Sandals Montego Bay is where the Sandals story began, and it remains a favorite for couples who want a lively, beachfront honeymoon with classic Jamaican energy. Set along the island’s north coast just minutes from Sangster International Airport (MBJ), this adults-only, all-inclusive resort is known for its expansive private beach, upbeat atmosphere, and “right-on-the-water” views from many rooms, restaurants, and social spaces.

Important note: Sandals Montego Bay is temporarily closed and is scheduled to reopen May 30, 2026. If you’re planning travel before that date, consider another Sandals resort in Jamaica and return to Montego Bay after reopening.

For couples who love variety, Sandals Montego Bay also offers convenient exchange access with nearby Sandals Royal Caribbean via resort shuttles on select days and hours. It’s an easy way to add a second resort’s restaurants, bars, and vibe to your honeymoon—without changing hotels.

Sandals Montego Bay has also earned major industry recognition, including multiple wins as Jamaica’s Leading Resort in the World Travel Awards (including 2018–2024). This long-running track record reinforces what honeymooners love most here: a prime location, a signature beach, and a resort layout that keeps you close to the ocean from sunrise to late-night music.

Beach & Water

Beach lovers come here for one standout reason: Sandals Montego Bay places Jamaica’s largest private white-sand beach right outside your door. The shoreline is wide, bright, and spacious, making it easy to find a quiet spot for lounging, reading, or a long walk—while still having plenty of action nearby when you’re in the mood.

The calm, clear water and offshore reef areas create excellent conditions for snorkeling and scuba diving for certified divers, both included as part of the all-inclusive experience. If you want to mix romance with a little adrenaline, you’ll also find a strong lineup of water activities like paddleboarding, kayaking, and more.

Pools

When you want a break from the sand, Sandals Montego Bay offers seven pools and three whirlpools, so you can choose your mood—social pool time with music and cocktails, or a quieter dip to cool off between beach sessions.

For a deeper reset, the resort’s wellness facilities include steam rooms and a sauna, perfect after a day in the sun or after joining in on water and land sports. It’s a simple but effective honeymoon routine: beach in the morning, pool in the afternoon, whirlpool before dinner.

Unique Features

Sandals Montego Bay is especially appealing for couples who want modern beachfront accommodations and resort features that feel “only in the Caribbean.” Select Beachfront Swim-up Suites create a seamless indoor-outdoor experience, letting you step from your room into the water whenever the mood strikes. Many accommodations also include a Tranquility Soaking Tub for two on a private patio or balcony, which is ideal for slow evenings with ocean breezes and a nightcap.

One of the resort’s most memorable features is the overwater bar, where you can sip cocktails with panoramic sea views and watch planes glide in the distance—an iconic Montego Bay moment. For couples planning a destination wedding, the resort also offers an Overwater Chapel with a glass aisle and 360-degree water views, designed to create a true “walking on water” ceremony experience (available for an additional cost).

Romantic Elements

Romance at Sandals Montego Bay comes from the combination of a big, beautiful beach and plenty of ways to slow down together. Reserve a private beach cabana for a “no plans, just us” day, or schedule couples treatments at the Red Lane Spa when you want to fully unwind.

For an easy, unforgettable date night, a private candlelight dinner for two can be arranged on the beach, in the garden, or even on your terrace (additional cost). After dinner, you can keep things low-key with a stroll under the stars, or lean into the resort’s lively side with evening entertainment and music.

7 Day Itinerary at Sandals Montego Bay

Day 1: Settle in & have your first taste of Caribbean rum

There are three international airports in Jamaica: Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital city, and the Ian Fleming International Airport in picturesque Ocho Rios. For your stay at Sandals Montego Bay, you’ll want to fly into the Sangester International Airport in Montego Bay. Sandals has airport pick up options for guests, and depending on which type of room you book, it may even be complimentary!

Enjoy a cocktail upon arrival and settle into your suite before dining at one of Sandals’ 12 on-site restaurants this evening.

Day 2: Book a massage, explore the property, and relax by the pool

Feeling sore from the travel day? Head to Red Lane Spa to book an afternoon massage or spa service. Spend the morning relaxing by one of the property’s 7 pools and exploring the grounds of Sandals Montego Bay. There are tennis courts, several pools and whirlpools, and numerous gardens to check out. Oh, and the beach!

Want to dine in one of the fine dining restaurants this evening or the next? Don’t forget to grab a reservation!

Day 3: Enjoy some watersports on the beach

Craving a little adventure after a day of R&R? Head down to the beach to enjoy complimentary Sandals watersports, such as kayaking and paddleboarding. Soak up the sun on the beach under an umbrella, and be sure to order a pina colada (or two!).

Day 4: Explore the best of Jamaica’s countryside

Head out into Jamaica’s countryside today on a full-day excursion! Our team recommended a few options above. Depending on the activity level you are looking for, there is ATVing, rafting, swimming in waterfalls, and so much more.

Want to see the best of Montego Bay? Book an afternoon catamaran tour with snorkeling and drinks!

Day 5: Soak up the sun at Sandals

After a full-day excursion yesterday, you’re probably craving some more relaxation. The resort offers several land activities, including tennis and shuffleboard. After your morning coffee and breakfast buffet, maybe explore the beach area a bit more or relax by the pool. Booked a swim-up room suite or a room with a signature Tranquility Soaking Tub? Use it! Perhaps tonight you dine at one of the included restaurants that don’t require reservations, such as Soy Sushi Bar.

Day 6: Explore some more

If you opted for one of the off-the-beaten path excursions earlier on during your honeymoon, now is the time to hop on a catamaran around Montego Bay! On the contrary, if you already enjoyed a snorkel cruise, head into the jungle!

Pro-tip: Before you leave for the excursion, swing into one of the nicer restaurants to secure an evening restaurant for your last special night. Butch’s Steakhouse would be our recommendation if you haven’t dined there yet!

Day 7: Travel day

Enjoy one last breakfast buffet or morning room service (complete with coffee by the pool), before enjoying a final walk around the property. Travel from Sandals to the airport for your flight home to close out your dream honeymoon.

Sandals Montego Bay Packing Guide

For your honeymoon in Jamaica, the most important thing you’ll need to pack is a passport! Not only is Jamaica a Caribbean island, it is an independent country.

Also be sure to pack 3-4 dinner outfits that would fit the resort evening attire dress code at some of Sandals Montego Bay restaurants. Additionally, pack essentials for several hours in the sun, including 2-3 swimsuits, a cover up, beach shorts, sunscreen, and a hat. For your excursions into the jungle or visits to the tennis court, you’ll need a pair of sneakers and some athleisure clothing. Additionally, pack 5-6 t-shirts, 2 pairs of PJs, sandals, closed-toe or heeled shoes for the nicer restaurants, and finally, toiletries (although many of the Sandals bathrooms will provide the basics for honeymooners).
