Having been to Thailand many times and staying mainly at IHG branded hotels we a have never been to Chiang Mai so we chose the IHG Intercontintal Mae Ping. So I believe this is a newly acquired hotel by IHG not sure how long but guess training is still being provided. Upon arrival hotel is stunning, entrance is nice, concierge very attentive. Check in was clunky - was not recognised as ambassador until mentioned possibly a trainee? Was taken to our room by a more senior staff member - room was beautiful and such a lovely surprise with a cake and decorations for my wife’s birthday. Very special touch. The room it self very spacious, not sure what is special about the mountain view as you cannot see sunset, clean room, AC was very very noisy. Bathrooms are small. Turndown was missed first night had to ask reception and was rectified. As I mentioned this before IHG must have just acquired as they are still building a club lounge therefore you are located in the hotel restaurant, coming from Bangkok Intercontinental IHG the offering here was very sub par for a club lounge- possibly the worst I have had. You could put on a small buffet of cold items, cheese, bread, butter, salad, Bain Marie with a few hot dishes etc in that room, not just a small plate of canapés and some peanuts. Service was very limited - staff did not seem attentive or could not understand your request. Another touch could have been to offer a la carte option for club guest not just the main buffet. I expected F&B manager to come around and have a chat to guests maybe too much negative feedback? Pool - this is a nice area, great to relax after a day exploring, food cocktails and service Gym - quite a small selection of gear - ac must get turned off if you go before 6am it is very hot in there. Don’t understand the need for a PT in the gym 7-7 maybe policy. Check out was dull - no one asked how the stay was or see you again. We will be returning to Chiang Mai maybe in a years time to explore the area more hopefully these issues are ironed out.

Our recent 6-day stay at Hotel Intercontinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping was an enjoyable and memorable one. We were impressed by the warm hospitality, impeccable service by the hotel Team. Yohan from the concierge and Grace from the front reception provided us with many insights and tips and arranged a day-tour to country side with short notice. The hotel’s Hong’s Sky Bar offers an panoramic view of Chiang Mai’s city and the mountains. A perfect spot to have some drink and watch the sunset. A must visit if you are in CM.

As a IHG Diamond Ambassador, I have just completed a three nights stay in our first stay in this iconic luxury hotel. It was also our first trip to this beautiful city of Chiang Mai. We had some memorable stays in various luxury IHG properties worldwide and this property did not disappoint. Just some highlights without writing a thesis: - Interior design - What a gorgeous property: the clever juxtaposition of the traditional Lanna style with modern luxury touches can be seen throughout the hotel. I loved the interior design of the lobby and the Gad Lanna restaurant especially. - Room - The hotel was sold out, and I was grateful to have been upgraded to a premium room with a city view but it was no deal-breaker. The beautiful design seen in the hotel common areas extends to the room. The room is spacious and luxurious. The kind gesture of a welcome card, fresh flowers (very nice red flowers), fruits and snacks is appreciated. I like the Erb amenities (which smell better than the common Byredo found in the other Intercontinental properties). Housekeeping is top-notch. Sleep quality is also very nice. - Executive Lounge - A new wing is being constructed so for now, the executive lounge is located within the Gad Lanna restaurant. This is a nice arrangement: We enjoyed having a dedicated quiet place, away from the crowds during breakfast and also acts as a peaceful oasis for us to enjoy the dinner from the Gad Lanna. - Food - Quality and quantity from the breakfast buffet is excellent. From the dinner menu: The beef Khao soi was so good that I had it for dinner twice. - Staff - Very kind yet professional. We remembered the warmth and sincerity they exuded while welcoming us back after each day trip. Many thanks to the staff, such as Game from Gad Lanna, who always chatted with us with a nice smile while on shift. - Areas to improve - The design of the movable glass door in the bathroom of the room could be improved. The entire bathroom became a wet bathroom while showering - you know what I mean when you stay there. Not a major concern but the hotel management could look into it. Overall, a very nice hotel stay. We look forward to be back once the new wing is constructed. Dion Chan

