This was our second stay at this hotel and it is still probably the best hotel we have stayed in. Even the basic rooms are large with all the facilities you need and the beds are very comfortable. The restaurant is good with a very good choice of menu and helpful and efficient waiter service. The gardens are beautiful and very extensive with an amazing collection of sub tropical plants, shrubs and trees. It has several quiet sitting areas in the gardens and of course there is always Columbo the giant Galapagos Tortoise.
The Pool area has a lovely heated pool as well as jacuzzi and plenty of sun beds. The bar and restaurant by the pool serves snacks drinks and lunches.
But the best thing about this hotel is the staff. They are efficient, friendly and helpful. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they bend over backwards to ensure you have a good and comfortable stay. We were there when we both had birthdays and the staff really made them birthdays to remember. We hope to go again soon.

Quinta Jardins do Lago was the ideal oasis to rest up from our adventures in Madeira. A beautiful setting offering spotless rooms and excellent food. All the staff that were really focused on making our stay a great one. We depended on them for restaurant choices, planning tours and hikes along the levadas and coordinating all our transportation on the island - and they delivered time and time again.

Excellent from start to finish.
The hotel was spotless. The gardens were beautiful and it was nice to see Colombo ( the giant tortoise). ALL the staff were friendly and professional and the food was exceptional.
A wonderful relaxing break.
Thanks to all.

We really enjoyed and appreciated the hospitality displayed by the staff. The large room with a balcony and garden view was excellent. The gardens are lovely, even in February, and the resident gaint tortoise seems to love being petted.
The breakfast was well cooked and offers a large choice, we even managed to eat outside one one day.
It took us about 40 minutes to walk down to the old town, and we walk fairly quickly. The route only has partial sidewalks/pavement, so be ready to dodge traffic and it is steep. We opted to get a taxi back. The hotel offers a shuttle service that requires booking but it ends too early to be of use to transfer into town for dinner. I would suggest extending the service to end around 7:30 pm. Taxis were easy to find, plenty of taxi ranks.
Overall a first rate hotel, we will be back.

Lovely hotel in the suburbs of Funchal. The hotel is colonial in style with lots of local wooden floors and paneling . Extensive and beautiful gardens surround the hotel which are located in a quiet area 10 minutes from the centre of town. The rooms are spacious and all face South with views of the garden.A slight criticism would be the rooms are a little dated. Only 2 electrical points and you needed to put the kettle on the floor when using it. The TVs are quite old models but functional. Breakfast is plentiful with an extensive menu and really good ingredients . The restaurant food is also excellent quality and value for money, with a chef and team who know how to cook and present food. This brings me to the staff. Whether it’s the reception, cleaning, garden, transport drivers or restaurant staff, all are professional and helpful. They help make this hotel what it is. We enjoyed our mid winter break and the hotel and staff helped us recharge our batteries.

The staff were exceptionally helpful, the food was good with a good variety of breakfast offerings. We also enjoyed the dinners. We stayed in a beautiful, spacious suite with very comfortable beds. The garden is very beautiful even in the winter . The hotel is located in a very peaceful area on a hillside with lovely views, only a 20 minute walk downhill to the centre of Funchal and provides a much welcome return shuttle bus for the uphill return journey! Thank you so much to everybody who made our stay such a happy one!

Simply the best hotel in Funchal/Madeira!
We come here for about twenty years now and therefore feel really at home away from home!
Location is great (it's better if you have a car, but otherwise there is a shuttle to the city-center and taxis are still affordable), the garden and the pool are stunning.
Kitchen is also a delight and rooms are big and cosy (prefer the "Superior Garden View with Balcony").
And to top it all is the staff: everyone is friendly, helpful and competent!
We are just looking forward to our next stay!

We think this is the best 5* hotel we have ever stayed in. The staff are wonderful without exception, and cannot do enough to help. The rooms are large and comfortable with the largest beds and views over the amazing gardens. The food at the hotel restaurant is as good as you are going to get anywhere. The Valentines dinner was in our top five meals. We have stayed twice in successive years and will probably return next year. As you can tell, we like the hotel.

