We travel a lot, but were left speechless by our week at MaiTai Polynesia in Bora Bora! The staff members are all so kind, helpful and friendly; the views are INCREDIBLE; the property here has plentiful water access, including the use of FREE kayaks, beach loungers and towels, snorkeling equipment (which you can literally do from the corals at their beach); rentals of bikes and pontoons/boats are steps away; the overwater and beach bungalows were so clean, relaxing and comfortable; the most stellar and lingering sunsets from Matira Beach were only a ten minute walk away; multiple delicious dining options and a convenient market within walking distance …. I could go on for days. Maururu, MaiTai Polynesia! Keep up the great work!! Until next time!

This 3 star hotel proves it's not necessary to go 5 star to get a beautiful overwater bungalow in Bora Bora. We stayed 5 nights and didn't want leave. The bungalow was gorgeous with a spacious bathroom and separate toilet. The view to the lagoon is amazing and there is great snorkelling directly in front of the bungalow, accessed by the stairs into the water from the spacious balcony. We had a glass top coffee table to watch the fish below. Breakfast is very good with lots of options. We also had lunch and dinner a couple of times with great food. A 5 minute walk to stunning Matira Beach where there are a few beachside restaurants, Lucky House being the best for us. We would not hesitate to recommend Maitai and hope to go back.

Had a great 4nt break here - we had an ocean view room which had a great view from the balcony where we enjoyed coffee and drinks. The hotel may be of older style rooms but kept very well by housekeeping staff. We needed help with an issue regarding our luggage on arrival and the reception staff did an excellent job rectifying the issue😁👍. Staff all around the hotel were very pleasant throughout our stay. We did the Saturday night Polynesian Night which was enjoyable and the buffet on offer had local dishes. Breakfast each day had plenty choice to suit all tastes.

We stayed for 5 nights in an overwater bungalow. We enjoyed the experience. Room was clean and made daily. The snorkeling was good right off our bungalow deck. Dinners were tasty! Breakfast was not their strong suit, it left a lot to be desired. Same offering each morning which is fine, but the potato cakes/hashbrowns were cold every morning, like they had been taken out of the box and left to thaw - not cooked. Especially in contrast to the food at either off their restaurants for dinner. I cannot comment on lunch but believe it was the same menu as the beach restaurant's dinner. They offer happy hour drinks at the main restaurant, they were okay for the price paid, but service was extremely slow if you wanted another drink. The good news is that yes, there is a grocery store within walking distance. As a matter of fact there are 2, one in each direction. You could get beverages, snacks, alcohol, food, hygiene items, etc. as needed. Worth the short walk to grab something for your small room fridge or an afternoon snack. Staff was friendly and treated us well. We would likely stay here again.

Stayed in the off season during a storm limited period. The hotel was great and has the best hotel beach we saw on the main Island of Bora Bora. Snorkelling on the small reef 10 meters from the shore was a great introduction for my wife. Water was very clear and we saw at least 40 species of fish. Rooms are of a good size and serviced daily. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this hotel for those without megabucks to blow. It is also within easy walk of Matira beach and a number of restaurants.

We stayed here for about a week in January 2024 in the lagoon view building with rooms in the 70s. It is a good hotel that has been in business for about 25 years and has many long time employees. Rooms have been built and updated in various phases so comments on any type of room may not apply to other rooms. Owner so this hotel is reported to own other ones at higher price levels. This is a 3 start hotel by local standards and is good at that level. January is in "rainy season" and is an off season so occupancy was low during our stay. Hard to predict how busy spring season may differ. Rooms was immaculate and was cleaned well every day. Staff very friendly, particularly is you try a little French. Seem to have adequate command of English for their jobs. Snorkeling tour they recommended was very well done. Dinner and Lunch at restaurant next to lagoon was good and scenic, but menu is limited. Fortunately there are a few other restaurants in walking distance if you want a change. Also 2 local groceries a short walk away. Lagoon is great for easy snorkeling but there was some visibility issues probably resulting from land runoff in rainy season. Reef restoration next to beach resulted in great coral and fish variety there. Note that if you need some sun protection at beach there are no beach umbrellas and limited shady space provided by palms. Area near dock has most protected area but few beach lounges. Web site does not mention Wi-Fi but hotel has odd Wi-Fi coverage that is poor to nonexistant in most rooms and marginal in 2 restaurants. If such connectivity is important to you demand an update and guarantee for get cellular hot spot before you come as cellular coverage is good. Power outlets in the room we had were adequate for a decade or 2 ago, not for the devices people often carry now. Room had no USB outlets, only 1 110V outlet in bathroom and only a few 220V outlets in generally odd places for the lamps so difficult to reach and use for using plug convertors for chargers. Our thanks to the kind staff who were very helpful and friendly.

