When we booked this trip we were aware that we would have access to the adjacent Breathless resort. We were NOT aware however, that this Secrets was in reality, only a part of the larger Breathless resort, and not a stand alone property. We are UVC members and got a fairly good promotional rate, so I don't feel too cheated, but this is not your typical quality Secrets resort and you shouldn't be expecting a typical Secrets quality experience. Having said that, The Secrets Riviera Cancun is 142 rooms (all Preferred Club) that formerly was the "quiet" part of the Breathless Riviera Cancun. The Secrets section is really quiet lovely - classy, upscale, serene. However it only has one pool, one restaurant (Rosewater), one jacuzzi, and the Preferred Club lounge with bar. It also provides activities like water aerobics. wine tasting, dance lessons, etc., as well as poolside grill lunches. The infinity pool is beautiful, and the loungers had thick cushions. Music at the pool was pleasant, ranging from spa like to modern country to light rock. A couple of days we sat under palapas on the beach and watched the pelicans. The breeze was refreshing. No seaweed to speak of. The shoreline was rocky, so the ocean was not swimmable, but the beach was pleasant to walk on. We were never disappointed with the variety or quality of food at the Rosewater International Cafe. The menu was al a carte for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with outdoor seating, and musical entertainment at dinner several nights. You could theoretically spend your entire week at Secrets without ever venturing to the Breathless side of things. My husband wanted some variety, however, and wanted to see what Breathless was all about. A glass sliding door separates the two sections, and while Secrets guests have full access to Breathless, Breathless guests cannot access Secrets. The Breathless portion of the property has 3 more pools, 5 additional restaurants, the 24 hour coffee bar, the spa and fitness center, and the theater and nightclub. Stepping into Breathless was stepping into a different world. It was clearly and immediately noticeably a "step down" in overall quality. It was also significantly more crowded, rowdy and noisy. My husband and I are 70....I'd say the median age at Breathless was around 40, although there were clearly younger and older guests. They were all having a great time - loudly. During the day, the poolside music was electronica type - which I personally do not find to be relaxing or enjoyable. We saw private seating areas within the main pool that looked interesting, we learned later from another guest that you were not allowed to sit in them without purchasing a bottle of wine or champagne. The pool loungers had thin cushions, and the beach area was crowded. We tried most of the restaurants on the Breathless side and were disappointed every time. All but one did not have outdoor seating. The menu description usually sounded good, but what was served was usually off. Examples...the pork tenderloin was really more like a dried up pork chop covered in a horrendous brown gravy. The banana crepe was a dry pastry shell with a couple of banana slices tucked inside with a scoop of ice cream on the side. The chicken confit tortellini tasted like dry uncooked dough with a weird sauce. (In contrast, the chicken tortellini I had at Rosewater on the Secrets side was probably the best I've ever had - it was like an explosion of flavor in my mouth!)The beet salad with spinach and goat cheese had one piece of spinach and a smear of goat cheese (I think) on the plate underneath the salad greens. The tiramisu dessert was prepared at the table - 3 ladyfinger cookies were put on a plate, then espresso was poured over them, then some sort of whipped cream was spread on top. It tasted good, but it was NOT tiramisu. The Italian restaurant had no salad options on the menu, mostly pasta dishes. I was kind of desperate for protein and vegetables - ended up ordering chicken breast, mashed potatoes and asparagus. This was a strange offering in an Italian restaurant, but whatever. Also, when they say you get asparagus - you get one spear. As UVC members we were entitled to a complimentary hydrotherapy session at the spa. The spa and fitness center were located well away from the main action at Breathless - a little difficult to find. We took advantage of the hydrotherapy offer and it was excellent. We have only done hydrotherapy at one other Secrets (Maroma) and this one was better - we recommend doing it if you have the chance. Lastly, I read another review somewhere that said there was no entertainment or that no one told them what was going on. There was something going on every evening - theater shows, nightclub events, live music, etc. Make sure that you download the app that gives you all the daily activities, the entertainment schedule, the restaurant menus and dress codes, etc. If they don't tell you about the app at check in - insist.

It was great to have the different areas we could visit that were all the way from mellow and relaxing to crazy party time! We enjoyed great service in Preferred - especially from Daniel at the pool as well as Cruz, Juan and Adrien. We highly recommend Secrets Riviera!

