Unfortunately, we were placed directly over The Great Turtle Brewery and it was quite loud. They started blasting music each morning at 8:30am which didn’t make for a very relaxing vacation. My advice would be to ask for a room on the opposite side of the hotel.

A good friend suggested the Lake View Hotel as they have stayed there several times. We booked 3 nights to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We have been to the island many times, but never stayed overnight. Checking in was a breeze and the staff were helpful and so friendly. We felt so welcomed. The Lake View is nicely located at the end of the main shopping area which made it so handy. Our room was nicely appointed and very comfortable. A refrigerator in the room came in hand several times. The bathroom was so nice in size and cleanliness with the shower being spacious. The bed was very comfortable as well. The pool is situated in the middle of the hotel. There is a hot tub and we did use it several times. All in all it was a wonderful experience.

For our 50th wedding anniversary, we decided to take several weeks and retrace our honeymoon. Part of the journey, involved revisiting Mackinac Island.
To be fiscally conservative, we stayed in St Ignace and ferried back and forth.
On our 1st trip over to the Island, we decided to check-out the Lake View; where we had spent a night, 5 decades earlier. The hotel sits right across from the Shepler's Ferry dock; and is conveniently located to all the downtown shops/restaurants/attractions.
Once inside the well-maintained, historic structure, the friendly and accommodating staff honored our request; and showed us some of the rooms, for memories sake (though there has been significant remodeling over the last half-century). One of the rooms we saw was the Presidential Suite (the enclosed area above the Lake View sign, is it's sitting room); and fiscal responsibility succumbed to indulging an amazing opportunity. The views of the main street, harbor, Fort, etc. were incredible.
We returned to the Island the next day, and were able to check-in to the room a bit early (1:30 pm). The suite is large, nicely appointed and includes a small dining area, along with the aforementioned sitting room (with a pull-out sofa, several comfortable chairs and 11 screened windows surrounding it). Except for about 15 minutes, to bring up dinner from the attached Green Turtle Brewery; we spent all our waking time in the sitting room, until our 11 am check-out, the next morning.
We watched the ferries come back and forth to three docks; unloading hundreds of visitors, and then returning hundreds more to the mainland, hour after hour. We saw the crowds enter main street, take some time deciding where to go/what to do; and then disperse across the Island.
Then there was the endless parade of horse-drawn carriages, taxis and wagons taking people to and fro (from stately Grand Hotel livery, to utilitarian freight wagons); interspersed with those walking and biking about. And with some of our windows open, the sound of horses and people immersed one into the activity below.
After the last ferry left at 8 pm, one could now view the downtown and harbor at night; watching the street lights come on and the houses/structures around the area illuminate. It was a quiet respite from the day's hustle & bustle.
Morning brought the first ferries; unloading mostly Island workers, who began preparing for the day's onslaught of visitors.
Morning also bought freighters to the Coal dock, bringing supplies. One freighter unloaded two semi-trucks, which parked on the dock; and then 5 forklifts, removed load after load and placed them along the dock for pickup. (Later, one boat brought a UPS truck to the dock for unloading.)
We then watched empty wagons pass by us, going down the main street; and then returning with their loads for delivery throughout the Island.
We experienced Mackinac Island, from this vantage point; in a way that made this day, one of the highlights of our trip.
When we stayed at the Lake View in 1975, a lake-view turret room cost us $22. Staying in the Presidential Suite cost a tad bit more; but for the memory it has provided, it was well worth the expense.
