Great hotel. Great location. Great staff. If I was to be critical the cocktails are a little expensive in the hotel bars. Also some maintenance work being carried out in the hotel so was difficult to enjoy a lazy lie in !! I feel that this should be mentioned at booking.

Super charming and lovely hotel in a great location. We had a lovely room looking over her a canal that at first I was concerned about street noise, but ended up being quiet. The room has groovy and charming elements like a charming tea set and glassware, the concierge and bell team were terrific as were all the staff and we thoroughly enjoyed the Pulitzer Garden bar. My only 'notes' are they could raise the level by paying attention to details such as one of our outlets didn't work, the towels and breakfast were ok not great and I thought the Pulitzer Bar was a total rip off, but overall, a great hotel. Fun tip: on our first day, we took the boat ride which leads right from the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed that while getting a great overview of the city. Highly recommend.

We stayed for 4 nights. Leaving on New Year. The location is perfect. The Staff in the hotel, and the garden room coffee bar/restaurant , and bar were all excellent. Particularly the Concierge for museums, and those dealing with taxis and luggage delivery, as the layout of the hotel, between houses, is complicated. Two rather large BUTS: We paid for (and got) a larger than average double room, as 4 nights is a fairly long time if the room is not spacious. It was spacious , but it seems that it is designed with instagram and photos in mind, not for people who actually stay. The only place in the room with adequate lighting to read a book was the bothroom, and our clothes more than filled the 3 tiny draws and one shelf in the wardrobe. Such furniture, other than seating, as there was, consisted of a bizarre vintage drinks cabinet and an odd dressing table and desk combination which provided neither function. There were no ceiling lights, or lamps more than 1.1m high. If we needed to find something in the wardrobe we used the torches on our phone. As someone involved with the luxury hotel sector for over 20 years it saddens me when poor practicalities and lack of attention detail undermine great staff. When it is quiet later in the month, I would urge the GM to get her SMT to go round the rooms, in pairs, on a winter afternoon, carrying a couple of books to try to read, and looking critically at the room's storage options. The bumph in the room included the hotel magazine and an interview with the head of design. If the one we had was a typical room he should think about a career change. Good design is firstly about function. The architecture in the hotel is lovely, and the links between the buildings and gardens are great. There is some interesting art work, but not all vintage furniture and old lamps are worth renovating. I understand that Jansz is a good restaurant but we could only eat there for one breakfast . At dinner it was fully booked - our loss. On the first morning we tried to get in for breakfast but the receptionist, having checked whether we had any allergies, confirmed they were full and we could try again in 30 minutes. We had breakfast on the final morning- which was good, though perhaps not quite as good as the staff seemed to think, and do they all have to ask repeatedly about allergies? Perhaps the restaurant had an issue and its insurers insist on everyone being asked several times ? There is a fine line between showing that you care, and appearing over concerned about what the kitchen might serve.

This hotel is so well appointed with much attention to detail, which is also reflected in how the team treats their guests. We were flying in and out of Amsterdam, bouncing around to a few other cities in between, and stayed here for 3 nights on the first leg of our journey. For our return to Amsterdam before flying out, we had booked at another place just to try a different neighborhood but liked this hotel so much we changed plans and decided to stay here again. For reference - couple, 40s, no kids and we booked a king canal view room. Great location, very central, busy but not noisy. Maybe a 5 minute tram ride to the train station. The rooms are spacious and polished while still offering personality. The hotel bar offers a nice spot to grab a bite, coffee, or a night cap. The grounds have a wonderful garden in the middle as well as an adjacent cocktail bar and restaurant. Every interaction with the staff was lovely. Superb stay all around.
