Had a quick one night stay but The Charles left an impression! Small touches stood out as unique. Cold champagne bottles and chocolate covered strawberries sitting near the elevators Coffee Tea and snacks in the morning by the elevators The bellman who was waiting (unprompted) at the lobby elevators to grab our bags when we left at 7am The friendly check in associate who walked us up to the room (although not unique, this practice is happening less and less at upscale city hotels) These were some of the small things that are not happening anymore at many other comparable 5 star hotels Now to the standard stuff (sorry it’s short, we only were there 16 hours or so) Rooms - spacious, new, clean, well appointed with a powerful rain shower. Service - outstanding Gym/Spa - not enough time to use Restaurant - Breakfast included and looked excellent but did not have time Overall - next time in Munich, only staying here

This hotel is absolutely fabulous. We spent 5 nights during the holiday season and could not have been happier. Everyone on staff is kind, welcoming, and helpful. The hotel itself is gorgeous. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Amenities are good quality. Breakfast is amazing. I highly suggest booking it with your stay or paying for it per day. The breakfast spread is truly impressive and their hours are quite reasonable for any traveler. We are looking to come back in the summer months and will definitely stay here once we return.

Everything I adore about this gorgeous city is embodied in The Charles Hotel - sophistication, incredible food, refined charm, gilded design and that quintessential luxurious yet cosy German hospitality. I honestly rate this hotel 10/10. It’s simply exquisite and full of magical moments. We stayed at The Charles Hotel for 7 nights over the Christmas period. Everything about the Hotel, its location, staff and our room was great. What let the whole visit down was the presentation of "cold food" on two occasions. The first issue was on our first night my wife ordered the ravioli (pumpkin) . This was presented cold with cold sauce and on a cold plate. This was brought to the attention of the Restaurant staff and it was replaced and presented as it should have been the second time. I continued to eat my dinner or it also would have been cold. The second night we thought we would try the Bar Menu. My wife ordered the soup and I ordered a Cheese and ham toastie which came with chips in a bowl and salad. The soup was presented in a cold bowl and the soup was cold. My Toastie and chips were also cold. Yet again the staff agreed and the soup was replaced and in a hot bowl. We were informed by staff that there were some problems in the kitchen! On Christmas Day we had booked the Christmas set menu for dinner that evening. We approached this with some trepidation!! The food on this occasion was to a high standard and well presented , however the wait between each course was 20 minutes plus! I had the menu with wine, a big mistake!,not due to the quality of the wine, it was good, but the amount poured and the timing with each course. We don't usually drink champagne preferring Prosecco, we were informed that the hotel had run out by the waiter providing the wine. When we got to the desert course we were missed out as they worked around the restaurant as they had done with the other courses. We waited but in the end had to call a waiter over! The whole meal took almost 4 hours, most of which was us just waiting for food. If returning to Munich we would stay at The Charles Hotel again, however unless it was proven to have improved in the Kitchen and the presentation of the food had vastly improved we would probably only have breakfast, which was Good. To finish on a positive the staff are excellent.

We stayed for a week during Christmas. This is an excellent hotel, close to old town and the railway station, beautiful accommodation, comfortable bed, lovely bathroom and very friendly staff. Breakfast was also very impressive. However there was a problem with the restaurant which does need to be sorted out. We eat in the restaurant the first night, my Pumpkin pasta was freezing, we complained they agreed and the second serving was much better. Another night we thought we would try the bar food, again the food was freezing, they agreed and it was replaced. On both occasions there were many apologies and when the right food came it did taste good. Before we had arrived we had already booked the Christmas Eve set menu and when time came we attended but with trepidation !!! Again problems, while the food was very tasty it was lukewarm warm and the delay between each course was over 20 mins just sitting waiting. My husband had the accompanying wine which was very small portions and given directly after plate collections so with the long delay the wine had been drunk before you got the course to match it. The whole event lasted from 1830 till 2300 mostly just waiting. Very disappointing indeed. We would stay in this hotel again but would not use the restaurant except for breakfast.

