Hotel Amor Arenal

We have stayed at some top hotels but Amor Arenal probably beats them all on every count. The staff were wonderful, the cabins were amazing, the service exemplary, delicious inclusive breakfasts and an incredible attention to detail. Would recommend even to the most demanding of travellers.

My husband and I stayed here for a few days as part of our honeymoon and it was a dream! The whole property is so gorgeous, we kept commenting that we felt like we were on the set of Jurassic Park or something, it didn't feel real haha. The room was beautiful and having your own private hot tub and porch is a game changer. We loved breakfast every morning - you always get fresh fruit and a basket of pastries that are made on site, in addition to whatever main dish you order. We had a lovely couples massage at the spa, and also took advantage of free yoga classes and the hiking trail. Natalia was our concierge and was so helpful with planning our activities both on site, and our zip lining excursion (which was our favorite part of our trip!), as well as answering some questions we had about traveling from San Jose. Every staff member we met was so kind and friendly. Just a couple things to note: We were in casita #1 at the top of the hill, which made it very easy to get around to the pools, restaurants, and spa areas. We could hear the music from the pool from our porch, but since we were mostly out and about during the day, it didn't bother us. Just something to note if you're looking for absolute quiet - request to stay further down the hill. Alternatively, we walked down to the pool further down the property one day and it is a hike to get back up the hill! There are always staff members willing to give you a ride on golf carts, and if you are older or have mobility issues, that is something to consider. We had dinner a couple nights at the restaurant on site and the food was very good, however, it is expensive. Expect nice restaurant in the US prices, not something cheaper because you are in Central America.

We loved our stay at Amor Arenal. Everything was truly first class. The bed was so comfortable, the amenities in the bathroom even included a hair straightener. I loved the oversized shower which had a door that led out to the deck so it was nice to go straight into after the hot tub. The private hot tub on our deck had really good jets and the temperature was perfect. We had toucans visit our tree in back and that was wonderful to see. I also booked an aromatherapy massage and it was truly amazing! We enjoyed the food as well as the drinks and pools. The view of the volcano from our back patio was perfect. They also have a hiking trail that was beautiful. I would highly recommend staying here. Worth every penny!

If you are a nature lover this is likely the best place in the world. The grounds are spectacular. Each cabin is beautiful with massive windows facing the volcano and forest. The shower itself is 100 square feet with a huge window facing the volcano. The roads to the on grounds restaurants are extremely highly so staff driven golf carts take you wherever you want. The most time we had to wait was maybe 3 minutes. A swim up bar is a great place to eat, drink and socialize. All of the staff love to make you happy whether it be the golf cart drivers, the grounds keepers, the servers or the concierge. Great for romance as each cabin is separate and with its own spa. The food in all the restaurants is excellent. Go for the romantic dinner or the Chef's Corner, both outstanding.

Incredible days! Excellent bedroom. Wonderful view of Arenal Volcano. The hotel amenities were very good and the staff was very helpful and kindly. Very good food. We have made the Costa Rican experience, and it was delicious and kindly served.

My wife and I spent 7 days here while on our honeymoon and it was the best decision we made. The casitas were absolutely amazing, and were kept immaculate during our entire stay. The staff and accommodations were the best we’ve ever experienced anywhere we have visited. It was top class in every aspect. The food, dining experience, pools and facilities were 10/10. The staff continuously went above and beyond to make our stay perfect, especially our concierge Natalia. We cannot wait to go back!!

From the moment you step in to this hotel you fall totally in Love with it . This place had me at First Sight !!! Even the drive to Reception is already a trip on its own. The casita / room we stayed is the type of place you never wanna leave … an island made of precious woods and luxury comfort right in the middle of the Costa Rican Jungle … the sounds , the midnight swims , the volcano views. No pictures would do this place any justice … you need to come in person to really see its unparalleled beauty. The food and drinks are 5 stars and the couples massage I had with my husband is something we will never forget . Thank you Amor Arenal !!!!

I feel like our stay at Amor Arenal was like being a dream. The casita we stayed in was beautiful- large - warm - beautifully decorated and to see the volcano from the shower was wonderful! The private hot tub was so relaxing. The grounds are spectacular and well kept....

