Load music was played in the reception area until 10 at night. The double glazing was poor and road noise intrusive. Swimming pool was small for the size of the hotel and number of guests. Nothing in the fridge no milk not even bottled water. A biscuit would have been nice!

Just got home from 12 wonderful days in Honolulu and a fabulous stay at The Moana Surfrider! Great location, loved The Veranda for our meals, and this time even had “Afternoon Tea” - what a treat. GM Thomas Foti oversees a great property and goes beyond the call of duty....

My wife and I love this hotel. We've spend many of our wedding anniversaries here over the last 25 years. The history, the location, and especially the staff are amazing. BUT, it really feels like they're letting the property slip into less than pristine condition. Just a few examples: The rooms in the historic Banyon wing really need some attention--Many of the blinds are broken. The shower looks terrible. The furniture is really showing it's age. Then, there are the very uncomfortable lounge chairs at the pool, the rigid metal frame seems to hit at all the wrong places. I could go on but I'd also like to say something positive... Most the staff at the hotel are simply amazing people. Pool staff (Colin, Kaiya, Isaac) are so helpful and friendly, staff at breakfast time on the Veranda are equally great (Alyssa always has a warm welcome at the hostess desk). And maintenance was friendly and quick to respond when we had an issue with our room safe. So, can I recommend the hotel, and will we return? Probably "yes" but mostly for the location, the history, and the staff...the hotel itself has lost some luster.

We visited the Moana Surfrider cafe for drinks after a day on the island, just for drinks and light bites to eat. It's a beautiful venue, with superb patio overlooking the beach and sea views. They had a live Hawaiian guitar player. It's worth stopping here for a few beers...

We visited the Moana Surfrider cafe for drinks after a day on the island, just for drinks and light bites to eat. It's a beautiful venue, with superb patio overlooking the beach and sea views. They had a live Hawaiian guitar player. It's worth stopping here for a few beers and we chose the Nacho dish with raw fish. It is pricy though! Check the menu for prices before you sit down.

We stayed at the Surfrider February 1st through the 6th (2025). I really loved the old style of this place. It exudes history everywhere I looked. We were in whatever the wing on the north side of the courtyard is called -- not the newest very tall wing, but the one right by the pool. It had a great view of the courtyard and its very beautiful banyan tree that is over 120 years old. We also had a view of the beach and ocean and were able to watch all of the surfer students out every morning "learning", hee hee. The staff were friendly and engaged and helpful when I asked questions. The bar was OK. It's a hotel bar, so nothing special, but it did have the views of the beach and ocean. Also some sort of live music almost every night (maybe every night, we missed a night or two, doing other things.). The bar prices are about what most hotel bars are. I again loved the banyan tree! The room (659) was OK. The carpet was a bit dated, but it was clean and I loved the pattern. The bathroom was tiny, but this is an original tower, I believe, so YMMV. We purposely avoided the "balcony" rooms because the hotel site told us they were being renovated. I'm not sure why other people are so upset about the work going on -- the site clearly mentioned it. Anyhow, my only negative feedback about the room is that it didn't have enough power outlets. There was an outlet behind the bed and a power strip on one side of the bed, but nothing on the other side of the bed. I had to improvise to charge my phone at night. One super negative item to me is the valet parking fee. It's $65 per night to valet!! That's almost highway robbery.

My wife and I just stayed here jan31 -feb 2nd for 2 days. We made the right choice as we were back and fourth on where to stay. Beautiful hotel . Love the old style but beautiful. Didn’t feel at all like a huge hotel at all. We were greeted very nicely by the Valets and the front desk. I forget who served me at the front desk upon arrival but she was very nice. I did talk to Cindy the next day and she was very very nice and helped me out with my late checkout. We got a fantastic room. I wanted an ocean front high floor with a balcony. We most certainly got it . My wife and I are all about the view and we got it . Rooms are not huge but that’s ok. We have balcony with 2 rocking chairs. Great atmosphere outside at the bar. Staff, drinks food all excellent. Nice view as well. We had dinner at the beach house. Great great dinner . Great location in the heart of Waikiki. The only negative I had after staying here for 2 days and spending almost $3000.00 was when I checked out . The front desk girl could have asked how my stay was and if I enjoyed myself . Nothing , a little disappointed in that . But everyone else was great. We will be coming back next year

