worked to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Two negatives, they don't enforce the non smoking ban. People are walking around smoking. Also they need to put a clothes line in the shower to hang suits. We had a 4th floor room with no cover so we couldn't leave our swimsuits outside since it rained every night and there is nowhere to hang you suits inside.

Secrets Tides Punta Cana is very new, as it just opened in January 2024. The grounds and pools are beautiful, and the pools were the perfect temperature while we were there. There is a wide variety of food, so many options to meet any taste/style desired. Service for dinner at Tierra, El Patio, and Seaside Grill deserve special mention, as at these restaurants the entire team made for a seamless perfect dining experience. We failed to get everyone's names, but Diomedy was our waitress at Seaside. For the daily morning breakfast buffet, egg station cook, Manuel, did a great job preparing foods to order each day. Our room was ultra-modern with touch pad lighting, two waterfall shower heads, and all the amenities you could need. The bed and pillows were some of the most comfortable we've ever encountered. Our daytime housekeeper Silvia, and evening housekeepers Mariana and Noemi kept our room super clean for us both day and night. And Johnny and Anthony kept our mini-bar stocked to our preferences each day. Our butler Hedral did a great job checking in with us each day, helping us practice our Spanish, and assisting with various requests throughout our stay. The activity staff members at the resort are amazing, and there are so many different activities to choose from. We participated in Spanish lessons, water aerobics, yoga, candle making, necklace making, rum tasting, the cigar experience, macrame class, and more. All were fun, and a great way to meet other travelers. Kelvin, Colin, Yancarlo, Franklin, and Chico deserve special mention for their excellent Spanish lessons. The beach that the resort is set on is beautiful, with pretty sunrise views. It is a powdery white sand and you can walk for a couple miles in either direction. We were even able to swim in the ocean there several times during our week long stay. The beach security team does an amazing job of keeping track of people coming/going from Secrets, so it feels very secure. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are already planning to return again next winter! Tina & Kris

This is a one year old resort. It is well designed and the rooms have all the amenities including Smart TV and US networks. Housekeeping is good as is room service. The staff are all friendly and attentive. Tips are appreciated and expected. We had a non preferred swimup room for 12 days and though not heated, was relaxing. The resort is divided into Preferred and regular, preferred getting there own pool and beach area, and access to a restaurant for table service breakfast and top shelf drinks. We were offered this on check in for an extra $USD100 each per night. We opted not to upgrade. The restaurants are all mediocre with small portions and food quality not equal to the premium cost. Buffet is the only shining star. What is most annoying is the Universal Vacation Club employees placed every few feet in the lobby attempting to sell vacation packages. Not something I woul expect to see or appreciate. In summary, not returning and will return to Bahia Principe Ambar which is less expensive and higher quality.

We recently stayed at Secrets Tides in Punta Cana, and while the resort itself is beautiful and well-kept, our experience was a bit underwhelming overall. Let’s start with the positives: the resort is clean, and the grounds are well-maintained, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The staff is friendly and attentive, which always makes a stay more enjoyable. However, when it comes to the dining options, we were a bit disappointed. We’ve stayed at other Secrets resorts, and the food quality and variety there were far superior. At Secrets Tides, the restaurant menus were quite limited, and the food, unfortunately, didn’t live up to expectations. The meals were often bland, and we found ourselves wishing for the same level of culinary excellence we’ve experienced elsewhere in the Secrets chain. We also opted for the Preferred Club, paying an additional $200/day, and it honestly felt like a complete waste of money. The supposed “exclusive” perks didn’t live up to the price. The main draw of the Preferred Club was access to Oceana, a restaurant that’s supposed to be special but was a letdown compared to the other Secrets resorts we’ve stayed at. Additionally, the butler service was lackluster—there’s really no need for a butler when you don’t need reservations for the restaurants. The Preferred Club lounge was nice, but honestly, the Cocoa Cafe, which is open to everyone, offered better service and snacks, so the added cost didn’t feel justified. Lastly, while the Preferred Club offers access to a “preferred” beach and pool, it didn’t seem to be enforced. We found that anyone could use these areas, and there was no real distinction between Preferred and non-Preferred guests when it came to the beach or pool. In summary, while Secrets Tides has the foundation of a nice resort, it falls short in the dining department and doesn’t justify the extra cost of the Preferred Club. If you're used to the higher standards of other Secrets resorts, you might find this one a bit of a letdown.

