Great location near the port Negatives: 1. Water was lukewarm in the shower- we told the front desk but it wasn't ever fixed 2. Water pressure in the shower was just okay 3. Unable to adjust the thermostat Hotel is located on a small hill so people with mobility issues may have trouble.

I recently stayed at the InterContinental Marseille for two nights and had an exceptional experience. The service was truly outstanding—every staff member was friendly, attentive, and eager to make my stay as comfortable as possible. From the warm welcome at check-in to the seamless assistance throughout my visit, I felt genuinely cared for. The hotel itself is stunning, blending modern luxury with historic charm. My room was impeccably clean, well-appointed, and offered beautiful views of the city. The on-site amenities, including the spa and dining options, were top-notch. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Marseille. Whether for business or leisure, the InterContinental’s excellent service and inviting atmosphere make it a perfect choice. I look forward to returning!

Imposing entryway, nicely groomed grounds and a friendly, helpful reception staff all set the stage for a satisfying stay at this IGA hotel occupying a lovely old building on the Marseilles waterfront. We had a top floor room with a large terrace looking out over the harbor and with a lovely view of the cathedral across the water. The room itself was adequately furnished, the bed excellent, and the bathroom spacious. Unfortunately, much of the furnishings feel dated—as if they might have been salvaged from another IGA property. Other reviews note some systemic problems—slow or spotty room service, inattentive waitstaff, or nighttime noise, however we didn't experience anything truly problematic. Absorbing our terrific view with a glass of wine blunted any sense of dissatisfaction. That said, there's no question the hotel cannot compete with many luxury, Five-Star properties in Europe. While pleasant enough, many of the staff seemed lacking the deep, longterm professionalism that comes from many, many years of training. Still, in all a good experience. We would return for the view alone.

It's a striking, first-class hotel in a great location for strolling the promenade and cafes of the old port of Marseille. The staff and service, the rooms and public areas are all top-notch. I just wish that reception had volunteered more information about the history of the building (which I learned later had been a hospital/sanitarium) or that they had printed information so we could have better appreciated our stay. Also, be prepared to walk up steps and an uphill driveway to get to the entrance, because we found that the golf-cart pickup that was supposed to be available, seldom was. Still, it's an excellent hotel and value for the price.

For my birthday in August, my husband booked us a King classic harbour view with terrace and a Spa package. Upon arrival, we were informed that our room wasn’t ready. We were told to come back in an hour. We went to their bar. As our drinks were served, we were given the bill straight away. Not one staff member came to check on us or ask if we wanted to order anything else. We paid directly at the bar. We headed back to the front desk at 5pm. Our room still wasn’t ready. We waited in the lobby until 5:30pm before reminding them once more that we were waiting. We could see them scrambling around to find us a room. We were given a room at 5:50pm. A very sad looking room located right next to the elevators, with stained, worn down carpet and a broken mini bar. The bathroom clearly hadn’t been cleaned as a used Q tip was found lying on the floor. No amenities. No soap, no slippers, no towels, no tissue box. The bonus was the cockroach in the loo. Whilst we were out for dinner, housekeeping came and replenished the amenities in the bathroom. As members of their IHG One Rewards program, we were given a drink voucher, free WiFi and late check out. My husband was disappointed that nothing was put together for my birthday. We’ve stayed in less renowned hotels that went all out for our birthdays. The only redeeming aspect of our stay was our experience at the Spa by Clarins. They went above and beyond. We were allowed access to the pool two hours prior to our massages. I was kindly gifted a Clarins set with Hydra-essentiel products. The ladies all wished me a happy birthday which was sweet and thoughtful. Side note, we found it quite amusing how one of the ladies at the front desk was boasting about their VIP clientèle such as footballers and rappers. Maybe they get better service. The hotel does have a beautiful view of the harbour and of Notre Dame de la garde. My husband wrote an email (with photos attached) to management. He has yet to hear back. Save your money and go elsewhere in Marseille with higher standards. The Intercontinental claiming to be a 5 star hotel is laughable. We won’t be back.

Breakfast was a bit busy. We did not try the spa. We had last minute trip organized by the concierge to go to the Calanque which was great a have a dip in the blue sea.

One of the best hotels we have stayed at. If only we could replicate it in every city we are visiting. Above anything else was the staff. They assisted us with everything under the sun with kindness and a smile. Last but not least SORNA was by far the BEST....

We got back to the hotel at 2:30,-and were told the people who were in our room booked a 4pm Check out. So room not ready until after then???? We enjoyed a decent enough stay at this hotel which is well positioned close to the old port of Marseille; it has plenty of staff in all departments to deal with the demand and thoughtful security when necessary. The room was well appointed and comfortable although « room with a harbour view » was a very generous description. The restaurant is very good but has been spoiled by a singular lack of dress code in the evening which encourages mainly younger generations to dress down;we were less than impressed since there are many other quality restaurants in the area where dressing for dinner is appreciated. This is not an hotel in which to stay unless you are prepared to accept children at every dining opportunity, many of whom were uncontrolled and used the area as their own personal playground.

The Hotel Dieu is offers a great experience of Marseille. Literally, a stone's throw from the old port, the location is absolutely superb. A close walk to all sights, but quiet and peaceful in the evenings. The Fort, Mucem, Cosquer exhibition, and cathedral are a short walk up the road....

