The positives: The hotel was clean and in a really good location. with great transport links, being close to Omonia square, which is on two of the three metro lines. The negatives: There was a day where there was no hot water. This ruined the day being unable to shower or cleanse. It also happened to be our final day so it made travelling home much worse. They did not give any reason or explanation. Our room was not serviced everyday, we stayed a week and on three days it was not serviced, which was disappointing. On check out they also did not ask us how our stay was, again this was unusual. The breakfast room was never too busy, however the choice was limited and this became very bland by day three.

The service provided by the F&B manager Marina was extremely well organized. We found her to be friendly, polite and professional. Special thanks to the Chef Konstantinos Boursiakis and his team for all their valuable help in preparing an absolutely superb menu whilst including our special dietary restrictions. We received nothing but praise from all of our guests for a truly delicious buffet that helped to make our special night truly unforgettable.

Positive comments first: The hotel employees are nice and dedicated. Service staff in the breakfast area - especially Sara - did a great job and house keeping/cleaning was excellent. Not to forget, the view from roof top area (Fitness room as well) to Acropolis awesome. But we also have to comment: It was more than annoying that air conditioning in our room couldn`t be fixed during our 7 days stay. We had 24°C during night and couldn`t open windows. Although we have had booked an expensive VIP Access room in the upper floor, we weren`t offered an alternative room or at least a small compensation of some kind. And our worst experience: We lost money from our room safe!!! Staff at reception were polite but not helpful. We rather were indicated, that we may have "lost" the money somewhere else!! Thus our strong recommendation for a stay in this Melia Athens: DON`T leave money in your room safe.

A good location for walking to attractions or getting the metro. We felt safe in the area Cannot comment on breakfast as we booked room only and ate breakfast in various locations around the hotel (much cheaper!). We ate 2 lunches and dinner one evening by the pool and the food was delicious but a little over priced. The room was a good size (had superior) with blackout curtains and faced the street over the entrance. We had some street noise but this is to be expected. There are obscure windows in the bathroom which could wake up other occupants in the room at night when the light is switched as it shines brightly through. The bathroom, whilst a good size with lovely Rituals shower gel etc, needs a good clean/repair. The hose to the shower was black at the bottom - clearly not been cleaned in a long time and the whirl pool bath nozzles contained residue (perhaps mould or old soap). When you filled the bath (never did get the whirlpool to work), some of the contents around the nozzles, floated in the bath water - not pleasant! Also the wash basin had an odour and I wonder how often the drains are cleaned. I requested a kettle which was promptly delivered but without cups but these were quickly sourced. For the first 3 days the cups were not cleaned or renewed. On the 4th they were removed and not replaced. I requested new ones and eventually collected them myself as they were taking so long to arrive. Similarly my water glass was not washed all week! They tried to charge for an item from the minibar which we did not have. This was taken off the bill after a conversation and I had to sign something to say I hadn’t had it. Check in was more friendly than check out and we were not asked if we’d enjoyed our stay. I would stay here again for the convenience and the wonderful pool and view from the rooftop. However Inwould ask to see the room and especially the bathroom before unpacking!

Nice hotel with a superb rooftop pool and bar allowing you to enjoy the sight of the Acropolis in the distance. Loved the pool area but was disappointed with the bedroom. The bathroom light design meant that when visiting the toilet in the night the light shone through into the bedroom waking the other occupant. The breakfast buffet was quite comprehensive. We enjoyed our stay, however, the noise from the streets outside gave us very little sleep over the 2 nights we were there.

