Mango Bay Resort was a quite unusual experience. There is a lot to unpack, so if you're thinking of staying here, you might want to stick with me for a minute.
First "Resort" is a bit generous... There is no bar, or restaurant, or any kind of food service. No stores or shops, no spa services, nor are any of these things within walking distance. There is a pool, and a good amount of water toys for both pool and beach, and the charming proprietor, Mary Beth, and the killer water view.
Mary Beth is working hard to get a bar and reaturant on property, and that would make a huge difference.
We were in the 2 bedroom Beachfront Villa... so one of thier higher end options. The upside is these villas, as you can see in the photos, are incredibly close to the water, with breathtaking views. The other side of that coin is that the folks walking and hanging out on the beach are close enough to chat with from your porch, so not a great sense of privacy when you are outside if other people are near you on the beach.
The unit itself was just plain strange. There are two bedrooms and two baths... but both baths were outside the bedrooms, adjacent to each other in a hallway. The kitchen and the dining table were outside on the porch, so shooing away flies was part of any food prep, but the refrigerator was inside, in a corner of the living room, with no counter or table nearby... so even making a sandwich entailed a lot of back and forth. The outdoor kitchen can be closed off with screened doors when not being used, which helps with the flies. The no-see-ums and flies are no worse than anywhere else right on the water, but they will be there - just keep some Off handy if they get pushy.
The main bedroom was nicely sized, great closet and dresser, and nicely cooled by the A/C (which was in both bedrooms), but our bed was not good. A single coil spring matress on a slat platform. And it was well past it's expiration date, with plenty of dips and and squeaks. At $800 a night, I expect a really comfortable bed.
The 2nd bedroom was tiny, so tiny it had no dresser, and the closet was not in the bedroom, but out in the common hall area, which made things a bit awkward.
Bathrooms were acceptable, except for the shower set up. I promise you Motel 6 has better towels, soap and shower condiments. And what I don't understand is this is the cheapest thing to get right. Get a few refillable containers of body wash, shampoo and conditioner, invest in some fluffy towels, and this becomes a selling point instead of an embarrassment.
I mentioned the pool, and it is nice. Seems new... not huge, but very pleasant... same depth everywhere (I think about 5 feet). It is located towards the back of the property, so no water view from the pool, but we spent some very relaxing hours floating there.
I know it sounds like I'm breaking bad here, but we had a nice stay, Mary Beth found us a great driver to take us to dinner each night (Shout out to Clennell!). It's a solid 3 stars... but it's not elegant or luxurious, even at the top end. If the accomodations and the access to dining ever rose to the level of the view - watch out!

We just returned from a wonderful week after staying at this resort. Mary Beth was awesome in making sure we were comfortable. We booked our reservation just a few months before traveling but couldn't get an oceanfront room so we were at the back of the complex which was great too. On the day of our anniversary, I asked Mary Beth if anyone had checked out because I wanted to surprise my husband for the last 2 days staying in a beachfront room and she was able to find one that had just become available. Not only did she check for availability, she and her husband actually moved ALL of our stuff while we were at another beach for the day so I could surprise my husband when we returned. We arrived to find two chocolate cupcakes and a nice bottle of wine with a sweet card and fresh flowers! She always went above and beyond to take care of any of our wishes promptly. The complex is very well situated and private although the buildings are connected. The design of this resort is awesome. We had everything we needed and the beachfront units are definitely the way to book your trip! We definitely want to return to this island and hope we can plan ahead earlier in order to get one of these spectacular units but if not the others are great too.

Absolute PERFECTION! I can’t say enough about this resort. They upgraded us to the Villa upon arrival, and we were literally 15 steps from the water. Beautiful views of Tortola, turquoise water, impeccable landscaping, fully stocked kitchen, saltwater pool with twinkle lights at night. Amenities include kayaks, paddleboards, floats for the ocean and pool, great snorkel gear and more. Daily housekeeping was amazing. You are an 8 minute drive from town (Spanish town) with tons of restaurants, marketplace and shopping. The baths is 15 min away. I recommend renting a car if you can. CocoMaya was our favorite meal, go for sunset! Sunsets are beautiful from Mango Bay though! Only downfall was no restaurant on the resort, but we got groceries and restaurants are a short drive. I HIGHLY recommend this resort!!!

