This place is absolutely wonderful! My husband and I came for a full well on our babymoon and we had never visited an all inclusive resort before. This was above and beyond our expectations. The weather was amazing the whole time we were here. From Day 1, our entire check in process was smooth and efficient. We were also part of the preferred club which is a nice addition to have as it has its own check in area and a place to stop by just before our hotel room. The staff in all areas was splendid and always warm. Our room had a beautiful balcony with a view of the ocean and even a hot tub outside! Every day had housekeeping and turndown service which was impeccable. Anytime you needed something, you could easily request on the app or the concierge downstairs. One of my favorite things about this place was the Entertainment Team! We played volleyball 2x a day and the staff was always so fun, especially Liz, Max, Gina and Alejandro. The entertainment team did a wonderful job with other events such as the Voice Akumal, Karaoke night on our last night and all other sporting activities. We brought our own snorkel gear which was well worth it. We didn’t get to see any turtles but sooo many fish! Turtles can be seen early in the morning but we didn’t get up early as we were so busy relaxing and enjoying our time. We also brought our own water shoes which was good as the water had lots of seaweed and rocks. Getting a chair with an umbrella can be tough sometimes on the beach or the pool but it’s doable! The restaurants we tried were good too! I was hesitant about food quality at an all inclusive resort but this one was pretty god. My favorite place was Himitsu (didn’t even do the Hibachi reservation) and Bordeaux, the French restaurant. There’s plenty of lunch options too but usually we ate from the outdoor grill they have by the pools every day from 12:30-2:30! Room service is also 24/7 along with Coco Cafe which had some sweet treats, drinks and little sandwiches. I hope to come back sometime again and bring other friends too as it had something for everyone! Next time I’ll be sure to try any excursions (just didn’t plan ahead this time and also 7 months pregnant!) but nonetheless we had such a wonderful time :)

My husband and I stayed at Secrets Akumal from March 8 – 15, 2025. We had an amazing vacation and would definitely return to this resort. We are also Unlimited Vacation club, non-preferred. I think it’s important to highlight what type of vacationers we are. I am a very active vacationer, I love being in the water, participating in the activities offered by the resort. My husband is happy to sit in a beach chair and read through 5-6 books while sipping on local beer and occasionally going in the ocean and pool. I am going to go through all the aspects of the resort/vacation in this review THE ROOM We were in room 9114, a junior suite swim out. The building is located at the back of the property. The room was huge (for my standards) Lots of drawers and space in the closet. The TV had several US channels and a few in Spanish. The bathroom had a very large jacuzzi tub (which I used for my wet gear). The walk in shower came with very nice large bottles of bergamont smelling shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. There was also lotion on the sink. I used all of these and they were good quality. I do think that the towels were a little rough/scratchy, I wish they had been softer, but I don’t typically encounter super soft towels at resorts. Housekeeping did a great job of replacing towels, making beds, and turn down service every day. My husband used the swim out pool almost every day, he would come back to the room early and hang out in the pool and read because it was out of the sun. The pool got direct sunlight during the day so by the late afternoon it was a comfortable temperature. THE PROPERTY This is one of the most beautiful properties I have been on, largely because there is so much wonderful landscaping. It feels like you are in a jungle. We saw raccoons, coati’s, snakes, iguanas, and several bird species. There are also a lot of little ponds with fish around the property. If you like taking a lot of nicely posed pictures, this property really provides a great opportunity for that as well. I have no sense of direction so it took me most of our time there to get the hang of which path was the most efficient way to get from our room to the beach and back, that being said if you are in a closer room, you may not experience that, but I encourage you to walk around and explore the property none-the-less. THE STAFF The staff are super friendly and helpful. They are courteous and will always ask if they can help you in any way. They are very formal, which is appreciated. Our Concierge was Jose, and he was awesome. I had a few questions throughout the stay and he was very prompt in getting me an answer. One day I asked him about getting postage stamps as a gift for a family member and he went on his day off and bought me stamps. That was above and beyond and I was very grateful. The entertainment staff blew me away with how friendly and engaging they were. The resort provides TONS of activities and I took full advantage. I want to highlight Carlos, Javier, Gina, Carla, Arantxa, Mayra, Octavio and Oliver for really making me feel very welcome and excited about the activities. Gina helped set up a doubles volleyball game with me, Octavio and Oliver, which was very thoughtful and I sincerely appreciated. They are some of the most dedicated activities staff I have encountered at a Hyatt property. I also give the entertainment staff a lot of credit because they walked around and encouraged the guests to participate, but didn’t make you feel bad if you didn’t want to, not an easy thing to round up participants. The service around the pool/beach areas was spot on. They were very attentive and often remembered what you drank from day to day so it felt like the staff really paid attention. THE FOOD I thought that the selection of food options at this resort was very strong and overall very well done. My husband commented that the ribeye steak at seaside grill was one of the best steaks he ever had. I thought the steak at Bordeaux was also really wonderful as well. The buffet had a great section highlighting Mexican cuisine so I tried chilaquiles and tamale. The fresh fruits and juices were also really refreshing. We really enjoyed the hibachi, I know those happen in a lot of places, but it was a great show and the food tasted wonderful as well. We also really appreciated all the food options at lunchtime around the pool as we typically didn’t want to change into dry clothes to eat. DAYTIME ENTERTAINMENT As I said before the staff were amazing, but the amount of different offerings was also quite amazing. They had activities about every 30 minutes to an hour. From Spanish lessons, aquafit, volleyball, “crazy games in the pool”, art activities, bracelet making, sushi lessons, there were TONS of ways to participate. There was also no pressure if you just wanted to relax. NIGHTTIME ENTERTAINMENT The nighttime entertainment came from outside companies and it was well rounded. There was a pirate show with fire performers, different dancing presentations, “The voice”, a beatles show. Afterwards there was dancing in the disco as well. Some of the shows happened with an outdoor dinner element which was pretty nice and the food selection was very good. BEACH AREA The sand was super soft, but there were some rocky areas so consider water shoes. This time of year there is a TON of sargassum, they shovel it into trucks and take it away. That happned mostly on the really windy days, which is also common for this time of year. Just be aware you will see a lot of seaweed. SEALIFE IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA I snorkeled once (because I dove 3 days) and there weren't a ton of fish in the swim area, but if you pay to go with a guide in the conservation areas, I was told you would see a lot of turtles. The most wildlife in the immediate area was towards the end of the resort by the buoy line, but you can't go past that because it is a protected area. We would definitely come back to Secrets Akumal in the future because the resort is very well rounded and has all the elements I enjoy in a vacation. I also appreciated that there was a dive shop up the beach and I felt very safe walking there. Thank you to everyone for making this such an excellent vacation for us!!!!

