Royalton CHIC Punta Cana

Older, but calm and beautiful resort. Lots of chairs by the pool. Food is delicious at all of the restaurants. Service was excellent - everyone is very friendly and helpful. Beach was rough, but nice to walk. Yoga class by the pool at 8am with Mr Chely felt great.

My husband and I visited in February 2025. We have vacationed all over the Carribean, including Jamaica, Aruba, Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya, BVI, and the Bahamas. This was my first time to the Dominican, and my husband's second time there. We stayed in Room 2104 which is a Diamond Club swimout room. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would give it 3.5-4 stars out of 5 stars. We were Diamond Club members, but feel this place is a diamond in the rough. It could be so much better with the right maintenance! Here's our honest review: What We LOVED: * The location of our room... it was perfect for people watching. We faced the "party pool" where the volleyball games, foam party, and other activities are. We never felt like we were missing out anything. The servers from Munchies constantly took our orders and made sure our drinks were full. * Our room itself was beautiful. The king size bed was super comfortable, the linens were clean and soft, and the pillows were comfortable. Our toilet was in a separate room so we didn't need to worry about privacy issues. Our shower featured a rain showerhead and a handheld shower head and was large enough for both of us to fit comfortably in there. We spent most of our time in our swim out. The pool water was warm. We loved having our chaise lounge chairs in the water and appreciated the patio seating that was out of the sun. * Breakfast at Hunter's Steakhouse every morning. This is ONLY for Diamond Club members, but soooo worth it. We did the regular breakfast buffet one time out of our stay and it was no wear near as good as Hunter's. Hunter's offers special juice smoothies every morning that I loved, and there french toast was super yummy. * Dinner at Vespa was out of this world. You MUST try the lasagna and fried mozzarella. OMG! * Dinner at Tandori was amazing too. The butter chicken and the chicken tikka were prepared and cooked perfectly. * The Diamond Club beach bar had the most delicious taco salads and chicken wings. We got lunch there just about every day. It doesn't hurt that the bar features a beautiful view of the ocean too. * Our massages at the spa were out of this world. Worth the time and money! We were able to negotiate the price of our massages to less than half of the original cost. As Diamond Club members, we were able to also use the hydrotherapy spa during our stay as well. I feel like this is a perk that they don't really let you know about. * We also joined the foam party both times it was offered during our stay and had a blast meeting people! * The nightly entertainment was overall very good with the exception of two of the nights during our stay when it was a singer who was covering a lot of old music that just wasn't our jam. Here's What Could Improve: Basic Maintenance at this resort. Our room, while beautiful, was not without its flaws... - The toilet paper holder was not attached correctly and was coming off the wall. Something as simple as using wall anchors when installing it could have easily fixed that. - The shampoo bottle provided by the resort was not mounted correctly and fell one evening which scared the heck out of us. It turned out it was attached by duct tape. - Our closet light was on constantly; it wouldn't shut off. Thank God I brought an eye mask! - The telephone in our room didn't work correctly. You had to use the speakerphone button to make calls. - Our jacuzzi tub was not fastened well to the floor and rocked when we got in it. It made it difficult for us to get in and out of it safely. - There was a faint musty smell in the room. Luckily we brought Damprid with us which helped suck some of the moisture out of the air and control the musty smell. - The safety latch on our doorframe was broken. - Our patio slider was missing handles on the outside which made it near impossible to open the door from the patio to get into the room. We had to wedge our fingers in the seam to push the doors open. They were heavy doors and didn't move easily in the track. Putting handles on the door would alleviate this nuisance!!! Other areas of improvement: - The Mermaid Pool is in desperate need of repairs. The bridge that goes over the pool is rotted and falling apart. Someone will fall through it if they don't fix it soon. - It was uncomfortable being approached by the "hotel concierge" who wanted to see if we were Royalton members and get us to attend one of their timeshare presentations. These concierge members are located strategically in each building so that visitors have to walk right by them each day. - It was also annoying to be approached by a few pushy locals who were selling things at the resort. I understand they are trying to make a living, but I feel like there should be a dedicated space at the resort that isn't in the main area. To go to dinner, we had to pass them each day. - I feel like the resort could do better about keeping vendors on the beach away from customers. We tried to relax by the beach one day and were hounded by several vendors. It was uncomfortable. We ended up going back to our room and not using the beach the rest of our stay. I have heard that this is much worse at other DR resorts, but I thought I'd share our experience anyway. - At night, we were bored when the nightly entertainment show was over. It became monotonous. It was always a "disco night" at the sports bar. Of the six nights we were there, one of the nights was karaoke, and we did enjoy that. Tips: * Bring Damprid bags- it's worth the hassle! * Bring a water bottle of your own. They will refill them, and the ice lasts longer. * Don't drink any tap water. Ask for extra bottled water. Use it for drinking and for brushing your teeth. * Choose a room in advance. Book it online using a COMPUTER. As of now, it doesn't work using the app or from a mobile device. * If you have a butler, be clear from the very beginning about what you expect. We had to ask her for everything (set up our dinner reservations, get us a bottle of liquor that was supposed to come with the room, etc.). She was very nice. I asked her about decorating our room with rose petals, and she surprised us one night with rose petals on the jacuzzi and had filled it up with bubbles. It was such a great surprise! Life is what you make of it. We decided to meet people and have fun. If you go to this resort with that mindset, then you will be fine.