We loved mango bay. It was super private and the view is incredible. Our cleaning person, Keisha, was awesome. She kept our room spotless, was super friendly, and brought us anything we asked for. Most importantly, the bed was comfortable. All that was missing were some amenities. There was no oven (we bought a pizza and couldn’t cook it), no dishwasher, only one ice tray, no colander (Keisha did bring them when I asked though). There is a grill outside but no coal and no suggestion by management where to find any. Our check in with Ashley felt a bit rushed, we didn’t receive much of an introduction to the unit so we had to figure things out each day. The location is picture perfect and the restaurants on the island were incredible (again, we learned it all on our own, management left no book etc. giving us suggestions). We will definitely be back to enjoy the stunning sunsets.

Great people, housing and beaches
A beautiful pristine beach. Great selection of homes, condos and villas to choose from for housing. Virgin Gorda offers great restaurants, beaches and very kind and friendly people. Plenty to do with water activities, tennis courts, diving and boating excursions, and visiting The Baths on the island.
25th wedding anniversary with plenty of Beach time, no worries, feeling like king and queen celebration

If I can describe this place with one word I would chose Paradise! Location is unbelievable. We stayed at the oceanfront Villa and trust me when I say it is a lot better than what you actually see on their website. It has all the amenities you need on a beachfront property. Kayaks, paddle boards, floating mats, snorkeling gear. Just open your front door and you can actually put your feet on the water and start snorkeling from there. Even though corals were starting to grow again, there is a variety of marine life that you can enjoy for hours. We were lucky enough to spot a lobster. Property Manager Ashley was very helpful even when we were still deciding on where to Celebrate our 25th anniversary. She even helped me with a surprise for my husband so when we got the Villa, there was a pretty fruit basket with a Sparkling wine to start our celebration. She even helped us the rental car so they came in to Mango Bay with the car and all we had to do was sign the papers. She also gave us pretty good recommendations on places to have dinner and so on. Our room was big, bed was comfy, spacious bathroom and a living room that overlooks the beautiful beach. The Villa was serviced every single day and the ladies in charge put fresh flowers on our table every day. Location was perfect. We were two minutes away from Savanah Beach and 10 minutes to The Baths. We had a blast and we are planning to return with our kids very soon.

Mango Bay was the perfect place to stay on the island. Our villa on the beach was extremely comfortable and large (good bed, cold a/c, good kitchenette). And the view across the water at sunset in the evening was sublime. The resort had free snorkels, paddle boards and kayaks. Plus a pool. Our host, Ashley, was extremely warm and kind. Mango Bay it-self is located just out of the hustle and bustle of Spanish town and easy drive to good restaurants like Sugercane and Cocomaya. It’s also easy to get food from Riteway. Absolutely loved it and would come back in a heart beat. 💕🌸

My husband and I spent 4 nights at Mango Bay and we had the most wonderful experience! Ashley & Nate could not have been more welcoming and helpful, they really went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The accommodations were lovely and spotless, fresh flowers in the room, fresh beach towels every day. The bed was so comfortable, huge plus. The views are just stunning! Kayaks, paddle boards and snorkel gear were all available for our use and there are multiple beaches easily accessible by kayak. Savannah Bay in particular was incredible, gorgeous blue water, great snorkeling and not at all crowded. There’s also great snorkeling right off the resort beach. You are situated halfway between The Baths and North Sound so the location couldn’t be more convenient. The pool is so beautiful and inviting we wanted to take a break from the beach to enjoy a few hours there too! Gorgeous landscaping everywhere you look. We’d love to return and we just left!

After a long absence due to hurricane Irma, Mango Bay is once again open for business and better than ever—now including a salt water pool.
Before our arrival at the resort, we had groceries shipped from the Tortola Riteway (no association with the drug store) to the Spanish Town dock. Mango Bay’s Nathan was hugely accommodating and picked up, delivered and stored our goods in the room’s kitchenette.
One evening, we noticed Gary, the groundskeeper, knocking down coconuts from the trees at the beach. He subsequently demonstrated his skill with a machete and trimmed off the husks, serving out coconut water and coconut jelly to guests. It was a spontaneous and charming gesture.
We look forward to returning to Mango Bay, as in the past, for kayaking, paddle boarding and lounging while listening to the birds chirping and the waves crashing, all in a genial and relaxed environment.