The hotel itself is okay . The location is a 25-30 minute walk to the main attractions . The room isn’t anything special . No coffee pot , basic bed , a view of the apartment building next door . Also a stagnant smell throughout the hotel . The highlight is the rooftop pool that overlooks the city. As for the rest of my stay.. The point of this review as that a member of the staff stole items from me. I got lazy at the end of our vacation and chose to leave my necklace on the counter with my belongings as we were just going out for dinner and I trusted the previously good reviews of this hotel . After the police report was made and I was getting ready later in the day , I also noticed my perfume was missing from my cosmetics bag . This means staff went into my bag … apparently guests also also need to put hygienic items in the safe as well ? Overall I did not appreciate the treatment by hotel management . I have never accused any hotel staff of anything like this . I was clearly visibly upset when the housekeeping manager came in the room that morning and told me no one had come into our room when the necklace went missing . I find it odd the manager doesn’t know you have turn down service … she then proceeded to call the morning staff cleaning member and laugh on the phone with her saying she knows she wasn’t in the room that night . Completely unprofessional when someone is missing something important to them . The front desk manager then read the key card and indeed found someone had entered our room when the necklace went missing ….. I know this isn’t proof but the likelihood the two are connected is pretty obvious . The staff member was then called and of course said they didn’t know anything about my necklace . Case closed ! The manager then stated well they don’t know anything about it what do you want to do about it ? The staff questioned me multiple times about if I checked my room and looked under the bed and in the sink , but you take your employee at face value . You clearly trust them by their word the first time but not my ability to look before I accuse someone of something serious . The only thing I wanted was for staff to at least pretend to care. I was never offered a simple I’m sorry or we take this seriously . The only compensation I was offered was a coffee and a chair to sit in while I wait for the police . I then emailed the management upon checking out who again told me that they recruit and employ only the best and I should try to recall where I last had my necklace . Your staff stole my necklace and my perfume. Obviously I should have put my necklace away in the safe or hidden it better . This is just a warning to future guests that there is a thief among the staff at the Melia Hotel in Athens and the management takes them at their word. To the person who stole my cross and St Michael necklace , I hope you needed it for personal reasons, because the makeup you left behind was worth more than the necklace.

Upon checking in, I was told I had no choice to give a credit card for a €100 'hold' on my card, for minibar, room service etc. Upon checkout, I was told it was easier for my to pay for the things charged to my room separately upfront, as it's easier to release the full €100 on the card. It had been over a month and a half and this money has not been returned. I have contacted and been ignored by the hotel staff, clearly just a way to rip you off. Additionally, the hotel take as many walk ins from the street for the pool as possible, so good luck getting a space if you're a guest.

Melia Athens was booked as a chance to slow things down after 2 weeks of aggressive touring. Our stay there was terrific in more ways than we expected. We knew about the rooftop infinity pool with a stunning view of the Acropolis. But the privately managed spa on that floor motivated us to add massage to the relaxation theme. We also returned to the rooftop setting for lovely, soothing nighttime views. Our room was spacious, attractive and comfortable. It was serviced as frequently as we wished. And was that real marble in the bathroom? On the subject of service, the front desk staff was always available and willing. But excelling at a whole other level was Denise. Her efforts and presence during this stay will be a lasting part of our Athens memories! The property is attractive and well kept. The location is slightly removed from the mayhem of the crowded tourist areas, yet only a 20 minute walk if you want to go. There is also a major metro station a couple of blocks away. We bought the breakfast inclusion and it was a pretty solid buffet to launch the day. Dinner at the rooftop restaurant was overpriced, but there was that evening view which could be enjoyed with a beverage instead.

Did a short stay at this hotel before a cruise out of Piraeus. Professional and warm welcome as members with Melia. Our room was comfortable and clean, however the mattress I found on the very soft side. Very nice roof-top pool area with views to Akropolis. The price was O.K. Easy to get a taxi outside, flat taxi fare from the hotel to the cruise port in Piraeus was 25 Euros, the hotel ordered one for us. Taxi flat rate from the airport to the hotel was supposed to be 40 Euros, but the driver demanded 45 Euros after leaving the airport! The only problem we had was that our credit card was charged for minibar consumption after our departure even if we never use the minibar in any hotel we stay in. It took me several emails and more than two weeks to get this issue corrected. I see from other reviews here that we are not the first guests that are mistaked charged for minibar consumption in this hotel, probably caused by the fact that the minibar is not fully stocked when you arrive in your room. The hotel should sharpen it's routines in this regard. However, I would gladly use this hotel on my next trip to Athens if for a short stay before a cruise. And the reason for saying short stay, is because of the location of the hotel. The location is central yes, but not in a nice area of town - the neighbourhood looks rather ugly and it didn't feel safe to walk around, our taxi driver also warned us that the neighbourhood was not safe, so we spent most of the time in the hotel.