Those who gave a 5-star review must not have ever stayed at a luxury hotel or are Marriott bots. I’m not sure what the point of this review or any survey is due to all of the copy and pasted responses from “Hotel Executive Offices”. *No Titanium Elite upgrade at check-in despite the fact that website showed availability. *CHEAP FOAM PILLOWS and no more feather pillows provided at hotel. This is completely offensive. Having not slept well for 3 nights was ALMOST the final straw. *Tired looking rooms in need of renovation. Dirty and badly stained carpet getting off elevators. *Water to be shut off in our block of rooms from 9-3 (all-day) with apparently “no other rooms available.” *Hotel had power outage that lasted for a few hours. Had to shower in the dark on the day water was supposed to be off. *Could not open balcony door for fresh air. I understand not being able to use the balcony but the rooms were stuffy. *Constant jackhammering heard all over the beach and pool. *The FINAL STRAW: day 3 with another notice that the water was being shut off again from 9-3.

I recently stayed at the Westin Waikiki, and it was an absolute dream from start to finish. The moment I stepped into the lobby, I felt welcomed by the warm, professional staff who went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. My room was spacious, beautifully designed, and offered a breathtaking view of Waikiki Beach—waking up to the sound of the waves was pure bliss. The amenities really set this place apart. The pool area was pristine, with plenty of comfy lounge chairs and a friendly poolside bar that served refreshing drinks and tasty snacks. The on-site restaurants were also excellent, featuring a great range of menu options and fresh, local ingredients. After a day of exploring or lounging on the beach, I loved coming back to relax in the spa—highly recommend booking a massage! Above all, the location is unbeatable. You’re steps away from the iconic beach and within easy walking distance of top-notch dining, shopping, and nightlife. If you’re looking for a luxurious, hassle-free stay in Waikiki, the Westin absolutely delivers. I can’t wait to visit again!

This was a poor experience overall, and not what one expects from a supposedly luxury hotel. Read the RECENT reviews, not old ones---all the negative reviews are correct. We paid a bucket to stay here and it resulted in a disappointing vacation. 1) Expect NOTHING from being a Marriott member, even if you're Platinum or Titanium. Our "room upgrade" was to a tiny room with a partial view that was VERY noisy. There are NO quiet rooms in this hotel; you either face the courtyard with loud music until 10 PM every night, or the equally noisy rooms facing the street and other hotel properties. For a luxury property, rooms are merely average (if that). They did offer us an upgrade in the wing undergoing renovation---with a water cutoff from 9 am to 3 PM every day! 2) The "free Continental breakfast" for platinum+ was the worst I've had on ANY Marriott property, even their lower-end hotels (e.g. a Fairfield). You get a regular croissant, an egg-and-sausage croissant, plain yogurt, and mainland fruit (e.g. unripe strawberries and melons, not local papaya or mango---which is available on the buffet, but not for you!). No choice of pastry. No cereal or oatmeal, which certainly wouldn't cost them much; instead they choose to antagonize loyalty members. 3) They do indeed nickel and dime customers. The continental breakfast issue is apparently to force you to upgrade to their expensive breakfast buffet at an additional $28 per person. They also charge a non-negotiable daily resort fee for things that no one wants (like free yoga lessons) even if you don't use or want any of those services. 4) They have no club lounge (which would have solved the breakfast problem) --having closed it, nor do they have a hot tub ("because we're an old hotel"), nor do they have a free coffee station in the lobby (like most other luxury hotels), nor is the pool usable for relaxation given the significant noise of renovations. 5) With a few rare exceptions, the employees are either disengaged, unempowered or unhelpful. I was told that they don't let guests choose their own continental pastries (as at all other Marriotts I've been to) because they are "not owned by Marriott, but only managed by them"---the same as 96 to 99% of ALL OTHER Marriott-logoed hotels! He also said that "in his 15 years employed here I was the first one to complain about the Continental breakfast" when, if you read even a few of the other reviews here, you can see that it is a frequent source of complaint. Apparently Platinum+ members can't be trusted to select their own pastries and fruit here, as we can at pretty much all other Marriott hotels. If they would prefer to alienate their best customers over something as small as a pastry, just think what the rest of your experience is likely to be. I did ultimately succeed in securing oatmeal as an alternative breakfast (by speaking to the restaurant manager) but it shouldn't have been as much trouble as it was, for something as minor and inexpensive as oatmeal. 6) Worst of all, on the day it rained buckets, and everyone was pretty much confined to the hotel, they closed EVERY BAR AND RESTAURANT IN THE HOTEL from 3 to 5:30 PM. Competent managers would have maybe looked at a weather report, and planned accordingly to move the bar inside in advance with appropriate staffing. Employees (gathered around the inside bar talking and joking with each other) were clearly uninterested in helping out; some said they had to "set up for dinner" and others said they were having a "staffing changeover". One pays for a luxury hotel precisely to avoid such shoddy customer service. The Moana is nearly 125 years old and is a beautiful old hotel. So of course it needs maintenance. But they shouldn't charge the prices they do WHILE that maintenance is ongoing. Avoid this hotel until at least July 2025, when the noisy renovations are supposed to be done. I normally stay at Marriott brands so that I can enjoy Platinum benefits, but I could have easily stayed at the nearby Hilton (where I am a gold member) and been treated better than as a Platinum member at this hotel.

