One of the best hotels I have stayed in over my 55 years of travelling the world. Lots of people checking in at the same time, but we all received individual attention. Taylor who dealt with us was amazing. Said we did not need a personal guide. We managed to do everything we wanted. Shuttle service to the hotel from Odawara. Service and food excellent. Rooms have their own thermal spa baths. Rooms are spacious and ours overlooked the river Fabulous stay. Wish we could have stopped longer.

This was our last stop on a 17 day trip around Japan. It was wonderful. The service was absolutely outstanding and there were so many perks! They have a car that can take you up to Gora town (if you don't want to walk straight up hill). There is a beautiful onsen (this one is co-ed and bathing suits are required, but they have them available) and they have a lovely outside garden that has a footbath over looking the river. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was included with our rate and the spread was amazing. Japanese and western dishes and a wide variety of both. Incredible experience overall.

Excellent hotel! Elegant , great location. Riverside restaurant and bar was amazing. Ask Yosuke to make a yuzushu cosmopolitan! He makes the best! And say hello to Taylor who was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are very large and ours had a private onsen.

I am a seasoned traveler to Japan. On arrival at this hotel, I soon find out that it prefers to receive Westerners and their reception for Asians like myself can only be rated at average if not poor. Their staff lacks humbleness and friendliness when communicating with me and they also never slow in showing their arrogance. This is by far my worst experience of a hotel in Japan. To be fair, if you are a westerner, the hotel is good because a lot of their staff speak English well, which makes your stay pleasant. If you are Asians, my advice is to stay away from it. This hotel is in a different breed from traditional onsen hotel! You need to wear your swimming trunk to go into their onsen! In Japan?

We had 3 nights in this hotel located on the riverside a short distance from Gora train station. Although it is not well signposted there is plenty of parking right in front of the hotel and there are staff to help unpack your car and take your bags. Despite many of the reviews of this hotel we found check in to be reasonably quick and efficient. We also settled the account before breakfast on the final morning as signs indicated it could get quite busy on check out but we found it was quite smooth. The hotel is formed by two connected buildings and we had Room 428 which was high up and had excellent views of the river and mountains. It was a good sized comfortable room with a decent amount of space. Storage area is good. There was a king bed but it had a very firm mattress. There was good independent air con. and plenty of USB and powerpoints. The room had a lovely authentic design which gives it good character. There was excellent sound proofing and block out blinds. It also came with a nespresso machine. The bathroom design was a bit different with a separate toilet at one end of the room. There was a good sized shower and an onsen on the private balcony with privacy blinds. It was awkward in shape and was not very comfortable compared to a bath. The breakfast was average with a completely open buffet although there is some rotation of the offerings. The bacon was usually cold. There was made to order coffee but the machine was not working on the first morning. There was an omelette station where you added your ingredients for the chef. There is a good restaurant onsite and they do happy hour between 4-6pm. Overall apart from the breakfast it was a really good stay.

We liked our stay here last year so much that we booked again. Of course there are reasons you might not want to stay here: you may want a traditional Japanese full ryokan experience or it is a little out of town with pedestrian access via a road without pavement or a flight of about 220 steps. However, you would be missing out on a delightful hotel. Relaxation is at the heart of everything they do: the rooms are decent and the open air, on balcony bath is a delight. The staff are excellent and always on hand to help - we had invaluable advice and help with bookings before we came. Food is excellent: breakfast is a broad mix of Japanese and western food. Other hotels may have a wider choose, but this covers most bases in a simple manner. Whilst dinner is an expensive treat, the grilled food it cooked perfectly over a wood fire grill. Dinner is certainly worth trying one night.

Sure, the view isn't spectacular even though it's on a river. But, the sound of rushing water is lovely and the in room onsen is the best!! We shut the shades halfway and enjoyed the room. It's a bit rustic but immaculate. Not luxurious, and that's fine. The food in the restaurant was the best that we enjoyed in Japan. And, that's really saying something! The staff were flawless and friendly. Cabs are inexpensive and plentiful to get you anywhere. The free shuttle to the Odiwara train station was great. Great tourist info at the front desk with helpful staff. Highlights: the peace and quiet, the onsen in our room, THE FOOD!, the gym and the ourdoorsy vibe.