This was our 6th Secrets resorts. For comparison, we like to stay at Sandals, Secrets, and Excellence resorts. Thank you to everyone that wrote reviews before we got there. I'd say most are spot on, both good and bad. I'd give it a 5* for the staff. They are all wonderful, and we love the DR culture. 99% of the employees went out of their way to make our trip wonderful. Truly great people we liked to talk to. The beach is great, and if you like walking the beach, this is a great resort. If you go right off the resort, you can go about 1/1.5 miles before you hit rocks, but can go forever if you left of the resort. Best swimming in the ocean is between Tides & Breathless; super calm. We had a preferred master suite, 3rd floor; lots of room, 2 bathrooms, and phenomenal views. Great having breakfast on the deck watching the sun rise. The lobby bar area is great before or after dinners and have the best bartenders; great gathering area to meet others/talk to bartenders. Gym was nice, but would imagine during busy hours it could get crowded. Wife loved the Tierra restaurant and eating in the "terrace by the tree", but her fish was severely undercooked and couldn't eat it. Pools were nice and long; bring floaties Hydrotherapy was great and relaxing Housekeeping was outstanding, no issues We'd give what we call the "Hyatt Effect" a 3*. Yes, you will have fun, and it's a lovely resort/beach, but we felt that other Secrets were much much better. It seems as if Hyatt has cheapened the experience compared to our other resorts. For example, almost every resort we've been to has had a poolside grill going where they served jerk chicken, fish, seafood, grilled veggies or something in those big pots. We were there for 7 days, and they didn't do it once. We didn't want to eat inside in the middle of the day, and love eating in our chairs or outside. Some other Secrets also have chefs that bring food to the pool deck for people to snack on. It felt like McDonalds food for lunch if you wanted to eat near the pools; Food truck is great idea, but it's all greasy food. Barefoot Grill is all grease. Who wants to go up to the lunch buffet to eat relatively healthy on vacation? Things we would suggest: Higher end shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/ lotion like Secrets used to have More bathrooms around the pools; they are located far away so I can't believe people are leaving the pool to go all the time Way understaffed pool bar service; we actually felt bad for one person trying to make drinks for 20-25 people waiting for drinks; give your people some help Have your managers follow up on questions; we asked one of the managers a question (white shirt with stars pool guy), and he said he would return with answer, but never did. Arrogant guy Have better lunch options or Dominican dishes near the pools; it's a hit at other resorts Don't say you're going to fix the "chair game" and don't do anything about it; saw several chairs taken, but not used or sit on until after noon or later; cheapens the experience for everyone People that stood out: Yenell @ Portofino Alberto our Butler Alberto & Olioalberto @ the lobby bar Felix & Yoihannia @ El Patio Colin, Daniel, and Jason with entertainment team Jordie & Juan @ preferred pool bar Estrubial & Jaondy who delivered morning breakfast to our room Basilo @ market cafe Lemuil @ Oceana Yesica @ pool bar Edwin @ pool concierge All of the maids - morning & turndown service Lorenzo the security guard (funny guy) If you go, you will have fun. Many great things about the resort. Are there better Secrets? Yes, definitely. They have a long ways to go and many things to clean up. I believe the managers at the resort have to have more training on how to manage their staffs. Seems like they (manager) are just doing enough to make people content and rely on the staff to make people happy. 5* people & location, but 3* "Hyatt Experience"; stay clear of the Blue Shirts

Outstanding. The installation is off the charts in cleanness, maintenance and modernism, but the iT factor is the service. The rapport the staff creates with the guests is rarely seen anywhere else I’ve been. Don't get me wrong, I’ve received good customer service, but this resort was absolutely above everywhere else. I wish I could remember the names of everyone who was very nice to our party but that is impossible. But I do have some unforgettable names: -Preferred Club Pool: Juan -Jordy, the servers, Coral, Zuleika, Vanessa, everyone. -Lobby Bar: Provi, Melissa and everyone else. -Restaurants: Ricky is the main name to remember since he was the person making sure our experience was the best possible. Heriberto at the Steak restaurant by the main pool. Other very honorable mentions, Julio Reyes and Miguel Febles. These gentlemen have very clear what an above and beyond customer service should be. We are profoundly grateful with the attention and we are already planning for our next trip there. Los Ocho'!