The most disappointing part here is they treat you like garbage unless you pay for their "club membership". I have status with Marriott so would expect the normal Marriott treatment that I am supposed to receive. Nope, if you dont pay for their extra club then you basically dont exist. Need a tooth brush delivered the same day? Don't count on it unless you paid for the club. Sat through a presentation to receive a free massage and it ended up being only a 25 minute one. The presentation was supposed to be 20 minutes and lasted over 2 hours.

We asked for milk for coffee and 3 days later, we finally received it after asking further 4 times! Staff friendly but not what you would expect in a 5 star hotel. After all, it's OK to stay but not what expected.

We visited Royalton Chic Punta Cana the first week in March. It was our first time in the Dominican and this resort did not disappoint. We were in a diamond club swim up room. It was absolutely beautiful. The food and drinks were great. A big thank you to German and Carlos from the beach grill as well as Billy Joel from the Diamond Club. These 3 made our trip outstanding. They went above and beyond every day to take care of us. We would also like to recognize Fermin, Angel, and the chefs at the beach grill. They were amazing too. While the resort was beautiful, these people made our trip so much better. We will be back because of them.

We had a great time! 4 couples went 3 from Canada and 1 from UK, we all upgraded to Diamond Club and a swim out room which I totally recommend! Our room was great and LOVED the swim out part! The food was good and great variety. My fav was the sushi restaurant and Italian. The staff was AMAZING especially German!! Lovely Jubbly!! He made sure we always had chairs saved for our group on the private beach and attended to our every need! Thanks German! We also LOVED Freily who was just as amazing and so much fun. Nightly entertainment was good and the foam pool party was so much fricken fun!! We liked the fact that it was a smaller resort and it was a 2 min walk from the beach to our room! It never seemed crowded there which was great! Highly recommend this resort upgrade to Diamond Club and find German he’s awesome!

Yes we could see the ocean but when it is so noisy in your room ( with the door closed) that your I watch keeps giving loud noise warnings, there is an issue. The resort was clean although run down. The food in the buffet and restaurants was typical resort food. The only really positive part of our stay was our butler Lowarkis. He went above and beyond for us. That being said we would not consider returning to this resort

Our room was not ready for 30min upon check in. When we arrived to our room the t.v was on the floor so we returned to the lobby and sat around waiting. Was told there was no other rooms so had to return to same room. 40 min later they moved us to a different room that stunk with mold and was very humid. Finally the next day they gave us another room that was not terrible. Buffet food could be a lot better and public washrooms were not the cleanest. Shout out to Angel King though who was super nice and helped us out with anything we needed.

We love Lisette and we tried to go to all her morning classes even though we had to set an alarm everyday to wake up early in order to make to her classes. She is easy to talk you and train us really well. We really appreciate all her work and we'll definitely miss her when we go back.

