Reviews of Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli e Gran Canal
My husband and I stayed here the end of October for 3 nights and could not have chosen a better hotel. Beautiful accommodations, lovely courtyard where we enjoyed our cappuccinos and attentive staff make this a great choice. Breakfast is included and the waiters are top notch. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed a wonderful 3-night stay at the Palazzo Giovanelli. All the team were, without exception, extremely helpful, polite, friendly and warm. Our room was elegant, comfortable and clean with a peaceful view of the garden and the Ca’ Pasaro gallery which is literally a stone’s throw away. The bathroom had a double sink and a shower which was big and powerful enough for me, but took a little time to get the temperature just right. It was very quiet at night, although our room had an adjoining door to the next room and it was possible to hear the conversation in that room from time to time. The location was ideal for us. The hotel fronts onto the Grand Canal and has its own small dock for private water taxis. There is a public water bus stop (San Stae) right nextdoor. The Ca’ Pesaro is a great gallery to visit, hosting an interesting collection of 19th-21st century artworks with several original Rodin sculptures including ‘The Thinker’. The gallery’s café also fronts directly onto the Grand Canal. The area is quieter than the main tourist hubs of the city, but has many restaurants, peaceful squares and old churches. It felt very safe. I found everything on the main Venice island to be a walkable distance and it is a joy to amble at your own pace through the warren of narrow streets, bridges, canals and alleys. It’s very flat. There are no land vehicles, not even bicycles. Water buses are always an option if tired. Thank you to all the team at the Palazzo for a wonderful stay!

This was first stop on our vacation . For my taste the hotel was a little far out from the main attractions . It was nice place small room but was very disappointed . Paid for upgraded deluxe room with canal view . The windows were inches from floor less then two feet high . I would have needed to lay on my stomach to see the view . This clearly did not meet my expectation and feel like they had no right to chg extra for a useless view . Breakfast was good staff attentive

What a delightful stay! Someone recommended Palazzo Giovanelli to us, and we couldn't have been happier. Our room was gorgeous, blending old-world charm with modern amenities. As Americans, we rarely find beds in Europe as comfortable as this one—it was plush and wonderful! The location was ideal, close to the St. Stae stop, but we chose to walk everywhere, which was fantastic. Being a little further out meant we could enjoy quieter nights, and there was no outside noise. While Venice is extremely safe, we did walk through some darker areas to get back to the hotel at night. If I were traveling alone, I’d probably take the nearby transit stop, which is super convenient. The breakfast was excellent, served in a small, elegant room where they will personally serve you whatever you like from the buffet—such a classy touch. The hotel even has a private dock, which made it easy to take a water taxi, which you should do at least once! The shower was stunning, and the bath products were high-end, though the shower was a bit tricky to operate. That’s a minor complaint for such a luxurious stay. The robes were lovely, and the hotel overall felt like a great value for the luxury it offered. Highly recommend!

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the staff we met last week during our 4 night stay - we were made to feel so welcome and at home. Venice is a beautiful city and we were blessed with great weather (at the beginning of March even!) therefore fortunate to see a lot of it. But what makes for a great holiday are the people you meet - thank you all for making our trip so memorable.

Fantastic Service at this Great Hotel!
From start to finish we had a great stay at this wonderful hotel. The arrival by boat, the unique and classy room, the prosecco in our room, the suggestions from the friendly staff, the service at the little bar, the delicious breakfast. It was all well-beyond satisfactory; it was excellent!

We have just returned from a 2-night stay at this lovely hotel. It is well positioned for all the sights and there is a public water taxi stop next to the front of the hotel. The staff make all the difference. Valentino and another young man, whose name I didn’t get, were on reception for the 2 nights we were there. They didn’t stay behind the desk but came out and circulated and were engaging with all the customers, genuinely interested in what everyone had been doing. As front of house, they were outstanding. We had a side canal view. We paid a premium and being only 5’2” if I leant out, with my husband holding my ankles, I could see the Grand Canal. Not sure I would go for this option again. The room itself was small but very comfortable. We both slept very well. The only niggle was breakfast. I would like this to be self-service. On entering the breakfast room, we were advised that we had to have table service we were automatically given some bread rolls and croissants on the table. I like to have a look and then choose my own size portions, normally small. I observed that several people seemed to want to do self-service, but this wasn’t an option. A lot of rolls and croissants weren’t used as not everyone wanted them and I assume went to the bin. Also I just like to be left to do my own thing at breakfast. Table service for tea and coffee would be good. Unfortunately, this is something that would put me off using the hotel again. The only other small issue for me is the individual shampoo etc in the bathroom. I much prefer refillable dispensers which create far less plastic waste.

