I came upon this hotel during a previous visit to Lyon and knew immediately that I would like to stay here. We booked two nights here through AMEX FHR and got everything the program promised, including early check-in, late check out and upgrades. We spent the first night in a bilevel junior suite. The suite has a huge window framing the river view and is stunning. However we found navigating the staircase multiple times a day hard on our jet lagged bodies. So we asked to move to a different room the next day. Louise st the front desk was very understanding and helped make the move happen very smoothly. This second room is also spacious and well appointed. We were very happy with it. We found the staff here to be some of the best. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant and helpful. In addition to Louise, I would like to give a special shoutout to Mohammed at the concierge desk. He immediately understood what we were seeking and gave very good recommendations for things to do and restaurants to dine at. Another highlight of the stay was the bar Le Dôme. I was told it has been voted the best hotel bar and I can see why. In addition to drinks, we were able to eat dinner here one day and afternoon tea the other. Both were very good. Last but not least, the hotel is ideally situated for sightseeing in Lyon. We walked everywhere and only took a taxi going to and from the TGV station.

The only thing wrong with our recent four night stay was that it wasn't long enough! Beautiful hotel, excellent location. Wonderful staff. Great breakfast buffet. Everything from arrival, with the staff whisking our bags from the Uber to our room to departure was just top notch. The only ever so slightly negative was that the combined tub/shower was a little difficult for me to get in and out of, since it's very high and I am quite petite. But that's minor considering how excellent everything else was. Highly recommend this lovely hotel and hope to return someday!

Beautifully refurbished building. The dome bar is spectacular. Rooms are nice and comes with good amenities. Avoid the Epona restaurant. It’s overpriced, nothing special and offers poor service. The appetizer took 45 minutes to arrive and since my wife only ordered the main, she waited 90 minutes to get her tasteless plate. Our waiter did not speak English. For an international hotel, we were surprised. There are plenty of better restaurants just a few steps away.

More Holiday Inn than IC. Not worth the money
Cons: rooms facing the back can hear the bar/music/loud voices until the early hours, room felt a little budget, service in the bar was really slow, no pool, tiny gym and 15 year old machines?, no shower, rooms felt designed on a budget. Pros: kind staff, location, beautiful building

We had a very nice stay at the Intercontinental Hotel Lyon. We stayed in a duplex junior suite. Regarding the good points, you get a very nice view of the river and there is definitely a glam factor to this junior suite with the high ceilings and separate loft living area. You really did feel on top of the world looking out over the city from these massive windows. I do have mixed thoughts on the room. It does offer a little more privacy with two semi- distinct spaces. However, in a way it was not very practical if you are staying multiple days because we were constantly running up and down the stairs because the closet, unpacking space is a little small. We would probably rethink staying in this type of room again. Also, our room clearly showed some signs of wear especially on the floors but not in any way to affect our enjoyment of the space. The service is impeccable from all perspectives with a willingness to help and a patience to speak to me in my horrible French even though they are trained to deal with international clients. We visited the Dome Bar two times. It is a pretty space. We were largely using hotel credit, but it seems to be a place in high demand because we often saw a line during the apertivo time. Breakfast was good and included a wide range of choices including some Asian options. The location was perfect for access to so many things ranging from sightseeing activities to shopping. There is no doubt. We would stay in this hotel again from a service and location perspective.

Solid choice but no wow factor

Beautiful historic building for our stay and great location. We ended up in two different rooms and both were small-ish and a bit tired. They looked over the courtyards and tiled roofs (perhaps the older section with not as nice rooms as others have commented on?). The cleaning lady left our room unlocked and door ajar one day - thankfully, nothing seems to have been stolen. We reported it to the reception and concierge and their response was to shrug and say that sometimes the doors don't close. So if you do stay here, make sure you do not leave any valuables lying around. Breakfast was nice except for the coffee which was dreadful (not to NZ standard and no flat whites either! Overall, a solid choice but not a wow experience.

