Still a great choice after 25 years.

This was a wonderful experience!
Staying on the river was terrific! We really enjoyed wine on the rooftop, and for dinner it was necessary to make reservations in the dining room. The staff was friendly and polite. When they realized we were leaning Italian they made an extra effort to converse with us.
Highly recommend for your visit to Florence!

Beautiful hotel on the Arno River! Rooms were clean and spacious. Food and drinks are amazing as well! Service was top-notch,especially at the bar inside. The only reason for one star off is the shower in the bathroom. Ours was the size of a phone booth (maybe), and the sides were collapsible and didn't attach to the ground. Therefore, every time one of us would shower, it got water all over the floor of the bathroom, creating quite a mess, even though the bathroom itself was very spacious. If not for that, a 5-star experience for sure.

Beware - hotel tries to take extra preauthorisations - without approval
Arrived on 29th July for 3 nights. I provided a credit card upon arrival - for a pre-authorised amount (€379). This is totally normal practice - and I was assured no monies would be taken. I gave my pin number and credit card. I agreed to this. On 31st July...
Arrived on 29th July for 3 nights. I provided a credit card upon arrival - for a pre-authorised amount (€379). This is totally normal practice - and I was assured no monies would be taken. I gave my pin number and credit card. I agreed to this. On 31st July I got a call from Reception. They had "tried to process another pre-authorisation for c.€700 and it had failed". They demanded I went down to Reception. I was confused. 1. I did not authorise another pre-authorisation. I had only authorised €379. 2. I was unaware that ANOTHER pre-authorisation would be taken - nor did I know the amount of a 2nd pre-authorisation. 3. I was told this is "hotel policy". I decided to pay the whole bill - a day early - to make things easier. I then discovered that the hotel had ALREADY TAKEN the agreed pre-authorisation of €379 - and had deducted it off my final balance. I was stunned. At Check-in - we were clearly told that the pre-authorisation was just a Guarantee for the hotel. We were told that no monies would be taken (normal practice). BEWARE This hotel will try to access your credit card - without your knowledge - and then be aggressive with you. I felt like a criminal. The Reception girl was so rude - she ruined my stay. I provided my credit card and pin for the 1st pre-authorisation. The hotel then tried to access this card AGAIN without my permission, without my knowledge and did not provide an amount in advance. I believe this is illegal. Card details are given in strictest confidence - and on TRUST. The hotel claim that this dishonest practice is "hotel policy". I am writing to Visa to inform them.

Watch for them taking payment preauthorisation and demand to pay bill the day before - without telling you

Nice location, we are repeat visitors so enjoyed our stay in Florence. BUT the afternoon before our checkout we were asked to contact reception urgently - which we did Their policy is to bank the preauthorised amount and aggressively demand that you pay your full bill the night before. We travel the world on business and privately never had a preauthorisation taken (not sure that’s legal) nor been asked to pay the bill the night before. Spent €000’s in shops in Florence this week. Felt belittled.

We stayed in this hotel for one night after a week and a half in Florence and Tuscany. This hotel was very disappointing. The check in was cumbersome and the rooms were not ready. The elevator was musty smelling and old. The room was fine but certainly not worth $800. One of the reasons we stayed here was for the roof top bar and restaurant but we were not able to use it because it was booked for a private party. Lastly, when we checked out very early in the morning we were given a bill for $60 for “tips for the front desk”. I have never been given a bill for tips before!

We found the hotel to be comfortable but tired looking especially the carpets and general appearance which I think is in need of a full make over. The rooms were clean but do need an upgrade. We stayed in a room with a balcony overlooking the Arno river which was nice but not really worth the extra £600 for the privilege of having the balcony. The shower is so small and is not that practical as the doors allow water to drip all over the floor when it is opened. The hairdryer switched off after a couple of minutes which was annoying. We ate on the roof top bar which was very good and reasonable but were astonished at the price to eat the same meal in the hotel bar as it was so much more expensive. Club sandwich, ham and cheese sandwich, Limoncello spritz and Coke Zero cost 81euro in the bar which was much more expensive. The positives are the Rooftop bar and views over Florence and all the staff were very nice and helpful and a big thanks goes to the breakfast waitress who was always pleasant. 10/10 for service. We were surprised to receive an invoice at check in that included 87 euros for a tip which we did not agree to pay as we always pay tops for personal service. Overall we had a good time in Florence

We just checked out of this fantastic little hotel. We booked the deluxe with balcony with the best view over the Arno river. Check in was smooth and quick. Assigned room was on the fourth floor. The room was simply furnished and cleanly decorated. Bathroom was functional and a decent size for Europe. Rooftop bar was the absolute show stopper for this hotel. It is well done with a good variety of drinks. Table, chairs, couches with a stunning view. We spent every spare minute up on the terrace. Staff were friendly and efficient for the italian standard. We did not eat on the roof top. The only down side to this hotel was the recommendation of the concierge. Sent us to a very touristy restaurant overlooking Duomo. Menu was very average and the "sellers" were everywhere. We did ask for something more local not too touristy. Found our own places after that recommendation. I highly recommend this Hotel and would stay here again.

High Quality, Conveniently-located Classy Hotel
Great location, cool rooftop bar with a great view, very clean, nice rooms, and very friendly, helpful staff. We walked everywhere in Florence from here. And, easily went into Tuscany and back from here for wine tasting during the day.