Having had chauffeur to a private boat taxi organised via my husband and the hotel, at a cost, we arrived to a lovely warm welcome at our hotel where we’d stay for the next five days. There was confusion with our room, but fortunately they moved us the next day to the room we’d expected. This wasn’t the hotels fault, but they were more than apologetic and a lovely bottle of iced champers was waiting for us on our return that evening, that was after complimentary cocktails and nibbles too!. The hotel was in the perfect place for us, with just a few minutes walk to the hustle and bustle along the beautiful walkways and bridges. Hotel had everything we needed, including robes, slippers, hair dryer, toiletries etc. Breakfast was a choice of hot and cold served by some lovely friendly waiters. It was delish! The guy on the bar was fabulous! Great sense of humour too 😂 He made us some 😋 cocktails and always warmed up some nibbles for us. (We didn’t ask, he wanted us to try them). We approved 😂 The boat bus to take you to all the places you want to see is about 100 yards from the hotel and very handy. It’s worth getting a ticket that lasts for a few days. We really enjoyed ourselves here, we’d come to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and we’d definitely go back. It was a very friendly hotel, immaculate and with incredibly efficient staff. We got to do and see so much! We loved it!

Anniversary in Venice.. Prior to arriving, I contacted the hotel directly, as I wanted to ensure our holiday started without a hitch, and I wanted to get to the hotel without any worries or delays, as this was a special occasion for us. I managed to arrange (for an agreed price, providing my credit card details) for my wife and I to be met at the airport and taken directly to the waterfront by taxi, where a private water taxi was then waiting for us. This then whisked us away (at considerable speed) to the hotel. From the plane landing, going through airport, collecting our luggage…to stepping into the hotel, it took less than an hour & was well worth it. When we originally booked our trip through TUI, we upgraded to a Grand Canal view, so when we were shown to our room (we had to go out and come back as we arrived a little early), TUI had unfortunately been quite remiss in not pointing out that actually what they meant was a side view from the room window of the Grand Canal. I was devastated, as it wasn’t at all what TUI had led us to believe. This wasn’t the hotel’s fault, and what they did next was amazing. As another holidaymaker was leaving the next morning, they agreed to move us to that room at the front corner. They gave us a complimentary cocktail drink and nibbles in the bar before we went out on our first night. The Front of House Manager (Giuliano Zanet), the barman, and all the staff are a genuine asset to the hotel. Breakfast is a mixture of warm (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage & mushrooms), fruit juices, coffees, pastries/danish/croissants, cold meats, cheese & bread, toast & jams, muesli, fruit and even cake (tiramisu, coconut, banana & chocolate & coconut) all served by lovely, friendly staff. Whilst we were out after our first night at the hotel, the staff had moved our belongings to the new room, and left us a bottle of Prosecco & 2 flutes, together with their well wishes for the rest of our stay. [Got to apologise at this point, as we had a minor accident and one of the glasses smashed on the floor. After a quick call to reception, 2 ladies arrived to clear away the broken glass (thank you to them both).] After that, our holiday went smoothly, the staff always helpful, attentive and forever smiling. We had the best time in Venice, and hopefully we will be able to go back, and if we do, we’ll definitely stay at the Palazzo Giovanelli. The hotel is situated directly on the Grand Canal, towards the northern end, right next to the San Stae water bus stop (#1 goes down (from left to right on the canal) to Rialto Bridge & San Marco; the Orange line Alilaguna goes to and from the airport). To get tickets for the water buses, either get them at the airport, or a short walk down to the Rialto Bridge stop.

We arrived very early and the hotel was actually able to check us im within 10 min or so. That was a very pleasant surprise, as we had an overnight flight and we were exhausted. Our room had the most comfortable bed and pillows I have ever slept on. The room had a nice set up, with a little hallway with the bathroom (a little on the small side but not too bad), where my husband could get ready in the early AM without waking me up. The staff was great, breakfast was great. We were able to walk to the train station. There is a ferry stop right outside the hotel. There wasn’t a clear hotel sign so it took us a few minutes to find it. However, if you take a private taxi, they will pull up to the dock of the hotel. Nice hotel, would definitely recommend.