Beautiful luxury hotel located in a stunning historic building on the Rhone River (with a busy street in between). Staff are incredibly well trained, polite, comfortable and helpful (thank you front desk staff Igret & Thomas and crepe-chef Estevan). My wife used IHG points for us to stay here before and after our hike on the Geneva Camino (GR-65) to Le Puy, a treat that we will remember for a long time. Appreciated the Gluten-free corner and fabulous breakfast spread. Public bicycle stations are available outside the hotel

From check in to check out everything we needed from a hotel on our arrival to France! Very professional check in, they handle everything, whisk your luggage away while you’re seated with a drink and check in. Make dinner reservations, offer Lyon suggestions, make change to smaller € without hesitation & then off to room where valet is ready with luggage (no waiting for it after 24hrs of flights) and he went over room tips. Security is the best of any hotel we’ve stayed in to get to your room. Key on elevator to get to floor, key to open room wing, again to open room section & then your door. Might bother some but I liked it. Location is perfect for exploring. It’s almost a mini-city in itself with surrounding restaurants & shops. Room was very chic & comfortable. Very high ceilings made room seem huge. Great bed, pillows, and quiet. Plenty of towels, good housekeeping when needed. Last morning room service delivered at scheduled time & HOT! 👏🏻 Only con was restaurant, not a great dinner or breakfast experience. We walked before check out to pick up rental car & returned with it, went up to room got luggage, they put it in car gave us waters & driving suggestions & viola we were off in a few minutes checked out. Would return in a heartbeat!

Good location overlooking the river, very friendly and courteous staff, room with high ceiling, remote operated drapes and average space was quite inviting. Breakfast and dinner were of high quality; lamb shoulder for dinner was very delicious and big in portion. Many other restaurants in the old town within a short walk are alternates for dinner. Confluence of the two rivers flowing through the town and the confluence museum are accessible via a city bus or taxi. The majestic church on top of the hill is accessible via a funicular within walking distance of the hotel. Charming hotel in a great city.

We had previously stayed at the Intercontinental Lyon shortly after it first opened and had a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, our recent stay was quite the opposite. Despite being a relatively new hotel, it already feels significantly run down, especially in common areas like the main restaurant, where the furniture is dented, and the overall appearance is grubby. This is far below the standard one would expect from a hotel of this caliber. A major issue we encountered was poor ventilation in the rooms, particularly the bathrooms. In the rooms in general, but in particular after using the shower, there was a strong, unpleasant odor, likely due to poor ventilation and humidity not being properly managed. This problem wasn’t isolated to our room; we had to switch rooms late at night because the smell became unbearable, even reaching the upper floor of our duplex suite. The staff was courteous and showed us several other rooms, but we noticed that most had the same issue. We eventually settled for the room with the least odor. To add to the frustration, after our stay, I discovered that they had charged my credit card twice. Although I contacted the hotel and they assured me it was just a temporary hold, both charges eventually went through, and I am still waiting for the refund of the overcharge. Overall, while the hotel’s architecture is stunning, poor maintenance and management have diminished what could be a great experience. Regrettably, I cannot recommend staying here in its current state.

The Intercontinental is a gorgeous hotel in a great location in Lyon . We stayed on the 7th floor overlooking the Rhone River. The view was magnificent and the room was spectacular. The room was spacious, bright and beautifully decorated. The bathroom. conveniently, was divided in two sections. The hotel, itself, was extremely clean, modern and beautiful, but the history that it holds was evident. The breakfast brunch was plentiful and delicious and the restaurant was upscale. The Dome Bar was stunning, and offered a variety of interesting drinks. The bar is a can't miss for anyone visiting Lyon. My husband and I have travelled often throughout Europe, and the Intercontinental is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Highly recommend.

Absolutely loved the IC Lyon. Many thanks to the GM Ms. Madelijn for taking the time to welcome us and to the wonderful Mr. Missen for making both of our stays unforgettable. The hotel itself is remarkable for its historic setting, central location, a great restaurant, we loved the elegant, modern and functional Duplex suites. We were equally impressed by the staff, Ms Pauline who delivered dinner to our room and turned out to be an attentive wine connoisseur, Mr. Nathan who took great care of us at the restaurant and Mr Pierre at the reception, all made our stay remarkable. Cannot wait to return to the true palace that is the Intercontinental Lyon.
