This hotel is really good. The building is so beautiful, it's in an amazing location on the Grand Canal with the water bus stop right outside. You can also get to this stop from the airport and catch one back (get round trip ticket at the airport) The room we had was large and very clean, bathroom also large and well stocked with toiletries. The staff were great, everyone was so helpful. The barman and breakfast staff were so accomodating, nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. There is a complimentary water taxi that the hotel will arrange for you to go to Murano - it's a must see, very beautiful place. Really easy to get back from there either on the public water taxi or private water taxi. We would definately recommend and come back here to stay. There are some really nice places to eat within a 10 minute walk from the hotel, and the area is a little quieter than the main parts of Rialto and St Marks which is really nice.

We have stayed several times over the years at Palazzo Stern. It is in a superb position on the Grand Canal, next to the magnificent Ca' Rezzonico. When the building was refurbished earlier this century it was done with exquisite taste, with no expense spared, and with an inspiring love of Venice's historical heritage. We have always been impressed by the courtesy and support of the front-desk staff, and this visit confirmed our appreciation. When staffing Reception, Jordi and Sabina remain for us an unflagging memory of welcome, kindness and efficiency. Their responses, recommendations and suggestions were invariably excellent. In addition, a distinction of Palazzo Stern must include the personally-served quality of breakfast options (a wider range than often found) in a fine dining room, and standards of housekeeping room service which are always highly impressive. A double room that overlooks the curve of the Grand Canal has always suited us, and there are quite a few of these gems (although they cost significantly more) on different levels of the hotel with variant specifications. The rooms we used this year, on the first and second floors, were both elegantly furnished and impeccably clean. Security and comfort had been carefully considered in virtually all possible aspects. Our only serious recommendation for improvement of guests' experience would be to ensure availability of the flexibility of a less rigid mattress to offer a more comfortable sleeping experience . The convenience of the adjacent embarcadero, with the regular schedule of the Number One vaporetto, has been restored to usage since civil engineering works have been concluded that prevailed during our last year's vacation, also in January. This public transport service provides a considerable advantage for access to uncrowded and divergent sestieres of this fascinating city via the breathtaking context of swanning past the beautifully idiosyncratic palaces that face you along the Grand Canal.

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel at least 12 times....usually in the 'offseason' ....though the staff never recognize that we have been there previously, they are always accommodating and friendly, and we always have a good stay.
While the former palazzo has been divided into hotel rooms, the public areas give you a sense of what the palaces along the grand canal must have been like (note the small lion at the base of the column inside the entry or the mosaics in the upstairs hallways or.......). The bar/breakfast room can be a bit crowded in the morning, but when the weather is nice the outdoor patio (facing the grand canal) is an outstanding place to have a meal and enjoy the view.
The junior suites face the grand canal with excellent views. They are spacious with high ceilings, and they are well set up. The bathrooms are a bit old fashioned, but everything works well. The beds are large and comfortable.
A few real advantages of the hotels location: the local neighborhood has a number of good restaurants and shops that also cater to locals; the #1 vaporetto stop is a few feet from the hotel; the Academia & Rialto bridge are a five minute walk; the Frari and a number of other important sites can be reached on foot in 10-15 minutes; and, the area is not (yet) overrun with hotels or airB&B's.

The hotel laid on a private boat to take us to a Murano glass factory, where they give us a one on one tours, very special.
Only downside was the room we had was at the top of the hotel and only skylights so no view!, but it made a good base to explore Venice from.
