My husband and I had a surprise couples massage booked by our kids. Beautiful spa, massage was great. Listened to the hippo in the river below. However the only downside was that we were rushed out of our changing room at the end. There was a shower steam room tha we would have liked to use. We were told we had to vacate the changing room as there was someone waiting for it. We even had someone knock to see if we were ready to leave. We had only been in there 5 mins. We asked if there were other showers to use and were told that we would have wait 15mins or so. We didn’t use the showers or steam shower, we dressed and left.

We were met at Skukuza airport by our driver Dion who was excellent. He took us on a very leisurely drive to the hotel and stopped regularly so that we could admire the wildlife on the way. He even had binoculars in the car - it was almost a private mini game drive!
Having started with such a positive experience we were a little surprised by the lack of welcome at the hotel itself. One other couple were checking in ahead of us which seemed to take all of the 3 staff on duty's attention. Eventually it was our turn after hanging around for about 15 minutes and being ignored by everyone else.
Our room wasn't ready but we were promised a WhatsApp when it was so we went to the pool bar for a drink. The staff there were very friendly & attentive and the bar's position overlooking the river bed is great.
We eventually wandered back to reception - no WhatsApp message - to find that our room had been changed and was now ready. No-one showed us to our room - we followed the map to find it.
The room itself was great and very well equipped.
Our dining experience was similar to that at reception. The only time someone approached us was to present us with our bill for drinks. Every other time we had to try & get someone's attention. The quality & variety of food was excellent but the service left a lot to be desired.
This hotel has a lot of positives but whoever is in charge of staff training needs to up their game.

My wife and I stayed here recently and had an amazing time, I believe the sights we saw were better than a private reserve or certainly as good as, this clearly is down to a little luck, however I spoke to other hotel clients who had also had good viewings at a fraction of the price of SOME of the private lodges.
Location was fantastic and the staff were absolutely outstanding everyone of them could not do enough. Customer relations Sarah and Miguel were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Themba,Silas and Godfrey and last but not least Raol ,who I have to say was a true gentleman and always there for whatever we needed.
So glad we booked this place to stay, it was so much more than we anticipated and l would definitely book again.

What an absolutely incredible stay and experience it was staying at the Kruger Gate Hotel! The greeting was so warm from Sarah, Miguel and the team at the hotel. The service was personalised, staff were attentive and interested in engaging with guests and this service made the hotel not just a hotel but a home. Big compliments to the entire team. We were met with warmth and friendliness from every single staff member and staff went above and beyond to ensure an incredible experience. The facilities were beautiful, from well-maintained, beautiful rooms, incredible restaurants, breathtaking scenery and wonderful activities on-site. The safari (game drive) experience was fantastic and we managed to see all of the Big 5 during our half day tour. If we could move in permanently, we would not hesitate!

Spotting the Big 5, experiencing African culture at its very best and a wedding engagement somewhere in the middle! Please read on - you won’t regret it…
Outstanding service: the hotel has just the most welcoming, friendly and helpful staff you could wish for when holidaying. My partner and I are quite a chatty pair and we’d often find ourselves talking with Wendy and Marvellous in the reception, Themba, Zenda, Normande, Dzunisani, Loveness, Moses, Raul, Basani, Lutrition, Vandaag in the bar area, Kholiwe, Idah, Thabisile and Glenna in the restaurant for a good while – they were superb and really made the experience for us. Oh, and I had a terrific massage from Ignetia in the Spa!
An engagement: I knew that I wanted to propose here so I emailed Corne in advance to book one of the hotel’s private huts for an evening dinner. He kindly tee’d up Nkateko, who was the waiter serving us, of my intentions and so he could help keep it a surprise. Nkateko was such a kind and excellent member of the team. Incredibly, a solo elephant made its way to the hotel and literally right underneath our hut as we were having our starter which supposedly was a sign of very good luck (phew)! At the end of dessert, I asked Nkateko to take a photo of my partner and I (which was actually a video) and that’s when I popped the question and luckily got a YES! He helped us to capture an incredible moment and we’re so very grateful for all of his help and compassion. The food was exceptional and so tasty too – our thanks to chef Yanga and the team!
The hotel itself is just amazing. The LAPA restaurant, the live music from Raymond and Debra, the monkeys roaming around, the turtles in the water, the animals coming right up to the hotel pool – you feel like you’re dreaming. It’s about 30-mins away from Skukuza airport and you basically get an extra safari ride as you need to travel through the game reserve to get to and from the hotel – a win win!
Safari: Just breathtaking. We had Alex and Amos as our drivers and they were super knowledgeable on the animals and the environment, and we felt safe under their guidance. Sarah was also super informative when we spoke with her at the hotel about safaris, generally. We were lucky enough to see the Big 5 across two drives (one in the morning and one in the afternoon). Our preference was the morning drive, but both were mesmerizing. We really enjoyed doing a shared safari (6 of us on drive 1 and 8 in drive 2) – a great way to experience the Kruger and to meet people at the same time!
An unforgettable trip all-round. Even if you’re not that big into animals/wildlife, it’s something you simply have to tick off your bucket list. We cannot thank Kruger Gate Hotel enough and we’d HIGHLY recommend staying here when you plan your visit.