I am disappointed with my overall experience at InterContinental Chiang Mai the Mae Ping, an IHG Hotel. Upon checking into our room, we were surprised to find a luggage tag which belong to the previous guest on the floor near the minibar area. This immediately gave us an unpleasant impression of the room’s cleanliness and raised concerns about the attention to details. We expect a high standard of hygiene, especially at a luxury hotel, and finding remnants from a prior guest was disheartening. We reported the issue and got apologized but still doesn’t feel as good and it let down the overall experience. Later in the evening, when we returned to our room, we were further disappointed to find that there was no turn down service which later learn that it is only available for certain room types and certain IHG membership level or upon request even clearly advertised on main hotel website and other online travel agents. We see no consistency as this is also different than Intercontinental Bangkok which turn down service offer to all guests. Turn-down service is typically a standard offering at hotels of this caliber, and we were disheartened to learn that it was not provided as a part of the standard guest experience here. As guests who chose InterContinental Brand expecting world-class hospitality, this experience did not align with our expectations. We kindly request your clarification on the hotel’s housekeeping policies and whether any adjustments can be made to ensure all guests receive the level of service that reflects the hotel’s reputation. We sincerely hope that you will take this feedback into consideration and address these concerns to improve the experience for future guests.

My stay at the InterContinental Chiang Mai was amazing. The hotel offers a luxurious and comfortable experience with impeccable service. Highlights: 1.Professional & attentive staffs: The staff were incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay, particularly in the InterContinental Club, the entrance, valet parking area. 2. The breakfast buffet was a highlight, featuring a wide variety of options from American to Asian and Thai cuisines. 3. Dining outdoors while enjoying the stunning views of the pagoda was a memorable experiences. 4. The hotel also boasts impressive amenities, including a sky bar and a renowned Chinese restaurant. What to consider: 1.Size of the rooms: There should be more larger room or villa (I heard that it will come soon). 2.For your good experiences at the bar or dining: Booking should be done for restaurants or special tables during breakfast.

The hotel looks to have been recently renovated and work is in progress at the side to develop residences. We didn't experience any noise or disruption from the building work. The hotel doesn't have a lot of street appeal but is centrally located. The lobby area is quite small relative to the size of the hotel and feels a bit cramped. There is a pool and small children's water slide at the front of the property. The pool area is nice but quite small. The pool was a bit cool to use in December so we only managed a quick swim. We booked a club floor room which included breakfast, afternoon tea and evening drinks and canapés. As other reviews have mentioned, the club area is not yet available so the hotel has set aside part of the main restaurant by the rear garden for club room use. The club offer was worth the extra money and would recommend paying the extra cost. We were able to enjoy the full breakfast offering and the afternoon tea with savouries, scones cakes and tea or coffee were plentiful and good quality. The canapés and drinks included a selection of cocktails, wine and beers. We particularly liked the 'bees knees' speciality cocktail. Canapés were crudités, salty snacks and a plate of savoury bites which were varied each day. Service in the club area was very excellent. The club room was nicely decorated but small. We found the placement of the bed odd as it was almost in the center of the room and you had to walk sideways around the side by the window to get past to the bathroom. This could be a problem for some guests. The bathroom was also compact and the shower and toilet shared the same sliding glass door. The water temperature in the shower was not warm enough even when turned fully to maximum hot. The lighting system was a touch complicated. The buttons operating the lights look nice but are difficult to read and every time we entered the room the bedside lights were on. It took several attempts each time to figure out how to turn them off. We stayed just prior to Christmas and whilst we appreciate the Christmas feel and decorations the hotel had endeavoured to convey, having Christmas music (and nothing but Christmas music) playing on a loop in the lobby, elevators and restaurants all day everyday for three days in a row was just too much for us! I still have jingle bells playing in my head lol. We used the fitness facilities during our stay which offered a good selection of new high end equipment. We went for cocktails one evening on the rooftop bar which has nice views of the city. The cocktails were fine but beware of the happy hour offer. The cocktails included in this offer are not made obvious so we ended up paying full price despite being there during happy hour. The food in the bar was limited in choice and not the normal bar food but a bizarre mix of random items. We had booked to return the following night but cancelled as we felt the value for money was poor. We made the mistake of dining the next night in the Hong Chinese restaurant. No wonder there are few reviews of this place on Tripadvisor. Our advice is don't bother. The design of the place is odd. It is divided up onto small separate sections so you can't see other diners. We were seated right beside the serving area on a large table and they placed the seats side by side, presumably to offer us a view out the window. It was however covered in Xmas decorations so you could barely see out. We ordered two cocktails that took 30 minutes to arrive. We only ordered main courses, one sea bass dish, fried rice and bbq crispy chicken. We were told the chicken would take 20 to 30 minutes and asked if we wanted all the food to be served at once. We said yes. Despite there only being two other tables occupied in the restaurant, it took 40 minutes for the rice to arrive. It was placed on the table with no communication and the server walked off. We waited for another 10 minutes and decided to start eating ot as it was now almost cold. After 10 further minutes the fish arrived. It took another 10 minutes for the chicken to arrive. The meal was a complete shambles. The staff had no idea and offered no apology or explanation of why the food came out separately. We finished our drinks and had to walk over to ask for the cheque. The staff were all standing around looking clueless. Don't waste your time or money dining here. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel despite the dining experience and felt the good far outweighed the bad.