For context we have been to the DR 12 times having stayed at the Hyatt Zilara, Live Aqua, both Excellence resorts and Iberostar Grande as well as several Sandals properties across the Caribbean First impressions, liked the look of the resort which had a slightly more Caribbean feel than some of the new properties in the DR. It is far bigger and busier than we are used to but that aside it soon became one of our favourites. We stayed in a Preferred Clun Partial Ocean View rm 2357 and liked this location for close proximity to the pools, Oceana Restaurant and the small club lounge. It also got sunshine on the balcony in the late afternoon when we returned to our room. The room itself was large and clean and a special shout out to David & Jose who kept our mini bar stocked up with everything we requested on a daily basis. In particular we appreciated the separate fridge for white wine, small bottles of rum and Presidente. A big plus point of this resort is the padded loungers by the pools, so many 5 star resorts don’t have these anymore and it makes a huge difference when spending all day lying on them. You did have to get up pretty early to get top spots on the padded loungers but loungers were plentiful and you would never have a problem getting one. We spent our days by the preferred pool and were very well looked after by Gisela, Coral, Juan and Jjordy. We really liked having the small club lounge to pop to for a drink or a snack and service and quality of the drinks were excellent. We would also on occasion sit up at the preferred club bar which was entertaining and crikey they work so hard. And speaking of entertainment the team here did a great job and were very engaging and made the activities fun, we took Spanish lesson, played darts and bowls, bocce ball, ping pong and even aqua aerobics a first us despite watching others participate for 30 odd years The beach is great, you can take lovely long walks in either direction however the sea is a little rough The coffee shop was great and the ladies in there were lovely and again worked so hard We enjoyed breakfast at Oceana most mornings but the buffet was very good too, my one minor criticism is at lunchtimes you have two a la cart restaurants side by side both with identical menus and two fast foods again with identical menus all four restaurants offered burgers, only barefoot offered pizza and these weren’t the best. If you are going to have a preferred club lunch option for it to be a perk it should have a different menu to the seaside grill as over the 9 days we were there options were limited. One further minor criticism is the toiletries even in club rooms, not an issue to us as we brought our own but they were terrible for a 5 star resort So would we return, most definitely however we do intend to check out the W Punta Cana first

