We had been there 5 years ago when not we a 5 star hotel, based on our Las visit May be a 2 at best. We checked in for a 4 night stay and we were in a total of 4 rooms. The first had mold in the bathtub/shower area, the others they gave us were not clean and full of dust and dirt. We contacted our travel agent and advised her when we got back we were going to discuss compensation. Well it took September, October, November and until December 31st to settle. By the way during our check in I asked the from desk what had changed to make the hotel go down so far inn the past t years. The response was " you do not expect me to answer you do you?" Answer received and understood. God by to the 3 missing stars.

We read reviews about hotel, and went prepared to be shocked. But, the room was comfortable, spacious and quiet.. just the way we requested. We were in double executive room with balcony overlooking the pool. The bathroom had a shower and bathtub. All the little goodies like shower cap , soap bars , shower gel, shampoo, conditioner moisturiser were provided. Our room was cleaned daily and we got fresh towels everyday. The Breakfast is on the roof top. Lovely view of city and Acropolis. As some people pointed out on cold plates and cold breakfast, it has all changed! The rooftop restaurant was covered and it was nice and cosy. Clever use of mirrors though! Breakfast staff was courteous. We got a good variety of breakfast. The only thing we missed is a kettle in the room and they joined two single beds together to make a double bed. Also, there was one charging point and that was nowhere near bed. So we used the tv plug for charging. The location of the hotel is ideal and alk the najor attractions ate a few walks away. Overall we had a relaxing stay!

The hotel is located a moderate walk from the Acropolis and a very short walk from the Plaka. I cannot imagine a better location for most visitors to Athens. It appears that the hotel caters to numerous tour groups; our group of 78 stayed for a total of four nights. The included (and very extensive) breakfast buffet is in the rooftop restaurant, which overlooks the Acropolis. There is also a rooftop bar and the restaurant serves dinner, but we ate in local restaurants during our visit. My first impression of the room was to recall my grandmother's house from the 1960s - same smell, similar furnishings, very dated. If you need to use more than one electrical outlet, you'll be unplugging the TV and the floor lamp. We charged our phones in rotation, since we needed one outlet to support a CPAP during the night. The outlet that services the floor lamp did not work after midnight (apparently there's some sort of timer), and most of the lamps were hard-wired into the wall. It did not appear to us that room temperature could be adjusted by the occupants, but it was comfortable enough during our visit. On the bright side, the beds were extremely comfortable, the hotel was quiet at night, the room was large by European standards, and the large bathroom had a combination tub/shower. Elevators are small and there can be a wait if a large group is trying to use them. Front desk service was efficient and professional.

We traveled as a party of 2 without our kids in June for the first time to celebrate our anniversary and splurged on the Double Athenian Panorama Room. Wow, the wall of windows that overlooked the Temple of Zues was breathtaking day and night. The room was very spacious and clean. It had a very comfortable bed, a sofa and seating area, a desk area, a large wardrobe, robes and slippers, a large marble bathroom with a luxurious double tub (which I’d never seen before), and a flat screen tv. It was perfect for our 3-night getaway in Athens. It was convenient to all the central sites, as we did a self-guided 12-hour walking tour and never needed a taxi. The breakfast included was good and the rooftop terrace restaurant was quiet and convenient. The staff were pleasant and helpful when we needed them, which we really didn’t except for a transfer to the airport. We didn’t try room service or the pool so we can’t comment on those amenities. We got everything we paid for regarding our accommodation here and couldn’t be more pleased. A great value. We’d stay in this room again in a heartbeat!

This hotel was our end of cruise accommodation. When we arrived we thought we had won a watch- the foyer was opulent! Unfortunately we arrived at 9am from the ship but couldn’t check in till 3pm and not a minute earlier! While waiting we went to the bar for a tea( a bag in a cup) and a coffee (smallest of cups) which was €11.50 With the 5 star foyer and the 5 star price for tea we were eager to see our room. Unfortunately the 5 star ended at the foyer. Our ‘Executive’ room was like something out of the arc (and I don’t mean antique). The room wasn’t even the standard of a Travel Lodge. There were no tea/ coffee making facilities in the room and no hand soap in the bathroom. The hairdryer was the type you get in American motels- attached to the wall so you can’t steal them! The beds had a sheet and a blanket/ throw which looked like it had been there since the hotel opened. The only storage for two people was a small wardrobe and two tiny drawers. Breakfast had plenty of choice- if you like cold food & I mean hot food that is cold. The hot food was at very best look warm. Even when we went for the start of service the food was cold as the containers were open and the burners didn’t seem to be lit. Added to this the plates had obviously sat out all night so they were freezing which meant even look warm food was instantly cold. Coffee was, unlike for other reviewers, in plentiful supply and it was hot. Staff: The check in staff were curt and almost dismissive, the evening reception staff were very friendly. The breakfast staff were rushed off their feet but were helpful and friendly.