We visited Munich for the first time in early December, 2024. This was our first Christmas Markets trip. We enjoyed an excellent stay at this wonderful hotel. The location is an easy walk into the Old City…but also close proximity to the train station for side trips. The accommodations were first class. We were very impressed with the entire staff. Everyone was both friendly and helpful. In particular, the bartender, Christopher, was excellent. He may be the best bartender I’ve ever had- which is saying a lot! He clearly took a lot of pride in his work- and was fun to talk to. However, all of the servers in the restaurant were so friendly and attentive. Breakfast was delightful event every morning. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a high end/luxury experience in Bavaria!

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Our room was so quiet--we were able to sleep in until 9am and I even slept until 10:30 one morning--that never happens for me. The bed was too comfortable, it really made it difficult for us to get moving and do all the sight seeing we wanted to do. The bathroom was lovely--nice large tub and beautiful shower. Housekeeping was excellent. The bar was fun and had excellent cocktails. When we return to Munich this is where we will stay.

My wife and myself just returned from a 3nights stay at The Charles Hotel in Munich. We both agree, that this stay exceeded our expectations. We stayed in a Deluxe Park View room on the 07th floor and the views from the room were amazing. ( see sunrise picture ). The room was spacious, it was impeccably clean and equipped with the latest technology. We loved the bathroom amenities – super cool fragrances. The bed was super comfortable. The breakfast buffet offered a huge spread and the quality of products used was of very high quality. We loved the fresh berry smoothie. One of the highlights of our stay was the daily visit to the pool, spa area, which offered a perfect way to unwind after a day of sightseeing and shopping in Munich. The hotels is very centrally located and the major tourist sights and shopping areas are a casual 10 mins walk from the hotel. All the staff we interacted with were very polite, knowledgeable and they addressed us by name, which made us feel very special. We highly recommend The Charles Hotel in Munich and are planning to return next year. Kudos to the General Manager Mr. Steinmeier and his team. Well done !!

Five star hotel in every way!
This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Everything, from the room to the staff, was top-notch. We literally cannot think of anything that can be improved upon. When we return to Munich, this will be the only hotel we will even consider now!

Elegance and Ease in the Heart of Munich!
Charles Hotel is a fantastic place to stay in Munich if you're looking for a centrally located 5-star experience. It's conveniently close to shops and the railway station, with a beautiful park right in front. Highly recommended for anyone seeking luxury in the heart of Munich!
Once a 5 star hotel. Not worth the journey at all.

