Entertainmant staff = amazing. Aranza, Francisco, Dino, Karen, and the rest were all awesome. Food = good Concierge = terrible. Locked us out of our room with zero warning because Sunwing cancelled our stay two days early. Forced us to sit and wait in the lobby for several hours in cold, wet, bathing suits with no access to our valuables/documents/medications. Made us pay a significantly higher price than what we initially paid for our whole stay so we could get into our room. Refused to offer any refund or compensation. Ruined the last few days of an already tainted visit. Treated us like thieves for a situation caused by Sunwing's error. Seemed liked they only cared about money, not their guests.

Was very much looking foreword to this trip – 5 star. Two weeks. Mistake for us – not for adults looking for a relaxing tropical get away. We have been to many resorts and this was the first one that we have ever discussed leaving early. The rooms are nice enough, very clean, staff super friendly and accommodating. But….. there is a lot wrong with this resort – I will go over just a few. Noisey! All restaurants, buildings, lounges - everywhere. Every facility must be scientifically designed to magnify and transmit sound for great distances. There is NO reprieve. Always. The first day we asked a server if there were any any quiet places, to have a meal or anything. She politely just laughed and walked away – literally. Crowded! Long line ups for everything always. Children. Never too far from a two year old having a bad day. Make sure you get a room on the sunny south side. Our first room was north side, [no view, luck of the draw] but the humid climate and no sun ever = totally damp room that never dries out, water running down the walls. We soon developed chest congestion and raspy cough. Discussed this with fellow guests, apparently this is a common complaint there, they had experienced this as well [swamp was the word they used] and had requested a move so we did same. They complied with our request, picked a nice room with a view, all was settled – available in 3 days. Checked and confirmed at the desk each day prior making sure hoping to salvage something of this vacation, yep, yep, no problem. But when moving day came suddenly there was confusion and not available – After a battle where I had to raise my voice, mostly in desperation and exasperation they got us into a sunny, dry room but no view overlooking an alley/storage yard. But the sunny and dry room was sure nice – not a swamp. Another disappointment in this mad house resort. Pools closed at 7:00. - lights off! Whats with that? EVERY resort we have ever been to there was evening activity at the end of the day, visiting, drinks conversation. I myself have been known to enjoy the pool, hot tubs, open bar until very late in the evening – vacation right? Elevators often out of order 6 floors, you need them, more line ups. Bathrooms up two flights of stairs from 3 of the main restaurants. Just weird. There were other lacking features but this will suffice. Just a note – most other guests we spoke to were having a very good time and many were repeat guests to this resort. The few unhappy guest we spoke to and us supposed these folks may have not been ever anywhere else. Sincerely, Penticton BC

Mixed emotions about this hotel. The grounds and hotel itself are immaculate. Everything is spotless. The food at all the restaurants was really good but a bit repetitive. Our main concern was being at the far end of the 6th floor. It's ALOT of walking with the only elevators situated directly in the middle of the hotel. We did the stairs a few times but we are not as young as we once were. Another major issue for us was the pool. Way too many kids in the main pool. Yeah the swim up bar is ropped off but the kids were everywhere splashing and screaming. We checked out the other pool over by the kids club and not surprisingly it was pretty empty. And definitely not enough bathrooms by the pool. With everyone squashed in there at 3pm, you can just imagine how scummy that water gets. We probably would not return to this hotel again. Pretty boring after dark. We're at that age where we want to hang out in the evenings but just not with the 20 year olds at the disco. And WAY too many kids.

We stayed at Riu Jalisco the 2nd week of Feb 2025. We had downloaded the hotel app beforehand and this turned out to be very helpful and saved us a lot of time and hassle - I strongly encourage it. The resort has been running for a while and they have everything down to a science. It's clean and the food was very good. It is due for a 'face-lift' and I was told this was happening soon. Overall a safe bet - everything is ok, not necessarily great but satisfactory. There's not really anything to complain about. Our check-in was fast and our room was ready even though we were early. The room itself is nice - a bit small but ok. It was clean though and remained that way during our entire stay - housekeeping did an excellent job. What stood out for me was the customer service and the cleanliness - that was five star! Every single time I asked for something, it was done within 30 minutes. First we needed batteries for the room safe and maintenance was there in 25 minutes to replace the batteries. Later in the evening we made a request on the app for extra pillows and got them 15 minutes later. Throughout the week I requested coffee creamer for the room and received them in 15 minutes. A few days later I asked for coffee for the room machine and got it in 20 minutes. As for cleanliness - the beach/pool public restrooms were probably the cleanest I've ever experienced - there was ALWAYS an employee cleaning the washrooms - ALWAYS - non-stop every hour. Those restrooms get really gross due to people with sand and water dripping using the facilities but there was a lady continually cleaning both restrooms - I very much appreciated that. Lots of food choices and you don't need a reservation for à la carte restaurants - first come first served and if the restaurant is full they give you a pager so you can go enjoy a drink while waiting for your call-up. I enjoyed the asian restaurant very much (went twice) and the italian restaurant had the best salmon I have ever had (went twice). Overall I gave the resort a 4 star because it is a bit dated but I'm giving them a 5 star for customer service and cleanliness.
