I know I'm in the minority but I was not impressed with Peace Lodge. The rooms were noisy...we could hear our neighbors next door and above us and we felt nickle and dimed for everything. Breakfast is not included, mini bar not included but the biggest thing that bothered me is that after spending the money to stay on the property, we were told we could feel the sloths, toucans and hummingbirds for $50 per person! This should be included for resort guests. We stayed for two nights but could have easily stayed for just one. There just wasn't enough for us to do. We explored the animal sanctuary the day we checked in and did the waterfall hike the next morning. We were done by 11:00 am and then there was nothing else to do. The weather wasn't great so we couldn't go lay at the pool (which is very small). I wish they had a spa with a sauna, steam room or hot springs that hotel guests could enjoy...especially during rainy weather. We looked at leaving the property but couldn't find transportation and it looked like there was nothing close by. And the steps.....SO MANY STEPS!! If you have mobility issues this is not the place for you. The staff was wonderful so we had no issues with them. I can see why families with young children would enjoy this because you can experience animals closer than you do in the wild but it just wasn't for us and we won't be back. The other two resorts we stayed in during our time in Costa Rica were much, much nicer and had many more amenities and things included.

Incredible place to see & enjoy. Unfortunately it poured the whole time we were there, but we were still glad to have had the experience. However it is best enjoyed if physically fit enough to handle the hilly terrain & steps. Many people go there for the day with a day pass as there is hiking to the falls ( which can be viewed from a restaurant area close to the entrance as well as great bird viewing from the restaurant), an aviary, monkey & butterfly areas, wildlife in cages, etc. It’s a fantastic place & wish we could have seen more. We enjoyed the aviary & seeing a jaguar. Our room, especially the bathroom, was unbelievable. Excellent dinner at their restaurant. About an hour to airport so a good place to stay instead of staying in San Jose.

One of the most incredible hotels I have ever been to. The setting is in a rain forest complete with the most spectacular waterfalls (plural) and nature. The 2 words I would describe what it’s like to be there is wonder and awe. The rooms are so unique - very Alice in Wonderland vibe. Clean, beautiful, decorated as uniquely and beautifully as I have ever seen. For lunch, go catch a trout from the pond and have the chef cook it for you for lunch. There are so many superlatives to describe the experience here.

We just returned from a 4 day stay at the Peace Lodge, and it was absolutely amazing. From the beautifully appointed rooms, to the stellar service by staff, and the gorgeous scenery of the nature and wildlife at your fingertips makes this place an absolute must see visit. Being a bird lover and an amateur bird watcher, the Peace Lodge offered you the opportunity to see birds close up, whether you were having your breakfast buffet (the birds joined for snacks) or being able to hand feed hummingbirds. Having hummingbirds fly around you and land on you was an incredible experience. They have a birdwatching tour on site, and we would highly recommend booking Michael Jimenez for this encounter. He has been working for the Peace Lodge for over 20 years, and his knowledge of birds and other wildlife is amazing. We had excellent service from every staff member we encountered. Shout out to Pablo Sevilla and John Jimenez for their nature tours as well as Daniel Villanea and Byron Arce, two of the many wait staff at the four restaurants on site at the property. Not renting a car wasn’t a problem, as the Peace Lodge arranged transportation to and from the airport for us, as well as having many excursions from the property itself. Besides the birdwatching tour, there are tours of the entire property, including visiting the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, their animal sanctuary tours, a nighttime frog tour, trout fishing on site, milking a cow, and animal feeding tours, which included feeding toucans, sloths, and hummingbirds. We also got to visit the Poas Volcano and the Doka Coffee Plantation. If you are contemplating going to Costa Rica and you want an absolutely unique experience, the Peace Lodge is the way to go. You will not be disappointed. P.S. This property is in the mountains in a rainforest/cloud forest and there are many steps (many uneven) which need to be navigated getting from place to place. We managed and the property has golf carts to pick you up if needed, but just wanted others to be aware.

Even in the pouring rain we were able to enjoy touring all of the beautiful sights and facilities of Peace Lodge. The rescued animal refuges housed many interesting and well cared for species including toucans, big cats(puma, jaguar, ocelots), sloths, monkeys, snakes and humming birds all in easily accessible confines. We hiked the well maintained and safe trails that lead to the rushing La Paz waterfalls. The lodge had delicious food prepared by expert, creative chefs and served by friendly knowledgeable waiters like Daniel Villanea and Walter Tenorio. The well appointed, artfully and thoughtfully designed room was extremely comfortable and offered a relaxing ambiance with many amenities. We would highly recommend experiencing a stay at the Peace Lodge; it is well worth the price.

A lovely hotel that opens directly into the La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park. All of the animal exhibits in the park are very well-maintained, and we appreciated that the animals we saw were all rescues that could not return to the wild for various reasons. We also got to watch the big cats during their feeding time and learned a lot from the caretakers during that time. Even though it was raining pretty heavily one of the days we were there, we still did the hike to the waterfalls and really enjoyed the views and the spray of water. The extra evening tours were well worth the cost. We did the hummingbird/toucan/sloth feeding and the night frog tour, both led by Pablo. Pablo was very knowledgeable, and getting to feed and interact with the animals was such a unique experience that we were not able to do anywhere else in Costa Rica. We got to the hotel at noon, stayed overnight, and then left around noon the next day. My husband and I felt we had sufficient time to explore the entire park during this period, except the fishing which was not a major draw for us. Our room was so comfy, and the fireplace was great to relax by after spending some time in the rain. The hummingbird feeder on the patio was such a nice touch! All of the food we had at the hotel was great. The staff at the hotel and around the park were all so kind and hospitable!

My wife and I visited The Peace Lodge at Laz Paz Park and were treated like royalty. Our cabana took us back in time in luxury with a comfortable king-size bed, 2 rainfall showers, a jacuzzi, a fireplace, and beautiful amenities. There are many things to do within the Laz Paz private park which are easily accessible including a game reserve (we are always sad when wild animals are away from the wild but they appear to be well cared for), a butterfly and hummingbird sanctuary, and of course 5 beautiful waterfalls, which all have paved walkways. There are several restaurants and the prime dining location provides excellent food and drinks at a fair price. The entire staff was very helpful and friendly with special thanks to Greivin who went out of his way to help us. We highly recommend The Peace Lodge and La Paz Park if you are visiting Costa Rica. - Bob and Brenda

I had been to the gardens in the past, but only for the day. My husband and I just spent 5 days at Peace Lodge. It was a perfectly amazing time. The staff was incredible from the moment we arrived. Always willing and eager to help! The rooms are like paradise! We have traveled all over the world and highly recommend this unique experience. The hummingbird feeders on the balconies are beautiful to watch. We had several tours, but by far was the night feeding of the animals!! 5 star for sure.
