Park Royal Beach Resort Huatulco

My wife and I, both in our sixties, have been frequenting Huatulco for about a dozen years. In the past we have always stayed at the resort next door to the Park Royal. Due to budget restraints, (retired) we decided to try the Park Royal. As in previous reviews by others, this awesome resort is built on the side of a mountain, and as such, for the most part requires at least some transportation to get around by the use of their motorized efficient trollies. My wife has slight mobility issues and with a little bit of planning, there were no issues in getting around. There are only about 140 rooms at this hotel, so one must realize that the buffet is rather limited. The food, I thought, was plentiful and satisfying, but if you are a Foodie, and expect 2 different types of Caviar and a chef on a separate table carving Prime Rib, this hotel probably is not for you. There are two pools, one up and the other by the beach next to the buffet restaurant. The upper one is rather quiet, and we never had a problem getting a lounger by the pool even at 1pm in the afternoon. No 5am towel games here. The rooms are huge and the balconies are massive and overlooking the bay. What really makes this hotel so intimate are the staff. From the front end to the management to Simon the pool guy. Everyone quite amazing and willing to help you make your stay enjoyable. There is also a n entertainment stage in the buffet restaurant area that has performances nightly that are geared toward the province of Oaxaca. The Funtastic Crew of entertainers keep things lively during the day at the lower pool. My wife and I decided to return to this resort in mid February for my Birthday( a big one) but thats another excellent review. In closing just a small word of advice. This hotel seems to cater to the Mexican Nationals so it is an advantage to know a bit of Spanish. Makes it easier for everything. The front desk, for the most part, is able to change pesos. There are many tours available both at the hotel andon the beach. My wife and I like taking a 100 peso cab ride to Laboucana for a Mud Bath bythe ocean. Quite the experience. Walking around at night in Huatulco is safe and should be encouraged.

This was our 3rd visit to Park Royal,,, previously 2017 and in 2008 when it was the Crown Pacific. We noticed big changes from our first two visits ,,, all good,,, super clean, lots of freindly staff,, lots of modern upgrades to public washrooms, (modern toilets,auto lights and wash sinks) cleaning staff everywhere working hard keeping all areas clean. Our room was on the same level as the 7th floor pool,,, 2 double beds , new toilet and shower,, huge balcony and great air conditioning. Food was good and we never had any stomach issues the whole 2 weeks of our holiday. Ate most our breakfasts at the 7th floor dining area mostly because it was so close to our room. Had our fair share of great burgers and fries at the 7th floor pool bar and then for dinner either ate at the main buffet 5 or 6 times, Italian alacart 2 or 3 times and the other half dozen dinners went to Santa Cruz or La Crucecita. As others have mentioned if you have mobility this may not be the place for you,,, even though there is shuttles to move you around there is stairs everywhere in this complex.. Having said that my wife and I are well into our 60,s and have no problem getting around as we are walkers in in good shape. The guest,s at the time of our stay was probably about 30% Canadian and 70% Mexican tourists which is fine with us,,, we found everyone quite freindly. My wife and I have been to the the Huatulco area 9 or 10 times in the last 25 years and picked the Park Royal this year mostly because of the price at the time we booked worked out cheaper then booking a separate flight and accommodations as we have done several times in the past years. Having said that we had a great holiday and would not hesitate to recommend the Park Royal to anyone thinking of visiting Huatulco. Thankyou to the management and all staff.... Job Well Done

What a relaxing hotel - the views are beautiful, the staff above and beyond their duties for helpfulness. My husband had a fall and the security medic and a translator arrived to help him. They had a doctor come and follow up with his care. Carlos the manager personally checked on us daily and had our meals delivered to our room till my husband was up to getting around again. Many thanks for making what could have been a shortened holiday into a wonderful relaxing time in Huatulco.

This resort is built on a steep hill with buildings on 10 levels. We loved the feel, design and atmosphere of the place. Shuttles run up and down the switch back roads regularly. We are in our 70's and were on the 10th level with a great view of the ocean. We used the shuttles but also frequently walked up and down. Getting around could be inconvenient for someone with health/mobility issues. Our room was very clean and large with a separate sitting area and huge deck. 30+ degrees every day but the air conditioning is more than adequate. There is one buffet and 2 a-la-carte restaurants. Food was generally pretty good. There are 2 pools - one at the beach and one on the 7th level. Beach pool was an activity spot and somewhat noisy. The upper pool was quieter with a great view. There were also chairs and shelters on the beach and most days the ocean was calm enough for swimming. There is a gym with free weights and some weight machines. No aerobic exercisers. We stayed for 9 days and overall enjoyed our stay and would consider a return stay.

All the staff were excellent! All were welcoming, friendly, went out of their way to be helpful. Especially kudos to Leticia and Maria, and to Isai and Gadiel for their excellent and professional service. The room was large & comfortable, with a very comfortable bed. The view was spectacular. We were pleased to discover that the buffet had a variety of foods every day. The Italian a la carte had good food but we were disappointed in the Mexican a la carte. We wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone with mobility issues because of the steep hills and stairs to get anywhere. The pool on the 7th floor was very enjoyable and always benches available. The staff worked very hard to keep the facilities, bathrooms, guest rooms and the pools cleaned all the time, and the gardens are very well maintained. The drivers for the shuttles around the resort were always very accommodating and helpful. Disappointed by the beach, which was quite steep and difficult for walking on. We enjoyed the birds, iguanas and other wildlife around the resort. The evening shows were enjoyable, especially the Mexican cultural content, but sometimes got far too loud as the evening wore on, so we'd have to leave before the show was over.

This was our 4th visit and the most disappointing. We paid a premium for a suite and found there were no lounges on the balcony. On past visits we have enjoyed the lounges on our balcony, so it was odd they would have removed them. There was also the usual problem of inadequate seating down at the pool and beach. One major annoyance was that we were expected to check out at noon and relinquish beach towels and the right to lunch. With a late flight home, that meant we had hours to kill with no drinks, food or swimming. At every other resort we've visited in Mexico late arrivals/departures are allowed to check out of the room but still have lunch and drinks because they missed it on day one. The Park Royal wanted 380pesos each for the privilege and said it was their new policy! The food was okay, except for the Italian restaurant, where good ingredients were destroyed and served lukewarm. I requested my lasanga be reheated, which may be why I then got horrible diarrhea! We won't be visiting a 5th time.