Checked into the InterContinental Chiang Mai expecting 5-star luxury, only to find the bathtub tap dispensing water with a lovely yellow tint. Perhaps they were aiming for a rustic aesthetic? To their credit, the team responded quickly, changed my room, and offered a complimentary afternoon tea as an apology. Swift action, I’ll give them that. However, for a hotel of this standard, such basic issues shouldn’t arise in the first place. Two stars for the prompt resolution, but perhaps more attention to the basics next time? Clear water isn’t too much to ask.

I have written over 200 reviews now, but this is the first one where i would like to give 6 stars. This is an incredible luxery hotel with the most gentl staff possible. It already started at our check in by Mss Need. Also special attention to mss. Yaya and Mr. Nouk who treated us like royals in the club. The rooms are so bright, modern and completely soundless. The view is breathtaking, the breakfast is amazing and the sunbeds at the pool are almost King Size. Also special thx to the poolstaff who were perfect in everything they did. Housekeeping was excelent. Ofcourse i can´t thank everebody, like the people behind the screens, but they all deserve a 6 star rating! Thank you so much, also for the small but so much appreciated details at our arival. Patrick and Sally

My stay at the Intercontinental Chiang Mai was nothing short of exceptional. Here’s what I loved: Accommodation: The One Bedroom Suite was outstanding—well-designed with everything functioning perfectly. I especially appreciated the inclusion of Japanese-style washers, which added a touch of convenience and luxury. Concierge Service: A standout was Noon from the concierge team, whose assistance in organising activities and providing excellent restaurant recommendations was invaluable. Housekeeping: Flawless. Housekeeping managed to service the room during my absences, with both morning and turndown services executed seamlessly. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the high-quality towels were a nice touch. Club Lounge: The lounge staff were friendly and attentive, making the experience enjoyable. I particularly appreciated the thoughtful rotation of offerings for afternoon tea and evening appetisers—ensuring variety throughout our stay. Spa: The spa was excellent, with skilled masseurs and a welcoming reception team. A relaxing and rejuvenating experience all around. Hotel Car: This service was both efficient and reasonably priced—highly recommended. Pool Team: The staff at the pool were fantastic, consistently checking in and ensuring we were well cared for. They were also accommodating when we wanted to use the sauna, making it a delightful experience. Recommendations for Improvement: While the stay was nearly perfect, one small suggestion for suites with this layout would be to place bath amenities next to the bath as standard. While this was done promptly upon request, implementing it universally would add to the experience. Where the Hotel Excelled: The staff truly made the difference. Senior staff members were incredibly professional, often addressing us by name, even if we hadn’t met before. This level of personalised service is what I’d typically associate with the Mandarin Oriental, so it’s a testament to the high standards upheld by the Intercontinental team. Overall: A flawless stay that exceeded expectations. Thank you to the entire team for making it such a memorable experience!

I would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat. The staff are so kind and welcoming and the rooms are really spacious. This is such a small detail but the fact that there is a wide ledge under your hanging clothes, specifically intended for your luggage to have a place to rest and remain open…every hotel should do this. Nice rooftop bar and the gym is perfect for vacation workouts. I hope we can come back some day!

We stayed at InterContinental Chiang Mai, and my experience was REALLY bad for a 5 stars hotel standard. The hotel was at a decent location, making it convenient to explore the city. The hardwares of the hotel including the room, lobby and pool were rather new, my experience was marred by significant software issues. The hotel seemed to struggle with its management software. The duty manager was not very surprised when I informed him that my room alarm set off at 6 am in the morning which we were really shocked. Speaking of dining, the service was good however the steak we ordered were cold inside (which I think is totally unacceptable.) Overall, the hotel felt it lacked the 5 stars hotel factor that I typically associate with inter cont. i would avoid the hotel if you’re looking for a genuine 5 stars luxury hotel to stay, there are definitely areas for improvement and better choices in chiang mai!
