Matachica Resort

We went snorkeling at Mexico, rocks with Victor. He was very knowledgeable about the sea life and the area. We saw green turtles, nurse sharks, eel and stingrays along with many other types of fish. He was very helpful and entertaining. “Victor The Magnificent”. Thanks for a great adventure.

Terrific place. Staff is super friendly and helpful (special shoutouts to Tony, Florry, Julio, Lucas, and Gustavo). Terrific place. Staff is super friendly and helpful (special shoutouts to Tony, Florry, Julio, Lucas, and Gustavo). The cabins are terrific (just remember to keep the door to the bathroom closed for the air conditioning to be effective). Lots of lounging spaces on the beach, pier, and pool. The former two are laid out for couples with some space for privacy. Food was delicious and did not need to leave the premises for a delicious variety. The chef prepares bread specially for different dishes and each night there is a different featured bread. Nice excursions (we did Hol Chan snorkeling and the Lamanai Mayan complex tour and one of us did the reef fishing). After a successful morning of fishing, we enjoyed the porgys I caught for supper and there was not charge for that meal. Highly recommended. My wife and I tend not to return to beach resorts as we enjoy the variety. Matachica is the rare place we are considering a return. Downsides or small negatives: (a) would not recommend the Captain's Table even though the food was good--our table ordered premeal cocktails and the first dish was served before anyone had anything from the bar; (b) keep the bug spray handy, marshes are never far away on Ambergris and mosquitoes start to congregate if the breeze dies down; and, (c) the delicious food and drink is as pricey as you are going to find on the island and there are not any nearby (easy walking distance) alternatives.

I cannot say enough great things about Matachica. From our arrival via boat to the day we left the resort, everything was amazing! We were only there for a short visit (January 11th-14th), but it was one of the best resorts we've visited, and we are blessed to travel frequently....

I cannot say enough great things about Matachica. From our arrival via boat to the day we left the resort, everything was amazing! We were only there for a short visit (January 11th-14th), but it was one of the best resorts we've visited, and we are blessed to travel frequently. The weather during our stay was perfect, we had one morning when it rained and was a little cloudy, but otherwise no issues. I had originally requested a bungalow with a pool, but decided being directly on the beach would be ideal. I'm so glad we did it. We were in the Papaya bungalow which was about ten feet from the beach. Every morning we watched the sunrise either from our front porch or from our bed. The views were magnificent! The room had everything you needed, and the turndown service at night was wonderful. The beds were so incredibly comfortable and I love there was NO TV. The concierge did the best job setting us up with a golf cart to go to Secret Beach and suggesting restaurants off the property to try. We were celebrating my birthday and did a dinner on the pier one night. The experience was incredible. We had the best moonlight for ambience and the food was delicious (the food was delicious every day...you can't go wrong). My husband knew I really wanted to see sea turtles and Henry was kind enough to offer to take us out for an afternoon, even though we had scheduled a tour the following day. The experience didn't disappoint. We went to two different places, getting off the boat into the water was like jumping into an aquarium. I was able to Zen with turtles at both spots! We also did a sunset cruise one evening, the sunsets are the most incredible I've witnessed. Upon our arrival back to the resort there was live music playing in the bar. We had originally decided against doing the Captain's Dinner, but changed our mind at the last minute and I'm so glad we did! The food was amazing and we met some really fun people. We spent one day at the pool for some relaxation time, it was very relaxing and the bartenders at Danny's Tree Bar make delicious cocktails with fun garnishes shaped in different designs. I felt like everyone went out of their way to make my birthday special, whether it was a welcome message made out of palm leaves on our bed, to a personally hand written note, the MANY birthday treats I had (Key Lime Pie, cakes, fresh papaya when we departed with a Happy Birthday message). It was such a great experience and I highly recommend the resort to anyone wanting to visit Belize who are looking for a relaxing place to stay. I have never seen my husband so relaxed on a vacation! Shout out the Henry and to Archie...and I apologize to those I'm not mentioning because you were all so wonderful!

Have you ever dreamt of a tropical paradise with the most amazing turquoise water, manicured beaches, world class service, delicious food and impeccable watersports… the Matachica Resort and Spa is just that! This is a high end boutique resort with just 32 casitas, a gym, spa, pool/hot tub, tree bar and 2 restaurants. We hand picked Matachica for our birthday celebration, and were blown away by how beautiful the resort accommodations were, and the high end service was amazing! Everyone from the front desk, housekeeping, landscaping team, ocean sports and tour operators were top notch. I’ve traveled a lot and this resort is WOW incredible!!! This is a bucket list resort of your looking to relax, be spoiled, and enjoy the most amazing island in Belize!! Hats off to team Matachica, we will definitely be back!!! Paul

What a magical place! We stayed at Matachica for the last week of January 2025 and had a wonderful time. Our only complaint is that this place may have ruined any future hotel stay elsewhere. It’s hard to imagine anything else measuring up to this. The property is spectacular, and I highly recommend upgrading to one of the sea-view casitas. Waking up to the water right at your door is an incredible experience. The room was spacious and clean, and housekeeping left nice little notes for us each day and were always helpful if we needed anything. All the staff were excellent, particularly Silvano, who ran the outdoor bar during our week. He was very knowledgeable and made delicious cocktails. We enjoyed chatting and joking with him, and he showed us how to win over Taco (the resort’s resident black lab) with a game of ‘fetch the coconut’. Kayaks and snorkel gear are complimentary, and Eli was so friendly and helpful in getting us set to head out to the reef, where we saw nurse sharks, stingrays, and tons of tropical fish and coral. The restaurant was also excellent. Although it is pricier than other places on the island, you get what you pay for. We did not have a single disappointing meal, and you can tell the quality of the ingredients is high. It was an unforgettable stay. We hope to come back one day!

It is not easy striking the balance of elegance and understated while caring for all needs and not being over-the-top. Matachica has done this better than we could have imagined. It is a first class place. Everyday we enjoyed delicious food and drink, endless places to calmly enjoy the water and docks without wondering if we could find a free lounge chair, and snorkeling, kayaking, spa, and biking activities catered for our interests. The staff to a person were exceptionally kind and helpful.

This resort is far from town and gold cart rides are $50 each way. The beach is unusable as it’s full of seaweed and windy. The pool and pool bar closes super early which is not ideal. They advertise bikes for use but the roads on the bikes provided are...

They advertise bikes for use but the roads on the bikes provided are unusable as the road is not paved. I’d stay somewhere else.

We highly recommend the restaurant and renting a golf cart to visit other areas of Amergris Caye.