I feel like our stay at Amor Arenal was like being a dream. The casita we stayed in was beautiful- large - warm - beautifully decorated and to see the volcano from the shower was wonderful! The private hot tub was so relaxing. The grounds are spectacular and well kept. All of the staff are very welcoming, kind, attentive, and are an example of what good customer service is like. The food at the restaurant was delicious and very beautifully served. The additional golf cart service offered for a ride in the grounds was delightful! I would return here in a heartbeat.

I suggest booking the private sunser cruise on the manmade Arenal lake .Many birds to see ,including the Amazonian Kingfishers .We were warned it would probably rain and it did ,but all part of the fun ,the boat is coveted and we enjoyed an alfresco cheeseboard with a bottle of wine .The guide was very knowledgeable and helped me take pics on my phone through the scope. We were the only boat on the huge lake ,apparently because it might rain ,it is warm and added to the experience . I would not revisit the Arenal volcano slopes .No where near the steeply sided Volcano ,lower slopes with an extremely unstable cinder path ,a few birds ,but if you are from Sth America ,or Europe there are much better experiences there . Breakfast is lovely on the outside terrace with the garden and flowers at rail height . The trails are safe and well marked ,lots of birds and insect life to see. Arenal hanging bridges is a fabulous tour as long as with a guide and start when it opens ,The Coati families are fun but disappear when the load humans appear in droves .We saw an eyeleash viper,Porcupine asleep in a branch ,umpteen birds and frogs .By 9am there were hundreds of visitors and no animals .Quite an easy hike but taking time is essential. The story of how the trail and bridges were constructed by hand and are still maintained in this manner is wonderful .

Amor Arenal is definitely a bucket list lodge/hotel. My husband and I have travelled extensively and staying at amazing hotels is our passion. Amor Arenal is definitely in our top five!! The lodge is beautiful and the service is faultless. Each private casita is large, has stunning wood and amenities and a huge shower that overlooks the rainforest and the volcano. I will focus my review on the wheelchair accessibility of the hotel. This property, built on a fairly steep hill in the middle of the rainforest is not easily accessible. To get from reception to the private casitas and to the restaurants, pools and gyms, one has to walk up fairly steep hills. As a result, the lodge has golf carts that are available to take you anywhere on the property 24 hours a day and there is never more than a one to two minute wait. The golf carts, however, were not easy for my husband, who uses an electric scooter and can't walk to use but, whenever he had to, the drivers went out of their way to help him and fold up his scooter and transport it as well. The drivers also showed my husband a back road that allowed him to get around the property without using the golf carts. It took a little longer but allowed him to have independence and another opportunity to spot wildlife in the rainforest. This small lodge has two casitas that are wheelchair accessible. They have made custom ramps for the entrance and the shower which are perfect. The grab bars near the toilet and shower are perfectly placed and the access to the terrace with a large hot tub is seamless. The only issues with the room were that the amenities in the shower (shampoo, soap, etc) were too far away from the shower chair and the bed had a wood frame around the mattress that made transferring in and out of the bed more difficult. The hot tub also did not have a lift so my husband was not able to go into it. What was amazing though was how the staff and management handled these issues. Every day, Natalia, the guest service manager, would meet us at breakfast to see how our previous day was. As soon as we told her the above issues, they acknowledged the need for improvement and started to work on solutions. They brought in shower amenities beside the the shower chair and have already started to design a bed without a frame. They are also going to consider purchasing a portable pool lift for the hot tub that could be used whenever they had a guest with a physical disability. The hotel also has a ramp in one pool with an amphibious wheelchair and a lift that can be used at either of the two other pools. My husband did use this lift that functioned with water from a hose (sustainable and no batteries) and it was very good. This lodge may not be the easiest wheelchair accessible facility but, the beauty, food and service are so outstanding that my husband did not mind making the extra trek to get around. We were there for five nights and could have stayed forever!! Thank you so much Natalia and the whole team for taking such good care of us!!

