Sadly got food poisoning at this outdated hotel

- The hotel is quite outdated. Most of the facilities and decorations are from the 90s (especially the gym). Have never been to any hotel room that does not have a charging point near any of the bedside table. TV is small and not a smart TV. Even we had a Google stick, it does not work very well.
- Food quality control - should provide better food instead of cheap turkey meat from the grill at the main restaurant. Not enough variety for fruit. Cold plates are all from cheap ingredients such as cucumber, low-quality cheese, salami etc. The bread selection was not great, very dry most of the time. They needed more staff in the main restaurant for the rush hours, sometimes we sat or stood by the table and waited for our cutlery. The service was good though, staffs were nice.
- Not enough sunbeds at the beach or pool.
- Some days we didn't have the minibar filled which was not a big problem but we didn't have bottled water for one day.
- After food poisoning, the service was really good, the team offer free room service for the customised food that we were allowed to eat (boiled chicken, carrots etc) but the customer relationship manager insist that there're bugs going around and it's not food poisoning. However, it happened the second to third day after we arrived and ate the all-inclusive meals from the hotel. We have never been outside the hotel or consumed anything aside from what we were provided.

We visited this hotel in early October. Transfer was approx 40 minutes from the airport & the hotel is very impressive when you arrive. Check in was quick & we were taken to our room on a golf buggy & the porter was very friendly. The resort is pretty large & set up like a village. We used the main pool & never had problem getting a sun lounger with a parasol. Had drinks orders taken from our sunbed which was a nice touch. The main buffet was more like a canteen, so we sat on the terrace & the staff were always polite even thou they were always busy. Breakfast was our favourite meal in the main buffet has we both struggled with lunch & dinner, always managed to find something but with odd combinations. We booked the restaurants on the app before we arrived. We ate at Asian, Italian, Mediterranean & Pacifico & we enjoyed all of these with lovely staff. We enjoyed the mojitos & pina coladas.
The beach has a small seating area & it was lovely to sit with a drink, my husband did snorkel most days.
There are several shops which sells some lovely stuff & holiday essentials.
We were also unsure if you can visit the other Mitsis resorts close by.
We did have a few issues with our room but when reported to reception was dealt with very efficiently. We did request certain drinks in our mini bar but that never happened which was disappointing. The room was comfy & plenty of sockets, we were in block 3 so was perfect & a side sea view when sitting on the balcony overlooking the private pools.
There was also an issue with a member of the bar staff team & this is where our holiday ended. When asked by reception have we had a nice time we then explained all the little issues we had & the bar staff member. We were sent to guest relations to whom we explained all the issues. She sent us to breakfast & said to come back. Yes this was our last full day & took up over an hour of our precious time but OMG on our return a manger was called & they certainly know how to deal with guests & complaints. We get things go wrong but it’s always how things are put right & the staff certainly did this for us. This was such a shame that we had these issues & not what you expect from a 5 star hotel.
The only thing that was missing is a snack bar thru out the day around the main pool, yes there is a creperie which was lovely but not everyones taste. Also it’s a shame the Italian restaurant doesn’t open in the evening.
Would we return to a Mitsis, yes we would & would love to give them the opportunity to provide a great stay.

The airport experience and flight with BA was smooth and comfortable. A slight delay but our transfer was waiting for as we came out from arrivals.
Though we have nothing to compare to we absolutely loved Mitsis Royal Mare. Beautiful surroundings, easy to navigate, spacious and clean.
Our room was lovely, though one of us is a light sleeper and if we return we will request an upstairs room as a couple of nights it was noisy due to the tiled floor above us. However, when we mentioned this in a mid-stay review we were immediately contacted to offer us a new room.
There are a number of restaurants plus the buffet. The food was amazing, lots of choice, plenty of drinks and beautiful cocktails, with lots of choice at the main Minis bar.
The staff cannot do enough for you. Do visit Alicia the Concierge if you want to discuss anything or organise an excursion. We had a wonderful evening of food and entertainment at a Cretan village.
Try and visit the spa and include a lovely massage. There’s lots to choose from and it was a real treat.
Unfortunately we cannot name all the staff who made our stay so special. We tried to head towards lovely Rena’s section for breakfast, she was a real sweetheart, but everyone was so kind and nothing was too much trouble.

My partner and I travelled to Crete on the 16th of September and stayed until the 22nd.
It was a marvellous experience residing in a hotel such as Mitsis Royal Mare.
We had a shared pool right outside our room, which was one of the best ways to start our day, as we would wake up, and instantly jump into the pool, before breakfast.
The room was comfortable, spacious, there was jacuzzi included as well, and the temperature of the room was perfect at all times.
The 5 different a la carte restaurants had a huge variety of food, the buffet was always available and food was restocked often, so we had a lot to choose from, but none did disappoint.
On another note, the staff was always available and caring to our needs, the attention to our needs was on top, we felt like royalty, and even though the hotel is HUGE , due to the fact that there are workers that drove us around all the time, and everywhere, it was a great option for us to move around with baggage or without, around the different falicities Mitsis Royal Mare has to offer.

Recently had a wonderfully relaxing 7 night stay at the Mitsis Royal Mare and from arrival to departure had a fabulous time. We were upgraded to a bungalow with a shared pool, which was excellent. Everywhere was kept spotlessly clean by the hardworking domestic staff. Food in the main restaurant was very good (although could perhaps have been a little hotter) with a wide choice to suit all tastes and the theme nights also excellent. We dined at the Pan Asian and South American a la carte restaurants and the food, drinks and service was excellent and thoroughly recommended. Special thanks to all the staff at the main bar (Minos), the main restaurant and the main pool bar, every single one of them were superb, just wish I had managed to get all their names to thank them personally. The staff here again, like all the Mitsis hotels we've stayed at are outstanding, friendly and professional and a credit to the Mitsis organisation. Thank you once again for a wonderful stay.

Nothing was too much trouble, for the staff at Mitsis Royal Mare. You are consistently greeted with a smile and warmth, I’d particularly like to thank Marianna at reception. She was exceptional; a professional and caring individual, not only fulfilling her duties to an excellent standard but going the extra distance to ensure guests are looked after (especially when poorly). Our group are extremely appreciative of her efforts, and hope that she is recognised for her professionalism.

Grounds and pool area nice, rooms average and food dreadful. Just spent 10 days at this hotel, all seemed well with an upgrade, only to find it was a tired room in main building, the shower door was no existent, with dirty and unhygienic surroundings. We did get a better room after complaining which was a better with an upgraded bathroom. The food can only be described as a race to the bottom, 90% processed tastless food, that you wouldn't be happy with at 3 star hotel, it was no better in the al le Carte restaurants, the best selling item at the mini market was immodium. Thank goodness we had hired a car and could get out of hotel to eat.