I won't bore you with a step by step review of this place because the other reviewers nailed it on the head. Secrets Akumal is by far and away the best all-inclusive resort I have ever been to. Our trip was the first trip in a very long time that I didn't feel like going home at the end. I can't say the service was above and beyond good because that would be deluding it. Every worker made you feel like you were the only person there. Everything that I requested was done without question or delay. When I needed a band-aid, they came with 5. When I needed to boost my electrolytes, they came with Power Aid. It is insane how good everybody is. The food was good. It's not the best I've had, but it's still very good. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be back here again

My wife and I celebrated our 10-year anniversary at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya, and it was phenomenal. The resort’s pristine beaches, infinity pools, and gourmet dining were top-notch, but our concierge, Billie, made it truly unforgettable. She helped us get upgraded us to the Presidential Suite with ocean views for our last night. It was perfect for our milestone. Billie also helped us book a private dinner in the wine cellar. Wow. It was the highlight of our trip. The sommelier recommended an amazing cabernet from Chile. Chef Joel met us and explained the courses we were about to enjoy. The food was fantastic, one of the best meals we have experienced. The arancini was top tier! We booked Preferred junior king swim out suite through Costco. This is truly the way to go. The preferred club bar in building 4 is a really nice touch if you enjoy a fine cocktail. Cruz and the guys served us very well. Amazing service! This was our second time at a Secrets resort (first was Wild Orchid in Jamaica). We will be back!

Best All-Inclusive we’ve stayed at. The activities were so much fun. The Snorkeling is fantastic. What makes it so special though is the staff. Everyone is extremely friendly and hard working. They made our experience what it was. Food and drinks were also great.