So it’s our last day here at Secrets Tides and I like to review the places we visit while it’s still fresh in my mind. First thing I want to say is that this property does not disappoint, it’s spectacular, BUT…..there is something very important that isn’t. The great: the service pretty much everywhere is amazing, everyone seems so happy and always with a smile. Jose, (Black Dolphin) the preferred pool concierge must be one of the kindest people we have met in a resort and goes out of his way to make you feel like family. This man should be the head of concierge as he’s a wonderful person, WELL DONE Jose! Jennifer at Coco Cafe is also a jem! She greets you with such a warm hola and always invites you back in the afternoons, what a lovely lady! Coco Cafe btw has to be the nicest coffee shops of any resort we have ever been to, bravo! Tons of hot and cold choices as well as a plethora of fresh pastries and sandwiches as well as a nicely stocked bar to add your baileys to your cappuccino! Make sure to tip the staff and you will likely get a pretty design crafted in your milkfoam. Jorge, aka Denzel 😜the butler ( not ours but helped us several times ) is also a jem, we will request him when we return! The lobby is also seamless here with a flow that invites you in the evenings to light music and a wonderful atmosphere with a lovely house band usually playing. We went to most of the shows and honestly it was hit or miss, The Rock Show as well as Queen were by far the best, and most of the others were just ok with the “Magic Show did a good job making an hour of your precious time disappear” so maybe just go to the sports bar instead and have some Cheese sticks and Poppers which were tasty! Felix, YA BABY, in the preferred lobby bar is THE BEST! Makes a killer old fashion! The beach is amazing, so clean and being on the point it is probably one of the largest and deepest we have experienced in the DR. We are here in March so there isn’t a lot of Seaweed but they groom it every morning with the tractor at 5:30 am. The pool guys, cleaning staff and grounds people, do a fantastic job of keeping common areas clean and ready for guests. Poolfront chairs are at a premium here so don’t sleep in and don’t try to “throw a towel or hat” and go back to bed as they have 6 or so security just focused on this, they won’t hesitate to bag your stuff and leave you a nice note. This is how it should be! Security also walks around a couple times a week with a Preferred guest list and makes sure you are in the correct area that you paid for. We did see them escort out a few couples as well as 3 single young girls. They seemed to do it nicely. The pools are so well designed with dark tiles that by mid morning I would guess the temperature in them is 90 degrees. Mornings were cooler but warmed up fast! The rooms, we were spoiled and have an oceanfront master suite so there’s tons of room for all your clothes. The rooms are beautifully decorated and central touch controls on the walls are a nice touch. The shower has a double rain head and is HUGE! You can probably fit 8 people in there ( although we never had more than 5 in it! 😜joke btw) The gym is well thought out with ample equipment and very new with a light atmosphere. We were not a fan of the swim outs here and didn’t think they were worth it as they seemed quite small and didn’t connect to any of the big pools or even have a way to access them from the grounds unless you wanted to crawl through a hedge. Good for a private honeymoon maybe but the pools are so nice you don’t need a swim up! Now for the tough stuff. There’s a few areas that need some maintenance already. Cracked and crumbling tiles in hallways as well as on some of the walkways by the pool are almost dangerous. The biggest problem here, THE FOOD. I do admit that we are a bit of a foodies but honestly we had a tough time having a “great dinner”. Now we didn’t eat a a couple places but it was consistently subpar for a resort of this caliber and I mean subpar. Almost every day breakfast dishes were cold so order omelettes made fresh and you might have a better experience. Lines were long around 9:30 am so maybe an earlier seating would be better. Portofinos which was highly recommended was terrible. I’ve never had Ravioli (was supposed to be braised beef) so empty and made with chewy pasta that might have been just boiled pizza dough. Just gross! The only place where we can say that we had decent food was at the Japanese, the sashimi and maki was decent and at the food truck @ the preferred pool bar. Yup, food truck, who would have thought that some of the better food came like this ( and this is a low standard as paying Secrets Prices for fries and burgers is a waste!) Preferred lunch at the preferred ocean lunch spot was terrible and has to be the # 1 reason that we don’t think preferred is worth it here. We ate there once and it was so bad we ended up choosing to just eat at the truck all week long. That being said the 2 people( sorry a guy and a girl, didn’t get there names )work so hard as the lineups get quite long. Now I do want to mention that management we talked to acknowledged that they have an issue and are taking serious steps to correct this. Let’s hope they do this quick!! We would love to return but the terrible dining experience most likely will make us think twice about spending this kind of money. Overall we think the good does outweigh the bad and if you don’t have high standards for your culinary experience and just want an incredibly beautiful resort, beach, pool and service this might be for you!

If you read a bad review for this resort, STOP RIGHT THERE !!! This is NOT POSSIBLE !!! Hyatt Secrets Tides is a brand new resort, beautiful, gardens and facilities are spotless, foods are wonderfull everywhere since the buffet thru the 6 restaurants. It is not a party resort, so if you are looking for crazy things, this is not the one for you. But you have nice activities and beautiful shows. Gym is well equipped, 2 nice hot jacuzzis, beautiful swimmings pools. Rooms are big and we got one with a private pool for 6 rooms: fantastic !!! We are a couple looking for a one week of relax and we are very happy to have chosen Hyatt Secrets Tides in Punta Cana. We are originally from Brazil, but we have been living in Orlando for 20 years. Beach is beautiful and the water is crystal clear. We had the option to pay US$89 to join the Preffered Club but we didn't do. We didn't see any big advantage. Another perk: airport is 45 min only !!! We used DAT transportation and it was good. But the best of the best in this resort is: THE PEOPLE who work there !!! Congratulations Hyatt to achieve this high quality of service and authentic smiles everywhere !!! ❤️ We would love to mention the ones we had the pleasure to meet during our stay: Concierge: Sara !! I had a luxation on my finger playing volleyball and I had to go to the hospital to cut my ring because of the swelling. She was checking on me many times. Very polite and nice. Doctor's office: Dr Luz !! She was fast to check, fill the paperwork and send me to the hospital, letting them know I was coming. Servers at restaurant and bars: Wencia and Abigail from Oceana: always polite and ready to accomodate special needs. We had a good conversation and learned about Donimican local life. They are precious !!! We also met Luis there and had a nice conversation. Leticia: she is a host buffet. Very kind and always welcomes us with a big smile. We had learned more things about life in Dominican Republic with her. Darlin a good mood barman always paying attention when our glass is almost empty !!! 😉 Jinny and Raimerly: housekeepers very polite and ready to help with a smile. Ecarlio: server at Meraki japanese restaurant. He was nice and ready to make us happy with a special drink order he made it happen: a sake caipirinha. Fast service with a smile. William: a nice bellman who nicely help us with our luggage and some spanish slangs. We laughed a lot together. Despite we speak spanish, some meanings could be trick and he teached us with his good mood. Portofino restaurant chef Geidil: he nicely came to our table to introduce himself, when he had an opportunity to say thanks for the wonderful meal and learned about his carreer. Very nice person.