The service, rooms, and location are truly outstanding. We stayed in a Casita King Suite for three nights, and everything was exceptional. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a special cake to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday. These thoughtful details really contributed to an incredible experience. The room was amazing, with breathtaking views of the Arenal volcano from the dual rain-head shower. The private hot tub provided a stunning backdrop for unforgettable memories. The cleaning service and toiletries were top-notch. Every evening, we returned to a clean room, turndown service, and fresh towels. The food on property was excellent, with breakfast included and delicious options available. The main restaurant had plenty of variety, and we enjoyed lunch at the pool bar a few times. We didn’t make it to the downstairs bar/lounge, but they do offer free shuttles to La Fortuna and nearby expeditions if you decide to explore beyond the property. For those who like to stay active, there’s a great gym, and the complimentary yoga class was a nice touch. The gym is well-equipped with both cardio and weight machines, which I really appreciated. The on-property trail was the best hike of our seven days in Costa Rica. With dramatic views, challenging inclines, and abundant wildlife, it felt like we were walking through a movie. The pools and wellness facilities were also exceptional. And yes, there are sloths on the property, mainly near the reception area. If you request it, they will even call your room to let you know when one is spotted. The pool scene and overall vibe were quiet, which was exactly what we were looking for. However, I did enjoy meeting some of the other guests and spending time at the pool bar chatting with the wonderful Gustavo. He was incredibly generous with his time and energy. We shared stories of being fathers to young kids (hola, Camilla!) and he was just an authentic, positive, and great person. What’s amazing about this resort is that, despite being fully booked, it felt like we had the place to ourselves—except for the playful monkeys around the pool and the property, of course! I highly recommend this resort to anyone who wants to unwind, be well taken care of, and have an exceptional home base for exploring the Arenal area. One thing I wanted to mention, as it was unique during our time in Costa Rica (and really, in all our travels), is how much pride the employees take in their work. Many commented on how well the ownership group takes care of them, and it truly showed throughout our experience. We loved our time here!

Amor Arenal is the single best hotel I have ever experienced. Each casita provides so much privacy with a beautiful view of the volcano and vegetation. It was wonderful to relax in our own hot tub on the deck after activities or at the end of the night. The pools are beautiful and offer different temperatures. The drinks! The drinks are inventive and delicious! To top it all off, the staff is so kind and helpful. I would move in to that casita if I could!

I don’t even know how to put this experience into words. I consider myself well traveled and Amor Arenal is the best place I have ever stayed. First of all the accommodations are spectacular. They have individual casitas that are completely private… hidden by lush beautiful vegetation. Inside is an open floor plan that opens up to a jungle view with the volcano as a back drop … no window coverings necessary. The shower could fit 6 people with 2 rain shower heads and a floor to ceiling picture window with the view I just described. I could go on and on about the casita. Next, the staff was second to none. Extremely attentive to our every need and sincerely wanting to know if there was anything they could improve upon. Everyone and I mean everyone was warm and made us feel so welcome. Restaurants on property are outstanding. If you are feeling lazy from hanging out at the warm water swim up bar no need to even leave property for dinner. Breakfast every morning included fresh tropical fruit and fresh squeezed tropical fruit juice… I was partial to the watermelon juice. The deck at breakfast overlooks a jungle like view with beautiful color and lots of bird activity. Needless to say we will be returning in the future. This was not just a place to stay in was an integral part of our Costa Rica experience.

Fantastic stay, room was amazing, and staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Any time we needed assistance they were on top of it right away. Food and spa were amazing as well. Great location as well, right between Arenal Volcano National Park and La Fortuna town. Highly recommend!

The only disappointment we had was not being able to stay longer. We have traveled quite a bit and must say this was the most luxurious resort we have visited. Once you enter the property, you see how meticulously the grounds are kept. The architecture of the buildings are an amazing fit with the surrounding rainforest. The accommodations, the cleanliness, the knowledge of the staff, the restaurants and food, the spa, the coffee shop all were amazing. So much thought and creativity has been put in to this resort from the cocktails to the menus and casitas that it will exceed your expectations. From the ground keepers to the managers, they were trained to be there for you. No matter who you saw, they were very courteous and helpful. When we go back, Amor Arenal will be the place we will stay!