Secrets Akumal is a gem of a resort. Service is excellent. Food is awesome. And all the little extra touches are appreciated. We had a fabulous holiday. Carlos and Alejandro from the entertainment team were excellent guides on our turtle tour. They were professional and friendly and helpful. They made the tour fantastic. We saw lots of turtles. Leedy our concierge in building three was attentive, helpful, and always smiling. We felt we could ask her anything. Alejandro from beach services was quick to find us a beach seat and expertly got our beach lounge ready for us. He Always called us by name and was eager to help with anything. Sharon and Abrahim were wonderful beach servers and looked after us every day constantly coming around and asking us if we needed any drinks or water. Our room in building three had a beautiful patio that we sat in for sunset every night. We will be back!!! Thank you to the Secrets Akumal team!!! 🙏🙏

We just got back from Secrets Akumal. We had a great time. Alot of things to do and many choices for food. Special Shout out to Efren, our pool waiter, David, our pool concierge. They were always attentive and made sure we were ok. Carla kept the activities going and was always smiling. We stayed in building 9b, which was the furthest from the pools and beach. Our concierge was Ricardo who helped out with reservations and kept us updated on activities and shows. Will we go again? Yes!

Just back from a fabulous holiday at Secrets Akumal, a truly beautiful hotel with great staff. All the restaurants and bars, particularly the Lobby, were great and the Hibachi table is a must do for sure. A special mention to all the breakfast and lunch staff at the Seaside Grill, particularly Baltazar for his fantastic service and sense of humour. Jaime and his whole team at the grill made us incredibly welcome, they were both professional and friendly and the food was great too. Nothing was too much trouble, even my allergy to onion of all things. Thanks to our concierge Billie, and her colleagues, for helping with all our questions and requests. We spent most days at the middle pool being supplied drinks by the ever attentive Ishmail, whilst David kept everything in order and ensure everyone who needed a sunbed had one. A shout out to the landscaping team too as the grounds are beautiful by day and magical at night. We have stayed in several other Secrets resorts but this is now firmly our favourite.

This was our first visit to Akumal ; we visited Maroma in 2015 and 2016, and Playa Blanca in April 2024. Check in/out - super super easy. We arrived at 11am and went right to the preferred club to check in. They let us know to come back after 3pm for our room key and to go ahead and enjoy the property until then. Check out we completed on our last night so we didn’t have to worry about it the morning of our departure. Preferred club - didn’t feel especially worth it here. No preferred pool. The lounge was fine, had some snacks all day and books to borrow, board/card games. We had a PC ocean view king room 5309 and the “ocean view” was laughable. If I stretched on my tippy toes and squinted I could see a small speck of the ocean lol the included hydrotherapy circuit was really nice and we enjoyed that perk but we would not book PC again here. Pools - the towel/chair game is in full force here. Granted we went at high time, but by 745am there was not a single chair to be found at the front two pools. Concierge does their best and will remove belongings if left 40+ mins before 10am… but I can’t imagine being a guest here and getting told “sorry, nowhere to sit.” We saw people setting their belongings on the ground because they just had no choice. Otherwise, pools were nice overall. Amazing service by the pool - special mention to David the concierge who always helped us get set up for the day, and our fav waiter Samuel who truly made our week. He was so kind and worked incredibly hard every day. Beach - if you like long walks on the beach, this may not be the resort for you. Not very far to go either direction. Obviously close proximity to the snorkeling. We set up a snorkel tour with Chino on the beach and it was really nice to be able to walk over and do that versus having to do a transfer. We also saw many fish and some rays right in front of the hotel. We booked a Bali bed on our last day as it was our anniversary. The service was okay - we had more attentive service at the pool than our Bali bed. Food - the food was so good. We really had zero complaints. We ate at Himitsu (regular menu), AkuMart food stations, Portofino, Seaside for both lunch & dinner, and Market Cafe every day for breakfast. Himitsu is our fav every resort, so good! Rooms - rooms were nice. Nothing super special. Housekeeping was great and we declined turn down service because it just didn’t work with our evening schedule. We didn’t mind though. Grounds - very very very lush and lots of paths to get lost in haha we just always enjoyed the scenery and eventually found where we needed to go. LOTS of wildlife!! Iguanas and raccoons everywhere. If I had to complain about one thing… we traveled here for our 10th anniversary and mentioned it to our e-concierge, preferred club check in, building concierge, etc and absolutely ZERO was done for that. Previous secrets visits they’d decorate the room, a special dessert at dinner, etc. and we were a little let down that nothing was done to help us celebrate. We enjoyed our visit and it was right for the price. We preferred Playa Blanca but wouldn’t hesitate to return to Akumal since PB has been priced ridiculously high. The staff here were absolutely amazing and everyone was so hard working. They truly made our week!