Although there are definitely some things I’d love to change, overall I’d say this has been one of our best experiences at a Punta Cana resort. Our arrival was a bit confusing—concierge had trouble with our room reservations. There was no welcome drink (no big deal). We initially didn’t get the rooms we had requested months ago. This meant having to pack up and move on our second day there. The couple we were with (family) had issues with getting into their room more than twice. Other negatives: * upkeep — many areas that could be updated, bathrooms with rust in corners, top of mini fridge was very dirty * when room was refreshed, we were not provided with more fridge items, face cloths, towels, etc * more beach rules re:vendors — we were bombarded with vendors every day…worst resort yet for this * more attention to allergies is needed: after stating the allergy, we found that a few items would have nuts on or in it * maybe more assertive waiters, etc so that noisy and drunk guests didn’t ruin other people’s experience Neutral: there is a very slight moldy smell in parts of the resort, but it is impossible to get away from that. This is, after all, the south. We didn’t care about the smell, and actually kind of liked it! Positives: * staff were, for the most part, wonderful — very friendly, helpful * almost all our meals were great: restaurants and buffet 1. Hunter’s: pretty great steak, sides were good, service was wonderful 2. Vespa: an Italian vibe, lasagna is wonderful, as were the gnocchi 3. Pescari: as the title suggests, seafood was the main item here… we shared some sushi,ceviche, all good 4. Tandori: again, as the name suggests, this restaurant focuses on Indian food. They were great. We ordered numerous items and they were all great. Ambiance was perfect. 5. Elements, buffet: always fresh, awesome variety, great quality, one of our faves I cannot review any of the other 2 places because I didn’t partake. These are pay per guest, on top of your inclusive price. Insomnia is a great coffee/ice cream/cookie set-up. They also have flavoured ice water. More variety would be good. Our first Royalton 2 years ago had a great variety of goodies. Munchies is a great little snack bar in the pool area. The best hamburgers and fries. Excite is a lounge, with pool table, etc. We didn’t partake. Room service was superb, both the service and the food. They make a mean Caesar salad. Nightly entertainment could use some freshening up. As well, more signage to advertise what events were happening. Nonetheless, we enjoyed it, even dancing, which we never do. There are 3 pools, which were busy but never overcrowded. Nice, warm water. The place was very clean overall. The beach and pools were cleaned nightly. The ocean is fierce. Be careful. There were yellow flags up during our time there. Many people still went in, regardless of the recent swimming deaths not far from our resort. There were police scouring the area, and helicopters, looking for the missing. Yes, people come and ‘reserve’ beach loungers early in the morning, but staff here are pretty vigilant about removing items from chairs if they hadn’t come back in an hour. We always found loungers, some having to be moved, etc and usually we had a palapa for cover. Heat was extreme (for a Canadian), but there was a beautiful breeze coming in from the ocean, so you only really felt it when you were around the pools, or walking outside near the villas. We didn’t have a butler, and we’re not lacking in service. They have a concierge at every villa all day long, so when you’re on your way out, you can get arrangements made, etc without needing to find someone. I felt like they basically were like butlers. We found this set-up to be really advantageous for lots of reasons. Other resorts should take heed, because it works well. All in all, a wonderful trip. We will be back.

We just arrived home from a week at the Royalton Chic and had a great time. We did upgrade to the diamond club, which is something that I would recommend at this hotel. Our upgrade came with a butler (Billy Joel) who made our stay so relaxing, he handled everything from dinner reservations to extra towels in our room personally. He welcomed us as soon as we arrived and checked in a few times a day to ensure we had everything that we needed. It was also my birthday, and he took it upon himself to decorate the room and our door which was a nice touch. When we return, I will defiantly be requesting that he is our butler again! The location of our room... it was perfect for an ocean view – we stayed in room 1203. We were able to see a few weddings on the beach. The room was cleaned daily, and the fridge restocked, we were in the diamond club, but I did hear that in the “regular rooms” the didn’t experience this service. The food we really enjoyed, this was one of the only all-inclusive resorts that didn’t limit how many times you could go to a restaurant in the evening. So, we were able to try them all then return to the ones that we really enjoyed. The Italian and the steakhouse where the 2 that we went back to, we were also able to get good dinner reservation times. Although, speaking to other guest that weren’t part of the diamond club they were only offered late dinner times. This resort attracts people from across the world, and we meet some wonderful people who made our trip that much better. Things we didn’t enjoy! We were approached on our first day by the "hotel concierge" who was seated at the entrance of the diamond club rooms. He wanted to see if we were Royalton/ Marriott members and tried to get us to attend one of their timeshare presentations. He was quite pushy for the first few days until we politely declined. After that when we walked by, he wouldn’t even look up from his phone the rest of our stay. Not that we needed the concierge because we had Billy, but it was a bit uncomfortable to walk by, he was only there until 4 so we would wait until he left for the day to go back to our room. If you didn’t wake up before 6am you didn’t get a chair pool side with an umbrella which is key because there isn’t any shade around the pool all day. There aren’t enough umbrellas for people/lawn chairs, and daily we watched other guest complain to security if people “saved” there seats early and didn’t return by 8am. We also got to see hotel staff moving umbrellas around after people complained which made the vibe around the pool uncomfortable when guest returned to there seats to find the umbrella, they have woken up early to reserve gone. At night, after the shows there isn’t much to do, however the sports bar and there magnificent, bartended Manual kept us entertained with mixing drinks and suspiring us every time we ordered something. We would go back! Hopefully they will have the umbrella issues sorted by then!
