We had an excellent vacation at the Riu Republica. Resort was clean. Rooms were comfortable. Specialty restaurants had delicious food. Buffet food was very good but had same foods almost every day. Dining service was great. we had an exceptional server named Esmeralda who always greeted us with a smile and an available table. Jerk chicken was to die for. Lots of loungers were available around the pools everyday without getting up early to get one. We loved having the server give us drinks at the pool. Beach was a little more congested and did not have cabanas. Loungers there are in amongst the palm trees. There was lots of activities to do throughout the day and good entertainment during the evenings.

We had a horrible experience at the hotel (Riu Republica in Punta Cana, March 1-7 2025). When we arrived, at check in they offered us a "free" upgrade to a better room and we fell for it. The room they gave us had no working AC or fan, we could barely sleep because of the heat. The next day was mostly lost complaining, we had to complain 5 different times, and the answer was always "we sent a technician to fix it" (who never showed up). At 8:30 pm a manager spoke to us and promised us they would transfer us to another (all adults) hotel, but when we packed and came back, just as they were going to cut our bracelets and initiate the hotel transfer, they told us we were going to a family hotel (with loud kids and music). We refused. They ended up sending the technician who fixed the ceiling fan, but the AC didn't work the whole week. After the rocky start to our vacation we expected the bad experience to end there, but 2 days later the hotel had no running water or power for 26 hours. This meant no flushing the toilets, no showers, no wifi, no AC or fan, no clean towels, among other inconveniences. There was no plan and no solution for this, there wasn't even enough dinner for all the guests and the lines were about 30 minutes long. The staff was incredibly rude, the restaurants never had any available clean tables, and overall the service left a lot to be desired. The hotel offers 5 different restaurants for dinner, what they don't tell you is that they don't open every day, and you need to start lining up before 5:30 pm every day if you want to get a spot, losing even more precious vacation time. Overall terrible experience at this hotel, will never stay at a RIU hotel again.

Checked in 4th March ‘25. Staff were very surly and unwelcoming. Lugged our large suitcases to our room (would gladly have tipped). No air conditioning and ceiling fan not working. Safe broken but was promptly repaired. Plastic glasses and rubbish scattered all over the place, outside and inside. Managed to get to sleep about 3AM because of the noise. First full day there…chaos. No running water, no electricity. Saw our holiday rep at 9 AM who asked us to come back at midday. He brought 5 more reps with him to cope with the huge volumes of complaints from other guests! While the hotel is on the beach, there are no umbrellas to protect from the sun and all sunbeds look like they had been arranged by a hurricane. Food was abysmal. Because of the electricity situation, only one small buffet restaurant was open to feed about 1500 people. No plates, no seating…like a bun fight at the zoo! Another sleepless night because of the noise, chairs thrown over balconies, fighting outside our accommodation. Tried to call reception several times but no answer! We made up our minds that we would ship out even if we had to pay additional but luckily our holiday provider a fab hotel not very far away. Far and away the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I wouldn’t even give it one star. And by the way, I have never complained about a hotel before!

We had one working outlet in are room, leaking shower, no hot water, no tv channels, no working room phone and the list goes on the room maintenance was terrible never came to fix anything or even look at anything. The so called “parties” were always shortened and never met what they said, resort could definitely use some work and a room collapsed out front of the night club one night, and customers service wasn’t great until you pushed back and not let them walk all over you, your on vacation not a Reno company, would not return at all