Our Concierge Karina has made our trip very special and handled EVERY request quickly and professionally. The staff is very upbeat , polite and ready to help. The Facilities , Rooms and grounds are meticulously maintained. The Food is Excellent. It has been a pleasure to enjoy this experience.

Arrived March 17-24. Had another amazing vacation. Check in was flawless . Karina ( building concierge) was attentive and super awesome! Rooms are spacious with lots of storage. First few days at the pool, staff was taking down room #'s and names (that's changed since we were there last) and told someone had to be at our chairs at all times. Then they were giving us 10 min away. Finally due to circumstances they gave us 40mins to eat then be back. Like I said that's something new. Probably someone abusing the lounge chairs. Shout-out to the pool concierges David and Antonio for their kindness and always making sure everyone had fun. Pool waiters Abraham, Karla and Fillipe for remembering our drinks and swiftness in getting them there! The bartenders at the snack bar Jorge and Mario for always making sure we had the best of the best! Beach waiter Hector (AKA The protector) you are the best and irreplaceable! The entertainment team was truly motivating and I absolutely loved Lizbeth. Can't wait to see everyone again in September ❤️

Overall, the resort is beautifully kept and shows promise with moments of brilliance, but falls short of a truly world-class experience. The top-tier service from some staff members is occasionally undermined by subpar dining and sporadic service lapses. Potential for improvement exists with more consistent training and culinary refinement. Recommendation: Needs some work to truly deliver a five-star diamond experience.

He went above and beyond every day to make our experience memorable. He was constantly attentive to us and every guest at the pool. We would come back just to have the hospitality experience here with David. If he could travel everywhere with us, that would be a dream!!!! My husband and I did a week vacation here and have nothing but good things to say! The food was absolutely amazing, the staff was very intentional and accommodating, everything was timeless and clean, just a wonderful atmosphere overall. Diana was our concierge and was so cheery every time we walked past her desk, eager to help us in anyway she could! I got a relaxing massage at the spa by Michelle and my experience was worth every penny! Liz, Carla, and Gina from the entertainment staff were so fun and engaging! It always amazes me how well they remember our names and keep us involved in many fun activities like a pool spin class which I would highly recommend and they were a riot at the silent disco! Carla ended up chatting with us by the pool for a while one day and just the fact she took the time to answer our random questions about tourism and Mexican culture was so sweet! Richardo, Israel made sure we never went thirsty all week. Often I would tell Richardo he could make whatever drink he felt like and I was never disappointed! He remembered that I didn't like drinks too sweet from the first day I said it and always made something amazing! He is a talented mixologist! David was often checking on us by the pool and making sure we had everything we needed and more! He would even bring fresh towels for us while we were in the pool and adjust our umbrella for shade without us even asking! He went absolutely above and beyond. Out of our 5 different all inclusive experiences at various resorts this was the best thanks to the great staff and food!

From the moment you enter the gate from the main road- you already get a true sense of a 5* resort… you pull up to a georgeous lobby, greeted by bellman- given a refreshing towel and drink. Because we booked a room in the preferred area wisk you away in a golf cart to check in at a separate preferred lounge. They have a bar and hors d’oeuvres there as you begin the check-in process . After the check-in process, they do have some sales pitch. A sales person come up to you and try to convince you to go on a two hour breakfast and tour of the resort as a timeshare sell. thankfully, we read from other reviews at this will happen so we were able to quickly diffuse it And say no politely. This i feel they can do without. It is a bit tacky I feel. Another person walked us up to our ocean view suite. Corner room on the 3rd floor. Great view!! We had great weather for the four out of five days we were here. The beach was absolutely beautiful. The snorkeling was great right off the beach very little sargassum. The typical having to wake up at the crack of dawn to get a decent Palapa on the beach, which is annoying but I guess all inclusive places have no control over that by about nine or 10 AM pretty much every seat at the pools were also taken as it was a very busy week 3rd week of March. The staff at this resort, truly do care and make sure you are comfortable in every way possible from delivering food and drinks to getting an umbrella. Wow they are amazing to say the least. The food has also been unbelievable from the restaurants to the barbecues to the à la carte buffets all amazing. Definitely highly recommend if you want to go and rest, unwind, and be pampered., This is truly the place.