There are only 2 plugs in a large suite and neither are near the bed. We have to plug our phones in across the room to charge. Also, our room had a large bathroom with a HUGE tub, BUT NO SHOWER. Don’t know if all rooms are like this but very inconvenient for getting ready for dinner

I armed myself reading reviews before we went and was therefore prepared for everything/the worst. There were no surprises, only positive ones! Firstly, the very positives: Location - you cannot beat it. Really central. Views from breakfast buffet/top floor: Possibly the best in Athens. Size of hotel: Huge and decent sized rooms too. The pool area is also really nice and atmospheric with shade and sun alike. To the rooms: They are very old-worldy (I loved ours. Had read many, many negative reviews but was happy.) Our room (not internal, i.e. had windows) was a decent size and, dare I say it, nicely appointed. It had a safe and wardrobe space. It also had a bathtub and proper old-fashioned miniatures. It was also cleaned every day without you having to request it and miniatures were restocked in full. What was not so good was the shower - straight out of 1972, plus there wasn't always hot water. Also not great - the use of blankets on the bed as opposed to duvets. The toilet upon flushing sounded like armed artillery. Breakfast buffet: I found the staff to be nice (unlike reviews suggested) and I always got coffee fast although the choice of food wasn't as good as in other 5 star hotels. Reception staff - brisk, efficient, cool, not very welcoming at all (the reviews had warned me.) But then they have to check in hordes of coach visitors daily. This place is busy! On the whole I would recommend this if you can overlook the outdated shower, bedsheets, noisy toilet and brisk reception staff.

Very disappointed with this hotel- while the foyer is fabulous our room was outdated and not very clean. The staff were not friendly. At breakfast the main manager shouted at staff and it was very uncomfortable watching this. Many people wanted to sit out on the terrace but were refused as it had been raining the night before- some customers were happy to sit on the seats without cushions but this seemed to infuriate the manager even more. Won’t be back and definitely do not recommend.

Having read some of the reviews I was about to cancel and go elsewhere but we decided to make our own minds up. Some of the reviewers must have stayed in a different hotel to us as the positives outweighed the negatives. The location of the hotel was perfect as within 5 minutes we could walk to all the restaurants etc in the old town and it was an easy walk to the main sites. The entrance area is impressive in fact, all the public rooms are. The bedrooms are a little dated but comfortable and classic in a traditional way. Our 'Executive' room (read standard), was spacious and very clean and we had a small balcony which overlooked the pool and the traffic but we found this balcony facility a bonus on the sixth floor. The shower however was horrendous with a flimsy shower curtain that stuck to you and a hose pipe shower that had a mind of its own! Breakfast on the top floor was disappointing as the hot food was cold and the cold food not of a particularly good quality Th second morning we only had coffee and orange juice and passed on the food. The setting is lovely however and we had no problem getting a table at 9.45am. One night we sat on the terrace of the bar overlooking the Parthenon and it was stunning with perfect lighting and reasonably priced wine - this, as well as the location were probably the highlights. All in all, we had a very good two nights' visit and whereas I wouldn't rush back it suited our purposes and was far removed from some of the very critical reviews that have been posted.

As far from a five star hotel I've ever stayed in. Truly awful
Compare to the Boglerhof in Austria or the Bayerischerhof in Munich and the Royal wouldn't get one star. We complained about the awful room and got a better one but the service, the food, the facilities were very poor. Even the TV didn't work!
A AVOIDABLE PROPERTY AMIDST VARIOUS AVAILABLE OPTIONS