I stayed at Riu Republica in Punta Cana for 11 nights and unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. **Room**: The room we received was spacious but quite dated. It wasn't cleaned every day, and we experienced a lack of towels during our stay. When we did have towels, they had a strong unpleasant smell. Additionally, the room key often failed to work, and we even dealt with bugs in the room. **Amenities**: The resort boasts a massive layout with multiple pools; however, many of them did not feel clean. We were disappointed to find that out of the nine restaurants, only one was à la carte, while the rest were buffets. We arrived during spring break, which meant the atmosphere was overwhelmingly loud and rowdy, primarily due to the influx of young party-goers. **Staff**: Unfortunately, our interactions with staff were mostly negative. Many were rude, making us feel like we were an inconvenience. The staff at the pool bar were friendly, but reception staff appeared unfriendly and dismissive. **Location**: On a positive note, the location was convenient, being not far from the airport. We enjoyed some excellent excursions, including trips to Saona Island and Bacardi Island. **Overall Experience**: Our stay was marred by several issues: - On Wednesday morning, we had no running water, restricting our ability to fully utilize hotel facilities. - There were long queues for food; it took over an hour to get a burger for lunch, and many restaurants were still closed. - Power outages limited Wi-Fi access and drink availability, and we had no hot water once the water returned. - The lifts in the accommodation were inoperative, making it difficult to navigate the resort. - Breakfast was disappointing, with no mimosas available and a limited drink menu during spring break, which excluded options like gin and tonic. - On multiple occasions, we were without towels, and when provided, they smelled anything but fresh. In summary, while Riu Republica has potential due to its location and size, multiple aspects of our stay were unsatisfactory. I would recommend researching alternatives before booking.

Booked last minute so I didn’t do my research like I usually would have done. BIG MISTAKE!!! Sadly the resort isn’t like any other Riu I’ve stayed at, it lets the Riu brand down big time. Check in was manic. The reception area is manic all the time, due to constant check in and check outs. They have their own system of leaving your luggage to the side to make it less congested. Pool towels passes are handed out at check in (and again this is the only hotel that if you don not put the towels back in the towel check point on the evening they will not give you fresh the next day) the tip box on ye desk is a joke! As if they want tipping for a service that’s a standard service! This is something they didn’t make us aware of at check in. Also at check in you will have your wrist band put on if this is lost it’s $200. Youl be given a map keep it as the resort is huge! We had a porter to help us to the room obviously we had to tip him but it saved us the hassle of trying to roam around after a long flight. Our room was on the ground floor as I requested that was a plus. The down side is that they don’t clean it very well or at all! The bed linen was a stinking like someone else had all ready slept in it! I told the rep who had asked house keeping to have it changed but it was never changed. She changed the pillow cases once. The towels in the bathroom need to be binned they are no longer white they are badly stained and again don’t smell fresh, I face they stink!!!some days we would get 2 towels and on the odd occasion you would get one hand Towel , no Bath/shower mat so the floor is soaked every time you shower! Also the mouldy stench bathroom and In the room is gross. I didn’t unpack my case I didn’t want the smell to linger on my clothes. There is complimentary hand soap in the sink and shower area in a wall dispenser but they don’t smell pleasant. So bring your own. There a hairdryer in the bathroom. The mimi bar and fridge are rarely re filled so have to keep asking for simple things like water! I was poorly while I was there and kept calling reception for water. They say they’ll get you it but don’t! I can appreciate it is an adult only hotel and had a mix of all ages, that’s not a problem but the hotel needs to keep on top of cleaning the path ways and communal areas. Especially around the pool areas as it’s not done properly in fact it’s done sloppy! Food and left over spilt drinks are left for ants to thrive off and. The path way has food from people dropping on the way back to there room that sits there and is covered in insects and flys. It needs more cleaning janitors to keep on top of the cleanliness of the site it’s unhygienic. The pool area wasn’t cleaned properly. I’m an early riser and never saw any one properly clean the area. I saw young men with large buckets they filled from the pool water and would throw around the lounge area I’d imagine this was the cleaning regime. I personally found it shocking. There is a 24 hour snack bar if you like cold hot dogs and nachos A jerk chicken place by the beach I can’t comment on it as I don’t try it. Numerous restaurants mainly buffet style and steak house that needs booking but we couldn’t get a reservation. The food is standard and is cold, it never was hot or even warm. I feel it needs covering as fly were all over it and also anyone with allergies this hotel is not for you as the food is not labelled and serving spoons are used for many different dishes. The tables never layer with cutlery on some days you may get full cutlery and other day you mite not. If you do plan on going take your own reusable cup they will fill it and it beats drinking from manky plastic beakers. Over all I think if you’re up for an adults only butlins type of break on steroid it’s fine. It’s an up all night stay a bit longer type of resort. There are pink party’s jungle party’s white party’s neon party’s. Party party party I was randomly bitten while on holiday not by a mosquito (unsure what it was) as I had to visit the onsite doctor who was fabulous. I was given an injection to help with the swelling of my eye and face and spent 2 days In my room. It was unfortunate that the tv didn’t work and all through calling the reception it was never sorted and the room had an unpleasant smell. I wouldn’t go back to the Riu Republica, I’m not the only one who had issues and have heard that after we left the hotel had water supply issues and electricity issues.