Since we had a wonderful time in The Charles Rocco Forte Munich a few years ago we booked it again to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It turned out to be the greatest disappointment we ever experienced. We arrived a ½ our too early, so our the luxe park view room wasn’t available yet. No problem for us. Reception offered us a drink in the bar, not in the nice lobby. The bar was dark & empty. After a long time someone came taking our order, not knowing it was offered by the hotel, so first had to check it. So after half an hour we got our coffee. We had ordered a table in Sophia’s restaurant that evening and went to the ( empty) concierge desk to get some information about some informal restaurants for the next 2 days. Finally a concierge came ( she turned out to be even a member of the concierges association). Unfortunately the only restaurants she could advise were some traditional old school restaurants (during our last stay in The Charles there were concierges who had immediately great information about the last (pop up) interesting informal restaurants).Later that evening we found note for one restaurant the coming days! Arriving in Sophia’s restaurant (with only Italian or English speaking staff- for the “Italian” ambiance?-. We ordered a bottle of wine and asked for the menu, it took 30 minutes to get the menu (not available the waiter said), after ordering we waited 1 hour to get our entry (was forgotten the waiter said, but in that hour he never realised we weren’t served yet!). Meanwhile our bottle of wine was empty and ordered a new one (offered for all the problems). Meanwhile he had informed the duty manager; a very nice and professional young women. She apologized for the inconvenience, the order hadn’t reached the kitchen, offered drinks in the bar after we had finished our (what turned out not to be a very spectacular) dinner. At that moment we didn’t know that we would see this duty manager several times during our 3 day stay. Next morning at breakfast there was a lot of staff, most of all very young (probably trainees) looking around, but not seeing what had to be done. It later turned out that was a structural problem ( anyway during our 3 days: very young staff, clearly not very well trained, too afraid to make mistakes, not knowing what to do, just eager to take your plate away, but not asking if you needed something- coffee for example- and no manager overlooking the scene and giving instructions. So very often we had to wait very long to get coffee or ordered eggs, because staff had forgotten or wasn’t allowed to put the order in the computer. If you are in a hurry, go and get your breakfast elsewhere. The attentive duty manager informing again if everything was all right , apologized again. When we returned to our room the next day it turned out that it wasn’t vacuum cleaned, guest utensils, used glasses-taken away- weren’t replenished. Complaining by housekeeping the answer was: F & B department was responsible for new glasses. During our stay we never got new glasses. The next day there were even no wash clothes at all. When calling they said there was no stock anymore!! Again we contacted the duty manager, she apologized (offered us a drink again) and later that evening we found 6 (!) wash clothes in in our bathroom, no guest utensils were replenished. In the bar was playing a trio of very old men (over 70 and 80 years old) they were also there during our previous stay. Nice music, small repertoire, anyway very cheap entertainment for the hotel. Service in the bar was very slow (again lot of staff, but no experience). Sunday evening returning from an opera premiere at 10.30 p.m. (after having enjoyed a small souper in town, necessary since the hotel restaurant closed too early for us) we decided to have some drinks in the bar. The bar was empty, the surface of the bar counter was dirty and fortunately I saw just before I sat on the bar stool that there were lettuce leaves, mayonnaise and tomato ketchup on it that had could have ruined my evening dress. We ordered drinks and the girl answered that we could have only 1 drink, since the bar would close at 11. P.M. due to a system update in the hotel!!! Have you ever heard such a story? Next day, when we checked out not very early we told reception that our stay was a great deception; apologizes again. Back home we filled out an automatic survey of the hotel. We got an email from the hotel manager (with c.c. to G.M. and to guest relations mgr!) apologizing for the inconveniences, preferring direct contact instead of a review on Tripadvisor and very generously offered 1 complementary night during our next stay!! For 3 spoiled days. Never again. There are other hotels in Munich. He could have contacted us earlier that weekend or Monday morning. It all cannot be considered as an incident; it’s a structural problem. And even a very attentive, hardworking duty manager (the only management during that weekend) cannot solve so many problems in different departments. Analogous to Bill Clinton “Don’t blame the staff, it’s the General management stupid”. That’s what happens if a company goes for revenue with 9-5 (incompetent) management. Probably other Rocco Forte hotels will be the same.

Off for a weekend to Munich. As our former stays at the Charles have been very appealing we decided to return. The general hardware is good. But because of the pop-up Zuma no "normal" restaurant and no "normal bar". As other comments have indicated, the moment you leave the hotel by foot in the direction of the city center your enter a dangerous drug addict and drug dealing zone. No way we would have walked back to the hotel after dark. Again as other comments have indicated, no sign of recognizing former stays, a robot-like check-in without warmth or hospitality. The rooms are ok but hardly worth the astronomical prices Rocco Forte charges for this classic but not historic 5star. During our 3 day stay not a single noteworthy interaction with the staff. Cold and professional, no genuine hospitality (perhaps due to the fact that the hotel seems to rely a lot on temporary interns without experience) Exception and kudos to the breakfast staff. So why 3 stars? Zume pop-up. As another reviewer pointed out: "a joke". Not only it deprives this hotel of a normal restaurant and bar but it represents the summum of arrogance and incompetence in the hospitality business. Designed for "money is no object munich jet-set bussy society" this caricature of other Zuma restaurants delivers overpriced, underwhelming food in a cramped seating and deafening noise. The gold medal of arrogance and haughtiness goes to the hostess though. Dear Charles Hotel, this was a performance which utterly devaluates your standing as one of Munich's luxury hotels. Stay away We shall certainly not be back

So good as always at a zuma. The lobby bar was great for drinks, snacks, and we had lunch one day. Very quiet at night and a nice room and bathroom. A major US pop star was staying there, and you could hardly tell, bc they kept it all going smoothly without a big scene. Short walk to main train station. We would stay here again and again.