This was our second time staying at the hotel and really enjoyed our experience again. The hotel staff is always friendly and very helpful in finding your way around. The breakfast buffet is remarkable. And, our room with the king bed was clean and comfy. The only downside was you could not open the balcony doors due to a safety concern. Hopefully they will get that worked out soon. Always enjoyed ending our evening at the bar by the beach/pool. Love the tiki drinks! We will definitely be back.

Banyan wing rooms are smallish, tiny postage stamp bathrooms and no balconies. Pool area needs updating and new lounge chairs. Bed was very comfortable and wifi and tv very good.

We had planned to stay here back in March 2020. Literally were due to arrive the day everything started shutting down. Decided to give it another try. We stayed in the original building and so glad we did. It didn't have that cookie cutter resort feel to it. Loved the history behind it. Our room, though on the smaller side as to be expected, was actually perfect for the 2 of us. We've stayed in many hotels with large dining areas, sofas etc. but didn't have a need for that. Very comfortable king sized bed, pillows were great. Bathroom, again small, but functional. There was a hanging closet and 2 bedside dressers. Not a large one which was fine for us. Fridge that actually worked, Keurig and regular coffee maker. We went across the street to Target and bought Lion coffee pods. The provided Aquafina bottles for free. We had a banyan/ocean view so it was beautiful. Our room looked over the banyan courtyard which could be considered "noisy" but it was from the restaurant that included nightly entertainment. Each night was different and it did promptly stop at 10:00 on the weeknights. I can't remember the weekend hours. If there wasn't any of that noise then all you heard were the waves of the ocean. Front desk was eh. My husband had called ahead to see if they did anything special since it was our 30th anniversary. All the person said was check the website which didn't really have any info. When we physically checked in, they didn't seem too interested either. BUT the true aloha came from the everyone else we encountered. The housekeeping was SUPER friendly and welcoming. Every single one. We ate at all the different dining options including the poolside snack bar, multiple times. They were ALL so nice! The food was actually amazing too. Yes, pricey but a. you are at a hotel and b. you are at a hotel in Hawaii. Did a few yoga classes too. The only downside was that it was a bit hard to hear because of the waves which were literally a few feet away. All in all, it was super enjoyable. So happy we were able to make it.

As you can see, prices now on the island for 'anything and everything' are UP - sky high and probably because they have all 'banded together' hopefully to help Lahaina rebuild (if in fact it actually gets to Maui) BUT it sure puts a damper in most of the well...

As you can see, prices now on the island for 'anything and everything' are UP - sky high and probably because they have all 'banded together' hopefully to help Lahaina rebuild (if in fact it actually gets to Maui) BUT it sure puts a damper in most of the well loved local spots that frequent travelers to Oahu used to frequent. But now, we searched for other spots, more reasonably priced. For example: we used to love a Mai Tai at the Banyan bar in the Moana and also high tea on the veranda. Both out of the question now; mai tai's $21 per person (totally ridiculous) and high tea $73! Do your research folks; find local spots and those offering a happy hour; you'll love you experience on Oahu so much better if you do.