We had a wonderful stay at Secrets for a trip to celebrate our engagement, and overall, there are many amazing things about the property. One of the staff members who made our trip was Luis at the Preferred Club Bar (works evenings). Everyone who has had the opportunity to be served by him leaves with a huge smile or, like us, finds themselves continuously returning for his special mixed drinks. Notes: The servers are generally attentive to your needs, but it is customary to tip. As with most resorts, there aren’t enough resort chairs, so you do have to wake up before 9:30 am to snag a spot. Though technically this isn’t allowed, everyone does it. For restaurants, we tried Picante, Hibachi (Silk City), Rosewater (lunch and dinner), and Spumante. I would personally say that Rosewater’s dinner was the best, followed by Spumante. Download Hyatt Inclusive Collection to be in the know - it’s your source of information. However, as a Secrets guest, sometimes you won’t see all the information on the activities at Breathless. So we didn’t know a paint and sip was happening one day, and because it wasn’t in the “today’s activities” section, we couldn’t sign up. Activity reservations for wine tastings and paint and sips go quickly, you have to sign up DAY OF, and fast with only the entertainment staff. You can download this app BEFORE your stay, and start to see the calendar, you can’t reserve anything. Reservations come out at midnight on the day of Hibachi. - You can only schedule room service delivery for breakfast earlier through the app, not the tablet in the room. The Magic Show and Inferno Fire show were terrific, if you can stay during those.  I think a few things could be improved: - The lack of reservations for all restaurants, except Hibachi (at Silk City), makes dining such a crapshoot that you’re constantly up in the air with your plans - We moved rooms on our second day, and our bags weren’t delivered for 4 hours. We continuously called the concierge/front desk and told them they would check on this, but they had valuable items, which we were forced to leave in our bags rather than walk around the resort for several hours with multiple computers, etc. Since we were switching rooms, couldn’t leave it in a safe… So for 4 hours+ we had no clothes other than the swimsuit + coverup we wore, and our phones. We also didn’t even have a tote bag to use because that wasn’t provided in our room (a small detail that was missed, but ended up being a huge pain that day). The staff weren’t the most helpful; the bellman even admitted when he delivered our bags, he only got the call a couple of minutes before, and my partner even went with my phone using Find My to try to track them down. - There needs to be clearer signage on the cabanas and notifications on reserving them, because multiple people were kicked off cabanas. We were lucky enough to snag a reservation and weren’t told when we needed to be there by (we almost missed the deadline; it’s noon). - Either remove the 30-minute chair reservation limit or find a way to enforce it. There’s always a shortage of resort chairs, and some people leave for hours and come back… - Irma Cairo, who checked us in, was lovely! However, some concierge staff need to be more attentive to detail. When a lot of small details start being missed, it adds up. We had an early morning and scheduled food to be delivered at 5:30 am. It was delivered early at 1 am with the doorbell being rung multiple times + knocking, waking us up. Then a phone call letting us know that it had been delivered. Great to be on top of it, but unfortunately not helpful when we were trying to get to bed early and needed food at 5:30 am. For a resort of this caliber, it would’ve been nice for them to acknowledge our reason for visit, and that we were celebrating. Luckily Irma made up for that. Our first room’s shower did not drain AT ALL. Yes, there is a function for submitting a maintenance request, but we got in late and were not supposed to submit a request at midnight. This seemed like something that would be picked up by housekeeping. - Interesting note, the showers have a slightly sea/fishy scent. We were wondering if they desalinate the sea water

My wife and I stayed here at the end of February. From start to finish, the trips was as great as we had hoped. Check in is in the Preferred Club lounge and while there was a bit of a wait, we were given drinks and snacks. Louis the Preferred Club bar tender is amazing! I put me on to my new go to drink: the Long Beach. A member of the entertainment staff, "Mr. Handsome" gave us a tour of hotel and took us to our room. We had an Ocean Front Swim Out and the room was perfect. The mattress was a bit firm for our taste but other than that the room was great. We used the app to put in a request for and extra lounger on the patio of the room and that was handled fast and efficiently. Turns out the regular chairs on the patio are also super comfy, especially for reading. The food is great. The tepanyaki was so good!! We actually went to the restaurant a second time and ordered the tepanyaki of the menu because we liked it so much. There can be a bit of wait but the food was so good. The steak and the steak place was great and the side vegetables were perfectly cooked. The buffet for breakfast was awesome. And the food at Rosewater is also quite good, the dinner selection seemed a bit limited. Room services offered a basic assortment but it was reasonably fast and tasted great. The Spa staff were great including manager Daniel, massage therapist Sonja and Raquel, attendant Ilran, and the pedicure staff. The highlight of the trip for us was the service from Charleyboy. He was a beach wait staff, but checked in with us at our swimout and brought us drinks regularly. Pros Food quality is great Service was attentive and prompt Room was super clean Spa was relaxing Cons The app is useful, but needs to be updated more regularly to match current menus and such. Food at Rosewater is great but it seems the lunch menu is much more expansive than the dinner menu The bed was a bit firm

The wait staff was very friendly and helpful We had Urbano Mar Cruz and Ariel as our pool waiters. Steven and Luis were our entertainment staff. They did a wonderful job with the entertainment!!All the staff were amazing and friendly and helpful. We would recommend Secrets!

We loved everything about this resort! Steven and Luis at the pool were fun and energetic! Luis at the preferred club bar was friendly, and his drinks were excellent! Overall, we had a great stay here. The resort is/was well maintained, the staff incredibly helpful, and the food at all the restaurants was great. The French and Mexican restaurants were my personal favorites. The staff is the shining stars of the resort - Mar, Nedel, Cruz, Steven, and Luis...

