This hotel is an excellent place to stay. The staff could not have been more attentive. The hotel was decorated beautifully for the holidays. The room was large and lovely. Breakfast was included with our stay. It was a beautiful bounty.
Walkable to the Christmas Market.
This was our best stay during two weeks in Germany. The hotel, the staff, the room exceeded all expectations. The only slight shortcoming was the breakfast buffet. We loved the location which was walkable to most of the interesting sights. It is truly a five star hotel from start to...

This hotel manages to combine the highest levels of service and quality with the personal touch, perfectly. The fact it is family owned is at its heart and the owners can often be seen speaking to the guests, for example doing the rounds at breakfast. Fresh flowers and modern touches within the rooms (adjustable beds anyone?!) combine well with the traditions and the history of the hotel itself. Service is excellent and we loved the fact that the friendly staff clearly take pride in their work, remembering our drinks in the bar and continually asking if there was anything else we needed. Any small issues we raised were dealt with/responded to immediately and with no fuss.
We ate dinner in the restaurant in the courtyard one evening, which was very special and clearly deserving of its mention in the Michelin Guide. The daily breakfast there was delicious and a real treat.
Only negative was that the gym was very small, however we didn’t really have the time or inclination to use it during our break in beautiful Heidelberg to be honest!
Thank you to all of the staff at this special hotel, which is extremely well deserving of its no 1 ranking.

Yes it’s expensive in comparison to other hotels but you are definitely receiving a luxurious five star service in this beautifully maintained haven of tranquility. The owners are very present and hands on, even helping serve a gentleman at breakfast yesterday.
Faultless in every respect; an absolute delight.

Hard to believe that there is still a large luxury family-run hotel. This is probably the nicest hotel in Heidelberg, a city mostly famous for its university and medical research. You can not miss the elegant matriarch of the family whose tastes and aesthetics are reflected in every piece of furniture, flowers, menus, reception and everything else. She arrives super early every morning to ensure excellence in quality and service. Both she and her equally attractive daughter (now the general manager) make an effort to welcome their guests. I love that their treat their extensive staff like family, creating a warm atmosphere. This is old world management and ambiance and personal attention.

As a former head of education and quality of a hotel university of applied science, I know how difficult it is to run a hotel like you and your staff do. Everything has to fit, everybody has to perform. It is comparable to top sport. Gongratulations!

The booklet provided in the bedroom is worth studying to get an idea of the history of the building.
For this visit the junior suites were outside of our price bracket so we settled for a 'Komfort' room. A classic style room with all the normal facilities including air conditioning. We didn't use the electric exterior window blinds but guess they could be very useful in summer.
The bed was extremely comfortable with electrically controlled reclining facility. Also useful, was the floor level subtle lighting around the bed. Basically, if you needed to go to the bathroom during the night, there was no need to turn on the main light!
Check-in at reception was very quick and we were escorted to our room by a member of staff. It has to be said that all staff were exceptional friendly - even the cleaning lady greeted us each time we passed her.
Location-wise, this hotel is very convenient. Last visit to Heidelberg, I stayed in the Marriott...great for the railway station but a long walk in to the old town. The Europaischer is a short taxi ride from the station (walkable if you don't too much luggage) and a pleasant walk into the old town.
Service in the bar was excellent, friendly, efficient and reasonable prices for a hotel of this standard.
Unfortunately, we didn't eat in either of the main restaurants so can't comment on the food. However, the menu did look enticing!

Upon arriving at this hotel we were met by a view of the outside eating area and a number of cars in the forecourt immediately outside the entrance. A fairly nondescript initial impression. However, once inside, everything changed!! Just past reception the lounge area contained sumptuous soft furnishings and crystal chandeliers. Our room (comfort double) was facing the inner courtyard and very quiet. It was frnished with light colours whih gave it a spacious airy atmosphere. The only constructive criticism we would give is that in the bathroom the very wide single handbasin perhaps could be replaced with 2, more practical, smaller basins. Also the central heating wasn't on and so we had to request a portable heater for the room. The Breakfast Room was spacious and tastefully decorated. Service here was very attentive and food quality ranked amongst the best hotel breakfasts we have ever experienced! Worth coming back just for breakfast! In the evenings we had drinks/dinner in the bar - which was beautifully laid out with wood ceiling/walling and soft lighting. Again the food was of very good quality (though perhaps not as exceptional as the breakfast). The hotel also has a fine dining restaurant which we didn't try. With one small exception, which we discussed with management, service was extremely professional. One has the impression that, in this family owned and managed business, service and customer satisfction is at the forefront of nearly everything they do It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for! This is one of only 2 or 3 hotels that would make us return to a location just to stay in the hotel again!