This hotel was a dream. The check in process was great and the staff was kind and hospitable. The rooms are large by Japan standards and super comfy. The hotel felt fresh and modern with Japanese touches. We enjoyed some drinks at their outdoor area while soaking in the foot bath overlooking the river. We had one of the best meals of our trip at the hotel restaurant. My husband raved about the Wagyu steak and my snapper dish was delicious. The food presentation was a work of art. We had a la carte breakfast two mornings - excellent food and presentation. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

This place is absolutely awesome! From the time we walked in to the time we left in their really nice bus back to the station it was first class all the way! The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are incredible! Especially for Japan you get a big room. The breakfast buffet was about as good as it gets. We also ate dinner at the hotel restaurant and the steak was one of the best of my life! A special shout-out to Karen who was such a sweetheart. She was our server for both breakfast and dinner. She was such a delight to talk to and be around. She even wrote us the nicest thank you note on our final day. Thank you Hotel Indigo and Karen for making our trip special.

the Hotel is clean and the rooms are a good size, mini bar has a good selection. The small in room on-sen is lovely. The hotel will pick you up from the train station and drop you off. When we arrived at the station it was had to locate the the bus as all the large buses were parked together so we had to walk around a bit to locate the correct bus. The breakfast was your usual standard breakfast with all the regular pickings you get from a buffet. Dinner was nice but not cheap. staff are friendly and accommodating. They have a car that will drop you off to the local train station Gora so that you can access transport to all the local sights. The only issue that wee found was they stop the vehicle service at 6pm and there are no taxi's so if you want to eat dinner else where that is not possible as due to the hotel location you cannot walk anywhere.

Wow wow wow, I would give this hotel 6 stars if I could! We stumbled our way in after spending a week walking 25k+ steps around Tokyo and then doing the whole Hakone "loop," tired and bedraggled. We were greeted with the friendliest staff in a gorgeous hotel and heard the most beautiful words: "we have a foot spa." The rooms are very spacious and the private onsen is magical - I could have stayed in there all night. The public onsen has 3 different baths of different temperatures and was super relaxing - and they allow tattoos! The foot spa is outdoors with a lovely view of the river, and you do not have to go out there in your robe and bathing suit like us goobers did. We had dinner at the hotel too and it was fabulous. I was so sad that we only stayed one night and I really wanted to extend our stay! If we are ever back in Gora we will definitely be staying here.

The overall experience was great. I almost enjoyed all the facilities and services here. The room was clean, spacious and modern. Bed was comfy. Looks exactly like it is on the website. The bath and shower area was spacious, just a little pity that the onsen bathtub was a bit too small for two people. I stayed in the river view room and there were some house opposite the river, so we had to draw curtains down during bath. Not a problem at all. It was windy on the first night and the bamboo curtain keep moving during the bath time. But second night was nice and calm. Staff was polite and friendly. I used the free transfer service to and from Gora station. Just walk to the reception or give a call and the car will be ready in 5min. Special thank you to the driver who picked us up at the Gora station at 18:15 (service time was until 18:00, my apologies to be late due to long queue at the Lake and therefore had to wait for the next bus). There were hardly any taxis at Gora station and I did not walk back to hotel as it was dark and very cold. Free shuttle bus from Odawara station takes about 40 min. As other reviews said, there were no much shops or restaurants in walking distance. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant for two nights. The staff can communicate in English and provided great service. The food was amazing. It's surely worth the price. I also had two breakfasts and there were wide selection of western and Japanese dishes. Food was great too. One suggestion, I wish they provide Japanese food in dinner. Like other Japanese hotel, the toilet area is separated from bathroom. I would suggest them to add hand wash soap in the toilet. I went to the public onsen where you need to wear swimming suit and I was the only one using it at 8am. I didn't use the onsen part but there is also a sauna there which is quite nice. I also used the gym at 8am and I was the only one. Equipment was nice and clean. Good enough for a quick exercise.

I found the hotel to be incredibly charming. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. We used the hotel’s onsen, which at the end of a long day walking around Hakone was a wonderful place to end our day. It was beautiful! Our room was lovely and spacious with an in room “onsen” and amazing rain shower. We chose to eat at the hotel restaurant which was quite good. I would HIGHLY recommend Hotel Indigo.