We are UVC members and booked this resort as an opening special, otherwise may not have tried it out, and I’m so glad we did! It was our first visit to the Dominican Republic and first time having a butler available, which was lovely. Javier did an amazing job throughout the week! Beach - sand is fine and the water is clear. Waves are a little rough due to being on the Atlantic side of the Caribbean but we were still able to swim. We rented a cabana the last day and it was so worth it! Rooms - Resort is new, so everything was clean and operational. everything is electronic with the lighting and ceiling fan, which took some getting used to. Can sync your phone to the Bluetooth in the room, which is really handy. Our view was basically a tropical view, which meant we faced a service walkway covered by some greenery. Housekeeping missed us a few days, so we just requested a visit in the Hyatt app, and it was always taken care of. Minibar service was hit or miss. Pools - there are 3, all of which are lovely and have swim up bars. The “quiet” pool was our favorite, as it was the most laid back. The preferred pool is nice and has an infinity pool vibe but was always super loud and crowded during our stay and so we never went. Grounds - again, the resort has only been open a year and everything is modern and beautiful. Landscaping is well-maintained and there were people working on the grounds all the time. Food - hit or miss with both the food and the service. Breakfast buffet was amazing every day with lots of options. Tierra was my favorite food-wise but the service was very slow - we had been seated for 20 minutes before anyone came to greet us or get us drinks. The Asian restaurant was my least favorite. Coco Cafe was always a hit for coffee or a late night snack. Overall, would I return? Yep! But there are so many resorts to explore that I prefer to go to a different one every time.

Initially be prepared for the mayhem of Punta Cana airport and the scary ride to the hotel. 1 st impressions of the hotel were good, lovely design, large airy lobby area and wonderful grounds. On check in we were offered an upgrade to Preferred without telling us how much and then approached by one of the staff in blue whose aim was to get us to attend a sales pitch on some kind of timeshare or whatever it’s called these days. We managed to avoid this. We had booked a standard room. The view was of wasteland, which no doubt will soon house another hotel. The room was great with two large beds, double sinks and twin shower. We had a well stocked mini bar which was topped up most days. Be mindful that if you put any used crockery or uneaten food in the collection hatch it won’t be collected - we had stuff in there for nearly two weeks. Towel changes and room cleaning was great. It was impossible to properly shut the sliding doors to the wardrobe which meant that the internal lights were on day and night. The room felt damp and we filled 2 damprids in the wardrobe. The main area of concern is the restaurants and food. Menus looked great but food was generally not good. The restaurant experience was disappointing. Most evenings you could get a table straight away, occasionally you were given a pager and had a 10 - 20 minute wait. It seemed that Preferred customers might be jumping the queues. One night at Portofino we waited over an hour and basically had to pester staff to allow us in to the restaurant which was less than half full. Once sat down inevitability a waiter would introduce themselves saying they would be serving you for the evening. Generally you would never see them again and a multitude of staff with varying attitudes and capabilities would serve you. We ordered food that was then given to other diners, we were recommended steaks that were as tough as old boots, some food arrived cold. The food was nowhere near as nice as it should have been and not up to other Secrets hotels standard. We ate at the buffet for breakfast and this was generally acceptable. Another major disappointment was the options at lunch. The Food Truck at the back of the Preferred area provided junk food as did Barefoot Grill. You need to book for the hibachi table. We ate there one night and it was a fun experience with lots of nice food. Just a couple of points to question why do some guests take so much food and then not eat it and why are some people so noisy when dining? If I am sitting having an evening meal I don’t want to hear a table of guests shouting at each other. Drinks. At an all inclusive hotel you know you are going to be served low alcohol drinks. However you do expect the staff to be able to make drinks, particularly cocktails well and consistently. Drinks were never the same and sometimes undrinkable. Having said that we’ve never been to an all inclusive hotel on holiday and experienced so many drunken guests. Pools were great. We went between the main pool and the Manatees pool. Every day we got loungers with umbrellas. There is an inconsistent policy on removing belongings from where guests had reserved loungers. You were never quite sure if your stuff would be removed. The toilets (or restrooms) at the pools were well hidden and dark, damp and dismal affairs. The one at Manatees pool is a joke with a needless set of steps up only to immediately go down another set of steps. The toilets are inadequate and I’m sure led to a lot of urination in the pools. The entertainment staff worked quite hard with a full schedule of activities throughout the day. They did seem to have favourite activities though and sometimes something advertised didn’t happen. The evening entertainment, including the nights where there were buffets were good but if you are staying more than 1 week expect to see the same again. The 24 coffee bar with snacks is great. The staff are attentive and friendly.