This was a stay of two halves. In some respects we had a great time but the inconsistencies were annoying. Pros: -Good room (Executive suite), huge comfy bed, nice lounge area in the room, comfy sofa, clean room. -Price was really good. -The rooftop pool was never too crowded, you could always get a lounger and the view to the acropolis was cool. -Our fellow guests were nice and polite - quite a young crowd. -Check in and out were both swift. Cons: -The bathroom drains really smelled one day. It went after they serviced our room. -They did not service our room one day even though we were out from 7.15am-1.15pm so we had to call for it to be done. -They did a turn down service one evening but not the next - I don’t need it but it just showed a lack of consistency. -They refilled our water one day, but not another. -There is no shade on the sun loungers by the pool, only at the tables. -They were charging €14 for a portion of fries at the pool bar (ludicrous!) - it’s much better value to get a club sandwich that comes with fries. -There were two tvs in our room - so when you turned one on, they both came on. Obviously the remote is the same for both tvs so both tvs react - not ideal for the person who’s in bed! -Like all other hotels in the world it seems, they had motion smoothing mode on the tv which is so awful to watch - there is no way to turn this off (and we tried!!) so I just couldn’t watch the tv. -The lifts took ages to come every single time. -The shower leaked water all over the bathroom floor. This made it very slippery. -Our status means we get late checkout at 4pm when available. We asked about this multiple times and they told us to keep checking back. Eventually on the morning of checkout they confirmed it. Too much back and forth on that. -The afternoon that we had a late checkout our room key stopped working - always annoying. My husband went down to Reception to get it sorted. Whilst he was gone, I waited outside our room (in wet pool stuff) and a member of staff came by and asked if I had a late checkout. I explained that our room key wasn’t working and he just walked off to speak to a staff member who was cleaning a room a few doors down, leaving me still outside the room, which didn’t seem like the best service. Thankfully the cleaning lady came and let me in as soon as he had left. It’s interactions like that which show that this is not a 5* hotel. Overall: I would stay here again. The room was good, and that’s the main thing, but it would be nice for the hotel to think about all those small things which can really elevate a stay.

The hotel is very average. It is clean and tidy with decent sized rooms. The hotel in general is a bit dated with no smart tv in the rooms and rooms lacking any sort of amenities hairdryer etc. The location is a bit far out of the centre and is in a very rough run down area. It’s about 20 minute walk into the main centre. The free WiFi is terrible and is basically unusable but I’m guessing this is on purpose so you buy premium. Positives are the the roof top pool and bar area are great and the gym is nice to have as well.

Me and my wife where in Athens for a football match between Greece and Scotland, and both of us had really wanted to see Athens for many years (our only trip to Greece had been to Rhodes back in 2008) and were not going to pass up a chance to see the city. Athens is a strange set up of a city, as what you would consider the centre of the city is not what the locals consider it to be, and none of the hotels near the tourist attractions were taking my fancy. After searching around we were both hooked on the Melia Hotel. Located a stones throw from Omonoia Square, and with good metro access, it suited our needs. Only real disappointment was the roof top pool and bar does not open until May, but we went for a look one night and the view of Athens was really stunning. We arrived at Athens Airport around noon, and while there was public transport options, the price of a Uber was only 10 Euros more than the Metro, and in the heavy afternoon Athens traffic it took us 50 minutes or so to get to the hotel from the airport. Lovely modern hotel, and staff are excellent who will help to get you checked in to your room in no time. My initial thoughts were that the hotel felt more dated than the pictures and photos let on, and yet it didn't have a bad feel about it, and almost a retro feel to it. Room was very spacious with a nice large bed. Only issue was that for March, the room did seem to get very warm no matter the time of day, and the AC seemed to have very little effect, as well as being rather noisy. Area around the hotel can be a little to be desired, as you only need to walk down a street or two and suddenly you are in a area full of Communist and Anarchist Bars, which I found rather cool at first, but at night time the charm does ware off fast. Breakfast was a real plus, as while not a large selection, there is plenty of options that you will get something to your taste, and the kitchen staff keep it coming, so its always hot. For exploring the city, you are probably a 20-25 minute walk to the likes of Monastiraki Square and Syntagma, but also you are only 1 or 2 metro stops from all the major tourist attractions in the city. All in all really pleased with this hotel and would certainly make it my choice of accommodation for any future visits to Athens.