So I do want to leave a positive review of Mango Bay. The rooms were great, clean and very comfortable. And the location right ON THE BEACH, for the price is amazing! I do want to caution you about booking though.
We went through Expedia to do the booking, and it resulted in a mix up. The issue is that Mango bay has something like 8-9 separate buildings, but they are designed to be separated for smaller rentals, or opened up (through double locked doors) for larger parties who need the entire villa. So you need to pay very close attention to exactly WHAT you are booking. The mix up came in that Expedia listed the room we reserved as a "1 Bedroom Beachfront Suite". Fortunately, we were able to pull up the website and prove that to the property manager- initially, she took us to the "1 Bedroom BeachSIDE Studio", claiming that was what we had reserved. It was not what we anticipated or expected, although we expressed that to the property manager at the time, she insisted that was what we had reserved. Fortunately, after checking on Expedia's website to confirm, we got a hold of her showed her the listing, and after that she was much more helpful. We offered to pay the upgrade to get into the Beachfront Suite (and would have gladly done so), but she insisted that the issue was with Expedia and not our fault, so because it was the low season and they had availability, she moved us to the Beachfront Suite we thought we had booked at no additional charge. Thank goodness, because there is a big difference between those 2 very similar sounding rooms! The beachside suite doesn't have an indoor kitchen, for one. Secondly, the patio does not face the beach directly, so the views aren't as great. It is however, one of the least expensive room, so I don't want to downplay it- it just wasn't what we thought we were getting when we booked, and I thought I had messed up and booked the wrong room.
My point is- I'd advise booking directly through their website, and make SURE you understand what you are renting. I felt like we had a good experience in the end, but only because we were are to show what Expedia said we booked (incorrectly it seems). So that was the one negative and it was resolved to our satisfaction- I just mention it to pay close attention to the booking details for others, and I do recommend booking directly through their website since the rooms are easy to mix up.
Other than that though, everything was very nice. The property manager took a pretty "hands off" approach after we settled (I don't think we saw her again durning our stay), but we did have her number if we needed anything. We did borrow some masks, fins and snorkels, and we did make use of the paddle boards and the kayaks. The bay is beautiful and literally steps to the water from the Beachfront Suite- I don't know of any other property that gives you this for the price on Virgin Gorda!
I will say the masks weren't in the best shape (the glass fell out of mine, but I figured out how to put it back- but then it happened to my wife's pair too). But they did the job- we could have called for others, but as I resolved the issue, it was no big deal.
Couple of other items. Be careful paddle boarding over the coral if you are not 100% sure of being able to stand up. The coral formations (see pictures) are a lot of towers/ columns that come very close to the surface and are very numerous- you do NOT have much water between you and them if you fall in the wrong spot. Paddle out to the clear bottom and stand up there is my advise- my wife went out the 1st day and was very nervous on her way back in.
The coral, which I was VERY excited to see in the promotional video on their website, was unfortunately mostly dead (as it is in much of the Caribbean nowadays it seems). I'd guess it was maybe 5-10% living coral right in front of the hotel. Still plenty of fish and sponges to see though. If you swim to the north side of the bay, it gets up to make 25-35% living coral, so in better shape if you can swim aways off. I did not find the quality of the coral to be significantly worse than any of the other diving I did on this trip though (except at the Baths, which I was surprised to find really healthy coral at Devils Bay- (bring fins to the Baths if you want to explore in the water!)). I had just hoped somehow it would be in better health at Mahoe Bay due to less people having access, but that does not seem to be the case.
Speaking of which, there is a public walk to the beach off to the south side of the property. We saw literally no one else on the beach doing out stay at low season, but YMMV during high season, but with all the beaches on Virgin Gorda and as far out of the way this one is, I have to imagine that it doesn't get much, if any, foot traffic.
The decor was a bit bland honestly, but had a decent beach vibe to it, just lacking in color and design to our tastes. Everything was very comfortable though in terms of the beds, the bathroom, and kitchen equipment. I did think the sliding doors are a bit worn and don't slide quite as well- seems a bit hard to lock one one next to the kitchen on ours. I felt like all of that were minor quips to the comfort of the room and the location of the rental though for the price points listed on their website. It is an exceptionally good value IMHO for a prime location that offers beachfront and relative privacy.
We did enjoy the stay and we would definitely consider staying here in the future. Hope our review helps you out!

The sunsets were incredible. Caia was very friendly. We arrived to Virgin Gorda in the morning and without me asking she had the villa ready for an early check-in.
This is the type of place that you know on first sight that you want to return.
Thanks Caia and Mango Bay Resort! Hopefully you will see us again in the near future.