Checked in around 11 in preferred area. No upgrade available as it was high season. Got keys around 3:30. Room was lovely-very clean and spacious with good lighting. Grounds were gorgeous. Beach was beautiful. Gym and spa were clean and nice. The hydrotherapy there was one of my favorites so far. I wish I knew the young lady’s name who directed us through both times. She was excellent at her job. Pools clean and refreshing. We had to try to stay away from smoke too many times, though. There are smoking areas that many respectfully used, but some didn’t. The chair saving game was strong as well. We talked to pool concierges about smoking problem and chair saving problem. If you weren’t there by 7am, you didn’t get a chair with cushion at pool. The staff said they knew those 2 things were problems, but when they confront customers they get mad at them. So training may need to take place still for this. They had signs that said pool doesn’t open until 8. No one respected it, so we too played the towel game, though we always had someone at the chairs. Concierge was Marienny, who checked in daily, and after finding out about our long wait for our first dinner and bad second dinner, started making reservations for us. She helped improve the overall experience. Bars: Jonathan was the best preferred pool bartender. Desire at preferred pool was good. The standout, greatest server at the preferred pool, however was Juliana. She hustled and made sure everyone was happy all the time. Felix at preferred bar up front was great. But Sujeidi at the Reef preferred bar was outstanding. For the price point of this resort we would never go back unless the food improves dramatically and the staff enforce the rules stated. There are too many cheaper options with better food and less frustration. Read on if you want to know about the restaurants. It’s a lot, I know, but want people to be prepared. Our group had one gluten allergy and one with dairy allergy. They say they accommodate for allergies, but staff aren’t really trained to deal with them yet. Most concerns are with the kitchen staff. Tierra- Maria served us twice and was amazing. This was our favorite restaurant. The food was new and interesting and we all found things we liked and were safe to eat. El Patio- Felix was fun, service was so slow though. We were there for 2 hours. Everyone’s apps were good. Shrimp aguachile, salad, though odd, cheese and cilantro empanada Loved beef tinga sope. Corn cream yummy but a little bland. Portofino was beyond disappointing. In the 2 1/2 hours it took from the time we sat down until the time we left, it just kept getting worse. We ordered quickly, as the restaurant wasn’t full. After about half an hour the apps came out. They were just fair- beef carpaccio was really vinegar heavy and the caprese salad looked impressive, but the cheese was runny and not very good. The arancini had sat too long. After we finished our apps it took another 30 minutes for soup to come out for the 2 that ordered it. Both liked it, but the minestrone had no noodles. Another 45 minutes or so passed and our food came out. I ordered gluten free penne with bolognese. The pasta noodle I bit into was crunchy-still raw! I signaled a waiter and explained the problem and told him gluten free noodles always take longer to cook than the directions say. He brought it back about 8 minutes later. This time the bowl was filled to the top with sauce. I took a bite and scalded my mouth as it was so hot…and the penne was still not cooked. At this point everyone else was finished eating their okay meals (the ossobucco being the best), so I let my bolognese cool and ate sauce for dinner. While we waited for dessert. The boys got dessert and finished it while the staff tried to hunt down sorbet for the girls. Finally the boys left and girls tried to but they assured us our sorbet was coming. We should have left too. Not a good experience at all. Seaside had really salty food. Hibachi - Saudi waited on us. Show was decent, food was okay, but super salty. Meraki - Mariana helped us. I don’t even remember what we ate at Meraki.