Has kayaks but be very careful of boats and coral. Regarding activities, We booked with matira jet tours for the jet skis. The young guide took 30 minutes to get into the water and was rude. We had less than the full time because of it. Don’t recommend matira jet tours.

This place is a great place for a stop for diving and snorkelling on the island. We saw black tip sharks and plenty of exotic fish. Not sure there is a better spot for that many fish right outside your hotel. Pool is nice with a lovely view. They have a supermarket outside the hotel which has all the things you need for your trip. The breakfast is average but the fruit is great. The dinner is a little overpriced in comparison to better restaurants on the island. The room was nice and plenty of space. Shower was powerful. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Great night sleep every single night. Bikes available onsite to explore the island. Booked the drift snorkelling via the hotel and it was great. Even saw dolphins right next to us. Tip: If you struggle to find anywhere nice to eat go to Chez Rua. Lovely fish and chips along with poke bowls. Family run place with a great service. The view is nice too. Make sure you take plenty of mosquito repellent with you for this hotel. If you forget the hotel are nice and will give you some. This hotel is without doubt the best value for money property you will find on the island. Would highly recommend it for a short stay 3/5 nights.

Not the experience we had dreamt of. We planned a world tour so we would be in Bora Bora specifically for my husband to dive on his birthday. As I use a mobility scooter to get around my needs are quite specific for access. This was our 7th hotel of the holiday. The tour operator had got requirements spot on for my needs until we arrived at the Maitai Polynesia. The room the hotel had allocated to us was up a very steep path, too steep for my scooter, and then up 2 flights of 8 steps, Impossible!! The head receptionist said she would try find an alternative room but that it wasn’t their problem because level access hadn’t been requested and we would need to take it up with our tour operator. It felt as if WE were too much trouble for them. After sitting in reception for over 2hrs the only room they could offer us, number 38, was still up a hill and 8 steps to the room. It was a case of take it or leave it and on a small island it’s not that simple to locate another hotel. In some hotels older furnishings add character but this was way past that. The bathroom was gruesome, in my eyes unhygienic. Refurbishment is drastically needed, at least in the bathroom. The large bed was good and clean linen, shower gel and shampoo provided but NO face cloths, NO body cream, NO USB sockets, 2 small bottles of water on day one but not replenished daily. The staff were very pleasant and the restaurant on the beach had a great menu. Breakfast was also very good. We had traveled half way round the world for a specific date and this hotel was so disappointing.

Some reviewers complained about dated decor, but that is not a big issue for me. If you have to have the latest trendy decor, pick a trendy expensive place. Full breakfast was on offer, with mangoes from the tree in the dining area (unbelievably rich flavors), pastries, eggs, meats, etc. I'd avoid the hard little pancakes and go for the chocolate pastry or croissants. But again, the welcoming attitude of the people was remarkable. Loved it.

Quiet down at the beach. Plenty of lounge chairs. The cons: The breakfast buffet is quite the rip-off. We ordered a la carte which was much better. Their chocolate croissant were to die for. Yes, there is noise from the road but you realize that any room up on the hill anywhere on the island will be the same. The views more than make up for it.