Our 1st visit to Madeira and we had the most wonderful stay at Quinta Jardins do lago. The hotel was superb with lovely staff, everyone was so helpful & kind. The location is perfect for exploring with courtesy transport to the waterfront where you can walk to the cable car, hop on a scenic bus trip and enjoy the many cafes, bars & shops in the Old Town. Our room had a balcony overlooking the gardens and was spotlessly clean and comfortable. We had B & B and the breakfast choice was excellent. Sitting out on the sunny veranda overlooking the gardens was joyful! I celebrated my 60th birthday at the hotel and was treated to a delicious chocolate cake, fizz and a very thoughtful letter from the management team wishing me a lovely day⁹. We would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you to the whole team, not forgetting Colombo, for making our holiday so special.

First time and not the last
An excellent hotel with friendly and attentive staff. We could not fault anything. Our room, views and the pool were amazing. All the staff went out of their way to help, even Colombia the tortoise seemed at ease. No wonder there are so many returning customers
Relaxing break in lovely surroundings
Charming hotel in beautiful gardens with lovely pool and fabulous views. Very friendly staff and convenient car service into Funchal. Breakfast served in the garden was particularly special. The attractive pool area provided a relaxing space for books with snacks and drinks available.
This is the third time we have stayed here. This hotel keeps getting better and better. Its beautiful location, excellent service, and lovely food make it outstanding.
We stayed for 1 month and have only good things to say about this hotel and the beautiful island of Madeira.

Superb! Have stayed for 5 weeks since October so feel entitled to give it real praise. We wanted a quiet time in lovely gardens with a pool. Hotel not too large or too small. Hotel meals very good; breakfast outside more often than not as well as good access to Funchal Town. Highlight is the service. Staff and guests get to know each other and the staff always want to please and provide a personal service. Very well managed hotel.

Superb hotel in fabulous setting
This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting surrounded by exquisite gardens. The service was second to none. Highly recommended. I am not going to be told by Tripadvisor how many characters I have to use so I’ll just finish with a load of rubbish.

What can we say, it was our fourth visit to Quinta Jardins do Lago and it was just as enjoyable and lovely as our other visits. This stay was for a 60th Birthday celebration and it was great, including the chocolate birthday cake which we found in our room after breakfast - it was very tasty!!
The weather wasn’t too bad, warm but quite a bit of rain but it was warm rain! Having a seating area in the room was a bonus as you could sit in their as well as all the other seating areas at the hotel.
Food and drink just as good as before everything cooked to perfection and chefs accommodating your request for something different.
We honestly cannot name anyone individually as all the staff are very friendly, helpful and so polite. They are all just like family and when you return it’s open arms!
Thank you everyone at Quinta Jardins do Lago, we look forward to when we can return for our fifth visit.

Fabulous hotel in Madeira
This hotel is unsurpassed. EVERY aspect was fabulous - the ambience, the food, the grounds, the room, the staff, the location. Truly a paradise in paradise. Peaceful and elegant with wonderful views of Funchal. We felt seen and comfortable without anyone trying to impress us with obsequious service.
Quintessential in every respect!

The level of service and comfort, surroundings and food are unbelievably good. Just spent a week there and speedily booked another two weeks for next year. We were met at reception with such great warmth and attention to detail. It was clear from the start nothing was any trouble at all. The room was very comfortable, large and fully equipped. The bed was very comfortable and the whole hotel, facilities, and grounds are spotlessly clean. The setting is peaceful half way up the hills from the harbour with a grand garden and resident giant galapagos tortoise (Colombo). The Beresford restaurant is very classic in the colonial style serving gorgeous food. Dress is casual. The pool is large and relaxing. My wife also had three massage treatments whilst there and thought they were fantastic. Simply adored the place.

This was our 9th visit to Quinta Jardins do Lago and it will not be the last.
A warm welcome, staff who remember you and welcome you back, a large room overlooking the acres of tropical gardens, eating your breakfast outside with a wide choice of fresh fruits (oh for a custard apple!!) and meats, plus cereals and a cooked breafast cooked fresh just as you like it.
We lounged around the pool soaking in the sunshine and then walked around the gardens - a sub tropical paradise
We had a number of evening meals in the hotel - all cooked to perfection
We used the regular hotel mini bus down to Funchal - but do not worry - you catch the no 15 regular bus service from Funchal
This is our relaxing holiday and it 'ticks all the boxes' - excellent service, supurb location, large room, good food - what else could we wish for?
If you want to visit more of Madeira (and there is a lot to see e.g. tours of the island, lavada walks etc), just ask reception. In the past they have arranged our hire car and gave excellent advice by advising we get an automatic (lots of hills around Madeira), all at the same price as we could find on the internet
What more can we say - but, we will be returning next January for our 10th visit!!
