A fabulous hotel. Should be a 4*. Very pleasant and efficient staff. Beautiful design to make the most of the pool and city views. Tasteful decor. Quality furnishings. Large and comfortable bed. Fabulous, large, clean pool. We did miss the convenience of having a poolside bar for drinks and snacks, however, you can still use the pool phones to ring through to the (top floor) bar and order. And delivery comes within 10 minutes. Food and drink fantastic. And top notch breakfast selection. Would love to return. Highly recommend.

We stayed at the Royal Sun for a week in July to celebrate my partner's birthday. We had family staying at the hotel too and it was just perfect. Its views overlooking the bay and the old harbour were magnificent. The pool was huge and very well maintained, with bar service providing food and cocktails when required. The rooms were a little dated but well appointed, with a large private terrasse to watch those magical sunsets, bliss! What makes the hotel so special is the team and the care management takes in making each stay a memorable one. The front office team (Maria, Nikolas and especially Nota) were always on hand to greet us with a smile, help us plan our days, book the free shuttle service linking the hotel to the city centre (so no one had to drive down and could enjoy a drink or two without having to worry who will drive back). Emil, the main driver, was very nice and helpful too. The restaurant, located on its top floor with breathtaking views of the bay, was just amazing. We had breakfast included and again the team there was just fab, especially the hostess who was always on hand and super smiley. We also had dinner on three occasions at the restaurant, different ambiance at night, with dimmed lights etc. and a great menu with fantastic desserts. Upon departure we received a great farewell from the team and even little gifts from the hotel management (honey ointment produced locally). We couldn't fault it, we highly recommend this hotel and hope to come back one day - efcharisto!

From our arrival to the moment we left, the teams here at Royal Sun wish to make your stay the most wonderful. Friendly, warm welcoming faces in a cosy modern atmosphere make it very easy to enjoy your holiday here.
We stayed for 10 nights and the hotel is a fantastic base from which to explore the most beautiful, magical island of Crete. They offer car hire, but we had already booked ours. However, their rates are competitive and well worth considering.
We booked a standard double garden room. It had all we could need. We didn’t require any holiday as we intended to be exploring each day, and it served us well. The rooms were always clean, fresh and well serviced. Any issue with the room was swiftly dealt with and without inconvenience. In addition, we hired pool towels at €10 each and could be exchanged at reception every 2 days.
Breakfast was a delight! Lots of local food and dishes to try. Sofia was a beautiful addition to our mornings and explained breakfast items and how they would traditionally be eaten. I love to learn traditional foods and how they would be served, so her input was welcomed! Chef was working hard in the background…..but don’t forget to say good morning and thank you!! It’s hard work catering for us :)
We chose to take the reception teams guidance and booked a fabulous tour with Uncharted Escapes. We did their Wine and Olives tour. Fabulous team and fabulous tour! We cannot recommend it enough!
The restaurant was open for guests and always with a warm welcome. One piece of advice….don't eat like a Brit, eat like a Greek! We ordered way too much one evening but enjoyed our food immensely. The restaurant is open to external guests in the evenings so look to book should you wish to dine, although if you just wanted a cocktail whilst the sun sets they will find you a table. Oh my goodness…the sun sets from here are just breathtaking.
The pool is lovely. There are a few sun loungers in a shaded area and there are phones to call to the bar for poolside service. We used the sun loungers out in the sun and it was very relaxing and hot.
I’m sure this has been complimented on many a review but the complimentary shuttle to and from Chania is just the most perfect addition to Royal Sun’s hospitality. You book in a time slot to and from town at reception.
All in all, we had a fabulous time at the Royal Sun, we already cannot wait to go back!

The standard of this hotel belies its 3 star rating. This hotel is truly a gem. To some, the location being away from the old town may be an issue, but don’t let it be, there’s a regular, prompt, reliable shuttle bus service to and from Old Town. The staff are incredible, super friendly, and nothing is too much trouble, going about their work with a smile on their faces. The Pool is excellent with a fantastic view across the city. The restaurant too has this same view. We were staying bed and breakfast and the quality and choice on offer was superb. We also had a snack there one afternoon and that too was excellent. The rooms are clean with good modern facilities. Ours (rear terrace room) was a little small but we knew that when we booked and it wasn’t an issue as we didn’t expect to spend much time in there. This hotel has been recommended to us and we could see immediately why once we were there, we can’t wait to return!

Liked it so much 2 years ago, we returned again this year. The hotel is located overlooking Chania so you have the most wonderful views at any time of day or night. We are in our 60's & want a peaceful place to stay with cosy clean rooms & comfy bed. This ticks all the boxes. We met others in the over 50's age category who also felt the same.
The staff are just excellent - very helpful all the time & are very hard working. The breakfast area is well stocked with lovely seating and again you can enjoy the views. We ate in the restaurant/bar area one evening also and were very pleased with our experience. The pool area is just a joyful experience and the beds outside comfy with plenty of shaded areas. Staff will bring you drinks or food to the area also.
The shuttle bus service runs morning to late at night with one break but again this is really helpful so you can save your walking for the downtown area. Its quite a hilly walk otherwise and not pleasant in high heat conditions or would not recommend late at night either. We didn't use the laundry facilities as only stayed a week but glad to know they were there. The balcony area is lovely outside the room. OK its not a huge room but its good enough for 2 people & has a little fridge also. Bathroom small but shower really good.
Wardrobe space is tight - that is the only area I would suggest improvement in & they could consider a few hooks on the wall to even hang somethings. We used the clothes line area on the balcony which was quite sturdy and could hang some trousers over that to save on some space. I would certainly stay here again whenever we come back to Chania as it totally suits our requirements.

An absolutely fabulous hotel, from the location, to the service, to the food. Everything was exceptional, and we had a wonderful stay. So much so, we have already booked to stay again in October.
We upgraded our room on the day to something slightly larger, which gave us ample space for two and a terrace overlooking the pool. There is a huge amount of storage space, really comfortable bed and pillows, and an amazing view of Chania and beyond.
The service is impeccable, the reception team went out of their way to make it an unforgettable experience.
The breakfast buffet is very good, with a huge range of fruit, cereals, hot items, cold items, and local produce. There is all so an omelette station daily.
A bonus to staying here is the free shuttle bus to and from the town centre.
If you’re into that kind of thing, there is a decent sized gym with treadmills, rowing machines, bikes, and weights. The only downside to the gym is the lack of towels, water machine, and anti-bacterial wipes.
Would highly recommend this hotel.

Hotels are always hard to upkeep in all areas. This one does it really well. Brilliant massive pool and outside areas. The staff are fantastic, all of them!
Great bar service, room service, pool service and restaurant service. Good food , drinks and wine and a great free bus service to and from Chania Centre.
Breakfast is brilliant! Fresh juice and massive choice of foods.
We book here most times we come to Chania, stunning view over Chania if you don't mind the occasional barking dog nearby!

The hotel is situated above Chania with stunning views in all directions with a fabulous pool. Serviced by a shuttle bus into Chania centre ideal for exploring the city. I don’t understand why this is classed as a 3 star hotel - minimum it should be is at least a 4. The hotel is spotless including the rooms which have slippers, shampoo and soap provided. The towels are changed everyday and pool towels are available. Staff are friendly and go above and beyond their role especially Nickolas on reception, Yannis the shuttle bus driver and the lady at breakfast signing us in, sorry I forgot to get her name. The breakfast selection is amazing with fresh fruit, no tins in sight! There is something for everyone including gluten free bread. We have every intention of returning to this hotel since our experience was first class.