Overall, we had a great stay here. The resort is/was well maintained, the staff incredibly helpful, and the food at all the restaurants was great. The French and Mexican restaurants were my personal favorites. The staff is the shining stars of the resort - Mar, Nedel, Cruz, Steven, and Luis were some of our favorites. (Go see Luis in the preferred lounge for cocktails - you won't regret it.) They were so friendly, attentive, and were there to make sure we had a great time every single day. My biggest complaint about the resort is their WiFi/internet. It was often difficult just to try to use the Hyatt Inclusive app to check out restaurant menus, claim a Hibachi reservation, or to order room service. Even the staff struggled and had to move to other areas of the building just to get their POS system to work (ex. when trying to checkout or in the spa). The further you get from the lobby/main building, the worse the connection was. If you plan to try to work while here, or just want stable-ish internet, make sure you ask to stay in building #2 or #3. If you plan to spend your time at the Secrets pool only (where it's MUCH quieter than the other two Breathless pools), you need to be poolside to claim your chairs by 6:15/30am every day. Once you claim your chairs, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the sunrise on the beach. After sunrise, we'd grab breakfast, then come back to the pool and our chairs would still be waiting for us.

Luis and Steven are amazing at creating fun, interactive activities. Mar is the most amazing and helpful person. We loved how lively and attentive they all were. Everyone at the resort was lovely and we had an amazing time. The French restaurant was amazing.

We stayed on the Secrets side of this resort with access to the Breathless side. Having stayed at numerous Secrets Resorts in the past, we knew what to expect and we weren’t disappointed. The pool area was nice with lots of chairs nicely spaced apart. You didn’t feel like you were right next to other people. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful with the Entertainment Staff engaging with people. The party side is definitely Breathless. The servers we found who excelled in the pool area were Urbano and Daniel. Urbano was a highly attentive server who was pleasant and engaged with his guests. Daniel was extremely polite and attentive to his guests paying special attention to the rules ( he removed items from a “reserved” chair that had sat empty for 5 hours) and also removed patrons from Breathless side who were not allowed to be in the Secrets area. Not a pleasant job to have to do but he did what was expected and appreciated of him. The food was not as good as other Secrets we have been to but it wasn’t terrible either. Room service was accurate and efficient. All in all it was a great place to visit with attentive and good staff.

Gave 4 stars for the service staff. Luis, Urbano, Lino and Nedel to name a few, amazing service and great people. Food service at the Rosewater is extremely slow and the food is just OK and very inconsistent from one day to another. The best restaurant on the resort is the silk city, the Asian restaurant and hibachi. The preferred lounge and Luis was the highlight. The Italian restaurant is also good. Staff throughout the resort was very accommodating and very friendly. Unfortunately, the beach is not nice. We stuck to pool area at Secrets and our swim out which was very warm. We did not appreciate trying to be sold a timeshare upon arrival when we were tired and hungry. Also, when we advised the resort that our flight was cancelled, they did not advise us that they had a Sunwing rep on site, which would have been helpful. For a Secrets resort, we do not feel that it lived up to the standard, but it was still OK.

Daniel, Adria and Juan were the absolute best. They kept the place running at the pool and kept every guest happy and content. They were so pleasant and that is the reason we will come back. Please make sure they reward it for their loyalty and commitment to customer service.

My wife and I stayed at this resort for six nights and were were very happy with everything during our stay. The room was comfortable the patio overlooking the ocean was beautiful and the food was delicious. Unfortunately my wife took a fall our first night at the resort but the paramedics and in house doctor treated her with care and we were able to go about our vacation. The wait staff around the pool were very attentive and friendly. The pool entertainment was awesome with a variety of entertainers everything from a sax player, a violinist, synchronized swimmers and country music. The Rosewater restaurant was convenient and the food was delicious. We also dined at the Italian, Steakhouse, and the Asian restaurant. Unfortunately we were not able to get a table with a chef at the Asian restaurant and after taking to several other guests I believe that particular experience is a bonus for Hyatt members so don’t waste your time trying to get a reservation. You can however get a regular table. We were also turned away from the French restaurant because I was wearing golf shorts and not trousers. We did the complimentary shopping excursions which consisted of a forty five minute mandatory stop at an overpriced jewelry store and thirty minute mandatory stop at a tequila shop. Then you were dropped off in Playa Del Carmen for two hours. I do not recommend this experience. The pool is although beautiful, is small and all the lounge chairs are taken by 8 AM so send your early riser to claim your lounge chairs. We did not spend much time at Breathless other than the restaurants so I really cannot comment on that part of the resort. Overall we had a wonderful vacation. Go and enjoy you will not be disappointed

My husband and I came here for our 20th anniversary and it did not disappoint. The staff are all amazing and always willing to help out. Food wasn’t bad, typical for all inclusive…except for the Steakhouse, it was amazing! I didn’t give 5 stars for one reason, the beds are hard! Like so hard I woke up every morning with sore shoulders and a sore neck. Otherwise this place is great! Oh, we stayed on the Secrets side!

The Secrets resort was the best resort we’ve been to! It was a very relaxing stay with very fun activities scattered throughout. I highly recommend Luis (activities director) he was so much fun! And I recommend attending the tastings with Antonio. We had the best time.