ACCOMMODATIONS: We stayed in a garden view room, felt very private but still easily accessible from the front desk area. The room was clean and upkeep throughout our stay by the staff was consistent and great to have the room tidied with fresh towels every time we returned. The wi-fi was a little slow which was tough when booking activities. AC was strong which was a great relief from the heat most days. SERVICE: We are so grateful to the front desk staff here for making us feel welcome and at home, we felt like they knew us and we could ask them anything whether about where we should eat dinner, change money, or arranging transportation. They really helped streamline our experience since this was our first time in Bora Bora. AMENITIES: The happy hour at the downstairs bar is worth a shot. The beach across the street is so convenient and has amazing snorkeling, and always had beach chairs and shade available. We ate at the restaurant across the street for lunch one day and the burgers did not disappoint. LOCATION: The best part of our stay was the convenient location for our tour pick up and drop offs, as well as dinner pick ups and drop offs. This is not something that would be as quick or easy at other restaurants that are located on their own island, as you need to use a boat to access these restaurants/tours. We often called the restaurants directly to make reservations either the day before or same day, and they would pick us up directly from the front at the scheduled time. Other times we did just walk to ones that were closer. Our favorites included Bloody Mary's, Les Delices, and The Lucky House. We also loved that there were two markets easily accessed by walking where we stocked up on snacks, water, and candy. Overall, you get a very good deal here at Hotel Maitai, and get to experience a variety of tours and restaurants on the main island of Bora Bora with more ease than if you were at a separate resort. Would recommend to stay here for a few days to get a true idea of Bora Bora, the locals, and more food options, and then transfer to another place for the resort-feel.

Our trip to Bora Bora was very romantic. The locals were very friendly, the weather was perfect, and the food was greatly delicious! We first arrived in Tahiti for two days and stayed at The Intercontinental Resort. Definitely recommend if you’re traveling with kids! BUT, for couples if you’re planning to tan in a teeny weeny skimpy bikini, ehhhhh not so much. I mean you’re more than welcomed to but keep in mind there will most likely be a 4 year old just tryna play in the sand lol Theres plenty of space, huge resort but not very private for romantic “vibes” We then flew to Bora Bora and stayed at the Maitai Polynesian Hotel. Under our package, we had thought we were getting an overwater bungalow but quick to our surprise we didn’t and received a “Ocean View” room. Even if we had wanted to upgrade we wouldn’t have been able due to renovations and being fully booked. At first we were a bit bummed because it was our first time and really wanted to experience that but once we saw the actual over water bungalows; we ended up being thankful we didn’t get one. The bungalows were literally right next to and almost even 10 steps next to - the hotel’s main restaurant :/ So yes, there are hotels on THIS side of the island that offer those bungalows but keep in mind they are seriously close to main land and open to the public. We then also quickly found out, unless your paying around 2000k usd a night over on the OTHER SIDE OF ISLAND at The Four Seasons or St. Regis hotel then these bungalows on this side of island will be your best bet for an “over water” experience. (Explained on bottom) Don’t get me wrong! Hugely beautiful on this side! If I had known and personally if I’m making the trip across countries I would prefer to save for great privacy. The hotel overall was a HUGE convenience. You walk right out of your hotel and couple steps forward and you’re right on the beach. Probably a 5 min walk to car rentals or convenience stores nearby. I will definitely recommend you to rent a car!! You’ll get to drive the entire island in under an hour and see everything they have as in food places, shops, excursions etc etc. Be prepared to RELAX! There’s jet skies, snorkeling, scuba, 4x4’s, sunset boat rides, food tours etc etc but once the excursions are over the island is very quiet and CLEAN! I don’t think I ever remember seeing trash on the floor even once my whole trip. With that said; pack your belongings and make the trip! <3 ^.^ P.s if I didn’t make sense with the hotels this is what I meant; picture the whole island as a circle or a hula hoop on the floor. Now in the middle of this hula hoop there’s a tiny dot. That dot in the middle are the fancy pricey hotels. These hotels you will have to catch a ferry to and from when arriving and leaving. The rim of the hula hoop is the coast and where we stayed at. Everything as in stores, food, etc is on this coast. So yes if you plan on the fancy hotels be prepared to always have to ferry (20 mins tops) to the main island. Hope that helps.