The Hotel Dieu is offers a great experience of Marseille. Literally, a stone's throw from the old port, the location is absolutely superb. A close walk to all sights, but quiet and peaceful in the evenings. The Fort, Mucem, Cosquer exhibition, and cathedral are a short walk up the road. The neighbourhood abounds with fantastic restaurants including the delightful Patisserie des Marseillais run by Pascal Gugliemi 2 minutes outside. The staff at Hotel Dieu are a pleasure to meet. They are friendly, capable, and professional. We can't wait to go back, and can't recommend this hotel highly enough. Marseille is a fantastic, bustling place, and Hotel Dieu will only add to your enjoyment.

The staff were extremely helpful throughout our stay with recommendations for activities, transport and restaurants. Breakfast on the terrace was a real treat each morning.

Great place to stay. Perfect location, beautifully appointed hotel, outstanding room with lovely outdoor space overlooking the old port and the Basilica. Stunning views at night. Staff immensley friendly and helpful, very welcoming. Reception staff, concierge and housekeeping especially, all great. I would rate the hotel as an excellent stay. But to dine, very poor. On our first night we ate in their bistro, Les Finetres, a terrible mistake from start to finish. Everyone appeared to be dining outside (beautiful terrace, amazing views) and the doors to their inside restaurant were firmly shut. It was cold and windy. The diners on one side of us included a lady who disappeared back into the hotel and returned wearing her coat with her hood up. On our other side were five women who were clearly freezing as a couple of waiters turned up carrying about a dozen blankets for them. The chef, who seems to think his dining concept is 'audacious', believes people want to order food to share, rather than to eat invidiual dishes. This isn't explained on the menu but was by the evening manager and one of the two staff who looked after us. We ordered two cold dishes, a marinaded bream with orange and fennel and an aubergine dish, both of which were very good. We also ordered a third dish which was warm, a lamb dish. The third member of staff who took our order was very confused as to why we were ordering just one hot dish and even more so why we wanted to share it, though this is what we had gleaned from the previous two staff. Anyway, the lamb came with two plates and was a 2 rib crown. Seemed to be cooked well but was the worst, toughest lamb we have ever encountered. I had to stand up to exert enough force with a knife to cut it in two and even then, it was a real struggle. And not cheap though served with 2 small potatoes, a carrot, some fennel and half and onion. Two of the most amazing desserts we have ever had. We had coffe in our room just to warm up. We had breakfast on four days. Day one. Greeted by a lady at the entrance of the restaurant which was open for business, whose contribition was to take our rooom number and tell us we could sit anywhere. Ther were three or four occupied tables with everyone else outside with one member of staff clearing tables. There were no clean tables so we cleared a table for two and walked around to find spare clean cutlery and serviettes. We understood from our hotel booking there was a buffet. No one offered to explain this or how we got coffee which we found on a nearby window sill with some cups and we helped oursleves. I went in search of the buffet. Through some doors to the outside terrace (that had a sign on saying do not leave open) was a buffet at the bottom of a stairwell. Good continental breakst and lovely croissants. Hot food was very disappointing and got worse the next day and by day four we avoided. Often cold (especailly the scrambled eggs and mushrooms) with often cremated bacon. Day two was different. On this occasion, I was stopped from getting my own coffee by a waiter who did it for me and ensured it was topped up regularly. Day three. lovely receptionist who explained that in addition to the buffet there was a menu for egg dishes and gave us a menu which we had never seen before day 3. On day 4 we had got the hang of it but avoided their cooked food which was really poor. But we did have to get our own coffee. Service really chaotic and clearly badly led and badly managed, but always friendly and helpful. And we had lunch at their bar, Capian. Superb waitress, attentive, fun, helpful (luckily) and spoke better English than me. We wanted a light lunch so ordered a couple of drinks and two salads, a fresh salad with vegetables, lemon zest, olive oil and fleur de sel which the waitress explained was not a salad but actually a vegetable tartare, even though it was described on the menu (no doubt more influence from the audacious chef) as a salad and I ordered a prawn salad, which the waitress explained was not actually a salad (the audacious chef again I fear). It was very clear from her demeanour that this had happened before and people had clearly complained when they ordered salads and didn't get salad (photos attached). The food was lovely and we enjoyed it but why not simply describe the food correctly? This was a brilliant place to stay with welcoming, friendly, attentive staff but anything to do with eating was chaotic, haphazard and mediocre. IHG and their subsidiary, Intercontinental, should be congratulated on putting a lovely hotel inside a magnificnet, historical building but they need to send in a secret shopper or two to sample the dining which we would strongly recommend avoiding, especially their bistro.

When I went down to the lobby, our 2 bags were in a heap of bags in the corner of the lobby.. •Our bar bill was over 2x what it should have been. (Oh, sorry monsieur; I’ll fix it right away). •The breakfast server studiously refused to make eye contact after we had been sitting there for 10+ minutes; we only wanted coffee and water; it was a buffet. A coffee refill? I practically had to tackle her to grudgingly get it. This is a seriously dysfunctional hotel. Most of the staff seem unhappy, and they take it out on the customers. I’d think twice about staying here.