This review is about Riu Republica in Punta Cana. We arrived on March 4, 2025 because we want to take a good relaxing vacation after my surgery. I was starting to feel good and I just want to go and be relaxing and be taking care. We arrived and my husband enrolled himself in the Rio class. That way we started getting some points. He went ahead and he checked in himself and he had all the information. When we arrived to the hotel, immediately somebody approached us. When my husband was directing himself to the line for the members or Rio class members, this guy said, just leave the suitcases over here and just follow me. My husband was telling him that he already checked in. He said, no, no, come with me. When we arrived, he started telling us that the room that we booked was very far away from the beach. That it would take us a long walk to go to the beach and to go to the restaurant. Because of my condition, I prefer to be close to everything. Like I said, I want to have a relaxing vacation. He said, well, I can change the room for you. I'm going to talk to my boss if you give us a good tip. We knew immediately that it was a rip-off. We were already in line. We don't want to start something. We want to start relaxing. He went and disappeared. We know that he doesn't talk to anybody. Because at the same time, the guy next to us was saying the same thing to the other people. All right, so he came back and he gave us a room. He knows exactly what I was telling him about my situation with the surgery. He gave us a room on the fourth floor. We arrived to the room. Then we unpacked and we started to go to try to get familiar with the resort. We went and had an early dinner. Thank God that we did. Later on that night, the power went off. The nightmare started. Not only the power, not electricity, also water. We don't have any water in the room, not even to flush the toilets. The elevator was not working, so it was very hard for me to go up and down from the room. My husband immediately went and requested to see if we could be changed to another room. He said, we are both seniors. He told them about my condition and they said no. They said no. It was terrible because by this time, much of anything to eat was fruit, bread. You don't want to eat anything that was not refrigerated. We were very careful not to get sick. The night was horrible because the humidity and the temperature rise. It was very hard to be in the room. We went through the night, hopefully thinking that we're going to get the power back. But we didn't. We went to try to enjoy the day in the beach, in the pool, and try to get ourselves busy. It took me a long time to go down the stairs, but I know that when I was done, I'm not going to go up again. I stayed all day long outside in the resort. They were really struggling with everything. The service started to be affected because I imagined that a lot of customers were disappointed. All the services started to really fight with each other. I talked to one of them that looked like I was the boss in the restaurant. I'm talking about the restaurant close to the beach. One of them was really talking back to the other people in front of me because I really don't look like a person that can speak Spanish. After that, I mentioned to him that with the situation that we are all in, it was not a good idea to also see that all the services have terrible waste. They don't even give us a glass of water. That was the only thing to drink. Pretty much like I said before, fruit and some kind of pastries is what we really have for breakfast. Nothing else was cooked because they don't have anything. All right, so during the day, we would keep our fingers crossed. When we go up, we would have the situation fixed. It looks like at least they fixed the situation with the elevator and with the water, thank God, but no power again. So my husband went back again to ask to change the rules, and they said no. So that's when we really took the problem in our hands, and we booked our plane back to our town. Very disappointed because this hotel, I know the situations that I think could happen everywhere, but the way that we start with them, and we can see that all of them, they have a different way to react to people. I know that they try to do their best, and I know there was a lot of people that they were not happy, but they don't do anything to help the people that was in the hotel. They keep taking the new people that they were coming to the hotel, and they put it in rooms that they have power. So this is a major complaint to the Rio change, because we have a very good idea of the Rio itself, because we already stay in different ones, and this was very disappointing. The hotel itself need a little bit of tender love and care, but overall, it was the situation on how they handle the customers. I really not recommend this place at all, not only because what happened for the situation, what happened is the way that they handle and they welcome the customers in. I think that is a rip-off, and it's super ridiculous. I hear other people giving $50 tip for that, and a lot of the people that they go to this hotel, they save a whole year to try to get a vacation in that place. I think that is a very scammer. I don't know how much they know about it. I'm sure that the manager in that hotel have to know what they're doing, because it's very obvious that they are doing to every single customer. So I don't recommend this hotel at all.