First, the positives. The location is very good and the world famous heritage site : THE ACROPOLICS is visible from the roof top restaurant. The house keeping staff were very prompt and efficient. Stayed at this property for 05 nights. Sleep quality was alright however this so called 5 star property is situated right on the road and can only be compared to a 3 star property in India. In fact majority of the so called over hyped 5 star rated property in Europe are only comparable to 3 star hotels in India in terms of facilities provided, location and services. Hence guest must do in depth study before booking. These properties don't even offer a glass of water to guest as a welcome drink , what to talk of providing complimentary Drinking water or provision of tea or coffee maker . On checking in the room , when I reported to the reception that we were having Luke warm water instead of hot water in the shower, the young girl at the reception made a ridiculous remark that ,Sir we are not charging you for water so let the tap run for some time and hot water will come. I was shocked at the reply and wanted to remind the young lady that I am conscious world citizen, and want to save the water for her generation. The breakfast timings were from 7 to 10 am whereas all the long distance tour coaches leave between 7 and 0730h in the morning , so when we requested for packed Breakfast at 0700h as we had to leave at 0705h in the morning, we were told that we will have to pay Euro 15/- per B/fast extra which appeared highly unreasonable, hence we had to forgo our complimentary B/fast. The hotel must ensure that the B/fast timings are from 0630h at least , in order to cater for those leaving for Full day long tours outside Athens city. During our 05 nights stay , in spite of my best effort , I was unable to find a alternate access to the roof top restaurant. With only one lift leading to the roof top Restaurant, it takes minimum 15 minutes for guest staying in between floors to reach the top for B/fast. We wanted to use staircase but was unable to locate. This was simply unacceptable and I urge the management to have a serious look at this arrangement. Also there is no dressing mirror in the rooms. The decorative lights in the toilet is not adequate for shaving as the illumination is less hence, a functional bright light be provided. Lastly, Let me tell the guest that , in the vicinity there are a number of hotels of various star category and the ACROPOLICS is visble from most of them hence try and choose other options at much cheaper rates. Over all rating AVERAGE.

This hotel is in a fantastic location for reaching the Parthenon and surrounding restaurants. Literally less than a ten minute walk. We booked a panoramic suite as a special treat and while the view of Zeus’s temple is great - the room is old world style and could do with an update but it was clean and comfortable. There are not enough plugs and none by the bed. There is a room bar and the prices were ok actually. Room service is available but at a charge. Slippers and dressing gowns are provided. There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room. Breakfast was good and varied, and it is served in the rooftop restaurant/bar. The best bit in our opinion. The view is amazing. We tried to get a seat at the rooftop bar in the evening but none were available. No assistance was offered to us to obtain seating although other guests arriving after us were offered assistance and did get seating. While the hotel certainly is lovely, our personal experience was one of unfriendliness and a feeling of not being welcome. A far different experience to anything we have experienced in the Greek islands. The best staff were the doormen so thank you to them. We would recommend the hotel purely on its location. We pre-booked a guided tour to the Parthenon and museum which was fantastic using get your guide.

Amazing views, great location but the beds are awful basically 2 singles pushed together with zero effort to make as one. I rarely complain but i was looking forward to breakfast but its the worst we have had in Europe, zero options we will eat out tomorrow morning.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience celebrating our 70th birthdays at the Royal Olympic Hotel in Athens during August of 2024. We booked one of the Athenian Panorama Rooms for four nights and it was one of the highlights of our trip! It could not have been more perfect. We wanted a hotel that was special and unique. Everything is as it appears in the photos if not even better. Our huge picture window ( & the room’s huge reflective mirror) viewed The Temple of the Olympian Zeus! The rooftop restaurant is outdoors & beautiful on it’s own - but then to be able to look at Acropolis Hill and the Parthenon - especially at night - it’s like magic! We both agreed we could not have picked a more perfect place to stay! The reception desk was wonderful. Door men always available, and ready to help. Elevator was steps from our door and we could easily get upstairs to the restaurant for breakfast or dinner, no problem at all. Room was so clean, cool, and perfect, and location! location! location! This was our first time in Athens and we picked the hotel because it looked like we could walk to everything and we did! -Although I do not suggest walking up Lucabettus Hill in the summer heat - although we did that too. UGH. My mistake. Wear good walking shoes!!!! A lot of sidewalks are slippery. If you don’t want to walk take an Uber in Athens. They are so reasonable! If we ever find ourselves back in Athens we know for sure that this is where we would want to stay. 100% recommend. I think if you read bad comments the people were having a bad day and brought it with them. Or they picked a room without a view. I don’t know. We had no complaints whatsoever!

A/C was on coolest setting but room was hot. They did offer to move us, but only 2 nights left and all unpacked. Asked for wash clothes 2nd day but never got them. Shower extremely small and lack of door seal caused floor to be covered with water. The staff for most part was nice tho. Friends in other part of building with no balcony said rooms were nice, so maybe just some of the balcony rooms are bad.

The rooms were not renovated since the greek empire, tv without a signal, minibar out of function. They took the furniture from my dead greatgrandmother, also the first toilet ever inventer and put it in a 5 star hotel. Staff is so rude that we almost had a phisical coincodence, calling me a f***ing tourist for sitting in a bar thats supposed to be working but their hospitality decided it shouldnt work at that moment. Not a hello, goodbye, thank you for the whole trip and for the end, i asked for a blanket because extra is not provided, first they said sorry no but then somebody came to our room and threw it at me. This f***ing place should get a sanitary inspection and people should get fired