This is not a 5 star resort at all. We’re unfortunate that we’ve been during ‘spring break’ and it was like a children’s playground! Encouraged to drink by the waiters providing them bottles of ‘champagne’, wine, preferential treatment at the bar. Which they throw all over, throw the empty cups and bottles all over. Not exactly what we had in mind when we booked. The rooms do indeed have mould, we’ve not used the air con at all as you can see the mould on the filter. Rather not throw that into my body. The maids have been in everyday and have done a fab job can’t fault them or any of the cleaning staff around the resort. They really are fighting a losing battle though with the amount of disrespectful children. Water in room topped up and Towels changed daily. Saw two male staff stop and pee in the hedges from my balcony. Disgusting! Went into the pool bar once and felt disgusting coming out due to the amount of alcohol being thrown around in there. Spent the rest of the time at the beach to avoid the volume of spring breakers that completely took over with no regards given to anyone else there. Go to the far left there’s little bar and loos that are much quieter than the larger ones entering the beach. Woke two mornings to no running water, was sorted by returning in the afternoon however did have cold showers on both evenings, 1 full day of no electricity, trying to get lunch and dinner was horrendous. An hour queuing at the chicken stand for a burger. Gave in the end and bought crisps instead. Dinner was not organised at all, staff did a fab job to keep food replenished for the whole hotel in a small space but the wait staff didn’t help by again encouraging young people to drink supplying bottles and ‘egging’ them on. They were disrespectful to all other guests in there trying to eat. Should not have to listen to a bunch of kids chanting, they should’ve been moved out so more people could sit at a table rather than a sun lounger to eat their meal. The young people have zero respect, banging doors and shouting in corridors at 3-4am. Grow up! This is the hotels fault for allowing group bookings. You’re attracting the wrong clientele. It’s trashy and not attractive to people that like a good time but minus the ‘children’. Got up one morning to find broken glass in the corridor, bins and ashtrays kicked all over. Sealy bags around the resort. Messaged Riu on the app ahead of our stay to request something for my husband for his 50th birthday… not acknowledged. Can’t book for any of the restaurants it’s first come first served WTF? Not quite sure how that is fair to everyone? Went for steak one night at 7:30… closed despite the boards saying 6-9. Must have a quota. The buffets were ok a lot of the same but all edible, not much choice when you can’t get into a restaurant. Two days running we woke to one of the main drains overflowing outside our balcony, It stank rancid, never saw 1 person come to look at it, obviously a recurring problem as it’s got its own indents in the grass where it flows on to the path. We went knowing it had a mixture of party and relaxation so we could enjoy both but we didn’t partake in the party due to the number of young people that were disgraceful and disrespectful. I paid £3500 for 10 nights, I’ve paid far less and had much better facilities, cleanliness and respect at lower starred resorts than this! I went with an open mind after reading the reviews, wish I’d have changed when I had the chance! We made the most of what we had, but our evenings were spent avoiding and moaning about the young people. Riu should look at this hotel that is bringing their name down! TUI. You should also take a look at this, charging what you do for trash… shame on you! Oh and $70 per person compensation for the lack of electricity, running water, hot water and cold drinks in 30+ heat… shove it. We will return to the Dominican but not this hotel. EVER

After a 9 hour flight, turns out we were catfished. Wanted a relaxing Caribbean break and got party central. Full of you’ve guessed it, unaware self important Americans looking for a great time. The food is alright. The room is in need of repair. Morning, noon and night there’s noise through the halls. We’d booked a twin room and got a standard double with no other rooms to switch to. Crap mattresses and pillows, feeling every single bit of partner movement. I am exhausted, it’s day 3 and I can’t wait to go home. I have an eye mask with speakers in it, even if I play thunderstorms on full blast I can still hear people in the corridor above it. There’s no peace. Thousands spent. So disappointed. At least the air con in our room worked unlike others in the other reviews I’ve seen. There’s broken glass all over the place on pathways. Staff only perk up when you tip them. Can’t wait to go home. This place is not a 5 star hotel by any means. Even a guy on our coach from the airport said he’d been here 4 times and everytime it’s been worse than the time before. Bodes well.
